I purchased my gown 11 months ago from the Macy's Bridal Salon, in - silly as it sounds - a completely euphoric and seamless experience. It was the first dress I tried on, fit me beautifully and I even shed a few tears with my parents and the wonderful staff at Macy's. During this experience, they told me to expect the gown to arrive some time in April 2012 (my wedding is September 29th). While I thought that did seem early and plenty of time, I was just going with the flow and started looking forward to Spring. It never came in April. No big deal. They told me to expect it in May. It never came in May. OK, we had time... Then I got July...which has come and gone. At the end of July/beginning of August, both my mother and I followed up with them, fearing that maybe their inconsistencies could reflect a bigger issue. They reacted in what could be best describe as condescendingly passive aggressive. I received comments like "it's ALWAYS 7-8 weeks in advance of the wedding" (umm, why didn't you tell us this months ago??) and "don't worry you'll be fine." OK, fine, but when planning a wedding is already among the most annoying things for me, this kind of condescension can really bother. But I stayed calm. It's only a dress. Some time a few weeks ago they told my mother that it will be shipped in 2 weeks. I made the mistake of calling them up today and got a more aggressive level of condescension. My own bridal consultant, who was the sweetest person in the world on that fateful date 11 months ago, was visibly aggravated with me and told me I need to follow up with management only on shipments. Oh sorry, you decide to tell me this now? I'm now 5 weeks before my wedding and while I'm not worried about the dress itself, I have little faith in their service and frankly feel run down. I've never been told so many varying stories and I can confidently say that they are my only vendor I've had issues with during this whole wedding planning nonsense. Truly uncomfortable to work with. I am thisclose to insisting on a refund in order to buy something elsewhere, off the rack. Again, it's only a dress, but service like this can really kill an experience. read more

Everyone go see Barbara! She was so patient and not pushy at all! I kept flip flopping between dresses and not once did I ever feel she was getting frustrated with me or tired of my inability to make a decision right then and there. She was super friendly and was very helpful with bridesmaid dresses too. I felt that other consultants had an air about them. One even busted in on the room my BM was trying her dress on after we told her someone was in there- nope didn't listen-didn't care. We ended up coming back here twice because I was so indecisive and both times she was more than happy to help us. Definitely ask for Barbara- she is fantastic! One added bonus about Macy's is that your BM's get a discount on their dress too and you can use gift cards towards your purchase. read more

My mom and I went to Macy's Bridal Salon on Black Friday so we didn't know what was going to be in store but luckily Tracy was there early already working before the bridal salon even opened. When we walked up Tracy greeted us and asked us what we envisioned for my wedding. After showing her some dresses I was considering she gave her honest opinion and said to come on back and checkout their dress options. My mom picked out the first dress which ended up being the one I went with. Tracy was beyond helpful, gave her honest opinion, and helped me picture what I would look like on my wedding day. Tracy was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with me as I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. She worked with my mom and I and I'm so grateful we were able to work with her! I purchased my bridal gown at another place which I love and adore and unfortunately they do not sell bridesmaids gown. So that's why I came here. The customer service and atmosphere here is very....weird. Its like you have to work around them, not the other way around--which is the exact opposite of what customer service is. I understand that the reps are busy and working on a commission basis, but beyond your allotted time slot, don't expect much. It is very rushed and they place a lot of pressure on you to buy on the spot before your appointment time is up so they have time to process everything--NOT to make sure you have found the right dress (or bridesmaids dress in my situation). If you do come here, you should try to work with rep that works a lot of days because they don't want anyone from your bridal party scheduling measurings or fittings with anyone else, only the rep who is making a commission off of your account. And if your rep isn't working that day, other ladies will help you, but ONLY after they passively let you know that it is an inconvenience for them, and not part of their job. I just feel like the ladies working here are under an enormous amount of pressure to sell-sell-sell; and they have beautiful dresses, so that's what's helping them make their sales numbers. It seems like they would like to take more time with each customer, but they simply don't have the time to provide a higher level of individualized attention. read more

