In the middle of our appetizer and drinks, however, we were asked to move to a dark small table for two in the corner. I've never seen this happen to anyone before nor has it happened to me. Very good Mexican in Gloucester. Gloucester only does seafood and subs and even that gets gloomy. Coming from a local the food scene here needs help. We felt like Mexican for our anniversary dinner, and we had heard good things about this place! We arrived early on a "taco" Tuesday (5:45pm) We were greeted promptly and we're allowed to pick our seat! We ordered house margaritas that were very tasty! The chips and salsa were great, a nice bite to the salsa. We ordered the queso based on past reviews! It had awesome big chunks of chicken in a cheesy queso sauce! We knew after chowing on the queso we wouldn't need big meals. We ordered avocado fries which were slices of avocado fried in a beer batter! AKA YUM! (We even took an order home for our daughter who loves avocado). The cilantro mayo was yummy and spicy! At this point we were almost full so we each got one taco, I ordered the fish taco and he ordered a pork taco! Everything was delicious and VERY fresh! The best part of our experience was our waitress, "Gracia". She was so pleasant and knowledgeable and was always there when we needed anything. We are looking forward to going back! If you want better tacos go to Taco Bell's. Lots of different tacos but you can't select 2 different tacos. You must get two of the same. The tacos have too much liquidity salsa on them, very messy. The salsa is bland and very thin. I got a Cesar salad and the best way to describe it is to say it's a plate of croutons with some romaine lettuce thrown in. Very disappointing. read more

We called this restaurant when we were looking for a place to eat that did not serve seafood and they said they had immediate seating so we decided to give it a try and we are glad we did. Although they only have indoor seating, the tables are far apart and it feels very safe. The decor is understated and simple. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. They immediately brought over some chips and salsa. The chips were a bit stale but they quickly brought us some new ones.The menu is not as extensive as some Mexican restaurants but the food we ordered - two tacos- one fish- one chicken and a salad with grilled tuna was all delicious and the portions were generous. starting off, we came in at 7:30 which is not late. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated which is reasonable. We sat down and ordered drinks. My friend ordered a drink that she said wasn't strong enough for her so she wanted to order another one but the waiter said they couldn't do that. The waitress kept asking if everything was okay which they always do. apparently the kitchen closes at 9:00 and we did not know because it was karaoke night and we thought it would stay open longer. We were not warned that the kitchen closed early so we could not order desert. and we just got the bill a minute later. a few minutes later we stayed to watch karaoke since that's why we went there and since I was only 20 I couldn't stay past 9:00 pm and watch the karaoke even though the karaoke started at 8:30. so not a place I would go again or recommend to anyone. if they had told me I could not stay past 9:00 pm I wouldn't have stayed and ordered food. read more

Colorful outside stands out from other resteraunts on the block. The service is some of the friendliest I've seen and the owner came out to talk to our table and others directly. The food comes out very quickly and always always delicious. I come here often and always go with the caldo soup when I'm sick. The house queso is a must. Great for family and a cute date spot. What a wonderful surprise - authentic and delicious Mexican food. My husband and I and two young grandchildren had a great experience. The atmosphere was fun, the wait staff was kind and responsive, and the food was fantastic. My husband and I enjoyed two kinds of tacos (one carnitas, one tuna) - with just the right amount of heat. Our grandkids loved their kid meals - the rice and bean accompaniment was a hit (note - the rice and beans are delicious). The food quality was excellent, and the drinks were great too. Don't go! Both the atmosphere and the food were disappointing. I'm a local and I love Mexican, so I wanted to try it out. Lights are too bright, which kills the atmosphere on a Saturday night. Tuna tacos had some sort of soy sauce on the tuna which does not work with Mexican flavors. Corn tortillas claimed to be homemade, but were a far cry from the real thing. Lettuce is chopped iceberg and the rice and beans tasted straight out of a can/bag. I will not go back. read more

We had great expectations when we walked in because the vibe is pretty cool.. Mexican bar Cantina.. one that seems to be lacking on Cape Ann.... They had a few good beers on tap but no exceptional or unusual craft offerings. That's unfortunate because there's a ton of craft tap sales people out there trying to put new pulls in the Gloucester scene and I don't know why restaurants are not doing it... But I digress. it did take about 10 minutes to get a shot of vodka brought to the table which at that point I actually needed a shot of vodka as opposed to wanting a shot of vodka. I'm trying to have something more to say other than the food just sucks. The tortillas are soggy, the spicing is sparse and everything just seems kind of put together by a kitchen crew as opposed to prepared by an actual cook or chef. Salads were unremarkable. I forgot what I ate it was so bad I didn't want to relive it by writing about it. My therapist says I'm making progress... which is rather sad because Mexican food is relatively easy to make right but apparently even easier to make wrong. So there you have it. If you wanted to go watch the game and have a few average to below-average soggy tacos and drink a few beers I bet you could have a good time. But oh no it ain't me babe. read more

This place is a hidden gem. If you're looking for authentic Mexican food, this place is where it's at. They have the best queso I've ever had and their caldo soup (which you can get with or without spice) is amazing. Their list of tacos is extensive and you can get it as a taco, bowl, or burrito bowl; literally so many options. You can also make it a chimichanga too- their chimis are great, they're not oily at all but still offer that bit of crunch every chimi fan looks for. We have heard so much about this restaurant and decided to check it out. My son got the tuna tacos and I got the haddock and shrimp tacos. The food was excellent, the tortilla chips were to die for, served warm. The salsa and guacamole were fresh. The gentleman who was our server was very attentive and generous when we ordered some items from the menu to take home as well.
