I love a Mac store, but this one was especially good. When I looked at a lip liner or lipstick sample color to swatch, everything was very clean and sharp. The staff was obviously very attentive to this sort of thing, which you don't always find. I was looking for very specific items and the staff helped me locate those immediately. I got my face makeup and eyebrows done by the most wonderful artist I've ever worked with and can't seem to find her again as she does not work for MAC anymore. Her name was Cirina and it was about a year ago at this location. No one has ever been so extremely knowledgeable as she was with makeup or so talented. I looked in the mirror and was more than impressed. Anytime I have a special event I think back to how she did my face/brows. I'll be going back to this location to get more products soon. read more

Stopped by the MAC store on my way to work because I somehow walked out my door without mascara or falsies on - something I wear daily. I was kindly approached by Selena and she offered her assistance immediately. She showed me the selection of lashes and made some suggestions and I eventually picked out a pair. Knowing that I needed them before work, she offered to apply them on me - totally next level of customer service. The lashes were applied perfectly and stayed on all day! I highly recommend stopping by this location over a department store counter. Alisha is also very friendly and I enjoy her a lot. read more

I went here with the intention of purchasing a Teddy brown eye-liner and a black eye-liner. They lady who was helping me was nice, friendly, and helpful; I had no issues with her at all. However, when it was time to check-out and pay for my purchase, I stood there, waiting...and waiting. There was only one lady doing check-out transactions. I assume that she was a manager or lead because other employees would go to her, asking questions. Whoever she was, she never acknowledged me or the fact that I was standing there, for like, ever. The store was not busy (it was midday, mid-week), and there was only one person in front of me; the person checking out. As I stood there, waiting, I happened to recall that I'd recently learned that MAC tests on animals. I proceeded to walk out without making a purchase. How are there no reviews for the MAC store yet?! I have had my makeup done at 3 different locations: here (twice), Nordstroms & at PV mall. This by far is my fav location. Most recently, I had my makeup done for our 1st wedding anniversary. My appt was at 5pm & the talented Chanel was my artist. She asked what I was wearing that night for dinner & if I'd like to incorporate those colors into my look. I told her I wanted purple to be the main hue & that I wanted to focus on my eyes with dramatic lashes & go with just a light gloss on my lips. I swear every artist, & even some customers, who saw me while she was working her magic said it looked amazing! I am not a big makeup girl so I was a lil shocked at 1st but after a couple minutes, & getting used to all the makeup, I LOVED how it turned out! For a makeup application you have to buy $50 worth of product. I'm lucky if I spend that much, it's usual around $100 for me. I bought the lashes, lipgloss, blush, a set of 5 brushes & she even threw in blot powder for me for FREE because mine broke. Such an awesome chic! To top it off, I was wanting someone to do my hair, nothing over-the-top like an updo, just a lil backcombing & add my flower clip for me. Well Chanel called Regis & got me in right after my appt with her. What AMAZING customer service! Re: Free Lipstick Day I stopped by Scottsdale Fashion Square yesterday and upon entering, I spotted a very very long snaking line looking like it's to meet a celebrity for a meet-and-greet and autographs and photo ops. I asked the mall security what the line was for and she replied, "mac" (with a "can-you-believe-it" expression). I initially thought maybe she meant a rap star or a reality-TV star named Mac who I would've never heard of anyway. I quickly realized she meant a M.A.C. Cosmetics store giving away a free tube of lipstick during their Free Lipstick Day. I was familiar with the promotion a prior day via 2 news stations who posted on Facebook about it (I guess to also show that it's a legit promotion). I wasn't really interested because I figured they were probably trying to get rid of the ugly shades of color or desperately trying to clearance out their unpopular line. Something to that effect. When I checked that there is MAC store at this mall, I figured that when I stop by at the mall, I'll look inside the store and see. Well, the nice gal at the MAC makeup counter inside Nordstrom told me that they had shades of blue, purple, yellow [from the Rocker line?], or that you could mix the 2 colors to make a new color. I asked her whether they even had a pretty shade of red or pink, she smiled and said "no" (as to show that only the ugly ones). She also unsurprisingly said her counter ran out of the tubes. However, strolling over to the MAC retail store nearby, I had no idea that the promotion would attract 100s of people to stand in line for hours. A check on Facebook showed that MAC has over 18 million 'Likes' so it's not really such a surprise then. I opted to stay out because I knew that they wouldn't have 100s of tubes to give out- and besides, I hate the free shades ;) However, the promo ad on MAC's website did state that only participating stores and in limited supplies... To the disappointed, disgruntled, and angry customers who stood in line for a long time and got an announcement that they ran out of lipsticks and suspected scam, fraud, or employees pocketing for themselves and their families/friends, or even witnessed people bringing in their families/friends to score more to give to them and/or to sell online to make a profit: there are numerous lipsticks in all shades for under a dollar elsewhere, right? Cheer up- it's only lipstick :) To those lucky enough to score a tube, congrats and hope you like the, umm, signature painted-on shade(s). Common business sense to keep in mind: no business gives away their best products for free and any freebie (of any type) is to lure you into their establishments and hope you make a purchase- with or without that freebie. You also take a sad risk when you stand in line ;) Sorry you had to learn the lesson the hard way- I am sure your loyalty is appreciated. Maybe some MAC will make up to you as a thank-you for your time. My thanks to the gal at the Nordstrom counter and the young guy at the retail store (and also the young gal at the Macy's store at Biltmore Fashion Park) for patiently answering my questions. I hate this MAC store. For once, I live in a city that has a true MAC store and...it sucks!! I've been here a few times, each time knowing EXACTLY what I need. Of course I cannot pick it up myself, I need an employee.....but gosh, I'm always stuck walking around just waiting and waiting for someone to recognize that I'm a human in their store who needs help (isn't that their job??). Once they do, they look at me like I'm crap and why am I in there? MAC themselves are innovators on the different and accepting for everything, yet everyone in this store judges me for not being a thin bougy rich person. What's best is being judged by the "different" ones who work here. Very odd practice! Overall, if you're at all "different" don't expect good service from anyone in this store. Oh yes, and if they don't want to help you, it could also be because they're too busy doing/looking at their own makeup in their vanities. read more

