We did the sushi cooking class for a date night. Although the class was entertaining it was a bit pricey ($$$) for a few spring rolls, 1 sushi roll each, cup of soup each, and a box cake in a rice cooker. However, we enjoyed learning so much about the culture. It's also nice that during the class you get to take photos of the brands and where to find them! The class is a lot of standing....about 2-3 hours worth so just keep that in mind. You do get breaks to sit and enjoy your food though. We will for sure be making spring rolls again after this class. They were delicious!

What a fun class! I was a lucky winner from a Yelp Elite event that allowed me to take the Intro to Sushi Making class. Unfortunately my husband wouldn't join me so I went alone. I was a little skeptical as I don't like doing things by myself but Mori was warm and welcoming from the moment I walked in and a group of younger adults joined and they were all very nice. The class itself was very informative! I had previously made sushi at home and while it was tasty, it was nothing compared to the sushi made in this class! And I learned that I had been making things harder on myself! The class also includes a new way to cook a cake and boy, it is tasty! Soup is also prepared during the class--I wasn't a fan but others seemed to enjoy it! It just wasn't a flavor I personally enjoy. You will also learn to make spring rolls during the class and they are very good! I would definitely check this place out! I'm looking forward to putting my new skills to use !

My finished yakisoba. It was delicious.

A couple of weeks ago an event popped up on Facebook to go to an open house for Katsumi's Teaching Kitchen's new location in Beech Grove. I thought I would go take the half hour tour and see what it was all about. I had read about the kitchen in I believe Indianapolis monthly. During the free tour Mori gave us a chopstick lesson and explain the differences between Chinese and their traditions, Korea and their traditions, and the Japanese, I can say that I am not very good at managing the chopsticks yet. During the free tour she also fed us cake that has a matcha green tea icing and gave us a new apron. I was impressed with her attitude and how well she answered everyone's questions. I decided to schedule a class for the following week. I scheduled myself into the Japanese street food class. In the Japanese street food class I learned to make yakisoba, okonomiyaki, and takoyaki. The class was a lot of fun. Each step of the way Mori shows you what to do and helps you if you need help with anything. Also we had the cake again at the end! The people that were in the class with me were all nice and looking to learn something new. I will say I got a bit warm in the kitchen with all of the skillets working and everybody in there. Mori provided everything we needed to prepare ingredients and also an apron to keep our clothes clean as we worked. Everything we made was very flavorful and she explained all of the ingredients and let us take pictures of them as she went along. I am confident that I can make these dishes at home and isn't that what it is all about? I liked the class so much that I have already scheduled my next class. I am learning how to make potstickers the third week in April. Come and give it a try and I think you will be glad that you did.

To anyone thinking of booking; Take this class!! We took the street food course and we learned so much more than just street food recipes. We even made a delicious cake and miso soup! During our time, she taught us a lot about Japanese culture. We learned chopstick do's and dont's too! I was so impressed with her extensive knowledge, and she was so funny at the same time. I will definitely be coming back for another course! Thank you, Mori!

My husband and I love Japanese food so I was looking for a Sushi making class for Valentine's Day. And I'm so glad I found Mori and Katsumi's Teaching Kitchen online because it truly was a wonderful experience. Mori is absolutely hilarious and had us laughing the entire evening. She also shared with us her wealth of knowledge and we learned so much about Japanese cuisine and culture. The food we learned to make was delicious - the type of rice and method of preparation really makes a difference in the taste and texture of sushi. We especially liked learning how to make spring rolls with peanut sauce - it was surprisingly easy! This weekend we plan to visit the Japanese mart in Castleton to buy items to make our own sushi at home. Thank you Mori for the guidance and an exciting evening of Japanese cooking!

Mori was so much fun! Aside from cooking, she taught us some cool historical Japanese facts, dining manners, etc. The rice cooker cake was my favorite!

The snow storm almost cancelled the class, but Mori still held it for just my dad and me, which was very sweet! She explained everything thoroughly, usually with a funny story, which had us relaxed and laughing. The food we made was all delicious and we got to make a ton of it!

We had a great time taking the Japanese Street Food class. It was fun, informative, and tasty. Quaint, friendly, and welcoming environment. We are looking forward to taking the Ramen and potsticker class next. I highly recommend taking a class.

