I called to make an appointment via phone call. Employee helped me to make an appointment in their online system. I had a foundation match with Nico. She was very kind at explaining what she was doing and made a perfect color match foundation to my skin color. As she was putting on makeup, she explained what it means for my face & how to put it on appropriately. Also with essentials, she helped me to pick out a blush. At the end of it, I purchased a primer, foundation, concealer, blush, lip gloss, and lip liner. These are all the essentials that I ended up needing. Customer service was excellent. read more

Worst customer service ever. I bought several items on the 3/30. On 5/3, I attempted to return 3 items, 1 of which was damaged. I was told they couldn't do it as I was past the 30 days. I asked if I could store credit and was denied. I then asked if they would replace the damaged item and I was told no as it was past 30 days. I asked for the manager and the girl helping me said she was the manager on duty. I was surprised that they refused to assist me. When I asked for the store manager's name m, they gave it to me but went on to say she wouldn't help me either. I explained I have been a manager in many different retail places and there is always something that could be done. She insisted since I haven't work at MAC I don't know what I'm talking about. She is a very talented and great to work with, her personality is bubbly and outgoing (find that hard to come by with cosmetic professionals nowadays) she helped me pick out tones to blend and really make my features pop! When I went into the store to redeem My MAC Lover birthday I was told, by both associates Stephanie & Daisy, that I needed to show the email I received from MAC as proof of my birthday. I had deleted the email weeks ago, as I have never needed it in the past. I asked them to look up my profile, as they have ALWAYS done in the past. They did but, still insisted on seeing the email. I also offered to show them my driver's license as proof of birthday and identity. They insisted that I needed to show the email and that they couldn't help me unless I showed them the email. While I searched for my deleted email the associate by the name of Stephanie, told me she didn't appreciate the tone that I had and that her co-worker was calling the manager. A tone of frustration was all I had and I explained that I didn't mean to come of as anything but frustrated. Once I finally found the e-mail I showed it to both ladies and they both tried to take my phone so that they could "see it better". I asked them not to touch my phone and then I was rudely asked to read it. When I got home tonight I called 2 different MAC stores and asked them "When I come into redeem my birthday gift do I need to show the email that MAC sent me or can I just give my email address", as I have done for many years in the past. Both stores said "Just give us your email and we will look you up". I also connected, over the phone, with MAC global support and they also assured me that showing your email to redeem your birthday gift is not their policy. Exactly as I thought. To quote the always fabulous Dolly Parton, "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap". That's certainly how I felt when I was here a few months ago having my makeup done for a wedding I was attending. I called in advance to book a spot and was simply told they had me down. As soon as I arrived all the ladies were busy, so I waited for about ten minutes until the artist they paired me with was free. Right away she knew the look I was going for. We chatted about new products while I made a mental note of what I would be purchasing for my $50 product fee. I brought false MAC lashes with me that I bought the last time I had my makeup done, but was told she couldn't apply them for sanitary reasons. I understood because they use the same bottle of glue for everyone, but wish I would have known beforehand. That way I could have asked to bring my own glue since I'm terrible at applying those myself. When she finished I was extremely pleased with the result. She nailed it while being fun and enjoyable to talk to for the hour she worked. She gathered the items I wanted along with my complimentary tube of mascara, and met me back at the register in the main store room to check out. I've had my makeup done at MAC numerous times, even as recently as last year in the same back room, and the price has always been a $50 product fee. Needless to say when I was told my total was $114, I was taken aback. She said that anytime you book an appointment in their back room, it's a $60 application fee that still includes a free mascara. I really wish I would have been told that when I made the appointment, because I would've been completely fine getting it done in the main room for the normal price. I still needed the other items and there wasn't anything she could do to lower the price at that point since she was done, so I