I'd stay a night for the atmosphere and the location is great! But I prefer the short hills Hilton or now renovated Madison hotel for serious hotel stay time. They are more comfy and have things this doesn't like phones in the room (like is there room service or what?) Also the wifi did not work for 2 of the days I stayed.

We were there in November, when temperatures varied by 20 degrees throughout the day. It was 60 degrees outside when I called Maria because the bedroom was too hot. She came right over, opened the bedroom window to let the radiator heat out, and turned off the heat for the building. She also brought linens so I could use the folding bed in the (cooler) living room.

The rooms are intimate, clean and have all the amenities one would need for a stay. Restaurants, bars and the train station are within walking distance, which makes it all the more accessible. The room itself was pretty mid-range compared with some other NYC boutique hotels we've stayed at, but the bed was AMAZING. I also loved the shower and water pressure in the bathroom. Speaking of showers... we ended up taking quite a few because unfortunately, our AC stopped working in the middle of the night. Yes, I kid you not. Middle of summer, 90+ degree weather, and no AC! Definitely not ideal. The hotel did acknowledge the inconvenience and promised us a complimentary night, which we really appreciated. We haven't heard back regarding that yet, so hopefully they follow through. Despite the AC situation, there's a lot we really liked about this hotel, and the experience was positive enough that we're looking forward to coming back and exploring more of what they have to offer. We had a nice room with bathroom ensuite. My friend and I were not able to stay for breakfast but they had a nicely appointed kitchen and island seating area, and other rooms where you could dine. Despite all rooms being filled with antiques, the house had a comfy feel to it. I really appreciated the ability to get into NYC easily and cheaply from this property . The NJ Transit station is about five minutes away (Maplewood Station). You can buy your tickets at a kiosk right at the station. In June of 2024, a round trip ticket into NYC was $15 and it's a 40 minute ride each way. Look at njtransit.com for train schedules - -generally a train every hour. You are dropped off right at Penn Station. When you are leaving NYC and going back to NJ , enter Penn Station from the corner of 7th Ave and 31st Street -- there is a NJ Transit entrance and you will see stairs or escalators and can get downstairs to access fare Kiosks as well as the tracks. (If you enter from other entrances at Penn Stations, it's a bit challenging to figure out how to get downstairs for the NJ Transit tracks)
