Eating vegan in the Oregon Northern coast, first food stop.... Mac'd & more in Astoria, OR. This was our first vegan meal of our Oregon Northern coast trip and whoa, was it ever a doozy!!! My wife read about Mac'd & more on HappyCow so we decided to give them a try. They only have one vegan option, a cashew based mac'n'cheese ... and this one item is soooo worth the trip! The dish was very hearty, will easily feed two, very creamy texture with a cheesy/nutty flavor. In addition to the great flavor already baked in (pun fully intended lol), they have many additional toppings you can add at $.75 per topping or $5 for unlimited toppings, such as broccoli, sun dried tomato, mushrooms and .. lots more to choose from.

Great pizza, friendly staff, wonderful owner, just a great place to pop in for lunch if your in Astoria!

Great pizza, kind and accommodating owner. My son doesn't eat melted cheese and they made us a pizza with some slices that had no cheese and cut them perfectly so there was zero cheese on them. A great experience!

I wasn't planning to get a huge container of pasta today but here we are. You can create your own bowl which is what I did and they have A LOT of different options you can add to your pasta. It look about 15 minutes to get the food because we were one of the first customers and they had to warm up the oven. They have some inside seating but we decided to sit outside for a while because it was a nice day. The staff also brought my dog a bowl of water which he was highly satisfied with.

The photo cannot do any justice to how great this pizza was! Perfect crust, seasoned just right, but the CHEESE PULL was out of this world and cannot be matched for the price! Thank you for a lovely meal, in a clean establishment with superb service! Mac n cheese was light and splendid and was so good it didn't make the photo op oops!

The place was clean, and everybody was friendly. Half of the place is the bar, half of the place is the restaurant. They even have a small gift shop in the corner of the restaurant. When you first walk in, you check in with the bartender, and then you just find a seat in the restaurant. I was served quickly. I decided to go for a cup of the smoked clam chowder, and the rockfish fish and chips. You have several different choices of what kind of fish you want for your fish and chips. They also have a good choice of other items on the menu Once I put in my order, the food comes quickly. The clam chowder was amazing. The smokiness of the clams Comes over into the soup. It was a smoky flavor, but it did not overwhelm the soup. It complimented it very well. There was a very generous portion of the clams and other ingredients. Dear Lord, I couldn't believe the size of that platter of fish and chips. Two giant pieces of rockfish, a very generous portion of fries, and a coleslaw. You also get ketchup for your fries, and a very delicious tartar sauce. I liked the coleslaw. It was not overdressed, and had just a little bit of a peppery bite. The pepper did not overwhelm the coleslaw. The fish was not overly battered, and not greasy at all. The fish was flaky and rich. The fries had just a littlle bit of a crisp on the outside, and were perfectly tender on the inside. The entire meal was amazing. It was so big, I brought one of the pieces of rockfish and about half of my fries back to my motel for breakfast the next morning. It heated up perfectly in the microwave and was just as good the following morning. For all I got, the price was extremely reasonable, and they also do a military/veterans discount. I will remember this place. Thank you!

I walked in about 10 minutes before closing and offered to take my food to go, but my server told me that while the kitchen was closing, I was still welcome to eat in the dining room since the bar would remain open. I didn't catch her name, but she was "awesome possum"--cute, short, energetic, and full of the kind of fun, friendly banter you would expect from Flo at a classic diner. She made the whole experience even better. I ordered the FishMonger fish and chips platter, which came with two pieces of tuna, plus cod, rockfish, and salmon. It was an incredible amount of food for only $24! The batter was perfectly crunchy and flavorful, the fish tasted fresh, and the portions were very generous. I barely managed to finish it, but I persevered--mostly by sacrificing the fries! The only slightly confusing part was finding the restaurant. Some of the reviews made it sound like a standalone location, but FishMongers is actually located inside the South Jetty dining room and bar. Once I found it, though, I loved the atmosphere. It had a great, relaxed vibe, excellent food, and outstanding service. I will definitely be back!

No! This place was…read morereally disappointing. Came here based on reviews, but I. would caution anyone to steer clear of this place. It started with flat champagne drinks. That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria. It reminded me of two Italian spots in Seattle's Pioneer Square. Very popular since most of the onsite seating were occupied (6/20/25). No surprise after glancing at their menu, easily I could gravitate towards several of their sandwiches. Lots of merch and deli items are also available to select from. I ended up ordering a half pound of proscuitto (0.52 lb for $17.67). This was carefully sliced thin, packaged, and wrapped carefully, which was duly noted and greatly appreciated. We paused at window counter seats and had to sample the purchase before departing. Absolutely delicious! Helped elevate a meal the next day too. I may have to return to indulge in one of their Italian sandwiches. Update: we did return to dine onsite at the same window counter seats (6/22/25). The Homie had the Hot Meatball ($14). Meaty with zesty sauce. I had the Salami Panini ($12), which reminded me of a fave Italian panini at Irwin's Bakery & Cafe in Seattle. Both were fantastic, hit the spot, clean plate club worthy, and definitely no takeout boxes needed! Gaetano's Market & Deli, a terrific find in Astoria!

Ambience - small tavern with seaside vibe with both indoor bar and table seating as well as some limited outdoor table seating. As a party of one, I elected to sit indoors at the end of the bar. As it's located on HWY30 at Portway, I imagine sitting outside could be a little noisy at times. Service - prompt and very friendly. Seemed like the sole bartender was the sole waitress as well...but she was very attentive nonetheless equally dividing her attention to a full house of customers! There appeared to be 1-2 short order cooks in the back...so small crew to handle the lunch crowd. Food - clam chowder, fish and chips, and a cider...a reoccurring meal of mine when traveling through the PNW and kinda how I like to judge one place from another. Thick NE-style clam chowder loaded with clams! Solid contender and some of the better chowder I've had as of late. The F&Cs were 3, 2-3oz sized halibut pieces fried golden brown with a huge side of string fries...also very crispy! With some lemon and malt vinegar on the fish and a refreshing cider on tap, it all went down quite well...yum! Price was reasonable, although maybe a little pricy given this was the industrial side of the riverwalk. Nonetheless, the food/drink, service, and ambience were all good! Felt his was more of a local hangout for those working at the marina as compared to, say... Astoria Brewing... a definite touristy alternative that's larger, busier, and smack dab on the riverwalk. Both are solid places offering different vibes. Definitely will be back here as well! Cheers!
