I have a love hate relationship with Sephora because rarely is the correct shade for my face found, the right makeup products suggested, or the right products for my skin. Yesterday I met MaryAnn and what was different about her was that she asked me questions about my skin, talked to me so I felt really comfortable, and suggested the right products for my face. When I went home and put the makeup on I was in awe. The issues I've been having with my last makeup routine were solved. My makeup literally hasn't looked this good in a while, I couldn't stop raving about how much MaryAnn helped me find skincare and hair products as well to everyone. I have NEVER experienced this type of service the 16yrs that I have been coming to this location. I've been here a few times and it's always been an unpleasant experience--no one offers to help. It's bizarre. And when I do ask for help, the employees seem annoyed. Also, this location is veryyy messy. I know it's a busy location but please try to maintain it better.. it's literally a makeup and skin store. Their associates are so helpful and friendly, you will be comfortable anytime you visit at their store, and also you will definitely come back here because of their great customer service. Their managers are so professionals and kind. All of them seems to be very nice and friendly. They are very knowledgeable on ll of their products. My 92 year old mother received a Sephora gift card and wanted some skin care items so I wanted to get her a facial and some direction as to the products that would be appropriate for someone her age. I scheduled a Perk Face Treatment by Hydrafacial at the Schaumburg location since the appointment I made at the Geneva location was cancelled. The morning of the appointment I was notified that it was cancelled again due to unexpected circumstances. I then asked Anna, a supervisor at the Schaumburg location, if I could cancel the gift card and get my money back since both of my appointments were cancelled. No greetings or nothing after I was in the area for 5 minutes then a worker asked if I needed help and I told her the serum I had was sticky and she said oh some are and that's it no can I help you find one just asked if I needed a bag. Then when I check out the cashier asked me twice did anyone help and I said no she asked if I had the rewards card or whatever it's called and I said yes she said enter your number and I did and she said thank you and sat my bag on the counter. Some staff assist me and ask if it's for my girlfriend. After I said yes she assisted me with the inventory of makeup. The inventory was full of products. Who does not love Sephora? Cause I absolutely love the this store! Sephora is the only store I trusted for cosmetics. My skin is sensitive and it easily gets irritated whenever I am using certain products. I've been buying cosmetics in this store since then and I never had a problem. The last time I went here, I love the experience because they have new collections. Another good thing about the store is they have different brands including the famous brands of make ups. I love Rihanna and was happy that I was able to buy her brand of cosmetics in here. Even Rare by Selena is also available in here. I love this store. I always go here whenever I wanted to shop for make ups, perfume and the likes ever since. On my recent visit, everything seems back to normal and there are a lot of people inside but it is not crowded in fact I was able to shop freely. The store is clean and all of the selection are well organized. Majority of them are fully stocked. I love to shop in here because they have all great brands for cosmetics. I like make ups from different brands and it is always available in here. Prices are fair and reasonable too. I ordered a perfume bag for my wife to find out it was for men. I went to return it, had not even opened the bag. I was told several times that I could not return it first. Then I was told that if it was used, I could not return it (while Sephora's return policy clearly stated that slightly used perfumes could be returned). I told several times that I had not opened the bag and explained why am I returning it. Finally, after the manager sniffed every bottle (get a life), she agreed to take it. It's rare when you walk into a store and get the right kind of attention, asked if you need help but not hounded. This Sephora on Wednesday of this week was perfect. All staff was excellent. I asked for assistance after a while for a new concealer and a very kind woman called over Nick (best lashes and pretty eyes, quite jealous!) and he instantly made me feel comfortable. He asked how it usually holds under my eyes, if there were any brands I wanted to try etc. After the first one he suggested adding a quick swipe of eye cream before the second. Ended up with the best eye cream of my life that I didn't know I needed--honestly best money I spent and he didn't try to sell me on it, JUST the concealer. There's nothing better than someone who listens. Of course got the concealer and some other goodies too. read more