Went in here because I am a fan of their products, usually their customer service isn't so great because they get so busy, but this story was nice and mellow and I was helped right away. I was in dire need of a fresh look, so I decided to drop by MAC after work on a Saturday evening. Of course it was incredibly crowded, but they still managed to get someone to help me. The makeup artist was very attentive and made me feel comfortable despite it being so busy. She took the time to show me how to use every product, how to apply every product (making sure I applied it myself) and was very encouraging. Granted, I'm sure she wanted to make a good sale, but it did feel genuine! I think what really made it for me was that she wasn't afraid to make mistakes... and correct them. When trying to match my foundation color, she chose one a bit too light. She immediately noticed the error and found a better shade, rather than forcing it to fit and blend it in. This really stood out to me. She also paid attention to my wants. She originally chose a very bubble gum pink lipstick, and while I could tell she loved it, she could tell I did not. We discussed what exactly I wanted and were able to decide on a more nude pink. I walked out of here having spent over $300 and do not regret one penny. I now have a very fresh, personalized set of makeup and brushes that I have used regularly since! read more

I'm not a huge fan of MAC products overall; I only shop there for the occasional lipstick. However, I felt obligated to write a review because of their excellent service. I came in the other day to purchase a lipstick I had looked up online. One of the associates came over and recommended that I try it on just to make sure. I agreed. Thank god, because it looked TERRIBLE. The associate asked me what I didn't like about it. I told her, and she said "I think I have what you're looking for." Two seconds later, she came over with another lipstick. I tried that one on, and it was perfect. I'm so impressed that she had such a great knowledge of her products! MAC is my go-to place for makeup. Their product is superb and there are literally infinite ways to use the line. The makeup artists are required to go to school for a year or so before they can work there; they know the qualities of their inventory inside and out. The individuals working here are always very colorful and creative with their own makeup. Sometimes it's tricky to get assistance, but if you're persistent you'll receive service relatively quickly. Beware, these stores can be packed! I've had my makeup done by MAC artists at other locations, and the results are usually stunning. Of course, not all makeup artists' visions align with one's own, so be sure to speak up about what you have in mind! Any artist prizes their tools because they can make or break a look.I use MAC brushes exclusively; the quality is absolutely exceptional and they last for YEARS. Ask a MAC artist to help you select the essential brushes--they make all the difference in the world when it comes to applying makeup. It's an investment that you won't regret. Trust me. Buy the brush cleaner as well. There's nothing worse than getting a nasty eye infection due to a germ-infested eyeliner brush. I'm also a loyal customer because of Back 2 Mac--their recycling program--bring in 6 empty containers to a MAC store (not a department store counter) and you'll receive an eyeshadow, lipstick or lip gloss of your choice. read more

I love the brushes and many of the eyeshadows. The makeup dries too hard and emphasizes facial lines but the other products very nice. I just wish they could do the makeover quickers so you dont have to sit there and get a sales pitch. I like to pop in, get some ideas for new eyeshadow combo's and get out to another store, I dont want to pitch a tent and camp out in there for an hour. I'm a huge Mac fan. In fact, I'd call myself a Mac snob, meaning I only use Mac products if I can help it. Today I swung by to get a refill on my eyeliner since it is one of the things my face is lost without. This was my first time as this location. It was nice and small but had all the necessary