Very bad Macy's compared to other stores that I've been to in New York and Florida. For some reason the store is consistently messy. I believe they send too much merchandise to the floor. I was shopping for underwear yesterday and the drawers were so stuffed you could barely open them. Packs of underwear were strewn on the floor, it was a mess. Cleanliness and customer service pale in comparison to the flagship location near Penn Station. Having mentioned customer service, only once did I come here and experience a quick checkout. It was when I purchased an on-sale pillow in December 2014. Otherwise, my checkout experiences here have been bad. The staff are very slow, I don't know if the computers are complicit in this but no one moves with any urgency. I also once purchased some Under Armour™ shirts on the first floor, the clerk was very slow, had poor knowledge of the products in the department in which he was working and even stretched the necks of the shirts that I bought to remove the hangers. He works in retail--my mother taught me as a young child to never stretch the necks of garments--I was disappointed that he didn't respect my purchase enough or even take the easier step of removing the hangers through the bottom of the shirt. I fully understand that this might sound anal on my part but it's the little things such as this that leave a lasting impression on the customer. Will do my best going forward to avoid this Macy's location, the hassle is not worth the 3.5% tax rate. read more

I have been shopping at this Macy's for a while now. When my bosses at work give me gift cards I always ask for Macy's. Since this bout of shopping was far worse then any I have experienced there I bumped the rating to a 2 from a 1 star. I wanted to buy a new suit(s) and it took over an hour for a customer service member to ask me if I needed any help. Then once I did get the help I needed it wasn't that useful; I ended up finding what I needed myself. I went to go change and the changing rooms smelled like leftovers which had soured. The changing room attendants just stood around talking between themselves and i noticed a blood stain on one of the shirts I wanted to try on. Apparently someone had pricked themselves with one of those shirt needle and the shirt was refolded and put up for sale. This only got worse; after buying my 2 full suits and dress shirts they forget to give me a discount for my macy's card because I used gift cards as well. A new girl was at the register and it took me an hour just to cash out. Then another hour to get the 60 bucks in savings for using my gift card. I know the new girl was trying but haven't they trained their holiday support staff yet. I'm going to start re-considering shopping there. However; I do have to say their selection of Johnson and Murphy shoes is pretty good and typically they are very responsive in the men's shoe department. read more

I am writing this review in reference to the MAC counter in Macy's at New Port mall. Each time I go to a MAC counter, for some reason I get less than stellar customer service. All I wanted to do was repurchase some concealer and be on my way. Instead, I was basically yelled at by a heavy set, effeminate dude with spiked bleached hair and bad breath. It was totally uncalled for and I immediately left Macy's and went to Sephora's where the customer service was great. MAC lost about $100 in sales just because they refuse to train their artists on how to be professional. I will use NARS products from now on, MAC is not worth the hassle. read more

I like this Macy's because it's more organized and slower paced than Herald Square, certainly Flushing and a little nicer than Queens Center. My wife was attended to by two ladies in a hunt for a pair of shoes. They were a little snippy at first, but caught themselves and gave attentive customer service. I came to this Macy's to return 2 brand new shirts with all my tags still on, and my Macy's credit card in hand until I received the most horrific customer service by a very unprofessionally rude cashier named "Heather". She started off by saying "flip your tags so I can scan them, no not that way! The other way". I understand we're in the middle of a pandemic but sheesh wear gloves like the other cashiers who were not treating customers the way heather was treating me... not to mention she wasn't even wearing her mask properly but that's besides the point. She was unable to scan the item so I proceeded to inform her that the items are on my Macy's credit card, she very rudely told me "I can't find it like that!!" Until I found my email to show it to her since she couldn't do some basic customer service and type the item number into the system. I was finally able to return my items. She rudely told me to hang them on the side. I will never understand how someone like Heather can have a stable job without any basic customer service skills. read more

