I've been a fan of this place for years, a faithful customer. I even rooted for this place when there were debates over peruvian rotisseries and I have recommend Machu chix to many people. Their chicken and sauces were the most tastefully in town, bigger in size, and the price was great. A couple of months ago the price of a whole chicken went up by $14!! And the worse part is the quality of the chicken went down hill real quick. Most times the chicken is undercooked and others overcooked. Recently, I have to ask every time to do it right and to make sure the chicken is not too small, but they disappoint one way or another. Not that there are many options for Peruvian food in New England, but the Macchu Picchu couple of restaurants are perhaps the best in New England. Peruvian food itself, to the ignorance of many, is considered one of the most elaborate and worldly cuisines in modern gastronomy, so if you haven't tried it before, you will most probably be amazed at how much richness this food is, with so many different influences. In the case of Charcoal Chicken & Grill, I just have to say that I love this chicken... whatever they season it with, it's just great. Some Peruvian friends of mine tell me this is good Peruvian food, but not the best. For the moment being, I settle with this! read more

Great staff and atmosphere. A bit pricy for lunch (no specials--there are lots of other places in the area to give you a deal) but very quick service--and a unique tasty dining expereince. I liked the appetizers much better than the entrees, the prices are great, and I had some food left over for lunch the next day. I grabbed one of the empanadas as an appetizer and it was quite a fluffy pastry with a decent amount of meat in it, I wished I would've ordered a second empanada, and the two sides that came with the order were tasty as well. We also ordered a sandwich from the appetizer menu which was tasty and the sauces obviously added some more flavor and they were not too spicy so easy to digest. For drinks I would recommend a pitcher which has about 5 cups of purple corn delicacy that you can share with your date or friends. For the entrees, we ordered rotisserie chicken and ribs. For the two sides we could pick between fries, rice, plantains, or salad. The chicken was better than the ribs since it was a much more moist than the latter. Maybe next time we can try other chicken items, but as of right now they do a pretty good job on the non-chicken items on the appetizers. read more

Been here a couple of times and it's delivered on both occasions. Authentic pollo la brasa verified by real Peruvians. Chicken sandwich was good and comes in nicely pressed/toasted bread. Anticuchos (beef heart) was delicious and is totally worth trying. Great selection of Peruvian beverages including alcohol! Service started well but trailed off toward the end and the check took a while. Glad to hear they deliver as the food is sole reason to come here. I loved everything about this restaurant from the moment I walked in. The hostess had a traditional Peruvian outfit on which really improved the ambiance. We were seated right away on a saturday afternoon. We got papa a la huancaina and papa rellena as appetizers and almost decided to lick our plates. We then got lomo saltado and tallarines verdes which is our normal order. We were so happy this was real peruvian food. We were in heaven and were excited to have left overs for later. I literally ate the left overs once I got home 2 hours later, I couldn't help myself. Parking is a little annoying but I can't wait to go back to get my fill of peruvian food. I'm giving this one 3 stars because the chicken that I had was phenomenal- very moist and flavorful. However, the restaurant itself is kind of disappointing. The staff are not very hospitable and it feels the parallel between this restaurant and Peruvian food is more like what Taco Bell is to authentic Mexican food. read more

This restaurant used to be awesome but their costumer service has declined exponentially in the past few months... The young girl who is in charge of the phone and the cash register is completely incompetent and idiotic. She has no clue on how take takeout orders, how their register system works, and how to treat a costumer in general. For example my latest experience with her and the restaurant was that my takeout order was missing an item so she promised me to include it on my next order. When next time/order came around, she played clueless regarding the issue and when I offered to email her my order receipt to remind her, she told me she was busy at this time... Maybe she was busy at that exact point of time... All I know is that 30mins later when I went to pick up my order, the restaurant was pretty empty and I found her loitering by the register with a couple of the waiters... read more

The food is great. The waitstaff is fast and friendly. Very simply decorated with a Peruvian artwork. Some of the dishes are served in traditional Peruvian pottery. Their specialty is the Charcoal Chicken. The chicken is very tasty and tender (even the breast is tender) Would highly recommend both Peruvian beers. I wanted to have the wine but at $30 a bottle I did not think it was worth it. Bottomline, everything about this place is good just like at the flagship restaurant just a few feet away. 4 stars for the chicken and the yucca fries.And the flan. Do not miss these 3 items! 2 stars for the service, and that's for the other Machu Picchu as well. I didn't understand the lack in customer service. It's lunch time on a Saturday, the place fancier restaurant only has 2 tables dining when we come in. It took ten minutes for a server to show up with the water. When we found out the chicken is only available at the smaller venue, we went over there. A few more tables filled, but still, no one could be bothered to come over in a timely manner. They seemed very reluctant to engage with the diners. There is a considerable wait for the food. Good thing the chicken and yucca fries were worth it. DON'T GET THE STEAK, IT WAS TERRIBLE. The person at my table who ordered it realized he should have picked up the first clue that it wouldn't be good - the server didn't ask how he would liked it cooked. After eating lunch here for the first time last weekend, I had a good taste in my mouth all afternoon! The chicken was delicious, the sauces were great, the quinoa was tasty - one of the better restaurant meals I've had. The 3-milk cake was quite good too. Very affordable. Only complaint is that our water glasses weren't refilled until we asked (and the restaurant only had one other table filled, so it wasn't busy). We will definitely be going back. read more

