Eight years of five-star work. I'm an independent researcher and writer whose life is wrapped up in my Apple "fleet." In addition to my MacBook Pro (latest in a long series), that includes my retired husband's MacBook Air, iPad2 and both of our iPhones. I'm computer savvy, but I'm a tech staff of one, and when things go south over something I can't understand or fix, there's no place that comes close to MacMedics for being always trustworthy, reliable, knowledgable authorized Mac humans who always know how to fix a problem, efficiently and at a fair price. Their aura of calm soothes my frayed nerves the minute I cross the door jamb carrying my dysfunctional Apple. I've listened to Dana Stibolt walk panicked users like me through the best ways to retrieve a crashed photo collection without breaking the bank. I've had damage repaired there for which they have gone out of their way to legitimately split the charge between my warranty and my-out-of-pocket expense, to keep my expenses lower. I've had MacMedics staff assure me that, if some elusive answer to a Mac-wide problem or development may not yet be clear, "Apple always makes it right" (and they believe it, too). I will always buy my Apple products from MacMedics, just as I will always go to them first---a 30-mile drive from my home (but I'd drive even further, if necessary---to get things working again, whether my product is in or out of warranty. Impeccable service! Knowledgeable staff! Informative web-site. They took very good care of me. My iPod Classic would not recognize any power source and would not charge. I dropped my iPod off at the Millersville facility on a Monday afternoon. The check-in process was efficient and the staff friendly. I explained the problem to the technician and after brief examination she informed me that the charging connector looked damaged which required replacing the logic board. She then explained the service process, gave me price quotes (which were very resonable) and sited a 24 hour turn-around. They offer the choice of being contacted by phone or email. The next day a technician (Reese) followed up as promised and went over the results of the diagnostics. As it turned out, my hard drive was also damaged and I needed data recovery. All said and done, it wasn't feasible to undergo the repairs. Reese pointed me to a refurbished unit with similar specs as mine for less than what I'd have paid to repair and recover my data. I'm impressed and very pleased with MacMedics. One thing to note: they only do out of warranty iPod service. This is noted on the Check-in Form. Every time I go into this MacMedics with a problem these guys take care of it usually that day. The exception to that is when my laptop crashed. I decided that I wanted to try a PC instead of a Mac so I went to Best Buy. They told me that my data was not recoverable, so I took it to my old-faithful, MacMedics in Severna Park (where I should have taken it at first). When I told the guy that my laptop crashed and that I did not have it backed up, he was very nice and did not judge. Sure enough, they recovered my data (this is when it took them 2 days to complete the job). I bought a very nice refurbished laptop from them at good price. I have had it about a year, and I love it. He also talked to me about how to back up my data and helped me pick out a backup system and he then set it up for me. More recently, I had some malware pop up on me laptop in the middle of a project. I took it right to them and they fixed it right there in front of me, no waiting or coming back to pick it up. It was awesome and I was able to complete my project that was due the next day. I'm not computer savvy, but these guys talk to me in an understandable way without talking down to me. When my son spilled coffee on his Macbook air we brought it to MacMedics in Severna Park. On initial inspection, it appeared to the tech that only the I/O board was damaged. Though there was evidence that coffee had gotten on the logic board as well it was tested and working with the caveat that no guarantees could be made as to problems that might crop up 6 months down the road. We authorized those repairs but after a couple of days it was evident that the Air would not charge. Jeff Herndon, the Service Manager, looked it over and determined that liquid had impacted the logic board as well. Being an electronic tech for 30 years myself, I understand that liquids can be elusive and take time to do their worst. Long story short, we decided to purchase a refurbished mac book pro with better features and a 1 year warranty for less than it would have cost to get the Air repaired. Jeff applied all of what we spent previously on repairs towards the new laptop and transferred the hard drive as well so no data or apps were lost. Laptop is running great and we really appreciate the special attention Jeff gave us. Would highly recommend them for any Mac service! read more