I wanted to review the MAC counter at Macys. The girl at the counter was a bit overwhelmed because she said the other person called out so she was working alone and had a lot of customers. I'm sure doing makeup, trying to help people choose makeup, and ringing up other customers all at the same time can't be easy so I didn't mind being patient. Although they didn't have my color in the Mac Longwear Pro Foundation (which took me forever to decide on this foundation then was bummed when she said they were out), I still found my experience fine at this MAC counter in Macy's unlike the other review mentioned. I think the girl who helped me was named was Veronica (or Victoria, Vicky...something with a V). Anyways, I returned the following morning and purchased the foundation in my color. I will return to this Mac counter whenever I need to restock. read more

I just recently went to Macys and was looking for a backpack for my son and had difficulty finding one. I went up to the third floor in their beddings/children's section with my other 3 yr old in tow on a stroller provided in newport. I saw the one assistant lying on the bed talking to two others sitting on the other two beds. That was nothing to me..I just thought "if a Manager/supervisor would see me I would prob be in trouble". When at last i saw some backpack just right in from of the elevator I'm supposed to come out of...I can not believe there WAS A LOT I MEAN A LOT OF RAT DROPPING ON THE DISPLAY STAND UNDERNEATH THE BAGS...AND I have my kid with me..EEEW!Macys should do their inspection really.This is below standard and to think the children section is on the same floor!!!Unacceptable!!! read more

I go here sometimes on weekday lunch hours and it it usually not crowded. The biggest advantage is the tax compared to Manhattan. But some of the employees need better training in customer service. I recently had a horrid experience with a checkout associate called Gwendolyn- unhelpful, rude and obnoxious. I wonder how someone like her has a job that relates in any way to customer service. The service in this store has always been bad. In the beauty section, they just don't help you with things you are looking for. Wouldn't match the online price in store. The shoe section is by far the worst in service, I liked a show in the shelf, and asked someone to fetch the second pair of it... turns out they couldn't find it, took my details and said they will call me after they rearrange the section since it might be somewhere on the floor. No calls received ever. This has happened twice. The apparel section does not have anyone to help. The fitting rooms are closer half the time, and the staff there is rude who will almost shout at you even before you go in to get it back in the hanger ( which I always do). I once did a buy online to pick up in store and the pickup counter was closed when I reached there. Ended up waiting 45 mins to just pick up my order! Too many issues with service here. The best thing about the Macys in the Newport Mall is the women's shoe department. Not only do they have wide selection of brands and styles but there sales are unbeatable. I have seen the same brand and style shoes at upscale shoe departments at Nordstroms sold for significantly less at Macys. Their accessories and makeup departments are standard. However the buyers for the women's department need to step up their game . The womens and misses clothing seem dated while the clothing in mens department seems more fashion forward. Overall The Macys at newport mall is a servicable department store. Don't expect high end luxury goods here. read more

I don't have much good or bad to say about this Macys. It rides the line of just average or maybe slightly below average. I've come shopping here multiple times and have always been able to find what I am looking for except in the woman's shoe department. That place was a straight disaster when I was there. The messiness was giving me anxiety. And I'm not talking about the sale section either (those are always notorious for looking like a tornado hit), the entire department was in disarray. The line was all the way into another department & there was only one cashier while there are plenty of other workers just walking around cleaning up small things around the store. The manager spots the line & RELIEVES the other cashier. So now it's back the only one cashier .. the line is growing. By now I've been in line for 45 minutes. The next cashier comes in shift & the manager says he's going to take his break. Beware when having furniture delivered. Macys is dishonest. I ordered a kings size sterns and Foster mattress. I set a delivery date and took a whole day of from work to receive them. When they didn't show I called them to find out what happened. They then claimed that I cancelled the order. I told them I never did and that I took the day off to receive the mattress. They were very uncaring and insisted that I cancelled the order. Macys screwed up the delivery and then to cover themselves claimed I cancelled the order. Macy's is very dishonest and unprofessional. Stopped at Macy's Newport Center, Jersey City a week ago to purchase my favorite perfume and what an awful experience that turned out to be...The two sales associates started bickering right in front of me over who was going to get the sale as I stood there and watched. Last year my Mom was robbed at Macy's. It was late at night and someone took her bag when she was in the bathroom. She wasn't physically accousted and Thankfully she wasn't hurt. She went to the security office to let them know. She had to be there for about an 1 1/2 hr before she got to call me at work. Here's what the Macy's employees did and here's what Macy's told me. They said that they didn't call the police because it wasn't Macy's merchandise that was taken. And they were not responsible. When I got there I was friggin pissed. I took my mom to the Police Precinct which was about 20 min's away from the mall. We reported it and when I told the female officer what happened and what was said, she was surprised. I called Macy's corporate offices and I got the same story. They even sent a letter to my sister saying the same nonsense. So if you're ever shopping at MACY'S jersey city; know that if you should have the misfortune of being stolen from MACY'S staff won't help you. Because it's their policy to not do so. Unless it's MACY'S merchandise. Then it's important. I will NEVER give any money to MACY's or any company associated with them. read more

