Ok, the car hadn't been driven overnight, with only a short drive to the dealer first thing AM. Car's also a hybrid, I don't think the gas engine ran much, or at all, getting there, so the sensors may not have been warmed up and ready... Was advised to drive it around over the weekend and bring it back Tuesday. Tuesday. What can you do? Drove it around rest of Friday, and Sat AM brought it into Lefebvre's. Just before bringing it in, the Check Engine light comes on. Huh? Did some web searching, found that the "Capless" design of the gas fill often has dirt/leak issues that show up as CE light. Lefebvre's was right onto that too. Checked the CE codes, cleaned out the gas fill, advised to drive it around a bit and come back in a few hours. A few hours. Not Tuesday. A few hours later, with the CE light still off, it passed inspection. Thanks Lefebvre's! Liked the fact that my online search for info wasn't viewed as a problem, and that you were able to deal with the real problem easily, with a "we're all in this together" 'tude.

I went to them a few years ago after getting cleaned out by another mechanic two years in a row. The second time, it was obvious fraud (complete failure to address the problem coupled with replacing a part that was good). Am I glad I switched! They do look at things carefully and give accurate assessments of both current and impending problems (like tire wear, for instance, AHEAD of when they need to be replaced). There is absolutely no pressure to buy parts or services from them, based on what they report. From what I've seen and other people tell me, the Darlings try to keep repairs as reasonably affordable as they can. They are more than willing to prioritize what needs to be done, so it can be spread out. Their hourly labor rate is competitive with similar businesses, but since they are competent, it's kind of a bargain. The only drawback is that A LOT of people recommend Phil and Son's. That's bad because it means that there's a wait when I want to get MY car in. In spite of that, I've directed my best friends there because what nicer thing can you do for your friends than to find a very good and ethical mechanic? If they could just book their cars in AFTER mine....

Gave me a very ambiguous disruption of what he had actually done to fix it! I'm very disappointed and upset I threw away $230 on nothing to have my car break down the same day I picked it up. Most shops make $xx/hour, it's just their rate and there's nothing you can do about it. However, most people dont realize that a lot of shops bill you for hours or "learning on the job". Not necessarily being dishonest, but they end up finding the problem through process of elimination which ends up as billed hours. Now take Jerry and his team, they're literally experts at troubleshooting and can diagnose the problem often just from your description. Most of the parts replacements these days are relatively quick, but diagnosis can be costly, so go to the guys that just get right to it instead of "learning on the job".

There is no way a small shop could survive for as long as Dave has been there without providing outstanding service. From my long experience with Dave's, the 2 one star reviews that I read here are mostly true, but take them for what they are worth. This is not a 10 minute lube joint. They will take the time to fix your vehicle right and do it at a fair price. They don't stay in business by pumping 100 cars through a day and doing a crappy job. Because it isn't a big shop or dealership with 30 mechanics, there are delays and sometimes cancellations. I will leave you with this; would you want a place that rushes through your repairs and does a half @$$ job on your car because someone else is scheduled to be done at that time? Do you want someone to charge you more because they know you are going to have to come back to get the job done right and do repairs that don't need to be done? Do you need to have a hotel lobby to drop off your keys or pick up your car? If you answered yes to any of these, please don't go to Dave's. If you want it done right the first time, and done for a fair price, this is where you should go.
