Yesterday, (Nov. 8th, 2025), I visited Chrissy at the huge, clean and very professional Ulta Hair Salon in Bloomingdale, IL. This was not just going to be my regular appointment with her (color touch-up for grey roots and thinning out/trimming my shoulder length, brown, super thick, curly hair--which she does so beautifully anyway! ;) Chrissy has been my personal hair stylist and good friend for several years. I told her I wanted to change my hair color from boring brown and add in hints of strawberry-blonde highlights while touching up my grey roots. She always listens and explains how and what she will actually do, before she proceeds, which educates me along the way. I love her enthusiasm, offering creative solutions---yet always checking in with me to make sure I am comfortable and content. Wow, she delivered again! I walked out with this sparkling, strawberry-blonde set of partial highlights and a smooth, bouncy blowout, feeling very confident and pretty!! Yes! Finally, Chrissy is so kind and sincere. Her warmth and dedication is unmatched because she TRULY CARES and WANTS you to look awesome! I do love coming here they have excellent variety from drugstore to premium. I love when they offer you the 20% off prestige. There's always a good sale and clearance. The staff is very friendly. The most part they will go out of their way to help you. it's very clean and knock off one star just becauseyou have to make for sure the products are not used by customers. They have a decent return policy. it's a great one. Stop shop you can pass a lot of time in there if your beauty enthusiastic. read more

I normally get my hair done at a private salon since I'm picky, esp when it comes to my bangs, and would've never considered going to Ulta, but my sisters raved about Robyn so I thought I'd try my luck. I have long thick black hair, which needed to be thinned out and I asked for a shag haircut, razor cut and provided a pic. This is by far the worst Ulta store that I've ever been too. I am a diamond/platinum mber for years and I was disgusted by the employees. Middle eastern lady couldn't be bothered as she was just putting on makeup by the high end side. i would ask employees for suggestions but would just tell me the brand but not the product and it even walk me to the right direction. I took my niece so I can buy her a few things and was just utterly disgusted by this Ulta. this place did not look sanitary either. I am one to never write reviews but in this case I had too. Just went to the salon and met Carissa for my appt... Best first haircut I've ever experienced, I am rather picky... Carissa was very knowledgeable about the science of hair and haircare, I am also tender headed - never once did I need to inform her that I was, as she was gentle throughout. I did the cut, deep condition, and a scalp treatment. my hair feels great and while I joked with her this was our "first date" - I finally found a stylist that I will see a 2nd time! This review is for the GREAT experience I had at the Clinique counter! I visited on a Sunday near opening time and got the Clinique rep as she arrived. I needed some foundation and she was really patient and took the time needed to explain about my shading and the color I needed. She had me hold a mirror so I could see how she was putting it on and it made other suggestions about my skin care and color choices. The Clinique reps at Ulta are NOT paid on commission, so she was being sincere, it was not a shameless money grab. There were several people stopping by while she was applying my makeup and she managed to juggle their questions while still giving me top notch service. Thank you A for the great service! I've never had a great experience at any ulta. In my experience the staff has always been very cold and it's hard to find someone to help you because they are always talking in groups. Most of the time when I do find someone they are very rude and have attitude. read more

I've been coming to this Ulta for quite a few years now. They've always been helpful. I love that with Ulta, I never have a problem returning anything - no matter how cheap or expensive. They always have the receipt in their system, so I don't even need to bring one. The employees are always asking if I need help, I'm always greeted when entering the store, and the cashiers are always friendly. I don't know why the bad reviews... Only thing I could do without is the extremely long line. Either they need to move faster, or open more registers. I dread that line every time. read more

I wanted to believe this location was not as bad as the overall Yelp rating, but it is spot on. The other reviewers hit the nail on the head. Overall, Ulta is a nice option because it is one stop shopping for all of your beauty needs. Okay, so you carry a bunch. Now what?!! One would then expect that the sales associates are knowledgeable and helpful. "Hi, can I help you find anything" or "Are you finding everything okay?" are NOT words you will here at this location. Assistance is provided only when it is sought and even then, you will be left the impression that you are bothersome. The item I went in to purchase was out of stock and I practically had to beg the associate to point me to a similar product. On the other hand, check out was quick and the cashier was bubbly and enthusiastic about their rewards program. .....One can only hope the cashier rubs off on the other associates OR the service oriented staff members are transitioned to the sales floor. read more