bottled my sticker shock and handed her my credit card. To add insult to injury.. it was declined. You see friends, because I was in town from out of state I only had one credit card with me that just happened to be the Amex through our Costco account. What my husband failed to tell me before our trip, was that they canceled that card when our new Visa's came in the mail. Another problem was that those new cards were sitting at home in Texas on our kitchen table requiring activation before they could be used. I was so humiliated. Thankfully I had my debit card, but winced when that amount was taken out of it which I hadn't planned for. I wanted to say forget it, pay the $60 and jet, but was far too embarrassed by then and just wanted to buy the crap and get out of there. I walked out in tears nearly ruining my expensive face. We were able to sort out the card situation back at the hotel before the wedding but it left me in such a bad mood. The whole situation could have been avoided had someone simply told me how much it would be when I made the appointment. Point? Be sure to ask about the pricing if you are making an appointment here (and that you have the correct card). I know I certainly will from now on. But at least I got a lot of compliments at the wedding so hey, I guess not all was lost. ;-) read more

Things I liked about this MAC location: The sales associate helping me was the most down to Earth I've encountered at any MAC location. They didn't make me feel like an ugly bug for not having done myself up in stage make-up before heading here or like I was some podunk suburban hillbilly for wanting to take a more conventional approach to make-up (ie- not shaving my eyebrows off and drawing them back in 2 inches higher like the staff at some of the other MAC cosmetics I've experienced). Also, my sales associate didn't try to up-sell me on anything. She answered my questions, assisted me with the 2-3 things I wanted, invited me to their next event and I was on my way. Things I didn't like: After I paid and was on my way, the store magically appeared cluttered with personnel talking amongst each other and standing in front of every exit route I could use to leave the store. So now I had to suck it in and try to squeeze through with my bag of cosmetics like I was the podunk bug I'd referenced in my first scenario. Sooo, some of the staff could certainly use a customer service lesson, while others aced the congeniality test. Love/Hate... take it or leave it. You can always try heading over to the Nordstrom MAC counter if there aren't a hoard of tanning-crazed women taking up all the cosmetic staff's time, like on my attempt to patronize them. read more

I'm a real MAC addict. Until moving to the Chicago area a few months ago, I'd never been to a free-standing store, and hadn't even been to a counter very many times. The people at this store were all really nice and pretty knowledgeable. One thing I didn't like is that it has always been extremely crowded when I've visited, but that's always been on a Friday evening or Saturday. The store is small (Oak Brook feels about twice the size), but they're moving to another location within Woodfield Mall that is hopefully larger. I've found that you may not get as much personal attention at a free-standing store as you get at a counter. That may be because they have so many more products as a MAC counter within another store. The employees may look like they're preparing for a drag show with the amount of makeup they're wearing (though they don't always wear really heavy or bold makeup), but don't let that frighten you - they know what they're doing! Even the guys who work for MAC are fantastic makeup artists. One thing I love about visiting the stand alone stores is their Back To Mac policy. For the uninitiated, once you get six empty MAC make-up containers (eye shadows, foundation, powders... there's many products included in the list), you can return them for free product. If you visit a counter within a department store, they can only give you a lipstick for it. However, if you visit a stand-alone MAC store, you can get a lipstick, lipglass or eyeshadow with the B2M program (a $14 value). But my name matches and I can verify my previous address. I told him that the City of Chicago doesn't require an issuance of new identification, we change it online, so it will never match. I've never been to a MAC with better customer service. The ladies were all polite and quick to help. I felt like they actually wanted my business and worked on commission. At my hometown MAC, they could really care less about you. That's why it was so refreshing to walk into this one. The store is pretty small though. You'll be rubbing some elbows, literally. Bottom line: MAC has great stuff. But go to the Nordstrom's MAC and skip the separate MAC store. I've got to agree with Andrea M. I've been wanting to try false eyelashes and I've heard MAC has good ones, plus the glue, plus they'll help you