    Sixteen year anniversary!
    Catherine F.

His Goatness and I celebrated our sixteenth wedding anniversary this last NYE; as a special surprise, he signed us up for a cooking class with Chef Amy at A Cut Above. It was a thoughtful gift -- and possibly the best NYE I've had since our wedding. Chef Amy was lively, fun, energetic, and inspiring. While I've loved to cook for many years, I did learn some new techniques (and trivia -- did you know that garlic heads always have 23 cloves?). I've incorporated them into my every day kitchen practices, now. So! With a bunch of other fun people (looking at you, Bryce and Meg -- you almost made me snort my drink several times), we made delicious French onion soup, sautéed mushroom-stuffed crêpes, possibly the best risotto I've ever tasted, a delicate filet, and a buttery lobster tail (served with broccolini that we didn't make). It was fun, sharing the cooking with His Goatness... and the food, from the hors d'oeuvres to the special dessert (a creamy, delicate parfait), to the special cocktails, was terrific. I want to do this again. Truly. I haven't laughed so much in ages, and it was a really special night out.

An exceptional experience with A Cut Above Catering! The bride and groom wanted a unique and bold flavors for their wedding day. A Cut Above Team provided a five start meal and service for 200 guests. The couple and our team could not say enough great things about them. See photos of meal attached. Thank you!

I was recently in Carmel as a guest presenter for a wedding and events industry event where A Cut Above provided the food. Having a culinary background, I tend to be very fussy about food and rarely eat before speaking. The event had a Tea Party theme, and as it was the group's first in-person event in 18 months, they wanted to keep things low touch. A Cut Above created unique tea-time-themed bento boxes. Each box contained a small Mixed Green Salad, a Scone with Raspberry Jam, a Macaron, and two Tea Sandwiches. The Salad was fresh, and the dressing in a pipette was delicious. The Macaron was perfectly crisp and tender, and the Cucumber Tea Sandwich was light and flavorful. The two standouts were the Coronation Chicken Tea Sandwich and the Lavender Scone. I LOVE Coronation Chicken, and this was as good as any I've had. Lavender is a flavor that can easily go wrong, and this was perfect. It was subtle with just a hint of Lavender in a tender, well-made Scone. The Tea selections they offered were beautiful and well presented. Their staff was friendly and professional, the food was excellent, and everything was beautifully presented. I enjoyed everything so much I asked for an extra box to take back to my hotel room!

So thankful for this place! They specialize in functional medicine and are a team of PAs, MDs, and…read morenurse practitioners that help you get to the root cause of any of your health concerns. Because they aren't in the insurance system, they are able to spend an hour with each patient and can order any tests needed to help you find the root cause to any of your health concerns for lasting, healthy solutions. I found out about this place through my friend who has had many health problems throughout her life. She was on many medications and none of them were working. Her friends recommended coming here and they ran several blood tests, then found that she was deficient in a few key nutrients. She started taking supplementing for that deficiency and it made her medications started absorbing better. She then got off a ton of the extra medications she didn't need and lost twenty pounds in a few months. It was amazing to see as her friend and made me realize that we should all probably get our basic nutrient and mineral levels checked first before we ever get on any medications. I really got the vibe that they support a healthy lifestyle in every way. They offer healthy cooking classes for adults, kids, and families, as well as yoga classes, sauna sessions, and classes on how to manage stress, address hormones, etc. Also - they don't push supplements here and don't care if you buy theirs or not. I went to see NP Emily and she told me that I was low in zinc and probably wouldn't be able to hit ideal levels with just food, so did recommend a zinc supplement (which is surprisingly affordable). She didn't care if I got the one they sell or went to get my own. She said that she doesn't usually recommend many supplements, as most health concerns can be fixed with a natural, whole-foods diet, daily sunshine, working out, and addressing stress. I love that she starts with that approach before taking any other measures. She was so helpful and smart, and offered simple, clear answers to all of my questions. You can become a member here and go to their monthly classes (cooking, yoga, etc) and use their spaces (infrared sauna, etc) in addition to your health appointments, or pay a one-time fee for each appointment. They're on a long wait list at the moment, but you can fill out the form on their website to join the list and they'll reach out. They have a new building in Carmel and it's super nice. One side is the functional medicine and the other side offers esthetics and has the classrooms. Cool idea to combine it all under one roof!

