I was shopping for a pair of pumps for work and received less than mediocre service. The lady that assisted me with getting shoes in my size was friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed which I completely understand. After I tried on the shoes, I decided to try other options. She was busy with another customer so I decided to ask another associate standing at the register. He appeared to be doing absolutely nothing and even had a bored look on his face. When I inquired about the sizes needed, "Mohammed" asked who was helping me and that I had to ask her. He went on to say that he couldn't help me due to commission. Huhn????? Really???? So much for customer service. Then walked away stating he had a customer who clearly did not require his assistance at the moment. I even heard the lady say, "I'm fine" and he just stood there. I wonder if this form of customer service was taught by the department because I decided to ask someone else and again informed to see the associate originally helping me. What happened to team work. Give her the commission, just give me the darn shoes in the size I requested!!! Geez!!!! I usually don't write reviews. Nothing personal, it's just not me. But this deserves special mention, because I felt I was treated more than fairly and that doesn't happen very often. So here's the story: I'm a transgender woman early in transition, which means I spend some time in girl mode and some time pretending to be a boy. I had a close family member pass away suddenly, and because most of my family hadn't seen me in girl mode before, I thought it more appropriate (for the occasion) to present as a male. But I didn't have a suit, so I ran out to Macy's and bought one for a total cost of $400. I don't have that kind of money to throw away on something I'll never wear again, so I thought I'd try and return it. Not wanting to discuss my transgender issues with the salesperson, I made up a story about why I was returning the suit. She could tell, however, that the suit had been worn. Long story short, she took it back. I was so relieved, and I think it says a lot about Macy's as a company that they'd be willing to do this. As far as I'm concerned, they've earned my business, which will turn out good for them since now that $400 can go towards building my (female) fall and winter wardrobe. In fact, they'll make more back than what I paid for the suit. read more

This is for Macy's HOME FURNISHINGS only! Went there today and spent 3.5 hours with a lovely saleslady named Margaret. She helped my bf and I buy a whole living room, office set, and dining room table without any pressure. Margaret even tried to get us to buy sale pieces when she works off commission!! True salesmanship right there :) We spent a large chunk of money but never felt so happy to spend it with someone like her! *My only qualm is with the manager that was there. The registers were malfunctioning while we were there and while Margaret was trying to figure out what was wrong, the manager just kept saying "did you break it again? are you going to break another one??" and she offered us NO apologies as my bf, Margaret and I ran around from register to register all of them malfunctioning. TREAT YOUR EMPLOYEES BETTER!!!!!!! ****I don't know how much longer Margaret will be there because she said she is going to Europe to take care of her mom, but if you need furniture soon, go see her!!! read more

I try not to write one-star reviews if I can help it...but I really just can't get my experience here out of my mind. I think it'll help most if I just share what I've experienced. Once was last year, my friend had ordered clothes online and gone to pick it up. Somehow, the Macy's we went to (this one) didn't have it, and we had to go to Macy's Home...to pick up clothes. Not sure how that works, but okay. Due to the confusion last year and the lack of help and clarification we got, I decided to go to my closest Macy's (Macy's Home) first to make sure I got what I ordered online. When I got to Macy's Home, it took 20 minutes for me to get the help that I needed to check on my online order. I first went to customer service, who led me to the area where you pick up online orders. When he led me there, he was slightly confused as to why no one was at the register, but he had to go back and handle the people he was helping who looked pretty unhappy. I would've hoped he told someone to go to that register, but okay--I waited there for 15 minutes, and people kept going up to me asking me if I worked there; so I could tell everyone was desperate to get the help they needed. Finally, I got fed up and walked around the whole store to find help, and found THREE employees helping one person all in one place. I notified one of them that there were 3 people back where I came from who were seeking help, but they didn't seem to care. It was rather alarming. But fine, I found out this wasn't the place I needed to go, so I went to Macy's. Then, I went to Macy's and stopped by a MAC register to get a make up item I was already familiar with, so I didn't need much help. However, noone was at the register and I had to circle the register to try and find someone. I guess the lady noticed from another register or wherever she was, because she then appeared. I then asked her where I could get online pick-up. She told me to go straight down. I went "straight down" until I got to...nowhere that was clear that it was an online pick up site. I was again, asked if I worked there, and I had to say no. So I wandered a bit to find a register close to where the lady said, hoping that I could find it. I got to counter with 2 registers--1 lady that was helping another customer, and 2 ladies that were gossiping about something. My patience was already running thin, so I kind of just stood there and stared at them....until a few minutes later they stopped gossiping and decided to help me. They were unable to help with online pick-ups, and directed me to go back where I originally was, and turn left. Finally, I found the place, which was further back than they said (I had to ask another register), and I waited again for a register to be open. Again, there was one open, but she took her time doing admin things before she decided to help me. An ordeal that should've taken me at most 20 minutes took an hour. The workers here seem extremely unmotivated to do work, and don't even know their store well enough to give the right directions to their customers (and they don't even care). There seems to be "enough" workers, but there were too many customers including myself who was seeking help but couldn't find anyone to help them. And there was no sense of urgency; the customer service here is just plain awful. I've read through the other reviews, and I can see I'm not the only one who feels this way, and these reviews go way back. It baffles me how these practices continue. What is the point of getting a good deal if you can't even find people to pay for it, or pick it up? Clearly Macy's doesn't read these reviews, but I do hope there will be improvements...one day. read more