out and put them on the first time (TOTALLY needed this!). So I knew what I wanted, I def needed help choosing, and I needed help putting them on. Pretty direct, maybe a 10 minute consultation. There were two people working and two people in the store, myself and another lady who was pretty set up trying makeup on at a mirror. The free salesperson, Franklin, said hi and gave me two or three lashes to check out while he greeted another lady who had just come in. No problem, I fully respect someone who can multitask, and I"ve been in sales so I know it's pretty much required to leave and check in with new customers. But then he never came back. She was uber-time consuming, he never once said boo to me again, and then after she left (remember, there are TWO customers in the store. Total.) he takes his time, apparently doesn't notice me looking at him meaningfully, and then two new girls walk in together and he starts up a five minute convo with them. As Bon Qui Qui would say, "Rude!" So I left, went to Nordstrom and their lovely MAC people, and won't waste my time in that separate store again. Ugh. This store must be what hell is like. I stopped by the other day to pick up some foundation and recycle some old compacts I had lying around. I already knew exactly what I wanted to purchase, so this should have been a relatively easy and pain-free shopping experience, right? Wrong. Even though they had at least 8 employees that I could see, they were all too busy applying ugly raccoon makeup to young girls who looked MUCH better pre-makeover. Not only that, but there was a DJ set up in the middle of the *very tiny* store. This "DJ" was absolutely terrible, he was playing music louder than some of the bars I go to!! Why do they need a DJ in the store anyway?! He was covering up the makeup they are trying to sell with all of his speakers and crap. Then, while waiting at the register to pay for my one item, I had to wait almost 10 minutes for the sales clerk to help me. She was too busy trying to answer the phones, screaming at the people on them because the music was SO FREAKING LOUD. I almost walked outta there and went to the Mac counter in Nordstrom instead. I love this store! It might be the designs, or possibly the colors. I've never bought anything from this company that I did not like, sure I have things that I don't use often, but I love them all. Over the past two years or so, I've slowly been expanding my MAC collection, and I am convinced that this is going to be a lifetime thing. They have everything you could need, and the people who work here know these products very well. You should see what the interview process is like for these people, its nuts- but thats why they are so great! This review is based off of the gal Lindsey that helped me when I walked in. She was with a guest but immediately introduced herself and showed me where to find what I was looking for. As soon as she finished up with the girl she was helping she came over and gave me a great recommendation for red lipstick for the upcoming fall. She had me try a couple and pointed out a berry color would be better with my green eyes so very appreciative of her recommendation because I would have never picked that shade for myself. She showed me a couple of techniques to clean up the edges around my lips too! All of us non professional makeup wearers...there's a struggle if you accidentally smudge the red lipstick. Haha! She asked me which ones I wanted to take home with me and didn't pressure me into anything. She also asked if there was something else she could help me with and so I've always wanted to try contouring and getting on YouTube and looking for instructions is not for me. I'm sorry but a lot of those girls on there make it look easier than it is. She grabbed two products and showed me how to do something very simple to help define my cheek bones NATURALLY versus putting makeup all over my face and blending for hours on end. The way she showed me was extremely simple and quick. I purchased the powder but didn't purchase the other items she used but she was very kind and wrote them all down for me so I could remember what was what when I order them in the future. First time I went was pretty good, I got help from a very sweet girl! I forgot her name but I know she was around my age. Helped me pick out my summer color foundation (have a rough time with store brand foundation). Also helped me out with applying foundation and got a good brush. Now, the second time sucked big time. I went in and the staff was super busy and didn't even say hi or help when they weren't busy. So I left. Third time wasn't any better at all, I went in and it seemed like the guy who works there hates his job. I'm glad he picked out blushes that match my skin tone but he looked bored and came off unfriendly. I would have much rather pick my own make up by myself. Bleech, MAC you need to get better employees or clean up your act! It's not cute and I don't wanna