What a great find the MacMedics are! We were having problems with a 2 year old Macbook Pro that would not boot up. We were told at the genius bar that the OS needed to be reloaded. (They didn't tell us about saving the existing docs with Target Mode, but luckily we found out about that online.) We reloaded the OS, but problem re-emerged 2 weeks later. Apple Care ran diagnostics and said the SSD needed to be replaced, but Apple wouldn't touch it since I had opened the case during the prior problems. I drove it to MacMedics without an appointment (exchanged emails with them first), and they put the machine on the workbench and started on it immediately. Gave me options, ran several tests, and opined that it was not the hard drive at all. I left an hour later with a clean SDD and new OS installation, and a bill under $80. In addition, they were kind and helpful to the other customers at the counter with me. It's been great ever since! I'm going back whenever I have issues with my Apple devices. read more

We have been referred to Mac Medics by our Apple store when we needed to replace our laptop screen. This was the best referral we ever received. Excellent service and very good price. They changed only the screen not the entire cover.... while at the Apple store they replace the entire cover, hence almost double the price of repair. They also provided excellent advice over the phone for minor problems. Last time our old G4 seemed to have a panic attack, all icons were blinking. After the Apple store told us they do not support G4s any more, (too old....) we returned to Mac Medics. While we waited for the diagnostic, it was quiet and calm, far from the hustle and bustle and the noise of the Apple store, plus we were offered a nice, cool bottle of water, just what we needed. The diagnostic came... it was just a faulty keyboard...... We highly recommend Mac Medics and we plan to use other services they offer such as training and even buy our new Mac when that time will come. read more

This is a mixed review of Mac Medics. I have had good service here when I left left my laptop to be tweaked for various issues. A few days ago I went in because I use Gmail and was having trouble with sending outgoing mail. The guy behind the counter started a timer and, I suppose because the issue was resolved fairly quickly, I left without a penny out of pocket and my problem solved. I was grateful. Today however, I went in because the issue had reoccured. This time, although someone else behind the counter was willing to look at it, he determined that because it was a Gmail problem and not a Mac problem, my choices were either to try to fix it myself (I had, and I think most people do before driving to try to get it fixed), or schedule a 1-1, or have someone come to my house. Fair enough, but confusing from a customers perspective. I'll add that the small courtesies of helping a customer out the way Guy Number 1 did, does a lot to earn repeat business and recommendations. read more

I am an enormous fan of MacMedics, for decades. Yesterday I took my MacBook Pro from 2010 with a System Failure. In no time, I had a refurbished one, my daughter bought a refurbished one from them 2 years ago with no problems, and they set me up with a few clicks to open my "new" computer with my desktop completely intact. I cannot tell you how many times I have relied on them for their professional expertise. I love the peace of mind just knowing, if I have any problems, I can run to them and get my answers and the solution, and not be hosed in the process. Going to MacMedics, is like going to your local car mechanic instead of the dealer. My local mechanic is honest, trustworthy, the best mechanic I know, and never does anything I don't need. My name is George and my Mac G4 17" laptop died on Saturday (02/19/11). I took it to the Apple store in Columbia Mall on Sunday and after their diagnostic service, they indicated that they could not either determine the problem or repair my laptop because it was obsolete. However, the best thing that they did do was to was recommend MacMedics, to me. On Monday, I called MacMedics and they asked me if I could bring my laptop in that day. Within two hours they had provided me a quote to repair my unit, but they recommended that I should replace it, if possible. Because of the used and reconditioned units that MacMedics has in stock, I was able to upgrade to a Mac Pro - 17" within the timeframe and at a price that was within my budget. On Tuesday (02/22/11) MacMedics (Matthew) had that unit ready for pick up with all of my data transferred from my old laptop and ready for use. Great response, great service and great price. My computer's battery was being faulty. I called AppleCare, and they gave me three places I could take my Mac. So happy I chose MacMedics, even though it was a much farther drive for me. They were the ones who were most available on the phone while also giving me the shortest estimate on when I could get my computer back--an estimate that ended up being exactly when I was back in business. After a few days since I got my computer back, I see no issues whatsoever with their work. I was also extremely glad to see how much they cared about the safety of their staff and customers, with limited people in the store, masks required, and either social distancing or plexi-glass barriers, with constant sanitation. Our son had his MacBook Air stolen a year and a half ago at Penn State, and an honest student, who had unknowingly bought it from the thief, returned it to us. I learned from the girl who bought it that she will be teaching underprivileged kids in Miami, FL with Americorps after graduating from PSU. We had replaced my son's computer already, so we were going to unlock the stolen computer, clean it up, and send it back to her to help her do good things. Unlocking proved a lot more difficult than anticipated due to the theft, and I had to to take it to MacMedics for help; which they provided. When I told them the facts of what happened and what we were doing with the computer, they waived the service fee. These guys are not only good techs, they are great people! They'd earned my business before, but now they've cemented that loyalty by earning a great deal of respect. read more

