Great sandwiches, but the sides are hit or miss and the service is super slow. The chicken sandwich was great - think Popeye's but with mayo - and just as huge. BUT the rest of the order was cold :( The Cajun salt was nice but being charged 75c felt like a rip off. Service was SUPER slow, with our order taking about 25 mins to make. You can't speak to the attendants either, because it's all self service and they wear headphones constantly. There are a few tables inside, so my group felt comfortable eating there. read more

Macho Burger - Crispy chicken sandwiches, popcorn chicken, fries, curly fries, Cajun salt and macho sauce - Burgers Near Me - San Mateo, California

When you want chinese mala style crispy chicken sandwich or popcorn chicken, this could be the place to have it. They even have whole chicken. Thecinterior is simple and looks clean. You order it from touch screen. The crispy chicken is good but the spicy chicken is not spicy for me. I think it needs more kick. The popcorn chicken and curly fries are good. The order was ready pretty quickly. I like to sit by the window. If they can make the spicy crispy chicken more flavorful, it will be solid 4. read more

Terrible service. There were 3 open containers of random spices at the front counter. I asked the cashier what they were in English and he just shrugs and waves his hands at it. I asked again in Chinese and he says "I can't describe it. Just try it." Just absolutely terrible service. Food is only ok and so I don't know where they get the idea they can treat their customer experience so poorly. Won't be surprised if this place is closed sooner from just how poor the store front experience is. read more

Macho Burger - Random spice jars where the cashier wont tell me what they taste like. These are the only spices available in the entire restaurant. - Burgers Near Me - San Mateo, California

Pretty pleasantly surprised with Macho Burger. I had seen it open and was curious about it for the longest time. A fried chicken and chicken burger shop... what was its differentiating factor? And it's called Macho Burger... why? Such a strange choice in name. Then, I found it served the 'Chinese' style fried chicken sandwich that I love from McDonald's and KfCs in China. Crispy, juicy, and made with chicken thigh. Still, I had pretty low expectations, and I would say this place exceeded them. Bun was fresh, meat was juicy, lots of fresh cut lettuce and mayo with a sweet honey butter (this part was unexpected as I don't think the ones in China have this). The only complaint is the spicy sauce or seasoning is a mystery orange sauce injected in the meat. It reminds me of the mystery orange sauce injected Krispy Krunchy Chicken if anyone has had that. The orange color really freaks me out. Pretty sure in China, the spice and seasoning does not come from a mystery orange sauce. Overall, enjoyed it. It's a large burger, and the price reflects it. A little over $10 for one. read more

We returned again and again! The wings are so addicting and perfect for parties and / or Game Day! The crunch of the batter and the taste are pretty good. The popcorn chicken is also very well-priced and customizable! It is tempting to get more than one order. The feast combos are also perfect for parties as it is a lot of food! If you dine in, there are free refills on drinks! The ordering kiosk and the spacious ordering area are also nice. It can be completely contactless. read more

Popcorn chicken. $5.99. Great Value. Very tasty and meaty. We added the spicy cumin powder. That was a great addition. Usually, this kind of powder tastes really salty and MSG-ey. This one is not. We sprinkled our own Carolina Reaper chili powder and now it's perfect. Dont bother with the macho sauce. It's really BBQ sauce but Asian version read more

The spicy burger was quite yummy. The chicken was crispy and the sauce paired well. The orleans chicken wings had flavorful skin. The leg and thigh was slightly dry but the extra spicy whole leg and thigh was juicier. The spicy chicken wings were my favorite as they were tender and well marinated. read more

Macho burger was just okay. I thought the texture of the sandwich was really good but the meat itself didn't have much flavor. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, and it wasn't spicy. It didn't have any seasoning either on it. The fries were really good though. If they given seasoning or had sauce separately, I think it would've been a lot better. read more

We came around 11:15 am and still had empty tables but there isn't that many to accommodate groups bigger than 2. I wanted to try the tender beef wrap the most but probably will be sticking with the fried chicken options from here. More on the spicy side and too wet/sauce in the wrap for me. Chicken cartilage was also just ok since it had a little piece of chicken meat and then the cartilage for the skewer. Star of the show was fried chicken sandwich which was well cooked and crispy. Get it with seasoning - seaweed and the mustard sauce was my favorite! Macho sauce is similar to in n out sauce. Onion rings and curly fries also still crispy but needs either sauce or seasoning. Would come back to try their popcorn chicken and some other items read more