I got up early to take advantage of Macy's 20th "once in a lifetime"special of the year and decided to try Macy's Montgomery mall since I rarely go there. I got there a few minutes after they opened and it was empty like I expected (and like I like it!). I immediately noticed how warm the store was, but charged it to the fact that they had just opened. Employees greeted me and we're helpful and friendly. The store had a good selection of sizes and styles, but the store was so uncomfortably warm that I sped up my trip. Escalator was broken and overall I was taken aback at how run down and dated the store looked. Dressing rooms were dank, locks broken and just overall shabby. This surprised me considering that Montgomery mall is a very nice mall and in a high end area of town. The condition of the store was my main observation, but I consider the trip a success since I walked out with two tops for $27 bucks! I have no reason to rush back to this location though since it appears to be no better than any other location. read more

Purchased a queen size mattress at this location. The delivery process was horrible, the delivery people were rude and didn't speak to me at all. They entered my apt without booties and didn't give me the white glove treatment as advertised. In addition, my bed doesn't measure the size of a queen size bed!!! What the heck!! I didn't realize it u til my 6'0 son laid in my bed and it didn't fit him. It fit more like a xl double - if that even is a thing. The mattress is measured 76' length and 56' wide. Smaller than a queen size bed. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS STORE! They promise you one thing- you pay for one thing and get something else. You always have a choice-- choose another store very disappointed. Can't do anything about it now. Spent $1500 for a double bed... smh read more

Montgomery Mall Macy's: Mirror, mirror on the wall...Am I the best Macy's store out here in the DC area? Me: Maybe? I haven't really check out that many Macy's stores around here. However, I can give you a review of this store. Being located at Moco where I guess most people are either more petite or smaller, I was fascinated by the shoes department. Most of them are carrying my size (6) and even out on display. I love how I can find things my size here. The customer service in this Macy's is just okay. I wouldn't really write home about that area. The service here is more like one question one answer and they wouldn't try their best to help you. Came to Macy's and found a silverware set labeled as 18/10 stainless steel (if you are unfamiliar, 18/10 deals with the metals in the silverware and is considered the highest quality before purchasing actual silver). When I got home, I checked the product website and found that the exact product is actually only 18/0, the lowest quality. I contacted Macy's for an explanation. After all, this is an issue of the quality of metal...it would be no different than if Macy's sold iron pyrite as real gold. Macy's never replied. Expect false advertising to convince you their products are higher quality and thus justify higher prices. read more

I spent several hours searching for some new threads, and was unhappy with my progress. That's when Donald stepped in. He works in the men's suit coat dept, and gave some of the best customer service I've had from a retailer. He went with me from section to section and made style suggestions based on what I tried on. I liked it so much I told him I would be back every month and would come to him personally to purchase a new ensemble. I think of him as my personal stylist at this point. This Macy's is similar to most other Macy's in the area - which is to say that it is just A-Okay. Gone are the days when Macy's used t excel at customer service; now it is a place to buy generic clothing items at a reasonable price. Selection is the same every season and the percentage of inspired clothing has gone down over the years - I guess they want to stay in the safe zone and appeal to the general populace as against the fashion minded shopper. This is not a bad thing, but you end up with the same generic stuff as Jack and Jane on the street. read more

We ordered our bed, mattresses, and bedroom bench for our master bedroom here at the Bethesda home store. Our sales associate, Margaret, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about all things mattress and furniture. She had answers to my many questions and even gave recommendations based on our sleeping patterns, habits, and positions. On the back-end, the warehouse could do better. Our bed was sent with wrong parts so the delivery men, who let me know this happens often, were forced to leave our bed half built. When I called into customer service, they were pretty nonchalant about the mishap and tried to schedule the appropriate parts to be delivered weeks later. Luckily, we had another bed to sleep in and I was able to hitch that delivery onto another order I had coming in for my couch and accent chairs from the Tyson's store so I was able to get the new parts in a week. The back-ordered bench was scheduled to be delivered last week but had fallen out of the account authorization time frame so they cancelled the delivery. I had to call and handle that so hopefully it'll arrive tomorrow as promised. Through all of this, Margaret continues to be awesome. With delivery charges running $115 apiece, she called in to check with me and arranged for a $50 gift card to be sent for all of the inconvenience. read more