I loved the service here. It was low pressure, and they actually looked for dresses in your price range, with a large selection under 2K. My best friend is getting married! YAY! She went to Macy's for her bridal gown and also decided to order her bridesmaids dresses through the store. BOO! I called to order my dress 3 times before I could get someone who would actually take the order. When the dresses came in, the sashes were not as expected. So, after a million unproductive phone calls (read: no one knew what was going on or how to fix it) my friend was finally able to select another color, which was also awful and she had to end up going to a craft store and special ordering the sashes. My dress was an entire size too big and the return policy would not let me exchange for a smaller size...$80 in alterations later it still was not the best dress I've ever owned. My friend also had an incident with her dress...it was the wrong color. They said it came in ivory. It didn't. So, her ivory dress came in gold...a bride's personal hell, no? I'm not sure about all the other details, but everything we ordered was wrong and then no one had the answers to fix the mistakes. My last complaint happened with the face to face service. I went to see my friend try on her dress for her fitting. We waited around FOREVER in a hot, sweaty room because someone who won their dream wedding in a contest had a camera crew and was being waited on hand and foot by the entire staff. While the seamstresses were nice, they didn't explain to my poor friend what all the bustles meant. They pushed their preferences onto her in order to be done quickly, it seemed. The people were nice and all, but ALL of our bridesmaids dresses were GIGANTIC on us. When, you are actually taking measurements, how can all of our dresses be THAT big on us. And, the lady told my friend that she "better order a size 10, because she isn't going to lose that baby weight". Maybe i'm crazy, but that's so rude. If I could just rate my consultant, I would give her 5 stars. Barbara was WONDERFUL. So friendly, so helpful, so fun. When I told her my vision for my wedding, she knew right away where to suggest (hint: it wasn't Macy's). It was partly my fault - I thought I had researched the salon, but I guess not well enough, because they had nothing that fit my style or wedding vision. Had I not invited my Grandma and future mother-in-law, I would have left without trying on a single dress. However, I felt like I should show them something, so I tried on about 5 dresses. The samples were old and felt dirty - to the point that some had pit stains. They were all poofy and tool-filled, and just felt scratchy and cheap. The salon itself was like looking for dresses in a hallway- there were 5 of us at the appointment, and it was very crowded. I got dressed in one room, and they arranged a second dressing room with chairs for my family to sit in. Like I said, Barbara was amazing, and I would go see her again if I could stand to go to this Bridal Salon, but I can't. Dresses: The dresses you try on will be dirty and gross. They should really update it. The ivory looked like a stained yellow from all the other bride's makeup on the dress. ew. Experience: really terrible. I went to 3 bridal salons before this with AMAZING service. They made me feel so special, giving me extra attention -- making sure I am comfortable with every decision. So when I came here i expected a similar experience. Wow was I wrong. I was pressured and my personal opinions NOT respected (My family were having a private conversation comparing dresses and the sales person interrupted frequently with rude comments). She kept dissing the dress that I had in mind from a previous bridal salon. I'm not looking for just a cheap dress; I'm looking for THE dress. I did not appreciate it at all. Also, there was only one mirror in the whole salon and it was really awkward standing while waiting for the other bride to finish up in front of the mirror. My father and mother both felt VERY uncomfortable by the sales person. This was not as terrible as the terrible service I received. The thing that really pissed me off was that they did not allow me to take pictures. She told me, "Once you say yes to the dress, you can take pictures... You should buy it right now so you can take the pictures and send it to your bridesmaid." If this is a policy, I think it is ridiculous. Brides often try on dresses and make their decisions later -- especially when they have family and friends that cannot be there. The BIGGEST thing that pissed me off was when she asked what is also preventing me from buying the dress. I mentioned in my explanation (although I felt very uncomfortable she was even asking me this) that my fiance is a veteran and they were giving us a great veteran's discount. They she LAUGHED and said fine, we will give you a discount and just call it a veteran's discount. I thought this was incredibly rude and unprofessional response to a generous gesture by another business. *Also, don't ever buy the dresses full price. They say they have a 'one-time' discount but have it every weekend. I ended up purchasing a dress from here even though I had a terrible experience because 1. they could ship it to the location I am currently residing. 2. the dress was really stunning. The material was beautiful and fit me very well. However, after this whole ordeal I think I should've chosen another shop because I feel very bitter about this experience. I don't have beautiful memories of choosing 'the dress'. Instead I am angry and upset ... as I am writing this review. Hang on. I'm not done yet. My wedding date is June and was expecting the dress January -- only because the sales person promised she can have it in by then -- no problem. I never suggested the date -- I just told her I would want it early so I can alter it to perfection. My sales person calls me in November and asks me why I wanted it in January. I reminded her that it was HER that suggested the date... she wrote it on my receipt... then she firmly suggesting that they CANNOT guarantee that date or rather ANY date. I asked for the manager and asked if it could be in at least by March -- again, she said she couldn't guarantee any date. Why would I buy a wedding dress if you can't guarantee a shipment date? I asked her if she can get it in my May and again she said... no guarantee. THANKFULLY, it did come in EARLY JANUARY. I don't know why they felt the need to call me and make a big fuss of everything but yikes you do NOT want to do that to a bride. I'm almost done ya'll... Overall -- dresses are great but I do not recommend the place because of the experience. It's such a big part of the wedding. Go somewhere where you can pop some champagne and can offer you professional service. read more

