Owner / Operator works out of his home by appointment, not at published business address. I brought in my daughter's 2012 MacBook because the keyboard was malfunctioning. I can't speak to the owner's technical expertise but he declared that the keyboard needed to be replaced at a cost of $300 without even trying to type something on it and observe the problem. I explained to him that my daughter needed the machine to study at home that evening and for the next few days for upcoming tests and that I could bring it in 3 days later to get the repair done. He proceeded to accuse me of playing games and telling me that I was lying about my daughter needing her computer ?!? He also tried to pressure me into leave her mac right away and pick it up in the morning which also didn't work for us and then continued to insult me because I refused. Clearly, his prediction of me not getting the repair done with him was self-fulfilling because I would never do business which such an obnoxious and unprofessional individual. I'm a Professional Electrical Engineer / Executive with over 25 years of experience dealing with hundreds of suppliers large and small, and I have never been treated this poorly by anyone in the technical service industry. Being in need of an alternative, I contacted Apple Expert Calgary who actually have a store, are very polite and courteous, and are able to replace the keyboard for $250 if needed because they actually troubleshoot the machine and confirm the problem before providing a free estimate. I placed a simple call to ask a question and the person on the phone was rude and arrogant, he didn't help at all. I will take my business somewhere else. Edit: literally 1 hour after posting this review, the owner called me on my phone, screaming at me, calling me homophobic slur and other things I spare you from reading. As I told him on the phone before hanging up on him, my review stands and it is reinforced by all his name calling. When my original google review (attached below) was posted it was at 3 stars when seen by Georgio, he used my personal number and started to text me. I had to ask him to stop texting me and to email me instead as I do think it is unprofessional and a breach of privacy. Through text, he argued that it was because I brought in a 13" air and not a pro which is not the case. He then asked for the paperwork from my sister which I obliged him with. At this point, he tells me that it's because what my sister's problem was is unrelated to mine and asked me to remove my review. I know what my sister brought her MBP in for and trust her conversation with Apple. She had the exact symptoms that I had. She had other things replaced for a total of $793 which was all zeroed by Apple despite years after Apple care because of the known issues. I told him that we would agree to disagree and that I wished him no ill will, what's done is already done and that the review wasn't "bad" in nature but urging people to do their research. We didn't have to waste any more time debating the validity. I wished him well and to have a nice flight home from his travels. At that point I get two emails in succession that were so argumentative that it baffles me, especially since he owns the business. He has insinuated that I refuse to face the facts despite the fact that he tries to make excuses every corner. He threatened to post our entire conversation online (which I am not threatened by, go ahead). He still maintains that Apple does not replace screens for free and for me to prove it. He even tried to argue with me how long it took me to get to his house. Then fired back with another email shortly after that, that he was going to forget about it as I should as well. Yes, Georgio, I tried and you needed the last word. When reviewing other reviews on yelp that were filtered, I can see how Georgio, when scorned goes out of his way. I suggest you read those as well. This appalling interaction has led me to one conclusion... always bring your products to Apple for repair. In the event that it becomes a known issue, your chances are far better to get your money back and you will never have to deal with somebody as argumentative and unprofessional as Georgio. My review has changed to 1 star and before his emails, I had a neutral opinion of Georgio from MacMechanic... that is no longer the case. Be wary. ------- Original 3 star review. Had my MacBook Pro screeen replaced here but didn't get a quote for screen replacement until I got to his house 30 minutes away. He "beat" Apple by $2.00 and at that point with the drive, I just gave it to him to fix rather than waste more of my time. It was fixed in a turnaround time of 3 days and it works great BUT... More than a year later, I just found out my sister had the same issue with her MBP with the screen and Apple actually surprised her with a free replacement. It is a known issue to Apple so anybody needing their screen fixed with an older model (late 2011), Apple might do it for free. As I was leaving, he told me that it was better that I was supporting the "little guy" and Apple made enough money already. When the reality is, I'm actually the little guy out a few hundred dollars who might have had it actually replaced for free with Apple. Make sure you do your research. read more

Spent $400 bucks for a TEMPORARY fix. Make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing BEFORE he does anything. Especially the pricing. I was told it would be $300, but by the time it was ready, it was $400. My husband spilt beer on my computer. Snap, crackle, pop! I was just going to get a new computer as my husband looked it up and said for Mac to fix it, it would be almost as expensive as buying a new one. Instead, he did his research and found MacMechanic. The guy there wasn't sure if he could fix it. He said if he couldn't, he would just charge a minimal fee for the time he took to look at it. One week later, I got my computer back. Works perfectly now. It cost about 1/4 the cost the Mac store would charge. My brother-in-law broke the screen of his iPhone, and we told him to check out this guy. Wish he lived closer to us, but with the money you save, it's worth the drive. read more

MacMechanic has been my Mac goto for the last couple years. All issues I've had with any of my Mac products, I bring it to the MacMechanic team. They have fixed my broken iPhone screen for cheaper than all the competitors in the city, upgraded my storage and RAM, helped me recover integral data on a faulty drive, and given me lots of great general Mac tips to help improve my user experience. They offer great customer service and I recommend them to all of my friends and colleagues for anything Mac related from repairs to enhancements to general inquiries. Spent $150 on getting my power fixed. Told me everything was working fine and took my money. Still doesn't turn on without the power cable, and also shuts off when the lid is closed. When confronted about the situation, he told me that he had "a bad vibe about you" and refunded my money. Very shady and unprofessional, and would not recommend his services. read more