tables, fully stocked and ready to roll. There was a line when I walked in and I kept reminding myself to stay focused, to only get what I came for. This is usually easier said than done but a very nice girl came out from behind the counter and asked what I needed. I told her and she went and grabbed it for me, easy as that. No pressure to add on anything or get more brushes, she simply rang me up for what I asked for. I know that sounds like a simple thing but usually all these Mac girls have to do is say is Are you sssuuurreeee you don't need a new eye shadow? And before I know it I'm spending 50$ so I'm so thankful for and easy in, easy out trip today. read more

Oddly I found myself at Scottsdale mall today in need of some new makeup. I went to Sephora and wasn't even greeted, and it took almost ten minutes of browsing before I was asked if I needed help. Needless to say I bought nothing. So I walked towards MAC, leery from my last experience there, and what do you know? It was pretty much empty, and once I walked in I got a compliment on my hair, and then my eyebrows from a separate employee within the first two minutes. (Sales tactics probably but hey I'll take em'!) So I had a nice young guy help me find a few lipsticks to try, and he added a bit of eyeshadow to complete the look and I was nervous about trying a new Rihanna lipstick the swatch was a nude gray brown and he said it might work on me. Well I put it on to make him happy, and was shocked at how much I LOVED the color on me! So that gets a few stars for him putting me out of my comfort zone and helping me find something new I would have NEVER chose for myself. We played around for at least half an hour and I ended up getting two shades of lipstick and a mascara. I feel better about this location, especially with the guy that was helping me feel so welcome. Last Saturday, I got the $50.00 product purchase makeup for an event I had that evening, and the 21-year-old who did my makeup did a very average job. She kept telling me she was a perfectionist, but the quality in her work did not show. I've had other great experiences with two other artists at this store, so this was my first bad experience. If you call MAC and ask for the make up with the $50.00 product purchase, request an artist that you know will do a good job. Me and my mom were ignored and when I finally flagged someone down she gave me an ugly look and send one moment. 10 minutes later we are still waiting for one product to grab she walks around the store ask another customer how they were doing. She then went and rang someone out! She tried walking past us ignoring us until we said how absurd it was. She then tried talking down to us like she was above us since we were just buying brow gel! This is a really small MAC store and it got really super crowded with a bunch of teenagers who have no idea what the hell they're doing there other than to play with makeup. Aside from the annoying children who wander off into the store, it's relatively an easy place to get stuff since I was at the mall doing a return for another shop. I'm a Pro member so when I asked them for something specific that they don't have out on the floor, they went into the back and got it for me. But as a store that can cater to Pro members, it's a really limited one. I'd rather go to a big stand alone store when I need some stuff that's not for the masses. As for customer service... yeah, I can see why a lot of people could be upset or very intimidated because there's a bunch of people swarming all over the place and making huge purchases which makes it extremely difficult to reach someone for help. Keep in mind that these people are not customer service types, they're not there to really sell. I mean yes, the ultimate goal is to sell products but they're creative types. Creative people are not driven for customer service. They sell a product, which is MAC cosmetics, and that sells itself. It's pretty much take it or leave it... it's not about service, it's about product. This is from someone who's had to deal with impossible bridezillas for years so I know how demanding "customers" get. read more

