After being frustrated with loading the latest Apple operating system on an older MacBook Pro, I called every presumed computer/technology store and consulting shop in the greater Anaheim area. Of at least six calls, I felt a level of comfort because I wasn't rushed or embarrassed by my limited knowledge. I decided to go to Mac Star and see for myself. Easy access. Plenty of parking. The team was receptive, smart as heck, and willing to meet my timeline. The cost was very fair and, in fact, less than Best Buy (the Geek Squad in-store) and those others I spoke with on the phone. The work was excellent! The work was guaranteed, and I have been thrilled with the outcome. The Mac Star group did not pressure me or try to oversell services. One more big thing! Recently, my computer, banking, and phone was attacked with viruses and I was a victim of identity theft. Originally try to go to my local Apple Store only to be told to come back 4 days later. I then went back to my Anaheim Mac Star location and was told to immediately bring it to Naz in La Habra. I had my computer backed up and cleared all done for $100 and even faster than the four days. UPDATE: It is not based on your bank accounts. Two of the finance companies DID NOT ask for my bank account. When I was not approved the finance companies sent me letters stating that this is based on your credit score and history. Also I would now doubly beware because THE OWNER just put my business for the world to see. I never shared if I was approved or not. He also lied as well. Another reason to BEWARE! Please see pic below, PROOF okay, so it is a lie that they don't check credit. They use 3 third parties to give finance plans. ALL of the finance options are based on your credit report. They DO ASK FOR YOUR SS NUMBER! You will have to pay off the items in three months. They have a 12-month option but the interest rates are ridiculous. If you want to buy PC components from this place then don't. I was going to finance but instead I was just going to pay cash. I went to them asking if they can get certain parts for a PC build I'm doing and they said they could get them from their "supplier". I told them to let me know the prices and get back to me. I compared their prices to other known PC stores like Newegg and Microcenter. I even went on Amazon to check. I couldn't believe the inflated prices. If you look up the words "rip-off" in the dictionary I'm pretty sure you'll see the Mac Star Logo on there. Average price of Newegg, Microcenter, and Amazon was around $3000-$3100 after taxes. Macstar total price was $3700!!!!! Now tell me, who in their right mind with a hint of common sense would go through and do a purchase like that. I took the numbers back to my company and we literally laughed so loud that we had to look at the numbers 3x to make sure it wasn't a joke. Covid is over. Prices shoud not be over retail. Even if you get approved for financing there s no way. Look folks, before you go here make sure you do your research on the product you want and make sure the pricing is on par with what Mac Star is selling. If you view their name backwards it spells out RATSCAM. Coincidence? Or just a sign to keep away? You be the judge. I'm pretty sure the owner and employees are going to come up with some clever reply to dissuade this review but don't believe in the manipulation. Just good old fashioned used car salesmen selling electronic products for more then what is on the market. For reference I've include the parts and comparisons below in an Excel spreadsheet. Normally I would rate a place like MacStar with 5 stars, and I was ready to do just that because several associates had already sung their praises, and they've always steered me right in the past. It's true, you walk in and you immediately know that they are professional and highly skilled. Talk to them and that hunch is confirmed in short order. The reason I can only give them three stars right now however has nothing to do with their skills or quality of service. It has to do with the fact that, as a COVID survivor who very nearly DIED three months ago, it was immediately obvious that the sincere COVID blurb at the top of their page is 100 percent baloney. NOBODY IN THE SHOP WAS WEARING ANY FACE COVERING WHATSOEVER, and the ten minutes I spent in that tiny shop was nothing short of terrifying, because when I wear a mask and the other people do not, transmission rates are close to 70% as opposed to about 2 percent if everyone is wearing a mask. In fact, I was putting my mask ON when one of them said, "Oh don't worry, you're fine" (fine as in: don't worry about masks) And as I left, I asked one of them if they simply didn't believe COVID was real. Answer: Nope, they don't believe it's real. Unlike some people, I am not sitting here thinking, "Good, I hope you all catch it and wind up in ICU to teach you a lesson." I try not to be a jerk...sometimes I wind up being one anyway, like when I am a little bit terrified for my health and safety. But I tried to keep the screaming in my mind (Are you people INSANE?) from issuing out of my piehole and I just left as quickly as I could instead. Maybe someday when this pandemic winds down and we have antivirals and vaccines, I will once again be able to give them some business. I truly believe my friend's assertion that this is one of the best computer shops in town. But apparently they are geniuses about computers.... biology and medicine, not so much.