Macys Home Store Andrew last four of UD is 0164, store 33. Was covering the bedding department by himself. I have to give him kudos for engaging and acknowledge all customers with 30 minutes prior to close. I witnessed him stay calm and helpful as this woman had him running in the back, checking the system as if her personal assistant. He spoke professionally, inquired into every inquiry this woman had while he also answered other customer questions including several I had as well as working the floor. If you like LOUD obnoxious music blasting then this is a good shopping experience for you. Be prepared to shout at your shopping companion to be heard. And make sure you dont need to use the smelly, broken faucets, broken hand dryers in the ladies' room - if ypu can find it. The dressing room - use only of you don't mind dirty floors, broken locks and uncleared merchandise. The sofa outside the dressing room probably houses mice- it has an enormous hole in the seat with stuffing coming out of it. Dont drop anything on the floor though. It will blend in with the dirt and stains and you'll never find it. read more

This is the closest location to me, I shop a lot at Macy's and since always so that's why I can compare. To start their customer service is horrendous, you will never receive a good morning or have a great day, also the staff is always gone If you need something you'll have to do it yourself and when there's a chance to catch one of the associates they will be rude or even hurry! This is one of the better Macy's in the area, in Maryland at least. It's not as nice as the Nordstrom's, which is also attached to Montgomery Mall, but it is more reasonably priced. The plus-sized Women's section is probably the best one in any of the Department stores in this part of Maryland. I have regularly found Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein here. The sale racks and shelves can be kind of a mess throughout this department store. read more

Went to store, picked out men's suit, opened a Macy's CC account (American Express). Required to provide driver's license, SSN, and major credit card. Did so, opened account, purchased men's suit. That afternoon a fraudulent charge was made to the major credit card I used to open the account. Thus began the process of calling that card issuer, the cops, the store, the 3 credit reporting companies, etc. Will NOT patronize this store again nor use the American Express card either. It's weird, when the Macy's Home Store opened up (as opposed to the normal Macy's that has just clothing stuff), I was rather opposed to having the stores seperated. But over time, I've decided that this is a good thing...except that the Macy's Home Store needs to be run slightly better. I've bought a ton of stuff here...when one buys a new house, one says goodbye to having disposable income (much like having a kid), and one gets to know all the area home goods store quite well. The store here isn't bad, except that we can never find anyone to help us for love or money. Take for example the time that I was trying to buy a barware set for my husband. He had seen a bunch of rocks glasses and decanters that he liked, and later on that week, I came back to try to purchase it for him...only to be unable to find the matching decanter. I stood around. Went to hang out near the cash register. Nada. Couldn't find a single sales person in that entire section. So I walked out and didn't buy him the barware set (which is fine, because I found a much better one at Tiffany's a few weeks later). However, the most recent visit, my parents were looking to buy a quilt to take with them when they travel (yes, my family brings their own pillows and linens when we stay in hotels...yes, the airlines just loooooooooves our 3000000 bags). They wanted something big, but lightweight and warm. Oh, and pretty. But won't show stains. Basically, they wanted everything in one blanket. Surprisingly, we found a quilt at this store that almost fit the bill...only it was a twin sized and we needed at least a queen. After 30 minutes of walking around, we finally found someone to help us (clearly, I was in a rotten mood at this point). But having have found someone to help us...she was clueless (had to explain to her the difference between a twin and a queen and a king...what what?!?) but eager to help. Even offering to shlepp into the storeroom to look for the quilt in a queen. After another 30 minutes...voila! She was victorious! So while finding someone to assist can be hard, once you are lucky enough to find someone, they are very helpful. So that's something, right? Now, if only the folks over at the regular Macy's store could learn this too, we would have something! read more

I normally receive excellent service at this Macy's, but the other day I was treated very poorly by one of the associates. I was looking at some handbags and the associate came over and stared at me with not even a foot of distance between us. She didn't even "greet" me with a "Hello. Can I help you find anything?" I understand watching to prevent theft (isn't that what loss prevention and and sensor tags are for anyway?), but once you start to make the guests of the store feel uncomfortable, you have crossed the line. I was very hurt and upset and was even ready to cancel my card with Macy's. I took my business and my money to Nordstrom and purchased my handbags there where the lady was very happy to assist, not judgmental, and made me feel comfortable. I would still recommend the store as I am sure one bad apple does not spoil the bunch, but I would recommend some training. read more