Bad Service, unprofessional This was 1 of 3 bridal stores I went to in Detroit. It was the worst service of all 3. I told the consultant what my price range was but she may as well have ignored it. She told me there was a perfect dress for me and such a great price.. for some reason she didn't seem to care that it was 25% more than my budget! She was not personable. I felt the staff was very unprofessional. Thankfully there was only one other girl trying on dresses when I was there, but it was awkward we both had to share the same mirror. I had a wonderful experience shopping for my gown at Macy's. Cheri, who was helping me, showed me new gowns as well as two different sample sale areas with gowns up to 70 percent off. I never felt like she was tying to "sell" me on a gown that I didn't like or was out of my price range. The entire staff was very helpful. **Please note- I have not ordered a dress yet, so this review just pertains to the service I received while trying dresses on.** I called Macy's on a Saturday to see if they could fit me in for an appointment to try on dresses, which they did even though it was last minute. I was concerned that I would be rushed due to their other appointments, but this was not at all the case. Tracey was the salesperson assisting us and she is a pro. You can tell she's been doing this for years and enjoys it. She listened to what I had to say, both verbally and by watching my reactions and facial expressions when I tried on the dresses. She also brought out a couple dresses that I wouldn't have thought I'd like, but looked great on. There was no pressure or trying to talk me into anything. She was very patient despite my pickiness and went out of her way to show me different veils and other accessories so I could get an idea of what the whole "look" would be. She also made me think about details I might not have thought of- for example, that if I got married in a more ornate church (there are two we're considering), I'd need a much more "show-stopping" gown versus the simpler gown I was gravitating toward. Again, I haven't purchased yet, but based on my experience with Tracey I'd definitely feel confident ordering with her. read more

My poor experience at Macy's Bridal Salon was partially my own fault, but also had to do with the salon itself. I brought in pictures of what I had been looking at and liked. There was definitely continuity of features that I liked throughout the photos. My consultant did not pull a single dress that was even close to what I was looking for. I was plenty willing to try on styles that I hadn't though about, I know that's what they're there for, but I would have liked to have seen something similar to what I thought I wanted as well. That problem could have been due to the fact that they actually had a very small selection of dresses. The reason I chose to come here was because they carried a few of the designers that I wanted to try on, but they didn't end up having any of the specific dresses that I actually wanted to see. I don't think my consultant really understood what I wanted, which could have been partially my fault for not articulating myself clearly, but that's what I brought the pictures for. Also, when she told me to undress and put the robe on, she gave me literally like ten seconds to change before she busted in again to see if I was ready without knocking. She did offer to try and get the dresses that I wanted to try on in when they have the trunk show in October, which was nice but I live an hour and a half away and I'm not sure if it's worth going all the way back there. If they have the style of dress you are looking for, then I'm sure shopping here would be great, but their selection really just wasn't for me. read more

I went to the salon today after they were able to fit me in an hour and a half after I called! Really exceptional service. Leah helped me. It was obvious she loves her job. She was patient, kind, and helpful even though I tried on like 20 dresses. She was very knowledgeable. I liked the dress selection though it would have been helpful to have a petites section. After I tried on gowns, the staff even selected some bridesmaid dresses for my disabled sister to try on. I can't say enough good things about the service we received today. Glad to see my scathing review I left a few years ago has been removed. Gee, I wonder why. Long story short, go ANYWHERE else but here. They ordered the wrong length of dress for me and it wasn't the type of dress that could be altered, it needed to be completely reordered. When it came in and I went to try it on we realized it was the wrong length and they blamed it on me. When I told them that was absolutely false and suggested they ask the woman who had measured me and helped order my dress they said she had abruptly left the company. They reordered my dress but from that point on they treated me very differently and were rude and unaccommodating. When I went in for my fittings with the new dress, each time I tried it on it was exactly the same, they never took it in, and it was huge around the bust. I drove out there three times for three fittings and each time they said they would take it in but they never did. On my wedding day I had to safety pin it at the armpits so it wouldn't fall off me (it was a strapless dress). Horrible store, horrible service, horrible people. read more

