I visited during a very quiet time for the shop -- a Wednesday afternoon. The owner was there, and she greeted me casually and asked if I'd been in before. I shared that I hadn't, and then I asked some questions about the flavors. I was intrigued by the pumpkin macaron, so I ordered one. That was all I needed to satisfy my curiosity and my sugar craving. ;) And, truth be told, at $2.25 a pop I didn't want to shell out for more than one of these tiny treats. We chatted as I pulled out my debit card, and she pleasantly said "This one's on the house." Here's what I loved: -Um, they gave me a free macaron! -The owner was friendly and casual. -Crisp & clean decor (very minimalistic) but somehow still inviting. I like that you can see all the way to the back of the space. -Plenty of flavors available to choose from during my mid-week visit. -The texture was perfect: Crisp & chewy yet slightly fluffy almond cookie and actual pumpkin filling. Here's what I'd like to see: -More beverage options available. There were waters and fancy sweetened beverages. I'd like to see a warm coffee or tea option if possible to help offset the sweetness. But, then again, there's a Starbucks across the street. -Seeing the pastry chefs in action would be cool! -I'm a sucker for local ingredients. If they use them, they should shout it from the rooftops (or, maybe just list them near the flavors). Way to go Macaron Bar. Located on mass ave which is great because I stumbled in here because of the long waits at restaurants so it's great if you are starving. I love places like this! I have a big sweet tooth, but if you haven't had a macaron before, I really can't recommend this place enough! Be sure to sign up for their loyalty program so you can get a free macaron right then and there. There are so many flavors. Your best bet is to get a 6 pack or bigger so you can get a variety. They have a few drinks you can buy in bottles, but it's really just all about the macaron. There are a couple tables and chairs you can sit in to devour your goodies if you want, but the majority of the customers come in and take their purchases with them. The employee walked me through their rewards club details (just picked up my free birthday macaron) and was great at helping to select some tasty treats for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. I ordered 12 macarons online for in store pick up. The online ordering process was quick and easy. I wanted to order pistachio flavored macarons, but it was not a flavor option. I added a note to my order requesting pistachio if possible and otherwise a different flavor combo. Not only did I get pistachio, but also 2 other flavors. I was also given a few extras which were quickly devoured because THESE ARE THE BEST MACARONS I HAVE EVER EATEN. Perfect texture and the flavor was delicious. I had been waiting for the grand opening of Macaron Bar, so when I started seeing reviews pop up, I made a trip downtown to check them out. I grabbed some street parking (metered) along Vermont and walked over to Mass Ave. I figure if a business makes good enough macarons (and nothing else!) to stay in business, they must be good. If the business is good enough to franchise (out of Cincy), they must be really good! And they are! The shop has a few seats in the window that are great for people watching. Then there are the display counters with a colorful array of macarons, all kinds of flavors. Beyond that, there are spotlessly clean tables and ovens for the baking classes they offer. And the macarons are delicious! I was first introduced to macarons (do not confuse these with macaroons which have chewy coconut) at Gallery Pastry in Broad Ripple and I thought these just as good. The macarons here are tasty and with the egg white based cookies, melt in your mouth down to the tasty filling. They have a variety of regular flavors and add in some seasonal options as well. Looking for quality macarons that are reasonably priced? Then look no further than Macaron Bar on Mass. Ave! With a wide variety of great flavors they will have something for everyone. You can either order ahead online for pickup, delivery, or order in person and have had good experiences with both ordering ahead online and picking up in person. I would recommend getting a 12 pack so you can try multiple flavors and see which ones are your favorite (it also comes in a cool box w/ a card that shows which flavors you have based on color). Some of my wife and I's favorite ones are Birthday Cake, Lemon Lavender, Red Velvet, & Mimosa. They also offer classes so you can learn how to make them, which would make for a good date idea. The store is very clean and I love the high ceilings & natural light that comes in. I highly recommend visiting Macaron Bar and will be returning soon. read more

