Only reason it's two stars is because of the nice waitress. The food has like no seasoning whatsoever. The white cheddar queso was clearly cut with water, it was soooo thin. Barely any flavor. I got a steak and it was extremely overcooked. They did nothing for me. The meal also said on the menu that is came with a garlic aioli. I did not get a garlic aioli, I got a pesto aioli. I do like pesto but it was no big deal but it didn't necessarily go with the steak. Which also tasted just terrible on its own. Outside was new and clean. Upon entering, it appeared vibrant, fun music, fun atmosphere. I could hear my soon to be waiter grumble about being left a 10% tip. I'd soon find out if the 10% was due to service or just some cheapskate. I ordered the $4 huckleberry lemonade with "free" refills. I'd never get to test out the refill cause I never saw my waiter again after ordering. The drink was syrupy, but I enjoy the sugar fix. French onion soup was fair, I'd order it again, although a bit salty. The pizza was a disappointment, I know everyone likes their pizza different, but I just wasn't impressed. I regret ordering it. Came for dinner while in the area (from a fellow yelp review of course) did not disappoint! I will Admit the summer seasonal menu was so good we didn't even order off the main menu! Before 6pm they had 5.00 craft pours so we both got one. Then by the suggestion of the server we opted for the trout flatbread over the troughs dip. Man was it good. It had some unique tastes I would have never put together (get there before that seasonal menu is gone!)' Then we got the bison tacos (seasonal menu too) two HUGE tacos and blue corn ships and salsa- the salsa was Smokey and delish. We did get the beet salad to share off the regular menu and my only complaint was not enough beets. I guess in my mind I had pictured a lot of with just a few extra ingredients and it was mainly arugula. Thankfully, I love arugula, so it was still OK. The food is always delicious. The atmosphere is colorful and full of great art. I feel like I've done a review of this place a year ago- but now want to address the service. When we walked in the door, the classic "wait to be seated" sign is that the hostess station. A server/hostess walked by, no smile or personality- just a robot. She said, "I'll be right with you." Kept walking. It isn't having to wait that bothers me- it is entering a place and not having a single employee think to say, "Hi. Welcome!" Just an automaton with a blah face. We finally got seated and were given some water. (The beer pic below is from a year ago and popped up automatically). After a long wait we got our food. Kind-you, a GF crust on the pizza means you're going to pay $19.50 for a 10-in pie. Mine was cold...as if it'd been prepared and then sat and waited for hubby's fish to be ready. As the food was delivered, server (same no-smile robot) asked if we needed anything else. I had an empty water glass and asked for water. She nodded, walked away, and never came back. After 10 min, hubby waved her down. She came Over and I asked for water. She took our glasses to the back, rather than having a pitcher to pour from. When she brought them back, we didn't know which was which. Granted, we're married, but I don't like drinking from another person's glass, especially when they've been eating and may have remnants of food particles floating about. The meal + tip = $46. On the way home, I became very ill. The pizza must have had gluten, as I suffered from classic symptoms. Left me feeling that we'd wasted our $$. Won't go back there. read more

My family and I visited this restaurant in early July and had the worst time ever at a McKenzie river. The server messed the order up in that she did not relay to the kitchen how food was supposed to be altered. She also posted that there were ten people instead of nine. Inflating the amount of people so she could add more to the bill for gratuity. We also observed a child alone at an obvious staff table with the utensils playing. The child was a staff members. The server spent more time with her boyfriend than caring about her tables. The staff that delivered the food were inappropriately dressed to be brining food to tables. We had no refills on some drinks and overall very displeased with this situation. I tried contacting the owner and have gotten no response. The food was not prepared correctly at all. read more

Unfortunately, service was really slow and the waitress and manager were short with us when we asked about our order. We were told "the kitchen was backed up." We waited an hour. Service was good- I understand that there is currently a shortage of everything, but even though the server was really nice, he wasn't listening to what we were asking. I placed an order for takeout and unfortunately they got the order wrong. I was on a timeline due to work . I couldn't hang around for an additional 40 minutes for the correction. I'm here in town on a Fire assignment. I spoke to the manager, I won't named drop, but he was about 5'2" he was sorry and that's all he did. I ended up going away without any food and wasn't able to eat dinner this evening due to work . I was in town two years ago and had a similar issue during lunch as far as waiting too long. Unfortunately all the local firefighters come here and I will not be able to join them anymore. I will not return to this establishment. Don't let this discourage you the food is delicious. It has been over a decade since I visited this place. My wife and I were truck drivers and sampled pizza from all over the United States. I now live in Seattle, but still tell people that some of the best pizza I ever had was in Butte, Montana, of all places. I was so excited to check into our hotel in Butte and head out to check out a local brewery. Imagine my surprise when I learned there's a Montana law that breweries cannot be open past 8pm, especially when I looked at my watch and it was 8:02pm! So I looked on Yelp for beer near our hotel, and it was slim pickings. I decided to check out MacKenzie River Pizza since it was the closest place boasting beer. It was a weeknight, so not very busy, and I grabbed a seat at the bar. Their local craft beer selection was impressive! They boasted brews from Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming as well as several regional and national brands. I had a hard time choosing but eventually chose a pint of amber from a Wyoming brewery. Unfortunately, even though the place wasn't very busy, it took a LONG time before someone came to take my order. In fact, it turns out that two of who I thought were patrons shooting the breeze nearby were actually employees who finished their (long) conversation before coming to take my order. The beer was good and cold, and I ordered a small pizza to go to take back to the hotel - it was good but pretty small for the price.