feel like I'm going to Ulta 3 that's like across the street. Although I love M.A.C. I feel like this particular location [for being pretty much the biggest one in the burbs] should have a better selection of staff. I went in to trade my six empty containers to get a lipstick, lipglass, or eye shadow and I also asked for a sample of the "Violet" pigment. The girl looked at me like I'm not entitled to a free sample, like she was the owner of all M.A.C. stores and was stingy about her products. Can you say rude? LOVE that there is a MAC store in Woodfield! It is a bit tiny & cramped, especially on a busy Saturday, but the MUAs (Makeup Artists) are so knowledgeable, helpful & skilled at their craft! I could sit here all day and play with all their options, and MAC always has great quality products! Definitely need to have their eye shadows especially as a staple in your makeup collection! Also, if you bring back 6 of anything plastic/metal you get a free eyeshadow or lip product! I thought for the longest time that you had to only have 6 of the eyeshadow containers in order to get a free one, but the guy last time corrected me and showed me it can be basically anything except the wooden sharpened products. My world has changed! I have so many empties now I can bring back! So anything like the glass/plastic concealer or foundation bottles, or the fake eyelash containers, or even their makeup wipies bags can be brought back in series of 6 to be recycled & exchanged for a free product!!! MAC is capable of transforming anyone from ugly to beautiful... from being born a man to having the appearance of a woman... When I use a Make-Up Artist for consultation and application of their products, it becomes extremely difficult to have self-control from overspending. Whether or not I need everything she puts out, I want to follow her advice. Suffice it to say, I think using a Make-Up Artist is a necessary evil. Who better to see my face's full potential than the person looking back at me with a subjective point of view? She's a wonderful asset and worth the price I have to pay for beauty! I went in for pressed powder today and walked out with concealer, foundation, finishing powder, blush and lip gloss. I'm going back on Saturday, Christmas Eve, to have my make-up applied professionally for holiday dinner at Claim Jumper and to finish buying product to complete my look. Next visit: the eyes must have it! If you have never visited this location before, be patient when you arrive. This place is so awesome! The staff are superbly helpful and talented. I was helped by a generous and personable assistant named Pierre. I have been awake since 3 AM Chicago time because I flew in for the weekend, and Pierre answered my questions and tired attitude lovingly, while making me look amazing and sharing interests. I heart MAC Make-up!!! I've been wearing MAC make-up for over 2 years now...and I just love their products. This location is perfect for me. This store is in Woodfield Mall, however it is located fairly close to a mall entrance, so if needed you can make a quick stop in and out. Of course, this is one of the higher end cosmetics, so it is a lil bit more pricier than your normal drug store make-up. But it is all soo worth it. I love the eye shadows and the colors are beautiful. they have the best pigments and long wear is a must for me!! So far MAC has done that really well for me. Each time I go here, I am always greeted by the staff quickly. They are very friendly and knowledgeable about their products. I love it that I can try on a certain color right away, or see the new products displayed out in the front right away. My only complaint is, sometimes it can get busy in this store. There are not enough staff to help, or give you that one on one... if you have questions or want to try out a certain product or color. I've also had to wait a long time (up from 10 to 15 mins) a few time... just to pay. Even though there weren't alot of people in line... I also want to mention that MAC has this policy where if you return the used containers, kinda like recycling... you get a lipstick. I love that policy... since I do spend alot of money here. It makes me want to go here and return all my empty containers, just to get something back. All in all, I still love MAC... and will continue to use their product. I braved Woodfield to get to MAC today to refresh my make up collection. I've found that when buying cosmetics and beauty products, there's a lot of uppity, snooty employees that don't want to help you unless you look a certain way. SO not the case here at this MAC location. Tina Marie helped me try some new things, and she was a total blast. Totally talented, funny, and way personable. I seriously enjoyed my experience and her expertise. She talked through how to put apply different products, making sure I could watch her during the application. I purchased a lot of new make up, and I just hope I can apply it half as good as she did. I