Missing that KFC-style chicken sandwich taste from China? Well, keep looking. This doesn't quite hit the spot and there are other places around the Bay that are closer to that specific taste if that's what you are craving (and if you just want a delicious chicken sandwich in general, there are even more options) Maybe it was because it was during the soft opening but the experience left a lot to be desired; almost didn't write a review and put it off for a while. From the disappointing bun to the mediocre chicken taste, I wasn't impressed. The items we tried beyond the sandwich, like the wraps, were even more disappointing. I got upset stomach after the fact as well, so there's that. Guessing the chicken was undercooked or something was improperly handled. The fries were good though, I guess? Staff was ok and got the job done; no fuss there. Ambience is decent and the restaurant is neat. Overall, I wasn't thoroughly impressed given all the hype behind the chain and their branding, even if we exclude the fact that I got an upset stomach after the meal. The food is just ok and that's coming from someone who looooooves chicken sandwiches. read more

You order through a Kiosk and they'll call your number when the order is ready. I got the popcorn chicken with the Macho BBQ seasoning. The chicken had this airy crunch to it, so it didn't feel heavy at all. The chicken itself was pretty tender and juicy. The Macho BBQ seasoning has a slight kick it. read more

My husband and I saw this place next to our hotel in san Gabriel and regretted not trying it. So excited to see it here at home! We stopped by on a weeknight and it was pretty empty inside. Lots of DoorDash but we were the only ones eating there. We ordered the macho burger and pepper beef burger and both agreed that it was like an in n out burger on steroids. Similar sauce and same fresh veggies but the burger patty was 2-3x thicker, juicier, softer, and had onions mixed in the patty. It was also not oily feeling at all and my bun stayed intact and never got soggy. We were very impressed and ranked it at the top of our burger list. Haven't tried any of their chicken options but we loved the burger. read more

$70 for two chicken sandwich combos and two side chicken dishes is absurd. The food is good but this is ridiculous considering this is basically a fast food place. I understand that this is a tough time economically but that's exactly why this place seems to be empty a lot of the time. Prices are ridiculous and the ambiance is not reflective of $70 for two chicken sandwich combos. This is like a Chinese Krispy Krunchy. read more

Order: * Crispy Chicken Sandwich * Black Pepper Cheeseburger * Curly Fries * Coke Pros: * Manager was friendly and there are a few tables and bar top to sit at * The size of the chicken and the beef patty offered a good portion and should fill up most people * The chicken was moist and had a nice crispy crunch exterior * The black pepper sauce on the burger had good flavor but there wasn't enough of it Cons: * The burger was a bit overcooked and/or dry for my taste, so it needed a lot more sauce. Half the time it tasted like a regular burger. I think if I had extra sauce, I'd be happier because the sauce was decent. * The coke was terribly watered down. Comments: * I'd put this at a 3.5 stars. Slightly better than average, but the burger needs help. read more

Their specialty fried chicken burger was pretty good, but all the other items we got was a bit disappointing. The popcorn chicken felt like a lot more batter than chicken was used, and the chicken wrap wasn't too great - the tortilla was dry and didn't go too well with the chicken. Furthermore, it was pretty pricey to what amounts to some fast food. Would not recommend visiting read more

Just tried this Chinese burger place. I ordered an Orlean Grilled Chicken Sando. It was a little small and basic for what I paid for it. The service was good; I requested for it to be cut in half, and they followed through on that. Some seating indoors and a few outdoors. Order is through a kiosk. read more

They really know their fried chicken here. All the chicken has been juicy and flavorful. Seems like they must brine the chicken, because the actual chicken is tasty, not just the fried outside. We love their fried chicken sandwich. It's a very generous piece of chicken and the breading is so light and crispy. Just delicious. I have also tried their extra spicy fried chicken leg. It definitely has some heat but not overwhelming. Oh and try the fried chicken wings. They're really good. Service is always fast and friendly. Hopefully this place will be around for the long haul. read more