So pleased with Macy's Bridal Salon! I bought my dress in March, with a May wedding date. They called the designer for a special rush and alterations took great care of me with the little amount of time I had before the wedding date. If you get your dress here, make sure you get your alterations done there as well! They made my dress fit like a GLOVE and were so accommodating with my schedule. With the stress of every other wedding planning aspect, I had no concerns when it came to my dress. I wish they had more to offer when it came to shoes, jewelry, etc., but overall I had an awesome experience. read more

Staff: 5 stars. Selection: 3 stars. After I got engaged I went to Macy's bridal salon in hopes that I would find something simple for the simple wedding that I want. Unfortunately they do not offer basic dresses without belles and whistles. Although I was a bit disappointed that they did not have exactly what I was looking for, Pam was extremely helpful in entertaining my wish to try on one of the more extravagant dresses "just in case" I decided to go that way. She was very attentive, helped me pick one out one my body type, and when I couldn't decided between two, she let me try on both. Although she knew I probably was not going to purchase since I did not plan on getting one of these types of gowns, she gave me very personal and patient attention and answered all of my questions and "what ifs". She also said that if I find another dress somewhere else that I could come in and she could help accessorize me - which I may do since I really enjoyed her kind attentiveness. She called me a couple weeks later to follow up, however I was too busy to call back (sorry Pam!). Overall, if a bride is looking for a very special dress for a bigger wedding, the selection would be better for that, and Pam would be a great person to help. read more

Gloria and the rest of the staff are great! The bridal gowns seem to come in faster than the bridesmaid dresses for some reason but that's the only "downside". My daughter went in for a dress. It was good only to that point. She purchased her veil also and paid for it. She called for more than a month to find out when she would get it. Noone called back.. She finally got through to Lena a month later, she told her that it would come in Apr next year on the day of her wedding.. My daughter said that she never gave a wedding date ( and she didn't know her date at the time and I was there) The girl said that she would have to wait till Apr. for her wedding day. and it hasn't even been ordered. WTH?? My D asked for her money back or get it by Dec. The girl said "no returns" and she stated she didn't care because she wouldn't be there. I am SO disappointed in this company! While shopping with my daughters on two occasions, 3 years apart.... we were meeting for dinner at Macy's and decided to take a peek at dresses in the Bridal Salon. On both occasions we were met with rude and disrespectful sales people. Knowing we did not have a standing appointment and we just dropped in we quickly apologized and asked if we could just look a bit and maybe try on a few bridesmaid dresses, we said we would not bother any of the sales people to not take away from someone with an appointment. We were met with a very stern NO. So Macy's we went where we were welcome.... bought all of our bridal party dresses somewhere else for both weddings. If you only had one more sales person to handle drop in guests, you might sell more in your Bridal Salon at Somerset in Troy. One of the reviews said the atmosphere is weird. That is a good description of how we felt both times, like they were doing us a favor to even let us step in without an appointment! read more

My friend and I both ordered our dresses from Macy's and both had horrible experiences. My friends dress came in a week before her wedding (about 3 weeks later than it was supposed to) and when we got there and opened it up it had about a million pulls all through the tulle. No one at the store had even looked it over prior to us arriving. The manager said it was "defective material" (how it passed through quality control is beyond me) with no time left my friend had to buy the sample dress which was too small. Although they reduced the price, it didn't change the fact that she had to wear a dress that was too small and had been tried on a hundre times. My dress was ordered in the wrong size and did not fit at all, they had to keep taking it out/in up to two days before my wedding even though I ordered 6 months in advance. Plus when I tried on the sample they clipped it back tighter and told me that "the dress could absolutely be altered to look the way it was clipped" however on the Thursday (TWO DAYS) before my wedding they said it could not be done and that they were "sorry" so rather than a trumpet dress I had to wear an a-line. After countless problems like this they finally said well we ordered the right dress according to the chart, so we said well is this a manufacturing defect because the alterations lady at Macy's agreed with me that the correct size had NOT been ordered and their response was well we have had a lot of problems with Romona Keveza which is why we no longer carry her line, but we will give you back $150 for your bustle. So I spent $3500 on a dress that didn't fit properly and couldn't be altered the way in which they "sold" it to me. FIND A DIFFERENT PLACE TO BUY YOUR DRESS! read more