I came in to fix the color on my balayage done by another salon and master stylist Danielle proceeded to redo the balayage using bleach again even though I had told her I just had my hair bleached a few days prior. She said my hair wouldn't be damaged because she will use some ph binder and it's an easy fix, so I believed her. Posting a pic of what I came in with (above pic) and how I left (bottom). I also asked for very subtle layers and she proceeded to cut off anbout five inches in the front and leave one choppy layer. Just terrible, left with very brittle disgusting looking hair. I expressed that I wasn't pleased and got a snappy "I'm just doing what you asked for!" from Danielle their "master stylist". read more

Hrm, I could have SWORN I had another review up here re: an experience purchasing Pur brand primer... Anyway, I stopped in the other day to purchase some Burberry perfume for my mother's birthday and was dismayed that they had TWO 1.7oz bottles out. TWO bottles of perfume, period, in that display. I had to wait at the register to inquire about there being any back stock in other sizes (there was). My experience would have been better if they were appropriately stocked...surprising, since we're not yet at the holidays! It would also have been great if associates were more readily available on the sales floor to meet customer's needs. read more

The only reason I go to this Ulta is because it's close to me. Other than that I hate this location's costumer service. There have been more than one occasion where the employees were very rude, mean and disorganized. They don't give a crap about their customers. For example, I went in this morning and I was looking for an L.A. Girl concealer and they didn't have testers for two of the shades. So I go up to the lady (Lisa) at the register and ask her that if by any chance she had one somewhere or if they could make one. Her response was "well they should all be there" I was like "But they're not" and she just looked at me frustrated and said "well then you're gonna have to look for them good. Try taking them all from the back and see if they're there." She didn't have anyone in line and she still didn't want to help me!!! Then when I checked out she still seemed frustrated but she was being so kind to others. A few months back I had gone with my cousin to get color matched and my cousin was trying to explain her undertone, problem areas and skin type and the woman cut her off and said "it's ok it doesn't matter I'm just going to color match you" LIKE WHAT HOW IS SHE GONNA KNOW WHAT FOUNDATION FINISH AND UNDERTONE TO GET IF YOU DIDNT LET HER FINISH. Although I come here all of the time because it's so close, I DREAD IT. I have never waited in a line less than 5 people ahead of me. They always seem short-staffed... Literally plan to stand in line for 10-30 minutes to check out. I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating, but I regret to inform you that I am not. For the most part, I can find what I need. However, there have been multiple occasions where they don't seem to restock items I'm looking for for over 3-4 weeks. I don't use anything rare or out of the ordinary, so it's incredibly annoying to go try to pick something up to have the shelf be repeatedly empty. And best of luck finding a staff member to ask about it... There is NEVER anyone around. read more

I always feel like a kid in a candy store at Ulta. My sisters and I had gift cards that we were waiting to use until we could all go shopping together. They have a great selection, and I didn't notice they were low/out of a lot of inventory. I DID notice they didn't have samples of some items I was looking at. Luckily, I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted - I really like Urban Decay's "super saturated" lip pencils - so long-lasting! Their OPI and Essie collections are also huge. I was greeted by one associate while I was shopping around. Then when I got to checkout and tried to use a coupon, my gift card, and my Ulta points card, the cashier was totally confused and seemed to not know how to apply all three. Weird? Oh well. I hate how they put out all these coupons ($3.50 off a $10) purchase....then the fine print excludes half the store (sales, clearance, certain brands, etc.). Oh well. read more

Saw their sign for $25 gel nails & decided to try it for the first time. The manicurist was friendly, explained what she was doing, & informed me I could come in for a touch up if any chipping happened within a week. She said the Opi gel manicure would last for at least 3 weeks. Upon arriving home, I noticed one hand was dull & the other glossy. Within 3 days, several nails were chipping. Went back within a week & was told I'd have to schedule an appointment for removal & re-painting at full cost. Not what I was expecting to hear & declined. The next day the polish started peeling off & friends told me the manicurist must have done something wrong. So, since I'm searching for a new nail salon, figured I'd review the salon & save others the headache of nasty looking nails that you can't fix at home. Also had my hair cut but that is another review as I loved Keri, the hair stylist. read more