One of the most amazing Peruvian resteraunts I've been to. The food was GREAt, large portions and very tasty. The menu is small there aren't a lot of options but the options that are there are well worth it. We had the Peruvian corn on the cob, wmoanadas, half a chicken with their rice, sweet plantains and best of all a mango smoothie and passion fruit juice! I love passion fruit juice and usually can't drink it from many places but I'd definitely get it again fromm machu. The resteraunt is very average and casual but the food is worth it. Prices are decent and there isn't much of a wait. The only thing is they got very busy and it was difficult to get the attention of my server to pay the bill. I didn't try the desserts because I was way too full but it looked great when I saw it on other customers tables. Parking was easy, we parked down the street in metered parking and were fine. Great spot to go to when you're starving and want a delicious and heavy meal. read more

Big thumbs up for this casual Union Square peruvian chicken joint. Super nice staff and yummy food. The best was the roasted chicken plates for which the place is named. Apparently they roast the little gals for 24 hours and the result is delish. For apps we tried the corn (not your usual American variety - this had large flat round kernels) and salty cheese which was somewhere between great and interesting. Purple corn juice drinks, home made lemonade, good salads, fried yucca, pork tamales (my least favorite) and totally delicious-even-if-you-are-full have the tres-leche cake. A whole chicken, a box of fries and a salad for $16. The chicken is tender and juicy, cooked perfectly. Not as good as my secret family recipe for beer-can chicken, but I can't order that and pick it up 10 minutes later. It's as good as pretty much any roasted/grilled chicken I've had anywhere. The difference is, here you get a whole chicken for $16, most places give you a breast, or a leg-and-thigh. Plus, good fries. They're the kind I like, not too crispy, thick, but not just a potato sliced in half, not over-salted, just very solid tasty fries. The sauces are great too. I love this place. What is pollo a la brasa? It's Peruvian rotisserie chicken and Machu chicken is one of only 4 places in the Boston area to serve it. The best thing is you can get a 1/4 chicken, salad and a side (like fried plantains) for less than $9. It's wonderful. Flavorful and moist. I've ordered 2 of their sandwiches for pick-up, and highly recommend them. Both orders were ready when I got there, and the restaurant didn't require any credit card minimum. I got an awesome surprise when I realized that their sandwiches come with french fries, something the website doesn't advertise, making the $8 an even better deal. In addition, you get a container of spicy green sauce that has a little spice, and was a tasty dipping sauce for the sandwiches in addition to the fries. 1- TRADITIONAL CHICKEN, Slices of our charcoal chicken with lettuce, tomatoes, ají amarillo sauce and house dressing. It's a really good, simple chicken sandwich: Moist chicken and fresh veggies. The ají amarillo sauce makes this a better-then-just-good sandwich. 2- A LO POBRE, Grilled steak with fried egg, fried plantains and lettuce. This is my favorite of the two. Quality steak, and the egg was still a little runny, which was perfect for the sandwich, though you need to keep a few napkins around if you plan on touching anything else while you eat. The fried plantain made the sandwich, adding a little bit of sweet against the steak and egg. The plantain is also a slight draw-back- it was thick and didn't get evenly distributed through the sandwich, so it wasn't in every bite. read more

If you are looking to eat rotisserie chicken with a Latin style, this is the place! The chicken along with fries, salads, and Peruvian sauces are pretty good. I have been going to this place since they opened a few years ago and I cannot complain. Although, today I tried one of their sandwiches and I was a little disappointed as the type of bread they use doesn't compliment well with the ingredients. In fact, it actually takes away the main flavors of the sandwich as it gets soggy and this is why I'm rating this place 4 out 5. read more

One of my favorite places in all Somerville/Cambridge. I live 5 mins away, so I come here relatively frequently. The chicken here is off the hook - I've had chicken platters and sandwiches. The chicken is juicy and flavorful, always perfectly cooked. Great sauces for dipping, too. Friendly staff. It's never too crowded, even though the service is a tiny bit slow at times. Good prices. Our waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. It was my first time trying Peruvian, so I kept it pretty simple with a grilled steak dish and a side of fried plantains.