Absolutely amazing experience !…read more My 10 year attended a baking class at the sprouts cooking school. This was her first time ever doing such a thing. She loved it. The class allowed the students to be independent "chefs" and work mostly independently under supervision. My daughter felt a since of accomplishment and developed more confidence in the kitchen after class. The best part (for me) was the food. Oh my gosh~ the food was AMAZING. They made a chocolate chip cookie cake with icing and a mini fruit pizza. Chocolate chip is not my favorite, however I had several bites. The cookie could not had been any more perfect. It was moist, soft and just delicious. At the end, the kids took the recipes home. The class started and ended on time. It was a great experience.

This class was for ages 3-13 and the kids learned to bake three recipes. The best part was that parents could drop off their children and head out for 2 hours of errands or a nice brunch! I was impressed right away by how bright and clean yet playful the space is. There is a wall along the back with 4 microwaves and 4 ovens which is perfect for some of the larger camp classes or the older kid's cooking classes. There is plenty of counter space with their large islands that hold a sink at one end and a convection stove top at the other. This class had little tables and chairs set up for the preschoolers while the older girls sat on stools around the island. Perhaps my favorite part of the kids cooking class was watching the teachers interact with the kids. They did a great job keeping the kids listening, learning, being safe and having fun all while baking! I know that can be a feat with just a couple kids at home! The way they interacted with the girls gave them confidence in continuing to bake at home.

I was really worried because at the time, my second-oldest was about to turn 4. So ... to say the least, I had visions of him tearing through the store, breaking everything in his path. Boy, was I wrong. These kids--all the kids, in fact--were absolutely enthralled and taken by the pottery painting. They all sat up at the tables together, with the adults, and painted bowls to donate to a good cause. It was a great time and a wonderful learning experience. But not only that, the kids made the most beautiful bowls! Even better than the adults. Know why? We adults TRIED TOO HARD. Kids are kids and make the most creative pieces every time. I love to see how the bowls look after they're painted--usually a mess. But it's the most fantastic transformation to see how your bowl (or other ceramic of your choice, including figurines, plates, plaques, mugs, etc.) turns out after it has been fired in the kiln. When we picked up all the Kiwanis club members' bowls, we were blown away. The color is so deep and fantastic on every single one. Head to Creative Escape next time you need a good gift for a loved one. We've gone back several times (And my husband has snuck all three boys out to make me the best Mother's Day gifts EVER ... handmade masterpieces) and plan to make plates for the grandmas until they have an entire set of homemade dishes. What a wonderful gift! NOTE: You don't need a reservation. Walk right in! (Reservations are suggested for large groups.) Thursday night is Ladies Night from 6-9 p.m.

They were unfriendly, unenthusiastic, impatient, and generally disinterested. Neither employee engaged with a single child. They couldn't even bothered to smile, let alone say "thank you." I volunteered to pay for two pieces they said had been painted by other group members who ostensibly left without paying. (Neither employee recognized my generosity in doing so--which in part saved them some headache. These were very small pieces. Given that it was their error in not properly collecting payment from each partygoer, they ought to have just written it off.) We later discovered that one of the pieces had not, in fact been painted. Rather than apologize for their error, the employee made a snide remark about it being the customer's fault. I'm still not convinced that the other piece was unpaid for--rather I think they probably made a clerical error given their lack of organization. The employee who supervised the party also complained about the noise. Perhaps she expected first graders to paint in silence. The manager never left her perch on the stool behind the desk. It must not have occurred to her that her associate might need assistance. Our group was in the establishment for exactly an hour on a Sunday when it appeared there were only two other customers. These two young women need to realize that, without paying customers, their employer can't afford to pay them, and that repeat customers are their best source of revenue. So they should exhibit a modicum of hustle for the brief time that they actually have to do some work during an otherwise, quiet, un-busy day. As an aside, they do not even have so much as a paper cup on hand for a drink of tap water. If your child is thirsty you'll be invited to drive across the street to CVS. I'd like to point out that the 5-star reviews mention how much fun pottery painting is, and the variety of available projects, but make no mention of employees being friendly or helpful. Pottery By You at 86th/Township Line and Half Baked Pottery in Broad Ripple are far more deserving of your business. Their owners are on-site and their employees are fantastic!