can't say enough about how completely rad she was. Came in here maybe 3 times in my life and will never go back. Each time I go in, I was never greeted and ignored. My most recent visit I was looking around for a lipstick, the place was empty, yet nobody came to help me. Like ok, if gossiping with your coworkers is more important, I'll take my money elsewhere. I have been meaning to write a review and kept putting it off. So here it goes. VERONICA is the best make up artist!!!!! I would recommend her to everyone. She did my make up for a birthday party I had to go to. I had no idea what I wanted, so she took the time to learn what I was wearing and what colors she should do. She is so knowledgeable about products and recommended some good make up for me (also she was not pushy at all about making a sale). I ended up leaving with foundation, lipstick and a lip primer. I'm a big MAC fan, but an even bigger one after visiting this location. The artist who assisted me (Noele, I believe) was amazing. She answered all my questions and helped me with a few brush techniques. She even did my eye makeup even though she knew I had no intention of buying any eye shadows. I complained about how a certain foundation only lasted a few weeks and she suggested another that would last twice as long and I love it. Such a great value. Yeah, you pay a little more, but to get the correct shades and know how to apply it correctly is priceless. read more

This location has one particular rude employee. I was interest in the strobing cream, but honestly didn't know what shade to get. As I approached the store nobody cared to greet me. It was pretty busy, so I understood. I walked around and searched for the item I was looking for. As soon as I saw it, I decided to swatch them to see which one would be best. There was two sample tubes, BUT both were the same color and the ones in stocks were the other color that didn't have a sample tube. One box looked opened, and I decided to open it see if it was tested. Sure enough it was, and I proceeded to swatch it on my hand. I stood there for about 10 mins looking at it and deciding which one to get. Mind you nobody ever offered help while I was trying to figure out which one to get. Then out of no where this dark skinned big lady with a very heavy accent came up to me and said "THESE ARE NOT TESTERS!" And I looked at her, and said "I'm sorry, but the two samples are the same color" Instead of her taking one tester, and replacing it with the correct tube she proceeded to say "WELL YOU SHOULD'VE ASKED ONE OF US AND WE COULD HAVE GOTTEN YOU THE CORRECT ONE FOR YOU. ILL TAKE THAT FROM YOU" , and literally took the box out of my hands without asking, if I was going to purchase it. She walked away and proceeded to say "WHO NEEDS HELP?" With an attitude. I walked away and decided to search around the store and as I got down to the end of the small store I found more strobe creams close to the register which upset me, because she didn't have to be plain rude and could have directed me to the rest of the strobe creams. Not ever did she ask if I needed help , if everything was okay, if I needed help with picking out something. Nothing at all. I am sales rep, and I know a lot about customer service. I know when to offer help and I know how to treat customers. She needs to learn a couple of things cause she's totally doing her job wrong. read more

Absolutely love Mac products! But unfortunately we'll only buy online. The staff at the store is completely rude. Every time I have gone in there I have been disrespected by the staff. Or they were very unpleasant. I went in there another time dressed classy with my makeup on, and i got treated completely different. The ladies who work here are definitely friendly and helpful. Maybe they are on commission, I don't know. If you're looking for high-end cosmetics, this is the place. They have high quality makeup, that lasts. The store is small, and things are somewhat squeezed in, but with the help from employees, you never have a problem finding what you're looking for. read more

This place gets extremely crowded on the weekends and assistance can be very hard to get. But on most other days, you can just walk in and there's plenty of people to help out. They have lots of different types of makeup and all the artists are great at giving tips and recommending products to customers. If you must go in on the weekend, make sure to make an appointment before you go! read more

I absolutely loathe this MAC store. I have went in probably about 4 times already to ask for a consultation and each time the sales associates have proven to be "too busy" to help out. It's ridiculous. You should be able to tend to one customer while greeting ones that walk in, at the least. Not to mention the mess of a display with missing shadows and smudged lipstick that I see each time i've gone in there. I'm so glad I live in Chicago and don't have this MAC store as my only option. read more