Long story short, I needed a MacBook SuperDrive tested. I pulled the drive out of the laptop and drove down to drop it off, as requested in order to be looked at quickly. (In a past life, I was an electronics tech). Two days and no communication later, I phoned and was told that "the weekend was coming up" and they wouldn't have time to look at it until sometime next week and that "it would be best to just come and pick up the drive". The package I dropped off wasn't even opened. It did however get drawn on to test a pen. Now, I promised I would provide a testimonial in one of my e-mails, so I guess here it is. My iMac's hard drive was dying and it was no longer under warranty. I took it to Mac Mechanic and he not only upgraded my OS but put in a 1TB drive (the dying one was only 250GB), cleaned the inside, and transferred my back up drive. Everything was as good as new and only took 3 days to complete. Plus all that for a reasonable price. I'm definitely going back in the off chance my computer has issues. I got in touch with Mac Mechanic after the Apple Store's Genius Bar couldn't solve my logic board issue. After researching the average cost of such a repair, and being quoted an unrealistic amount by another local shop, Georgio offered the most rational price. He was transparent and answered questions about the procedure needed to be done, unlike the other shop. The moment I saw his studio with heaps of Apple products, tools, gadgets, and a retro Apple poster on the wall, I was confident that I chose the right place. I accidentally dropped my Macbook Pro and broke the screen, I took it to Apple and they told me that it was going to take 2 weeks to fix and the cost was far too much for me to pay. I found Mac Mechanic on Google and set up and appointment to take my Mac in. I was quoted half of what apple was charging and it was only going to take 2 days. I went ahead with it and when I got my machine back it was cleaned up and looked brand new. I would recommend Mac Mechanic to anyone looking for help with their Mac. read more

Mac Machanic has been my go-to guy for 3 years and he never disappoints. Very fast turnaround, reasonable prices and wonderful friendly customer service. He gives great advice on how to run your computer most effectively and is always available for a quick fix, chat or email. I would most definitely recommend him to everyone who needs their Mac serviced. He is the only person that I have found in Calgary who is knowledgeable about running a Windows interface on your Mac and doesn't charge a fortune to install upgrades and keep it running smoothly. So an update on my Mac Mechanic experience. Be very cautious when taking any of your products to these guys they are very unprofessional. After seeing the review I left yesterday explaining my experience they called and then sent me texts trying to make me happy so I would remove said review. This way people would not know of my experience. It started out by Georgio letting me know he knew I was upset but I had them "pinned wrong". However they are willing to help me at no charge to "make things better". I responded by letting him know that I was not upset, I was more disappointed and shocked with the experience because it was not what I expected after seeing the good reviews posted on their website. I then asked him to explain what he meant when he said "willing to help no charge". He responded with "we do the work that you need, we shake hands and you're happy", "I am on heavy meds right now and I agree you did not get the best service". I let him know about the work I needed done (replacing hard drive and RAM, with the hard drive replacement the drive contents need to be copied to the new drive before it can be installed so this should be part of the hard drive replacement procedure) he let me know that they would put the the hard drive and RAM in for free but data work they could not do for free. This shocked me as the data transfer is part of replacing the hard drive! I told him replacing the RAM and HD is easy. It is something that I can do, it is the matter of a few screws. I then asked how much he wanted to charge for the data work. He let me know he wanted $150....$150!! I did not respond to this because it was ludicrous. After a period of no response he texted again letting me know "his partner was mad at him but he was going to offer me this now for $100", and to "let them know they want a positive review not a negative one". I responded letting them know that I was going to pass because I found someone who was way better to deal with and treated me with respect from the get go. They were willing to do all the work and other things I wanted done that Mac Mechanic had refused for less of a price. I also let Georgio know that I appreciated him trying to fix things, I wish him the best and hope he gets his problems sorted out. I let him know he should learn from this, not to use meds as an excuse to justify how I was treated and deal with customers better in the future so they have a positive experience unlike I did. I ended it with "Have a good one!", his response.. "yeah. whatever. you too". So as a final note, I am not sure if the whole company is like this but this guy who seems to be a partner/boss at this company is not professional one bit. So they tried to follow up with a customer in this way: offer them free service to make up for it, then pull back and try and charge money, then try and bargain with them, speak unprofessionally the whole time including excusing his behaviour on "heavy meds" and then finish it off with an unprofessional response when he did not get his way. This shows immaturity and irrational behaviour within the company. Read some of the other reviews on these guys on multiple sites, I have. Seems they have a track record of shady business. Make an informed decisions before you book an appointment with them. I would never suggest anyone trust their Mac product with these guys or to put any money in their pockets. read more

Overpriced and try to make it sound like a deal. Told me that if I just needed my hard drive cable replaced it would be "only $120". Apple themselves does this repair for $56, a greater than 100% markup hardly seems fair. My hard drive ended up being dead so he recommended a new one, which he then proposed to sell to me/install for roughly $400. I called around and did some research; the same hard drive could have been purchased for a paltry $170 and a hard drive installation takes about 2 minutes for the mechanically challenged. Very pushy, I ended up settling for having him smooth out the dents and a new bottom cover as well as clean out the inside for $80. That being said, my laptop now looks much better than it did before. The work they do is fine, but I am not a fan of the condescending attitude I was presented with, nor the attempt to charge a small fortune for simple repairs.