I was looking for a philosophy moisturizer and was disappointed when i didn't see it. I started to open up a drawer to see I could find it. The Indian looking sales lady in Estée Lauder is the worst sales person I have ever see. She is so rude and zero professional! She have no idea what is customer service. I made my first order on macys.com. Just a simple one shirt order and it still hasn't arrived! 10 days late. I tried to call the customer service and couldn't get through. When I finally did get through the person on the other line took my home phone number and cell phone number and then preceded to disconnect my call. And they never called back. I called customer service again and they didn't know where my order was and reordered the shirt. The customer service rep never said she was sorry for my trouble or anything. I wish I could give this store no stars. I am utterly disgusted with the security in this store! While shopping I have to try my clothes on it does not matter if it's my size or not I have to see how I look in each item. While I was trying on some clothes in the fitting room, I was the only person in the fitting room at the time a security guard walked in and very loudly you hear someone screaming into the walkie-talkie saying "check the fitting rooms, check the fittings rooms for suspicious activity!" I was very shocked because I am the only person in the fitting room and probably 1 of 5 people shopping in this store. I was very offended and immediately dropped everything I had and went directly to HR to inquire about why the walkie - talkie is so loud in the first place and secondly why am I being harassed in the fitting rooms. When I got to HR I spoke with the manager of the Macy's Alicia who said she was not the manager of the security team. I immediately asked to speak to the manager of the security team, Alicia called him and was told he was in a meeting. I said I would sit and wait to speak with the manager of the security team but Alicia decided to sit and speak to me. She explained that they do these checks routinely. So I asked if the manager of the security team was in a meeting then who issued this routined check and who was screaming into the walkie talkie? None of my questions were answered, Alicia apologized and explained to me that this particular Macy's loses a lot of merchandise due to theft. I wondered how that concerned me, thanked her for trying and left. I doubt I will ever shop at Macy's again especially in this mall. I understand that the security does routine checks but did it so happen to be time for one while I was in the fitting room? Is this how they handle all of their routine checks? With someone screaming for the fitting rooms to be checked? And if its so routined why are they being told to do it? read more

This branch is okay for basics, as it has limited inventory, compared to Herald Square and larger locations, There seems to be a consistent problem with staffing and I have had several experiences when I've had to search for a cashier and/or wait in a long line for help. Just today, I was shopping in the Homewares section on the top floor. ONE cashier was working the entire floor, while other staff appeared to be putting stock away and chatting in a leisurely manner. The people in line were very frustrated with the delay, given that there were other Macy's staff who saw the long line and yet didn't offer to open another till. Eventually, out of sheer exasperation, I left the merchandise I planned to buy and went to the offices on the second floor to complain. One gentleman listened to me, but didn't offer an apology and proceeded to the third floor to assist. I will be going to Bed Bath and Beyond to get the things I need instead. Macy's - you really should pay attention to what is happening in the Newport Mall, as I am confident you are losing business. You've certainly just lost mine. read more