Horrible customer service. Went there for their president's day sale. Had to wait 5 minutes for a sales person to turn around and man his cash register, while he was too busy folding clothes. Then my wife had to wait 15 minutes in the Hue section. When she asked in another section they said they can't leave their section. I used their phone and dialed the only number on the phone " loss prevention". She said she can't help. I said I standing right by the door and I don't want to walk out without paying. She laughed, but still couldn't help. Finally a manager came by and found someone from another department. She said she doesn't know cause she doesn't work in that department. We gave up. read more

Unbelievable. I went for a seasonal part-time job interview yesterday. Scheduled my interview at 5:15, walked in at 5:05 and... 1. They couldn't find my resume or had a clue as to why I was there (I scheduled my interview through their online system and received a confirmation, does the online site and store not communicate with one another's system? Hmmm) 2. I was asked to reschedule my interview and informed that I would be called back the following morning 3. No call was ever received. The biggest waste of my time yesterday evening and to think, I actually rushed home from my regular 9-5 full time job for this interview. Never again. I wish I had the office number to the cooperate HR office to write them a letter... I may look for it this evening. As far as the store itself. It's not organized at all nor do they have the friendliest people working there. I took time to walk around the store after receiving this very unprofessional treatment just to check out the atmosphere and observe the workers. I really think their cooperate office needs to have mystery shoppers come into this store and do an overhaul but... it's Macy's so I'm sure nothing will change. read more

Had a decent experience here today, in both the home store *and* the clothing store. Home store first. I went there to buy wedding gifts for some friends off their registry, having never done anything like that before. Dude behind the register was helpful, had an ok sense of humor, and helped me print the registry out and pick up exactly what i wanted - no bull. Was out of there in 10 minutes (including waiting in line) with these napkins that i'm sure will ensure decades of wedded bliss. Clothes next. It helps to review/approach retail stores as an ex- retail employee myself. I came on the third day of the veterans day weekend sale (honor vets and freedom, buy clothes?) so the store had already been ransacked by the mall wolverines for 48 hours before i showed up. So, it was messy, yeah, but employees (even with recovery shift-ers) can't possibly keep up with everything that's going on; simply isn't possible. Anyway, regardless of the maelstrom surrounding them the associates were very helpful. and I came out with a decently priced pair of pants, skinny so i can show off my greek god legs to the cute girl at work. This review contains both a "boo!" and a "yay!" I was helping a friend with some shopping, which meant checking out the men's section at Macy's. We were there for a good 15 minutes, and no one offered to help. Later we returned, and were finally approached by a salesperson who ended up being VERY helpful. Sadly, this Macy's is too often understaffed, and inefficient sales personnel outnumber the efficient, helpful ones. read more

I really don't care for any Macy's store. To me ever since the late 80's Macy's has just gone down hill with quality and is not where near the league with other 'true' high end department stores. Estée Lauder staff went on break with 2 people waiting, went to another associate who said Clinique associate could help, who directed me to the Bobbi brown associate who refused to help and then went to text on her phone. No one would phone for help or bring this to a manager. Finally an associate from Clarins came back from break and tried to help the 3 people now waiting. 2 minute purchase with my 3 year old took 25. Need to find a place that knows about holiday staffing or spacing break times and customer service. read more

The SA's at the fragrance counter are extremely pushy and will literally chase you around the counter and make you smell all sorts of fragrances. I've had three associates pestering me to sample their perfumes in a matter of five minutes today, even after I've denied their help and told them "Thanks, but I'm just browsing." It is a shame that the fragrance section is the first thing you will walk past as soon as you enter Macy's from the mall because their associates really know how to annoy you to the point that you won't even want to buy anything from there anymore. I left and made a purchase at Nordstrom instead. read more

my fiancé and i are registered at this particular macy's and their wedding registry department invited us for a "sip & scan" event last night. if not familiar with the "sip & scan" events, macy's provide this opportunity for soon-to-be married couples registered in their store to come in, partake of hors deuvres and drinks (mainly non-alcoholic), while the couples go around with the scan gun and scan items they want on their registry. anyways, last night was our first registry event and the staff was extremely helpful. they even gave advice on sheets when we were all the way in the bedding area and also another gentleman assisted us with choosing kitchen equipment for our new home together. has to be, by far, the nicest and most informative registry staff i've encountered. even my fiancé was impressed and it takes alot to impress him on anything wedding registry-related. 2 big thumbs up, macy's home store! read more
