We went for lunch based on great reviews. Maybe our expectations were set too high, it wasn't bad by any means but we also aren't rushing back. We sat at the bar -- the bartender was great, friendly and helpful and made good margaritas. I had a mango salad, my husband had arepas - both were okay but we agreed that neither of us would order them again, so ...... After a fun hike on the North Shore, we were hungry and felt like delicious Mexican food. Naturally I searched for a place on Yelp. La Qchara popped up and we didn't hesitate. Parking was super easy in downtown Beverly. We were greeted by a friendly face as soon as we walked in. It wasn't as busy so we got to choose where we sat. The house chips and salsa they brought out was spiced perfectly and the proper thickness. And the chips....yummmmm. My hubby had two pineapple margaritas and he enjoyed them. I was the DD so I only had a little taste. I said "man, too bad this place isn't closer, those are so tasty." For our entrees, we had the shrimp fajitas and mole chicken enchiladas. Both things were spot on. The mole was a little on the sweeter side but I didn't mind. They also brought out more than enough tortillas for the fajitas which is rare. OK...I'm in this neighborhood twice a week and have passed this place over (for no real reason) several times....well, that was a HUGE mistake!!! OMG!!! He was efficient, friendly, professional, and patient (and makes a tasty Margarita!!!) The Quesso Funditio was fantastic!!! Pipping hot bubbly cauldron of cheese came to the table with some warm white corn tortillas. Charred and chewy on the bottom and perfectly creamy on the top, studded with fresh jalapeños and chorizo...Yummy!!! Dining by myself I could only sit and think about my Fundito-loving friends, of which I have several, and when I can take them here... Birria Garnacha was next...Rich Birria Stewed Beef on top of a thick creamy Arepa, with Salvadorian Curtido and fresh Guacamole and napped with the Birria Consommé... soooo freaking good!!! I rarely make reviews, but I felt compelled to do so after my first visit to La Qchara. The staff was very friendly and its a very small but low-key restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the Carne Asada which came with brown rice, black beans and guacamole. It was amazing. The carne asada had that perfect authentic smoky / charred flavor to it and it was very tender. My wife had the fish tacos, which I'd rate a 4 out of 5 because the "fish" taste was a little too subtle, but with the sauce it was still pretty darn tasty. I also had a mango mojito which I honestly wasn't expecting it to have a spicy kick, but that was also really good. Definitely a must if you're in the area and wanna try something new! read more

The only item that we probably wouldn't order again is the Tres Leches French toast. I should say this is in deep fried oil and tastes like fried churros. Condensed milk was served on the side. If you like deep fried French toast with cinnamon, than this might be something you enjoy. Overall, the food was really good. I am long overdue for finally leaving a glowing review for Beverly's absolute gem of a restaurant, LaQchara. For us it has become a go-to stop for authentic, fresh Latin food. My family and I have dined here 6 or 7x this year, and can say that the food is consistently super-fresh and delicious. The prices are extremely reasonable for well-prepared, perfectly seasoned food in a comfortable space. If you like your food spicy or a little more tame, the servers and hosts will help you decide what's just right for your palate. We always enjoy the staff, who are pleasant and helpful. It can be hard to find really good salads locally, not to mention house-made delicious dressings. Taco Tuesdays, arepas, amazing burritos and bowls, all with multiple options including plant-based, gluten-free and vegan options. Also dear to my heart is a place that always serves perfectly ripe avocados! The menu offers a wide range of choices, from small plates and sandwiches to entrees. Everything here is made from scratch, beginning with the salsa and warm chips served when you arrive. And wait - I almost forgot to mention the cocktails! LaQchara serves memorable, potent and well-crafted drinks and mocktails. My personal favorite is the Hot Lips Margarita, made with house chile-infused tequila. Definitely has a kick to it, but for me the spice and heat are perfectly balanced. You will not be served a watered-down beverage made from a mix here! We stumbled upon this place on New Years Day when other places were closed. The food here is amazing. I ordered the carnitas taco trio with sweet plantains and it hit the spot. The specialty holiday drinks were delicious too - with tasty and aesthetic garnishes. The service was attentive and helpful. The only recommendation I'd give to them is for dinner time, to lower the lights if possible and maybe the music a bit to invite more dinner customers. The place is super cute and I could see it having even more success if they're able to do that but otherwise, I'll absolutely be back again. read more

This place definitely has five star food and service, but I really struggle to give that fifth star for a very simple reason: price transparency. Unfortunately this restaurant has chosen to go down the surprise-fee path of boosting prices .... a "kitchen appreciation fee" of 4% added onto your meal at the end without any forewarning. While I understand that this is intended to give the kitchen staff a living wage and rewards for their efforts, I feel that this is a disingenuous practice that adds a hidden price to the food. I'm definitely somebody who usually gives generous tips, but in this case I felt the need to subtract the value of the kitchen appreciation fee from my tip. I would prefer that they just raise the prices by 4% and be transparent about the need to charge more up front, because that's effectively what this does. A "compulsory tip" or any such hidden fee , no matter what you call it is not a tip at all, and leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. It's unfortunate that this place chose to do this because otherwise it's absolutely five stars. read more