Brian is a highly skilled, creative and amazing, makeup artist at the MAC counter!!! The first time he helped me, he was able to recommend the perfect mineral powder foundation for me and quickly gave me a fantastic look. Needless to say, I purchased it and love using it. His expertise, fun personality, and passion for what he does has made me a faithful returning customer to the store instead of ordering online, and I continually recommend him and MAC to others. Angie at the Macy's MAC Scottsdale location is a superb employee. I always try to remember who I speak to when I am traveling regardless if it's the hotel employees or a store employee. Angie provided options, listened to my concerns and opinion and responded. I mean she REALLY listened. Sometimes you get employees who pretend they heard you and are busy pushing whatever they need to hit whatever quota for the day; with Angie it definitely didn't feel like that. I'm giving this MAC store three stars because i had one good experience and one bad. Unfortunately the bad, leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. And any company should know that people are going to write in complaints when they have a bad experience. I took my mother in there today to buy lipstick for her and we wanted to try the different reds. One young lady working there was wondering around, looking at us, but didn't greet us, or come over to us. I had to summon her over. Then she waited for us to speak. Didn't offer suggestions, didn't try to up-sell us-which is weird. It was like she was totally bored of her job and just wanted us to leave. She handed my mother the lipstick, and didn't explain the procedure. We questioned if she was supposed to just use it with out an applicator. She said, "oh we just wipe them off." Oh ok, well how are we supposed to know that. We then asked her if she could wipe it off in front of us. I felt bad for my mom. Other times I've been there and have had a lovely experience, almost like a girls night in. I mean the experience should be fun. Women love to feel good about them selves. My mother said she'd rather shop at SACS where they bend over backwards, and are so sweet. It makes the experience so much better and you want to go back. I hope a manager at the Biltmore Mac sees this and makes adjustments. read more

I've always been a MAC guy and I love the products. However, I'm not very happy with the management, and also the dress code at this location. I find it very provocative, and I was very uncomfortable shopping there surrounded by girls with short shorts and showing so much cleavage. It made the store look like a whore house. They have everything unorganized, the staff is rude, and it's actually very uncomfortable to shop there sometimes. I went to go get lashes the other day, and I am myself employed by ELC so I get a 23% discount. Me and my co worker went to get some lashes after our shift, and the manager in store had to ring us up. My co worker was in line in front of me, and she wasn't asked for a pay stub. I took a pay stub that wasn't recent (probably two weeks), and she made it a big deal that it wasn't the newest one. I was very upset that I was asked for a pay stub, but she didn't ask my co worker. She said " I will do it this time" I was very close to not even get them anymore, but I felt like the customer service is horrible and I am not buying from this location anymore. I used it for years and then got annoyed or overwhelmed by the whole make up counter process and started ordering make up online... I came here with a friend a few days ago and a women named Michelle helped us and she was so nice and so helpful and gave us tons of great tips for our skin and our make up she was hilarious and I didn't feel over sold or under informed at all. To add to my disappointment the customer-service was mediocre at best and the store wasn't very clean. To these ladies credit I can only imagine the day they had with the promotion going on. 3/25/13 Customer service was OK, but staff dressed in shorts and tees just didn't sit well with me. (Lower-end ice cream shops and car wash fundraisers, maybe. Cosmetic shops, no.) I rarely walk out purchasing anything, since it always seems so busy in here, but I did buy a long-wearing lipstick ($22 with tax, I believe). I don't like matte finishes, but if ultra long-wearing is what I desire, then I must take the good with the bad. It made my lips feel sticky each time I smacked them together, but it never came off when I'd accidentally brush a finger across a lip. More importantly, my lips never felt dry (the product contained pomegranate, which the young woman told me was supposed to nourish the lips), although to me, matte finishes ALWAYS make lips LOOK dry. The product looked great the first day I wore it to work, but I haven't liked how it looked on me (too dark, and hard to apply- it doesn't glide very smoothly) after that first day. Will try to use it again soon. read more