My granddaughter and I received lessons at the Macaron Bar as a Christmas gift, and it was a wonderful experience! It's a 3 hour class, but the time flew by. Nathan is a wonderful teacher, and you actually get to make your own macarons, rather then just watching someone else. This includes all the steps, mixing and piping the shells, mixing the filling, filling the macarons, and then boxing them up to take home. I would highly recommend this class. My most recent order was delivery because I cannot shake a macaron craving when it hits! Macaron Bar has a good variety of flavors while still keeping the staples in stock & hosting a rotating seasonal macaron. Rose, pistachio and earl gray are absolute must tries. Each macaron is the perfectly balance of flavorful & subtle as to not detract from the delicacy of the cookies. A couple of the six in my last order were on their last acceptable day and turning a bit stale, but they were still enjoyable. I had some time to kill last night before the Yelp Elite event at the nearby Cyrus Place, so I decided to head down Mass Avenue to check out Silver in the City and Global Gifts. I wasn't in the mood for dinner, but being that I'm getting older I figured "Hey, why not start with dessert anyway?" I spied Macaron Bar, which despite its local feel is actually not a local biz but the Indy location of a 4-location mini-chain that I believe started in Cincinnati and now includes spots in Indy, Pittsburgh, and Louisville. First off - let's clarify that these are not macaroons. They're macarons. Yes, there's a difference. Macarons are a meringue-based cookie with almond flour, egg whites, and granulated and powdered sugar that is then filled with buttercream, ganache, or fruit curd. They have a crunchy exterior, a light and fluffy interior, and have a kind of nougat-like ending that allows it to linger a bit. Macaron Bar offers about 14 regular flavors along with seasonal flavors. The prices are reasonable, though the price per macaron decreases the more you purchase. As I recall, one was priced at $2.25 - a nice little treat if you're having a sweet tooth but don't really want to go bonkers. This location is located in an older spot on Mass Avenue right next to Flying Cupcake and not too far from Sub-Zero. Basically, this is a block of indulgence with Starbucks also right across the street. The storefront is rather smallish - the decor is clean and simple with 2-3 small tables near the front window and a small selection of drinks, though to be honest I didn't check out this option fully. The front door is your typical Mass Avenue front door - a bit heavy, but basically manageable. As you enter, the ordering counter is directly in front of you and the macarons available are on full display. I liked that you don't get a weird look if you only order one. I was greeted by the friendly face of Hope, who also explained about Macaron Bar's reward club that lets you add up points for purchases and earn rewards. She mentioned signing up for it on my next visit, which seemed a little odd, but maybe that was because I gave off this vibe of not being a regular Mass Ave customer. Regardless, she was super friendly. I ordered one macaron - a red velvet. It was given to me in a small bag, yet it was nicely protected and I had no trouble taking it with me to my next stop where I promptly ate it while shopping. It was delish. I wasn't quite sure if I'd fully appreciate it, but I gave serious thought to stopping back in to get another. I will certainly do so next time I am in the area. As has been noted, and really shouldn't be surprising, the Macaron Bar features macarons and nothing else. However, that model works fine for Flying Cupcake - so, hopefully Indy will embrace it as I found the product high quality, the employee super friendly, the interior comfortable, and I look forward to returning. read more

I was excited to check this place out since I had visited their Louisville location and loved the interior. Think Apple - clean, seek, and crisp white lines with an emphasis on the products: the macaroons. This location is a bit different visually but the same idea. They offer macaroons, single or a variety of sizes. You'll get a better deal the more you buy, but they're still pricy. I went with the coffee flavor this time. I should have listened to the employees's suggestion saying it was her least favorite. It was also my lease favorite flavor I've had from there. It was a bit on the bland side and didn't offer a strong coffee flavor that I was looking for. I'll def be back as I want to take one of their macaron classes. Here's to hoping they'll partner with Tinker Coffee and get that coffee macaron flavor a nice, local boost. ;) read more

I was so happy to stumble upon this place. I bake my own macarons so I really need to love the macarons to give a good rating. These were soft and chewy just like they should be. I received a dozen macarons as a gift, and was so excited to finally try. I tried salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, and pistachio. First of all - these macarons are HUGE. My favorite flavors were pistachio and vanilla. The chocolate was almost too chocolaty (something I rarely say), and the salted caramel was too salty for my liking. I wished that there was more filling in the center. It didn't seem proportional to the size of the cookie. I found out this had just opened and had to stop by. I walked in and it smelled brand new. The employee was very nice. He asked me how I had heard about the Macaron Bar and if I had ever had one. I was debating between the Madagascar vanilla or the coffee. I chose the coffee even though I'm a vanilla lover. Anyway, I tried the pistachio and it was soft and had a lot of flavor. They have a lot of room behind the counter for macaron classes! The employee said you will make four varieties of macarons! You will go home with about 2 dozen macarons and a recipe. Wanted to write a new review as I recently attended Macaron Bar's "Intro to Macarons" class with a friend during COVID-19 times. I purchased this class for me and a friend a while back and it was postponed/cancelled twice so when the opportunity finally came that a class would be held, we were super excited. I was very impressed with the precautions and steps that Macaron Bar took to ensure that our class would be safe. The space is already small so they are limited classes to 4-6 people. We were provided masks if we did not have one and there were ample dispensers of hand sanitizers in the whole place. We also were instructed to wash our hands between period of the class, especially if we stepped outside or touched our phones, etc. Equipment was wiped down and disinfected if we had to share, such as the stand mixer, bowls, and food processor. Aside from the safety precautions, the class was very informational and I enjoyed that we were able to watch the instructor first before attempting to follow along hands-on. We went home with 2 dozen of cookies each and overall the class was so much fun. I highly recommend the class to those curious about how these cookies are made or just a fun bonding time with friends! read more

Yes, I visited the non local macaron bar!!! I wanted just to try it :) They have a nice selection but for being that is all they serve, I was expecting even more. We got a dozen and tried several flavors. Earl grey was definitely my favorite!!! Hubby liked the dark chocolate. The fillings on these is thicker than we like as the overall macaron was more dense. The lavender and lemon didn't work at all. There was an odd taste to them. So we will stay loyal to our fave Gallery... local shop for our macarons in the future. read more
