    Before surgery

I went to go see Dr. Samantha Sklar after listening to a radio commercial. I was very skeptical regarding the bunion surgery. I heard horror story and certainly did not want to be one of them. After speaking with Dr. Samantha Sklar, I felt very comfortable and at peace with my decision to continue with the procedures. I had bunion surgery on my right foot the middle of April at the Oak Brook location. A month later, I had surgery at the Schaumburg location for my left foot. Having my surgery done at the Schaumburg location was much much MUCH easier. You get there, the nurses take you to the back part of the building, they sit you in a chair and start doing the work. You wake up, the nurses walk you to the lobby where you meet your ride and walk right to your car. You don't need to change your clothing or any of those shenanigans. Simple, fast and easy. Oak Brook on the other hand, makes you come earlier, can't have your nails painted, make you wear a hospital gown, shoes and hair net. The surgery is performed in a huge room that is cold as heck and supper scary. They keep you there for an hour after you wake up and send and outrageous bill to your insurance company. My suggestion is to opt for the Schaumburg location, much much easier and all of the staff is super friendly. My surgeries where no where near as painful as I expected. I walked to the car on both instances. For the next 3 days, after my surgery, I watched Netflix and stayed in bed, icing and elevating my foot. I returned to work on the 4th day both times. The healing process was much simpler than what I expected. I noticed my progression everyday. Now that my right foot is healed, my scar is not visible nor noticeable. You don't have to worry about having a huge ugly scar. Both of my surgeries where performed by Dr. Keith Sklar and Dr. Samantha Sklar. They are both amazing at what they do. I do not regret at all getting my surgeries. I would definitely recommend Foot First Podiatry to anyone looking for excellent results.

Ask the Community - Foot First Podiatry

Can you still wear heels after this surgery?

Hi! Heels can be worn 3 to 4 months after surgery and Wedges in 2 months. Hope this helps. If you have any other questions please email us at office@footfirst.com or by calling 847-352-9221. Thanks!

How soon after surgery would I be able to wear a heel? I'm trying to decide on a Spring or Fall procedure.

Hi! I can tell you most patients - on average - are back in a heel within 3 to 4 months. Please know though without seeing your foot or knowing the exact procedure you would be having I can’t promise that. If you have any additional questions please…

What is the avg bunionectomy cost before insurance?

Hi Liz. If you'd like to contact the office at 847-352-9221 we will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Called in the morning after experiencing my 5th day of foot pain in the joint of my big toe. They got me in at 1pm same day. Super nice efficient staff. Filled out the forms in my phone. Went in got X-rays on my foot to check for breaks or a sprain. X-ray looked good. I was diagnosed with gout by Dr Khan. Prescribed steriod and acid reducer. Got a handicap form to take to the DMV and blood test order to check levels of uric acid. Got my blood work inside the hospital. Went across the street to Walgreens to get my prescription. 6 hours later my pain level went down to 10% of what it was. Writing this review next morning and I have zero pain. This was the best experience from start to finish as far as dealing with a medical issue and I'm going to be 50 this July so I have had plenty of experiences. Highly recommend and the office is inside the hospital and free valet parking is available. Photos are before and after seeing the doctor. The after is the very next morning.

I went for an ingrown toenail and had my boyfriend drive me, for his sake I asked him to stay in the car. I got to the exam room and once I asked about permanent removal they went looking for the solution and never found it after making me wait 10+ minutes. They told me they'll do a removal and did, but if I wanted a permanent one I'd have to come back again and pay again. WHO would be okay with this? After I waited in the office with getting handed some directory papers for cleaning by the nurse and waited for someone since no one had said anything. I waited 20 MINUTES and had the hop to the front desk for help and the desk lady looks like she doesn't wanna help, didn't care and asked out loud "can someone help her" without even looking at me. Eventually a nurse came and asked what was wrong, and I thought I'd be getting a surgical shoe since I've gotten one before with no fee. The nurse asked another nurse and that nurse asks the doctor. 5 minutes waiting there the doctors comes back to me standing on one foot in the hallway with other patients walking by. I told them I thought I'd get a surgical shoe and no one told me if I could leave. She said "I never give out surgical shoes" and I corrected her with she did the last time I was there. She then says "Well, I usually don't give out surgical. I then said forget it since she wanted me to pay and I walked out without a word and second appointment. I've never felt so disgraced upon.