I recently got a makeover with Jessica at this location. She was really wonderful and took her time with me. We exchanged in great conversation and she really took the time to get to know me and I hope she felt I also listened to her as well. She went over skin care with me, it make such a difference, my skin feels amazing. I purchased some of the items we used because she showed me how to use them. This location is so busy, I see so many negative reviews. Consumers have a carelessness in their reviews and they miss the point, they only throw a fit when things don't go their way. Consider this, it's a busy mall, the employees are human, take a deep breath and look inwards at why you're really upset. You might be upset at something that no one has control over. I really like the store. I really wish this one was a bit bigger but there are a few locations that are. I found most of what I needed from Jeffery Star to Tarte. Tried some of the new line by Rihanna and loved it. My daughter was surprised to find a bag full of goodies after the trip. They had a couple sales. Nothing too extraordinary. The reason for this review is the makeup artist I had in February, Veronica! I have never had a better experience getting my makeup done. I was there to glam up before a gala I was attending and Veronica was great with all of my requests. I was in here today a little bit before close until close. The staff were so rude at the front. The woman at the doors was very abrupt and rude to people trying to walk in. The staff was loud and obnoxious. One yelled in my ear as she walked behind me and which really pissed me off. There was a guy who looked like a manager who was just as bad. I always get the help I need when I visit this Sephora! It's usually a zoo in there 24/7 haha, but the girls (or guys!) are always available to lend a hand or give advice. I've had girlfriends get recommended excellent eyebrow products, foundation products, and blush products! I myself have been helped numerous times with cologne and perfume. Just recently, I went in looking at skincare routines. A super nice lady (I wish I had asked her name!!!) directed me towards one of her favorite lines (Tata Harper), and went over several of her products with me. I went home with a few samples, and I LOVE THEM! This is what's so great about this store. I was reading liquid eyeliner reviews online the other day and came across one where the girl gave the eyeliner a 1 star rating because "it smudged when spit on just a little." WHO IS SPITTING IN YOUR EYES, GIRL?!?!? Let us help you. Flavor of Love has been off the air for years. Friends who spit in your eye even just a little are not your real friends. There's got to be a hotline we can get a hold of for you or something. Needless to say, shopping for make-up is no easy feat on top of being confusing and expensive as hell-- you can basically trust no one. It's important to be able to try things out and form an opinion of your own... no matter how ridiculous and spitty that opinion may be. There was a time when I lived in this area and would come here to check out goods. A lot of the stuff that I came here for I would test out and then just buy for less money on Amazon or use Sephora online discount because you get more free samples if you order online. The set-up for the store is great and I've always found their staff to be surprisingly helpful + knowledgeable, and they never forget your free gift with purchase, like every Ulta and Sally's on the planet do. It's easy to test things out and they give their merch much more room than other area locations so you don't end up grabbing for one test lipstick and getting streaks of 4 other test lipsticks on the sleeve of your brand new expensive winter coat in the process (which did happen to me at another location, in case you didn't gather that already from how specific I was in sampling a scenario). The only thing that makes this location hard to deal with is it's location, which is inside of the dreaded Woodfield mall - and for those who are not familiar, is basically hell on Earth. This store is located at the nexus of evil, in between a Baby Gap and Mrs Fields Cookies, so the number of children who are clearly the spawn of satan is at a real peak point just outside the storefront here. read more

