I've tried shopping at other locations, but they don't offer the same experience as the Capitola Macy's. Deals, well organized, and beautifully staffed. So I went to Macy's about a month ago to buy some perfume and their associate Ingrid was super insistent that I sign up for a store card. SHE EXPLICITLY LIED TO ME and said that it was not a "real" credit card and that it would not affect my credit score. Anything to make a sale. I'm so pissed right now! The store itself was ok but the service was great for the most part. Particularly I'd like to thank Jennifer from At your service as she was very kind and helpful. I believe she is a very hard worker and deserves more recognition, every time I come to the store it seems she's giving it her all. She's always going above and beyond regardless of what she's doing and I always see her running around the whole store. Now on a less pleasant note I find that the woman upstairs who does the suit fitting is rather rude and doesn't treat her coworkers very kindly, I feel something should be done about her. I was in a hurry today and maybe that is why I'm somewhat upset.... When there are 2 employees working in the same area, I would think one would stay in the register. Instead, they are both talking inside the fitting room for more than 5 minutes. I walked to another register which if I have to I will but please cover your area and be aware of customers that need assistance. They left the register as I walked in the door. I go to this location almost once a week, the people in the fragrance department are very helpful and will let you test or smell any colognes that are on the sales floor. They make you feel real comfortable and don't rush you in your decisions. I ended up buying a 3.4 oz Versace Dylan blue pour homme cologne, Versace makes some good cologne, but some of them are strong af Versace eros and Dylan Blue are strong and loud fragrances. Today I went to Macy's located on 41st Avenue in Santa Cruz & I was helped by Jenny at the Estee Lauder counter. Jenny was so helpful, kind & a pleasure to work with. She told me that I qualified for the reserve cosmetics but I had to wait for 11 more days. She noticed that I wasn't a reward member so she signed me up so quickly. She also helped me choose my cosmetics that I qualified for & she even gave me samples of what I had came to purchase but had to wait. I love Macy's, Estée Lauder cosmetics & perfumes & when you deal with such a pleasurable person, it brings that much more value to the store & brand. read more

Online shopping may seem convenient, but it's always better to shop local. Even with department stores. It is a smaller store with a limited selection, but they can order anything Macy's has available and ship it to your home for free. Great customer service, convenient location and they are open late for people who work all day. Their last act clearance sections are the best and they are updated frequently. read more

Service is hit or miss, selection is blah. My big mistake was the credit card gimmick. The sales associate had no problem assuring me I could get the 20% off, pay on the spot and forget the card. She said it would take 2 minutes and not require any personal info. She reached over me to hit enter on the key pad as I paused to review terms. After giving Macy's social, phone, address, ssn, etc, and spending 15+ minutes on the card process, I finally walked out thinking I'd saved $50 and could just cancel the card. This is like the Macy's that time forgot, lol. I honestly always thought it was an outlet, or maybe not even open - but apparently it is? Went there around 8:30pm on a Saturday night and it was virtually empty, just me and one or two other customers. The few employees I encountered were nice, so they get the extra star. But I specifically went there looking for three things: A pair of jeans, shapewear, and a dress for an upcoming wedding. I wear a size 18, so I asked where their plus-sized department was. The very sweet woman then sheepishly took me to a RACK. Yes, one pathetic RACK of about a dozen clearance items in random sizes. Wth?? I did manage to find shapewear (like Spanx) in my size, and also picked up a new wallet + silver necklace chain while I was there. All for just $100 after discounts! The blanket I ordered was out of its bag and a strap and wrap was in the shipping bag separate from the ONE blanket I got. No way to reach them by phone. No options under order for it being short shipped. They're falling apart and likely will go bankrupt so they're ripping off their customers and not caring. Otherwise, why wouldn't they give a way to reach them? The COVID excuse doesn't work for me cuz I'm a Sales Rep and all of our manufacturers have kept customer service open to reach for a problem. Had the worst experience shopping at Capitola Macys, Debbie with the mullet from Lancôme was the rudest person i've ever encountered. I went up to the counter to browse since i've never shopped with them before. She saw me looking around and NEVER offered help or said Hi. I felt uncomfortable, maybe it was because i was in my gym clothes or didn't look worthy but she did nothing but look me down. I had money in my wallet just anyone else. This day an age being a Hispanic women i felt it was shocking that this old age white women couldn't offer me help or even look me in the eye. I went in to purchase water shoes and found what I wanted. When I asked the women behind a counter about them I was told they weren't allowed to help because the shoes were from another department. Turns out it was a leased area and there was a small sign saying they didn't open for at least another hour. Although in the end the clerks tried to help me, I just left. This was an uncomfortable, embarrassing, and frustrating experience that Macy's could and should avoid. read more

I am in a wedding party, and needed to find a specific colored and styled suit. Kathy helped me find exactly what I was looking for. She was incredibly helpful and her customer service was top notch. Because of her friendly service I will be coming back to Macy's for all my future clothing needs. This is for the cosmetics section only. The rest of the store has excellent customer service, and the sales clerks are always very friendly and helpful, without being too pushy. Not the case in the cosmetics area. I realize you are competing with Sephora and Ulta, but please teach the people in Macys cosmetics about customer service! I walked through the area, looking for a particular blush, but couldn't find it. The people "working" cosmetics did not ask if I needed help finding anything, and some of them who were standing in a group near the Benefit products gave me the once over with a sneer on their faces. I have received nothing but superior service on my last few visits to Macy's Capitola. The sales associates in the women's Impulse Clothing Department really go above and beyond and deliver top tier service. On my last three visits this year the sales associates all took their time to make me feel like a valued customer/cardholder. The sales team meetings seem to be paying off. I heard other customers very pleased with their shopping experience. Yesterday the ladies in the Impulse Department did an exceptional job. I couldn't have been more pleased with everything. One sales associate helped me try to find my desired size by running an item locator search and even pored through several rounders trying to help him find one. The sales associate at the cash wrap produced an additional Macy's coupon for me to use. Even though I had my own Macy's rewards coupon, my coupon was only good on sale and clearance items. I had a few tops that were regular price and she was able to help me reap additional savings, which makes me very happy. On my last three or four visits, I've had similar personalized experiences. The front-line employees always make me feel important and welcome. Fashions and merchandise are always on trend and displays are always neat and orderly.