My son (14 year old) was gifted a sushi cooking class to Katsumi's. My wife randomly found it online, and what a GREAT FIND!!! Mori was extremely knowledgeable about her trade. She was extremely detailed with origins of the Japanese culture and cooking styles. They made spring rolls, sushi, miso soup, and white cake (from a rice cooker)!!! My favorite part of the class was my son was told where to go to get good sushi products and even recommended us take pictures of the products she used to make it easier for us to find them. We learned quickly the pictures were invaluable since nearly nothing in the Asian Grocery was in English. Eli just made his first sushi rolls today!!! He has some more work to master his craft, but the sheer excitement he displayed was PRICELESS!!!! Highly recommend visiting Mori at Kataumi's for any class that interests you, you WILL NOT be disappointed.

My husband and I just took Mori's potsticker class and it was amazing. Mori was so nice and welcoming and taught us so much about her culture. She explained things thoroughly and told us where to get any ingredients we would need to make each dish. We made more potstickers than I can count, fried rice and cake. We tasted our food along the way and got to take everything home with us as well. I am confident I will be able to duplicate the meals that we learned today and "wow" many of our friends and families. I will never be able to eat potstickers the same having made them from scratch. I highly recommend taking one of Mori's classes. I plan to go back for her sushi class soon!

We had a wonderful Valentine's date taking the Intro to Sushi class. We learned how to make sushi with Wasabi and yum yum sauce, spring rolls with peanut sauce, miso soup, and matcha rice cooker cake in our 3 hour long lesson. The food was fresh and everything was organized smoothly to keep us moving from one dish to the next. Everything was so delicious, and we even got copies of the recipes to try again at home. Mori did an excellent job at explaining exactly what ingredients and tools she was using so that we could copy them exactly when we got home and share her amazing cooking skills with our loved ones. Our favorite part, though, were her stories of cooking with her mother and the many do's and don'ts of becoming a "sushi snob." We definitely got a great value for our money--dinner and entertainment for several hours is hard to beat for that price! We will be back again.

The teacher, Mori is very knowledgeable about Asian culture and Asian food. You will be learning more than how to make food, you get to learn the history behind the food. It's awesome!! Food is delicious too! Very fresh. Definitely would recommend!

California Roll that we made with guidance from the instructor.

My wife and I took a sushi class here and it was excellent. Not only did we learn how to make delicious and authentic Japanese food, we learned about the ingredients, the culture and had a very nice experience overall. We would recommend this for couples or families.

Each week, they offer a different virtual class where they teach you how to cook a different type of meal, all from the comfort of your own home. There are themes like Super Bowl Snacks and Galentine's Day, but then there are classes that focus on one type of food or region of the world, like the class where they teach you how to make a dessert trifle, or sushi night. I signed up for pizza night, and we made a pizza from scratch, including the crust and pizza sauce. Let me tell you: The class was worth it just to find out that I now know how to make the best-tasting pizza sauce ever. We also made a caprese salad and fig and goat cheese flatbread. How it works is that they send you a grocery list a few days before the class. They also recommend a local beverage pairing with the meal, which for my class was an IPA from Black Circle Brewery. So, then you go out and buy all the ingredients and the beverage. For the pizza class, we had to prepare the dough the night before, and they sent an email with the recipe. They also sent the other recipes the night before, so you know what to expect for the class the following night. I love learning new kitchen skills, trying new food combinations and discovering new local bev, so this type of class was right up my alley. I got to try making flatbread (which somehow I had never thought to make before!), as well as discover a great local Indy beer. I had made pizza from scratch many times, but I discovered a new technique for stretching the dough. I feel like my homemade pizza game has been elevated because of this class. Indy Urban Foodies is a woman-owned business, and the women who run it are super kind and talented. They post a lot of cooking tips and recipes to their Instagram account, so you should definitely follow it if you're looking to learn something new.

No bride need to be calling their caterer asking about their whereabouts in the middle of pictures! Fourth, we ran out of food and about 15 people didn't get to eat. I told her 125 people a few weeks before. I ended up with 122 on the final list and at least 4 people didn't come. So, around 118 was actually there. When I called her, she said she prepared for 150 people. Are these 150 toddlers?! My entire wedding party was on their phones looking up random restaurants closest to the venue. They came through by having to go down to Kroger, spend hundreds more dollars, and came back with sandwiches and snacks. I cannot be more embarrassed or stressed out!
