I had a non-functioning 2012 MacBook Pro that had a recurring kernel panic issue at the boot screen and have not been able to use my laptop but a couple years. I researched that this issue may derive from a malfunctioning internal hard drive, so I purchased a new Samsung SSD drive, but had no idea how to install it and I wanted to have the laptop repaired to use as a backup to my new Mac Mini. Upon requesting a service thru the Yelp app, Robb immediately contacted me and after explaining the issue, quoted me a very reasonable price and kindly suggested I could bring in the computer in anytime for repair, zero pressure. This laptop had been useless for over a year after I was able to transfer any old data to a new device and has been restored to brand new condition. Had to bring my phone in twice to get screen replaced. First time the screen had pressure spots and dead pixels. I literally had to show proof because they didn't seem to believe me. The second screen was slightly better but started to act just the first screen only 2 months later. Screens aren't very good quality. Apps burn through. Phone gets hot quick and screen isn't as responsive, will delay touch. Something moved around when i shook the phone. Got phone repaired in July, only lasted about 4 months Also repair time is 3 hours and they never call when it's ready. 2 stars bc it was cheap and my phone was at least not cracked anymore. read more

My husband dropped his iPad on the actual charging cable, causing the tip to break off in the charging port. I took it to the Apple store and the rep told me that it could not be fixed because tweezers could not get into the port and iPads could not be taken apart. But - good news - I could get a new one with prices starting at just around $300. Hard pass! I decided to take the iPad to MacGuyz as I had noticed their business near another one I visit frequently. I was not disappointed! Within minutes, Jake had the tip out of the port. Alas, the iPad would not accept a charge. Jake explained that when the tip gets jammed into the port as ours had been, it sometimes damages the port itself and the port would need to be replaced. I was surprised/not surprised that it was possible to replace the port itself. Jake explained the process of actually taking the iPad apart, replacing the port, and reassembling... funny how the guy at the Apple Store insisted iPads could not be taken apart. After a couple of days, MacGuyz called and said the iPad had been repaired and was accepting a charge. We picked it up a bit later and were delighted to pay a fraction of the cost of replacement. Very impressed with this small business. They really know their stuff! The shop is clean and inviting and the staff is friendly and, obviously, very good at what they do! We consider the rates to be incredibly good. Our Mac (vintage 2013) needs a little update and we will definitely be bringing it to MacGuyz when we are ready for that. Based on the info we received, it will probably end up better than new... again, at a fraction of the cost of replacement. Very grateful to have found this great little tech shop. I went to them having them replace a battery for me on my iPhone and the battery works fine however what they failed to disclose was it my battery will forever have a number one with an error indicating that there's a problem with the battery. I visited the store and I was told that it's not an original Apple battery and it'll always be that way. Took the phone down around 2:30, talked with Rob , and handed it over for a battery replacement. Service was fast! Picked it up at 4 . Yesterday, I took an old iPhone 5s a friend gave me to use, to the MacGuyz in Redlands for a new battery. Originally on the phone they told me it would be 2 hours but when I was in the store they said come back in an hour. Already pleased I did just that. He was just finishing the job when I got there. It appeared the battery was going to hold and do it's job so I paid the amount due and left. Again, happy. I got home and tried to transfer the sim card to the phone only to find it would not accept it. It would not connect to service. I called T-Mobile to be told that all of the major carriers no longer support the iPhone 5. I called Verizon just to check. I was so upset...out all of that money and time....drove 3 total hours to pick it up, paid to have the new battery put in....phone call after phone call to get my situation complete and now the phone won't work! Today, I called the MacGuyz back and asked if they were aware that iPhone 5 and 5s were no longer supported by carriers. They had "no idea" and, before I could say anything else, he asked if I would hold. I said "NO problem". He came back on the phone and said..."Bring the phone back we will reimburse you the entire amount". They were sorry I had to make the extra trip down there. Then, on the way there, I realized I had to be able to turn the phone on in order to turn it in to get the new phone I now needed. I asked if I could get the old battery put back in and, again, without much hesitation he said, "You know, it is not safe to do that and it was not worth the labor". He said "it's OK, you go ahead and just take it with the battery" I WAS FLOORED. This is not the first time I have had work done there and I am so very VERY happy with the customer service at The MacGuyz, it will definitely not be the last. If I could, I would not rate them a star, they don't deserve it whatsoever. These guys are completely crooked. Ron serviced my nine year old MacBook Pro for a fan issue that needed repair/replacement. At the time of dropping off my MBP, they noticed my boot up times to be "dog" slow and that it may be a HD issue. Whatever the case, my only issue was the fan. I called today to find out the status and they told me the job was complete and the fan was replaced. Ron continues to tell me on the phone he downloaded my info onto an external HD so that if I wanted to upgrade my HD to SSD, that the work was halfway done. I was so taken aback by this as I didn't authorize this whatsoever. Ron continues to tell me the HD will be dead in two years and that as a business man he was trying to do the right thing. What he was trying to do was up-sell me to a new HD that I had no intention on replacing. He realized how upset I was and he had the audacity to say that he was concerned I had something to hide. I called bullshit and told Ron the primary use of this computer was for my 12 year old to do distance learning. I showed up at the store and immediately Ron apologizes and said he shouldn't have done that without my authorization. I explained to him this is problematic because I have no proof of my data being erased from the external HD he used, and his response was a smirk and shoulder shrug. I said you are basically ransoming my information for the $249 HD upgrade for which you had no right to do. Again, no response from Ron. Another associate with a beard refrained from chiming in and when asked his opinion he said, "you don't want to hear what I have to say." I asked him to enlighten me and he had a poor analogy of me handing my keys over to him to work on my car. That analogy doesn't even make sense. I made the mistake of giving these guys my login b/c now they had access to all my iCloud info, and Google drive. When I addressed Ron's comment about "something to hide" I said I sure do, "I have financial docs from my recent home purchase, bank statements, escrow paperwork with all my vital info." Again no formal apology. I will be filing a complaint to the Better Business Bureau to make sure this doesn't happen again. Buyer beware. read more

Got my iPhone screen repaired back in late January. It went well, repair took less than an hour. Starting in June the screen started to "peel" off. Now light bleeds through the sides and is specially visible at night. ****EDIT 09/13/16**** Took the phone to another repair place in Riverside thinking it was the battery. Guy I took it too told me it was just a cheap screen, battery was fine. He charged me $10 to fix it back in. I came here to get my Mac computer evaluated because I had a little water damage. The guy put in my info in the computer and had me sign that it will be $135 to look at it. Upon asking him how much it will cost to get it fixed, he said he doesn't know. It could be $500 or it's not worth fixing and you need a new computer. I proceeded to ask him if I still need to pay the $135 if I can't get it fixed. He said "Well, yeah...I need to get paid for my work to open this computer up."