I love cosmetics as much as the next girl. I can shop as good as the next girl. So why do I HATE shopping for cosmetics at this Sephora? One word: stalkers! The staff here approached me no less then 14 times during my 40 minutes here. The first girl dutifully showed me the mascara, made some suggestions, I made a choice and then told her I just wanted to look around. Three minutes later: Sephora shop girl: "Can I help you find something?" Me: "No, I'm just looking", only to turn around and be asked again. And again. And yet again. I make a break for it. Two displays down, same question, same answer. One minute later, again. I told the girl that she was the fifth person to offer help in the last five minutes but would be sure to let one of the five know the SECOND I needed assistance! Two minutes later, guess what the magic question was from yet another sales person? It just wouldn't stop. Anytime I touched a product, read a info card, looked at a trinket or smelled a soap they swarmed me like vultures on fresh roadkill. I swear I wanted to get a restraining order against them. I pretended to be on the phone thinking that would stop them. No such luck. THEY REALLY WANTED TO HELP ME- A LOT! Irritated beyond belief I took my purchase to the cash register ten minutes before closing and bought the one item I was able to actually look at without being stalked. We went to leave and realized they had locked us in the store (um fire code violation ladies......). I couldn't imagine a worse nightmare. read more

Ah, the ol' pizza analogy rears its head once again - basically, there's no such thing as a 'bad' Sephora. But, some are better than others. And this one is exactly that! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and left to my own devices until I actually needed help. No up-selling, no following... none of that. When I was ready to pay at the counter, I mentioned that I had received my free birthday postcard in the mail several weeks prior and that it had expired since the 2-week window had passed. No worries, the sweet sales associate said! A few minutes later, I was on my merry way with a shiny lacquer-like red lip gloss, my complimentary Philosophy birthday cake bubble bath and some free samples. And now? I absolutely love Sephora and being a VIB member, but I absolutely hate this location. I have two experiences that are the reasoning behind my 1 star rating. The first experience involved my sister. We walked into the store and no one greeted us at all or asked if we needed help finding anything. My sister went up to an employee because she wanted help finding a new concealer. My sister explained how the one she previously used made her face look a yellowish tint. The employee's response was, "well you are yellow..." Let me add the fact my sister and I are of Asian descent. My sister and I had no words to even say after that as the employee continued to search more liquid concealers on her arm. All I have to say about that experience is how rude!!! How do you just straight up tell someone "well you are yellow." My second experience was actually today. I walked in to give this store a second chance and of course I was not greeted when I walked in. I did get asked if I needed help finding something and I mentioned how I recently dyed my hair and was looking for a purple shampoo to tone the brass color out of my dyed hair. The lady just looked at me as if I was stupid and as if it were a hassle for me to explain the type of product I was looking for. In fact, she was more concerned about talking thru her headset thing to get another employee at the register because the line was long. She ended up pointing out 2 different shampoos, but quickly left my side to attend to a different customer. I ended up leaving and went to the local Sally Beauty Supply store where their employees were actually willing to help their customers and greet them. I will never be back at this Sephora location. Maybe the employees should learn some professionalism from the ones who work at the Hawthorn Mall location in Vernon Hills. I love Sephora. I shop there all the time in San Francisco. That may shock some people to hear - considering that I kind of put myself out there as the "anti-girly grrl" - but, it's true. I like makeup (though I don't often wear it) and pretty smelling stuff like lotions, perfume and soaps. I like good hair products and all those trappings of the girly-grrl. For those of you laughing your asses off at this revelation: Just 'effing shut it! Anyhow, my Beautiful and Gracious Mother had some gift cards for Sephora and we had some time to kill before we were supposed to meet people for cocktail hour at our hotel so we decided to wander over to the Woodfield Mall Sephora. Again, I love Sephora - so I'm not surprised that I had a very pleasant experiance (which involved dropping a lot of cash, not mine - yes, I am that kinda punk... But, I'm the only girl-child in my immediate family, so sometimes da Mommaship likes to play Barbie. I do not complain.) On this trip I scored new fancy vampish eyeliner, mascara and eyeshadow (perfect for doing those smoky bedroom eyes;) and, some new super smooth foundation and powder; plus, vamp red lipstick (MEOW!) And, some free Bliss face wash. If you think that is an egregiously huge score (it is) let me just tell you that ma Mommaship bought herself tons o' treats including some nighttime moisturizer which cost $125 for three ounces. I love to just wander and smell as many perfumes as I can before my nose gives out. Then I go home and find them on eBay for half the price. It's better than blowing my