The Benefit Brow bar at the Bloomingdale location is amazing. I went today for an eyebrow and upper lip wax and Nicole was amazing and hilarious. I didn't even think my brows were bad until she transformed them into amazing lightly arched brows. My face is transformed. The worst experience ever. I came in to ask a :professional " about some foundation I needed for my face. And everyone was very rude and sending me to other people like they did not want to attend me. I felt like ok. Then I asked to see certain products and they were even helping me. Then a girl tried some foundation on my face which was was way off color. I'm not trying to look like oompa loompa. I asked them if they had samples, rudely answered no. So I literally toom my business to Sephora and Ulta just lost a loyal customer. I buy alot of stuff from ULTA, but not anymore. Not only did sephora help me , the had a skin tone match with a different foundation and helped me save some money and get free samples of everything theu recommended and I spent 100$ with them because they actually took the time to help me and spoke to me like they cared. HORRIBLE customer service. Nobody greets or asks to help you, and if you're looking for a product, they're just going to tell you where it is to find yourself. Also, the customer service over the phone is ridiculous. Called and had a question, and got a reply as if I was a 5 year old. Kept using an irritating voice and acted like I was an inconvenience for them the entire time. Simply asked about an online order to expect a response to explain my situation, but instead got a 2 second rude response that didn't even answer my question. If I could give a Zero to the bloomingdale Ulta i would. When I walked in nobody greeted me. I had booked a last minute salon appointment with the master stylist . I was waiting at the salon counter for 10 minutes without anyone helping me (even though a lady who seemed like a store manager was right there and point blank ignored me until I had to ask someone for help. Master stylist I showed her pictures of Exactly what I wanted. OMG she just messed my hair up totally and did not even know what she was doing. When you pay $55 for a Master stylist then your expectation is there. Instead of a stacked bob cut she gave a boy cut. Just pathetic and worst experience ever. The cashiers seemed irritated when I asked a question, specifically a cashier named Deanna? (I believe). Terrible customer service, acted with an attitude. Believe me, I have worked my fair share of customer service jobs, and I know that it is ALWAYS ABOUT THE CUSTOMER! If you are having a bad day, too bad knock it off and try to act friendly. I love this ulta and the amount of money I have spent here is frightening. This review is for the salon, the facials to be exact. Do yourself a favor and book a facial with Gianna immediately. I cannot say enough good things about the experience. Initially I was leery because I've had nightmare facial experiences (sensitive skin+harsh products=emergency room visit). But Gianna listened and now I've had two glorious facials and will be having more. I will also comment about customer service in response to previous reviews. I called first to see if they had the product I needed. The first person I spoke to snapped at me after I asked if she was sure they did not carry the product because I had purchased it there before. She had heard me incorrectly I guess. After that she put me on hold and then TWO other people picked up the phone asking what I needed. That's a total of THREE people in a relatively small store Picking up the phone and placing me on hold. Communication there must be rough. Finally found the product, was told there was one left. She put it on hold. I drove to purchase the product. As I was driving away I noticed it was completely the wrong consistency (a sign of being very old) and not even half full. This is a beauty lovers heaven. You walk in and there's displays greeting you with their sale items. Their gorgeous hair event is happening now so they have today's sale items. This location is great with signage for sales. What I love is they have inexpensive, drugstore makeup like Almay and Covergirl and high end makeup like Tarte, Anastasia Beverly Hills, etc. the higher end makeup is on the right side of the store and the inexpensive is on the left side. The store is nicely organized and usually fully stocked. The women who work here know their stuff and always ask if I need help. Today there wasn't too long of a line to check out. Most days when I go here, the line is 15 people long with 2 girls working registers. Sometimes I receive a sample gift for the wait. Today as I was being checked out the woman next to me was asked if she wanted to make a donation to breast cancer research. I was not asked that. Instead I was asked if I wanted to sign up for their credit card, which I'm preapproved for. I've repeatedly said that I am not interested so it bugs me that I still get asked. I do like that for October they give you a pink bag for BCR instead of their usual orange ones. read more