Ordered delivery via the Toast app today after hearing they recently opened in Beverly. My friend has been raving about the food at the Melrose location. It did not disappoint! I got the Pabellón criollo, a Venezuelan dish with deliciously seasoned shredded beef, rice, stewed beans, and sweet plantains. It was so fresh and flavorful! My wife got arroz con pollo that came with a bunch of veggies on top. Also very fresh and tasty! We also got the yucca fries that were crispy outside and soft inside with a great dipping sauce. Fried plantains were also ordered as an app and were crispy, well seasoned and came with a very tasty dipping sauce. Overall, this place is a 10/10! It's a standout among the glut of sub-par Mexican joints in Salem, Beverly and the surrounding area slinging the same 'ol stuff. This is a Latin American joint, so they are serving up more than just Mexican food. Can't wait to try it again soon! read more

Es muy delicioso. Came here with my pal B Hip. When we sat down we were greeted by a very friendly waitress who was attentive and affable the entire time. B Hip got a chicken torta (sandwich) and I got a chipotle chicken bowl (not a sandwich). We both enjoyed what we had and had zero complaints. This was actually B Hip's sixth time coming here and he said this was, in his words, "B Hip likes what he tastes and B Hip knows taste." I told B Hip to shut up and to stop talking in the 3rd person. He told me, "B Hip will think about it." During our time at this wonderful little restaurant B Hip and myself talked about an array of topics from the recently departed Toby Keith, to how cancer is a sucky way to go, and even how the words "murder suicide" really rolls off the tongue. B Hip pressured me to get back on the dating scene but I reminded him that it's not so easy when you're in your 40s. B Hip agreed and even double downed in saying that 40 year old men are the creepiest age range of men. Especially single men. We then discussed if whether one of us appears like a creepy 40 year old. We both shrugged and then made sinister but fun jokes about the nearby Montserrat art school students. Now why am I talking about my conversations with B Hip? How does this relate to a super duper recommendable and finger licking good restaurant? Well, do you think we'd be having such well-rounded discussions at a subpar or even mildly delicious restaurant? I don't think so. If there's one thing to know about B Hip it's that, in his words, "B Hip gets it in and gets it out like nobody's business." The ambiance is relaxed, the music was at the perfect volume where you are able to enjoy the music while you dine and have conversations without having to yell. Best of all super reasonable price for the quality and quantity of the food. FYI, there is a 4% fee for the kitchen added to your bill. Margarita tasted like ice with a scant amount of lime juice. No tequila. The shrimp fajitas consisted of 3 shrimp and a small amount of sautéed peppers and onions. The fajita tasted like someone spilled 1/2 salt in it. I could not even eat it. You would think you'd get more for 24.95. The guacamole was brown. I mentioned all of this to the waitress mentioning it was not her fault but I thought the managers should know. I left all my food, except for the 3 shrimp in touched. The bill came and nothing was taken off. The waitress did not even offer if I'd like to order anything else b/c I had not eaten my meal. In my opinion, this was a case of poor management. This was the perfect spot for a pre-concert dinner at The Cabot. We went early on a Sunday evening and got the last table. Service was very attentive at the start, but once we had our food and drinks, the waitstaff never came back. I was going to order another beverage but was never given the chance, and we had to put our hand up to get attention when we wanted the check. Other than the inconsistent service this was a nice meal. I had a very good pineapple mango salad with pork. My husband had a bowl with salmon. My coconut margarita was delicious. Went here last night as a party of 2 to celebrate Beverly restaurant week with no reservation. They were very busy but were able to accommodate us and had us sit at the bar. It appears they had only 3 front house staff and the whole restaurant was filled. I heard rumblings that some people were unhappy that they were a little behind because they had so much to cover. Yet even under these conditions, I have never seen so much effort put in to making sure the restaurant was run properly and people were satisfied. I have seen restaurants be behind before but these 3 guys were doing everything in their power to keep up. The food was also excellent and I felt so bad that these gentleman had to make drinks and waiter the tables all at once. This is a Mom and Pop family restaurant, specializing in Central and South American food. The Cerviche was an Asian fusion with a delightful cilantro sauce. My husband had a chicken burrito and we go try Yucca fries, which were crunchy and wonderfully soft on the inside. I had a vegetales and chicken quinoa bowl (it actually had a different name but I can't find the most current menu on Yelp). It was full of freash vegetables and the quinoa was in a spicy sauce. For drinks, I had a delicious hazy IPA on draft and my husband settled for a Corona. Delicious, healthy food at a reasonable price. read more

I have been excited to try this place since I heard they were coming to Beverly, and excited for more central/South American cuisine options in town. First visit did not disappoint! Started off with the yuca frita and guasacaca sauce - delicious! I got the Pabellón Criollo - excellent flavors all around. My husband got the Pujol bowl - mango was fresh and the sweet plantains were a nice addition. Lots of healthy options and nice I can come back with my kid who has a gluten allergy, as most of the menu appears to be gluten-free. Plenty of vegetarian options as well. Portions weren't too massive which was good since we got an appetizer...I'd probably get another bite or two to share next time. Service and ambiance were good.
