I've wanted so badly to like Mac Business Solutions. In fact in the past I've still recommended the…read morecompany even though I felt like they were very overpriced. Unfortunately, we had an issue a few months ago where the screen to our mac book went black. Apparently had we brought the computer in earlier, it would have been covered by warranty, but since we waited until it was fully broken, it no longer qualified. Sucky situation, but it is what it is so we paid the $500 for the fix and went on with our lives. A week or two after getting the laptop back, I noticed that the touch bar was no longer working. The touch bar had never had an issue so I thought maybe something happened during the screen fix. Life got in the way and I didn't get to calling MBS for a few more weeks. When I finally went in, they told me that it was pure "coincidence" that the touch screen stopped working and even though it was literally right after they pulled the computer apart, it definitely wasn't them and they would not fix it... except if we paid another $500. Now we have a touch bar that doesn't work and they've lost a customer and an advocate. Such a disappointment.

Called in advance to ask about how I needed to prepare my computer for servicing and took appropriate steps. Typed up and printed out my contact information should the technician need to ask any questions along the way along with explicit services I needed done: (1) annoying malware removal (2) hard drive memory reallocation. Neither was done. To be clear, the malware was pretty minor - limited to Chrome web browser - I just didn't have the time to hunt down the source myself. Also, the company lists "PC & Mac Virus Removal-Data Recovery-Repair Service" AS PART OF THEIR TAGLINE (google: "computerplus georgetown dc") but couldn't remove even a minor browser malware. The sad part was when I came to pick up my laptop, the person at the register just took my money without blinking an eye and no attempt was made to rectify or refund the $200 I donated to their business. At least a "sorry, we couldn't fix your machine" and I would've respected their integrity - but I have little evidence of that from my own personal experience. My advice, is that if they quote you anything above $125 dollars and there is nothing critical on your machine you need to retrieve, you should seriously consider just buying an old refurbished or desktop computer for $200-300 instead and starting fresh. That is ultimately the path I took. Computers these days are pretty cheap as long as you're open-minded to the brand, device, and model.

I'd give 10 stars if I could!…read more Will and his team of MACgicians S-A-V-E-D me! I've always been a PC user and recently decided to join this century and purchased a MacBook Air (which I LOOOOOVE, incidentally). I had it just about three weeks before it had a major accident...a rendered unusable sort of accident that I can hardly speak of without getting mad all over again. I thought it was not salvageable. I ran to the Apple Store in tears asking for guidance, and oh how they steered me wrong. They recommended a place called Kroll Ontrak way down I66. I drove out there with my machine and left it with them for three days to "analyze it," for which they charged me $65. They called me back once it had been brought back from "the clean room," whatever that is, and told me that they had taken the liberty of beginning the downloading process. I thought that was all really considerate until they gave me the quote for this service. And I choked on it. It wasn't much really; they only wanted my mercedes and my first born child. And there was no room for negotiation. None. So I took back my computer, paid them for their so called analysis, and was on my merry way. I turned to Yelp and found MACS in Alexandria---what a stroke of luck that turned out to be! I called and spoke to Will (the owner). I told him about the fate that had befallen my beloved MacBook Air and his response was, "no problem, bring it in." He was able to salvage everything: years and years worth of files, some new software I had purchased and coincidentally lost the disks for, all my emails, bookmarks and photos! On top of all that, he was able to then file it all away properly on my new MacBook Air. There were no "clean rooms" and there weren't any sort of mysterious processes like Kroll Ontrak had described to me. The best part was that he didn't want my car or my kid, just $125. SO, so reasonable. Later that day I had logged in to my new computer and remembered a question I had meant to ask him about something else unrelated. I called and he offered to fix it for me by logging into my computer remotely using TeamViewer (my old company used to use that software so I was comfortable with this--I know how it works). Talk about customer service! It wasn't even related to the original problem, it was just a question about a functionality on my computer. He just whizzed right around on it and fixed it with no effort. He also pointed out a great mac tutorial site to me so I could learn how to use my computer more effectively. SO NICE! I will not hesitate to use Mid Atlantic Computer Solutions again in the future. They are GREAT!!!

I had a first-rate experience dealing with this company. My laptop stopped functioning; the reviews…read morefor this company were encouraging. I called up and spoke to someone on the phone, and arranged to bring in the laptop for repair -- it sounded as if the solid-state drive was going to have to be replaced, certainly a drag but better than a new laptop. I confess it was a bit off-putting to come into an area hosting some 30 different companies and hand off a computer to a receptionist, even though that's what the voice on the phone had told me to do. But I was contacted even sooner than expected with word that the drive was fine, only windows would have to be reinstalled. Turns out that it was the famous Darrell Cephas, praised in review after review here; he explained what was going on. I was to go in to pick up the laptop the next afternoon. And damned if I didn;t get called out of a meeting following morning because Darrell was dropping off the laptop in person. All fixed. I give extra props because I next consulted him about maybe heloing with our desktop whose hard drive is running out of space. He quoted a price for that work, but very candidly said that the desktop is old enough that it really does not make sense to extricate the guts and install a whole new hard drive. He explained how I could supplement the memory on my own while looking for a new desktop. Recommending against paying work because it doesn't deserve to be done is the mark of a true professional. I don't give many five-star reviews, but I do for this one.

They charged much less as a result, and had said before they started that if they couldn't, they would charge nothing. So strong points for honest and fair pricing. They easily could have taken advantage. My one complaint, for which I ding them one star, is that they're not great with phone stuff. They never called me. When I called them I did so three times, leaving two messages and never got a call back. My third call I got them and was told everything was done, for less money, yada yada. So really, my one complaint is that they need to be better communicators.

I paid $150 for a hinge repair and a charging connector repair, itemized as $75 each. The hinge was…read morefixed. The connector was not; he made me visit the store 3 separate times, wasting my time, only to eventually claim it was a battery issue (a battery he himself had sold and installed in an earlier repair, for $250). When I asked for the $75 refund for the unfinished connector repair, he refused and instead offered to "compensate" with free future fixes for me and my friends, not an actual refund. He also advertises free diagnosis in his own Google reviews, yet I still paid for a diagnosis that led nowhere. When I politely pushed back and asked again for my refund, he got furious, called me a "greedy bastard," used profanity, and hung up on me. This is not how a customer asking for money owed to them should ever be treated. While waiting during my visits, I met other customers with the exact same complaint: repeated visits, no resolution, and eventually giving up on getting their money back. I'm considering filing a formal complaint. I expect he'll reply here claiming diagnosis is free. If you do go here, do not pay upfront and always ask for a proper itemized receipt for any work done.