I used to work for MacMedics, so I don't know if that makes this review more positive or suspect, but I know that Dana's biggest concern is to make sure that his customers are taken care of and if they ever need Macintosh service or advice in the future that they don't think of going anywhere else. After leaving MacMedics, I became a full-time photographer and have continued to use Macs in my day to day work life. Even after relocating across the country to San Diego, I still contact Dana and the crew at MacMedics when I have problems, or am looking for hardware advice. I still receive the MacMedics InfoSource newsletter which is a great source of Mac related news as well as helpful information that their technicians have experienced in the field. I have been a customer of Mac Medics for a long time. It seems that whenever I run into a jam, be it a crash of a hard drive or something less urgent such as a problem with my iphoto library, mac medics has come through with flying colors! They are professional, knowledgeable, and efficeint. They calmly determine what the problem is and offer solutions to fix it. Last week I raced to mac medics with my back up drive which I thought might be compromised because of a power surge. I was going to arrive after closing time, and after calling Dana Stibolt, he assured me that he would wait for me because he understood the urgency of the situation. I brought my 7-year-old MacBook into MacMedics b/c it wouldn't boot up. Turns out my hard drive was shot. I had some of my data backed up, but none of my Word Documents, which I really wanted to try to retrieve if possible. After running all types of diagnostic tests and doing literally everything they could to retrieve the data, they were only able to save about 25% of my data, but none of my Word Documents were salvageable. The owner was very understanding and only charged me for the new hard drive and parts, despite going above and beyond to try to retrieve my lost Word Documents. Although I live closer to the Columbia Mac Store, I will definitely drive the extra miles to MacMedics in Severna Park for any future repairs on my laptop or phone. The people there are very friendly and helpful and they went the extra mile to get my issue warrantied by Apple. I originally brought my laptop in because of a known issue with this model. They did a great job keeping me informed of the repair status. However, that is not why I am writing this review. After getting the laptop back, it sat on the shelf for about a month as I had switched to a different laptop. When I went to re-image the laptop and get it ready for a user, I noticed the Thunderbolt ports did not work. I had always used the Thunderbolt ports before getting it repaired, so I knew they worked before hand. I took the laptop back for diagnostics. As stable as the platform is like anything they need a tune up from time to time or an upgrade. I think of it like this... "If it's not broken don't fix it" and now when it comes to that mantra I add on and say "If it's not broken.. don't fix it... upgrade.. and take it to MacMedics" and I mean it. I called the day prior to my visit and left message. My telephone call was promptly returned in a short time period. I was having a problem with my MacBook with it not powering up or charging properly and was told to stop by during office hours. when I got to the store I was featured with a smile and told a technician works come out and help me and with seconds a representative by the name of Chris came out to assist me. Chris quickly diagnosedthe problem I was having and fixed it immediately. He then took the time to show me a few things about Apple technology that I was not even aware of.