Made the mistake of thinking this would be cool like every other MAC store I've ever been in. Disorganized situation, cashier neglects to call me over while I'm clearly waiting in line. Then helps someone ahead of me. When I call it out a rude "make up artist" tries to give me attitude. Woman named Mollie tries to justify Amanda's attitude and the cashier's unwillingness to serve me. Will be calling on Monday to speak with a manager. Maybe I'm not welcomed because I'm not a woman or white. Either way it'll be addressed on Monday. Because of the marketing I've always assumed MAC was gay friendly. Maybe I was wrong or maybe this store didn't get the memo. Expected better. read more

I'm also very surprised there are so few reviews for this MAC location. And, like the first reviewer, had Chanel as my artist when I went in for a bridal makeup consultation. (Although I believe there are two Chanels that work at this location. "My" Chanel was tall, with short dark hair and the nicest looking eyebrows I've ever seen). The appt was booked the week of, and we took the last spot they had left on the day (a Saturday), noon. I later found out that it was the day of the Gaga concert, so not only was it utter mayhem in the store, they might not be so limited on slots with a week's notice. And yes, it requires a minimum of $50 purchase to get the consult. This is achieved VERY quickly, might I add, especially when the artist extols the importance of having the right brushes to do the job (I spent almost $200 on four eye shadows, liner, one brush, foundation, foundation primer and eye make up primer: eeeeeeep!). The verdict: Chanel rocked it. I went in not really knowing what I wanted (I'm a terrible bride, I wish I was one of those women who knows EXACLTY what their wedding dress, hair, look, flowers, etc will be like, it seems so much easier). But Chanel was patient and asked several questions to help me get to a look that would 1. Not melt away at an outdoor wedding in late April 2. Go with my overall look 3. Make me feel comfortable to actually wear; she didn't try to push me outside of my comfort zone 4. Be feasible for me to re-create; she didn't try to push me out of my skill zone either She also gave tips on how to handle inevitable wedding day tears (hopefully of joy) in a way that won't ruin all your hard work and photos. She wasn't pushy with her creative input and she wasn't pushy with products. She was straight up about what I could get away with out buying, and when I was on the fence about a purchase, she recommended I go home and try it out and if I thought I needed it I could always come back. There was some annoyance at first as they mixed my appt up with another one, and after being told to wait and watching others come in for their appt after me and still not being seated and started, had to track down someone to figure it out. I had to explain who I was to about three people before it was finally sorted out but they were genuinely apologetic about it and though were clearly overwhelmed with customers and appts didn't get sassy about my issue. I would also like to note that I never felt like an unwelcome visitor in the land of the make up elite. My artist was patient, even walking through the steps with me several times and making sure I understood before letting me out of there. She even offered to have me call her (at the store) while practicing or day of if I needed reminding of a technique or which color went where. Now that's five star service. read more

I am typically very pleased with this Mac store. I went in on my birthday around 4pm on a Sunday because I just got off work and it was my birthday. Figured I would get my makeup freshened up because I was going out to dinner. The next morning I woke up with pink eye. Coincidence? I don't know? After the fact I talked to my girlfriend about the incident as she used to work there. She let me know that there are times woman that work there do not disinfect their brushed as they should. This put me out for a week with no makeup, doctor bill, medicine and inconvenience. I wish people would be a bit more considerate and responsible. read more