I'm so happy Macho was finally opened in San Mateo. I tried it the first time when I was in LA last year, the food is so good. Reminds me of china KFC / McDonald's. With a name like Macho Burger, I needed to check it out. Decent spicy chicken sandwich. Nicely crispy. Spice not overwhelming. Sauce not drippy. Got a combo with onion rings and a fountain drink. Everything is ordered on screens and system for filling orders seems pretty efficient. Seating arrangements seem to be a bit of a challenge with big arm chairs at little tables for two. Groups kept moving the tables around to accommodate their needs. read more

I was so excited to try this place because I miss KFC and McDonalds in China. I came before the lunch rush and I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, spicy wings, and popcorn chicken. I waited almost 30mins because of the wings...really? The wings were okay, but definitely not worth the wait, and $11.99 for 6 pieces for fast food, eh what a turn down. read more

First time visit and enjoyed my lunch. Got the spicy chicken burger combo ($18 incl tax). The chicken has a really great crunch to it and is juicy. Definitely cooked properly. Sadly I didn't pick up on any spice at all so I wish it was hotter with the seasoning. The burger is a good size though not nearly as big as the ones at Fire Wings. Fries were generous. I had to ask for salt since they were unseasoned. read more

Such a disappointment for food. I ordered the grilled chicken with pineapple, they forgot the the pineapple and none of the food had any seasoning. The ranch was weird it didn't taste like ranch, and the coke was watered down. read more

Ordered: Popcorn chicken, chicken burger, New Orleans style wings, Beijing wrap The crispiness on the fried chickens was very good and I enjoyed it a lot. They give you a lot of popcorn chicken, however, the doneness was questionable and I felt like they may not have been cooked all the way. It was also spicy for me which was not expected as I didn't request any extra spices. The burger that my partner got seemed good too. We came around 6pm Friday and service was extremely slow, people waited for over 40 minutes after ordering and the food seem to come out in batches. The restaurant may still be working on ironing out things after opening. Seems like it's a bit pricey for being more fast food style so I would not go very often. read more

Great chicken sandwiches. I've come here a handful of times and I was never disappointed. Today I came about an hour before closing and I saw they only have one man working all the stations, and he did a fantastic job because my chicken came out juicy and tender. I've worked as a line cook myself and I know how difficult it can be to be the lone cook in the kitchen. Much better chicken sandwiches than other places, because they use dark meat here. Visited with family, ordered a few things, but unfortunately only the fried chicken burger was good. I wouldnt mind coming back for that once in a while, the bread is only the thinner and softer side but not a bad sandwich. Although the fried chicken did have some cartilage; not sure if it was expected or not but it was tough enough where I had to spit it out. Also ordered their drumsticks & thighs and nuggets. Those were not good at all; too oily and just ... didnt taste good. Not sure why it was so much worse than the fried chicken burger. In terms of environment, its nicely decorated, but the air felt oily and stuffy (from all the fried food). I sat outside so it was fine, but I wouldnt eat inside the restaurant if I can help it. Tried this place after a hard ride since I burned the requisite calories to eat this type of food. I'm impressed, I'm not sure what I expected, but what I found was the best chicken sandwich of any chain. Chicken was flavorful and the crunch was incredible. I ordered the spicy sandwich and personally, I'd bump up the spiciness from a 4 to a 5.5. I went around 2:30 and the sandwich and fries were nice and crispy so kudos t the staff. The sandwich combo after tax and tip was around 21 dollars so it is pricey next time, I'd forgo the soda and just get the sandwich and curly fries. I'm not a fast food fan, but this will make it onto my rotation. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Overall 4.5 stars. Hope this place sticks. read more

Wanted a snack to hold me over until lunch so only ordered the popcorn chicken. It was ready very quickly. I like the texture and the quantity but taste was just alright, the spicy flavor was a bit much for me. Sadly i wanted to like them however, when i paid i tipped without getting any service.. that was my bad.. chicken was NOT good, rubbery with no sauce! Ordered the popcorn chicken, taste is good and it was crispy, but unfortunately, it was mostly batter, hardly any chicken.