paycheck here, of which I could probably do quite easily. I think I give off a "leave me the hell alone" vibe, for which I am grateful. The employees here are friendly and seem to be well-versed in the world of makeup. I ended up getting the Two-Faced white chocolate pallet, and it looks great on me. I wish it was a little less grey, but that's not up to Sephora, so I'm going to keep that out of this review. It is inside a mall, so it can get a little overwhelming, but the ladies seem to have it under control. TLDR: Great service, friendly staff, probably the best Sephora in the Chicagoland area. I had stopped in to look at nail polish. I found a color I thought I might like, but I ended up putting it back and eventually leaving the store because the sales person would NOT STOP HOUNDING ME no matter what I did. On top of this experience, it's really common while shopping here for someone to stop you every couple of minutes and ask if you need help. It's nice that they're making sure you are being helped (read: making sure you're not shoplifting) but it's really annoying (and somewhat embarrassing) when you've got your face pressed into a mirror trying on make up and you have to stop with half a lip covered in lipstick to say "no, I'm fine, thank you". I'll reiterate what I said in my original review: The employees don't pester you at ULTA, they pretty much have all the same brands, and their rewards system is far better (your points get you money off of future purchases instead of just some samples). I like Sephora's Formula X brand of nail polish, but it's not worth the hassle from the sales people. read more

I love the products they have, but the employees are terrible, Basically me and my friend were in Sephora, we were checking out the minis and put a bunch in a basket to decide later, suddenly we're being followed and constantly asking if we need help. She even reached in our basket and asked if we opened the package which we did not. The rest of the time we were looking around workers didn't leave us alone, followed us around. we then went to figure out what we wanted to keep and like 4 workers surrounded us. She immediately took us to check out and rushed us. It was very unnecessary, finally as we were walking out i noticed the makeup and was looking at it, and my friend was like "ooh dior!!" and that's when one of the workers that was "helping us" was in our face and said is there something you wanna give me? I am not from the area but I can say that I wish I was after meeting the delightfully amazing Samantha. I am from Midway Airport and had a few minutes to spare before work so I always try to visit the most nearest Sephora I have access to at the moment. I walk in here and was greeted by Samantha and she was able to help me by answering questions I had about skin care. Then, she proceeded by guiding me around the store with products she would recommend for my skin type and my issue. She gave me some samples and then asked if I was a JC penny credit card member; which I am not. We applied and during that process she gave me more information and a goodie bag for my visit today at Sephora. Although, I didn't but anything she was amazing and took her time with me about skin care needs because that is what I mostly focus on more for myself. The only thing I don't really care for about sephora is they won't do your makeup for you like the department store makeup counters will with a purchase. I've been here many a time to get stuff in attempts to make my face look pretty. Plus they have a good variety of smelly things for me to try. I'm sort of a fragrance buff, and the ladies selling the wares are a smidge behind on what's new. It's not a big deal since there is little pressure to buy compared to a department store counter. Plus they make samples of a fragrance for you to take home if you want. The store is a pretty good size. There is an Ulta closer by me, but I prefer Sephora because they have the brands I want. Not to be a snob (OK, I am being a snob), but it's weird to me for Ulta to have Lancome and then sell Lip Smackers 3 aisles across the way. I just shop here so I can get the twice a year 15 or 20% discount. Seriously, 15% off a perfume, Murad, or Philosophy products is a big deal. read more

Love the vibe at this Sephora, mostly because Theresa was so helpful and friendly. She's definitely got that big sister who knows everything you've always wanted to learn about makeup, and she's totally willing to stop and help you (in detail, even when you keep coming up with more questions) and also fits your style even if it's not the style she uses on herself with makeup. I know it can be hit or miss with service at most makeup stores. Some of us like to be asked a few times if we need help, some of us prefer to be left alone until we ask, but I'd say the most important indicator is that they have enough people available that when you want attention, you get the right amount, and that they are friendly enough to help. read more
