After a previous bad experience and 10 years I gave them another try. Ordered 2 chicken parms and a cheese pizza . Sandwich looked like it was dipped in a pot of sauce. Dripping everywhere. After using a fork& knife to try it I realized there was no breading. It was just grilled chicken, lots of sauce and some cheese. The sauce as a side note tasted like it had hot sauce in it. I would have thought with MA In the name the food would've been made with love. BOY was I surely proven wrong! After a long day of work the wife and I decided to ordered takeout, She got the chicken broccoli ziti and I the manicotti with meat sauce. I would not recommend either. For one the manicotti was drowned in meat sauce with absolutely no meat, and the ziti was dryer than my ex's mother's personality. There was a sign outside that said "Hiring all positions". Apparently they fired the seasoning because everything tasted like the water the pasta was boiled in. The service was not great either. So came to the restaurant tonight and was treated extremely rudely. We arrived at the same time that a party of 4 came in. They were seated at a relatively small table for 4 people while another table was empty. That was the last table available for parties of 2 or 4. Apparently, the larger table is for parties of 6 as we were informed when my husband questioned why the party of 4 couldn't sit at that table. We were told we could sit at a high top near the bar (which was more like sitting in a hallway). Ok fine, we decided to wait. I don't mind waiting but I do mind when staff start talking about us to patrons who were sitting at the bar. That's when I decided to take my business elsewhere. The food here certainly isn't worth that kind of treatment. I'm ok with never eating at Ma Raffa's again. They need to treat their customers much better than this. read more

I wanted eggplant parmigiana badly but didn't want to drive to Federal Hill for takeout. There are no options for Italian food in the Somerset/Fall River area I was very disappointed. The pasta seemed to come from a box, the sauce from a can and the eggplant was so salty that I couldn't taste the eggplant I should have just heated up an Angelo's frozen eggplant parmigiana. Picked up an order for the holidays- the chicken parm is not breaded & came with no tomato sauce. The lasagna, I bought the biggest platter & threw out the majority of. I saw a guest take 1 bite & push the plate away, it could best be described as "mushy". The best item I received was the meat sauce they charged extra for on the side. Been coming to this place since I was a kid and it always hits the spot when you're craving classic italian food in a warm setting. Most recent visit, I had the chicken parm lunch and was very satisfied with the flavor of the chicken and the portion size, I nearly got a second meal out of the salad+bread+entree lunch deal (and at $10.99 a steal in this economy!). Service was great and our server took great care of us. A lunch for 3 people with plenty leftovers for $45 can't be beat! read more

I don't know. I'm a bit bummed. I went in here on lunch break the other day and had an amazing bowl of minestrone soup. My mouth is watering as I type. It's very clean inside and very friendly staff. Prompt with service and the food smelled amazing. So we went there yesterday for lunch. You definitely get your money's worth as the portions are not small by any means. I forgot to take pictures!! Grrr. Anyways, with all that positive comes the negative. The food lacked any real flavor which seemed odd to me. For smelling so amazing, it didn't have one thing that stuck out to me. I didn't really enjoy the red sauce and I'm thinking maybe I should have gotten the meat sauce? Maybe that's more flavorful? My chicken parm wasn't really that good at all. I've made it at home the same exact way so I expect a restaurant to do a better job than I would at home. I have purchased their lasagna party platter and antipasto platter a number of times.It was always good.Today ,I was shocked with my take out order.I ordered an antipasto which was excellent.I opened the styrofoam box and I was shocked at what I saw.The veal Parmesan dinner was a disaster.The small veal cutlets were burned. On top of the cutlets there were a few pieces of burnt cheese.The spaghetti had a small pasty concoction on top of it which was supposed to be the sauce.By far the worst veal Parmesan I have ever had,including TV dinners.Ma Raffa's should be ashamed to be serving food like this.Will not be dining there again. read more

Came here for lunch when my daughter and I were in town for a softball tournament. Huge portions of fresh n delicious food like Nonna used to make. The staff were all wearing masks and were super friendly and helpful. I had a a massive veal parm sangwich and my daughter had spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garlic bread. We were full after barely finishing half our food. But my daughter was sufficiently fueled up to continue playing the rest of the day. We will definitely come back next time we have a tournament in Somerset. read more

Went for dinner, there's a sign on the door that says "dining room closes daily at 5pm". Ok. That would be fine, if it was noted somewhere on their website or Google. I went through their ENTIRE site, and there's nothing that states this. I call and ask how long take out would be for 2 large pizzas, and the girl was extremely rude. I get times are tough, but there's no excuse for their dine in hours to not be listed SOMEWHERE. If I had known this I would have totally called ahead and picked it up, as I don't live close. Instead I wasted a trip and didn't have time to sit in the parking lot for 30 minutes for my pizzas to be done, and then drive home to eat them. (I'm pregnant and literally starving couldn't wait that long to eat) Really disappointed and unfortunately I probably won't be back. read more

Unfortunately, our visit was not as expected. We live in SC and was visiting family members for a mini-reunion. Family members recommended we get food at Ma Raffas. We ordered 2 large pizzas for take-out, a veggie and a magdelana (sp) pizza. The restaurant was about a 3 minute drive from where we were staying. The magdelana was cooked properly and did not stick to the cardboard box. However, the veggie pizza must have been undercooked as it stuck to the inside bottom of the cardboard box. We had to scrape slices from cardboard and not all of the slice was coming off the box. What we did get to eat, was floppy, not crispy like the magdelana. We were probably only able to scrape about half the pizza, making that the reason for the rating. In all the pizzas we have ever had at many other pizza places/italian restaurants around the U S as we travel, we never encountered this issue. The veggie pizza should have had wax paper or whatever is normally used underneath hot pizza. I do not know if we would patronize Ma Raffas next time we are in the Somerset, MA area, sorry. read more

I went to Ma Raffa's yesterday, and I didn't have the best experience. Every 2 minutes there was a waiter who continuously came around in a circle to grab people's food. My dad was eating his salad, and my dad wanted to be nice, so when the "bus boy" came around and asked, even though my dad wasn't done, he gave him his bowl. Then when my was IN THE MIDDLE OF EATING, he said "Are you all set with that sir?" My dad replied with "No, I'm not." He came around and continuously stared at my sister and her plate as he walked past. Then our waitress came about a minute later and said, "Are we stuffed?" But my sister said, "no." Also my dad wasn't fond of his lobster ravioli, there was a lot of Alfredo sauce, and it was very thick and chunky. But, the chicken tenders and fries, as well as their pizza is DELICIOUS. Nothing good to say about this place . Waitress was not knowledgeable and rude. We asked why the chicken parm wasn't breaded because we've never heard of that and she told us that they are a small restaurant and not a chain so they don't have time to bread anything?!?! She also told us that the deep fried raviolis we're made in house but we're served to us still frozen in the middle . Side sauce was steaming hot on top but cold below - clearly microwaved . What happened to this place? Although rarely visiting, I used to love going to Ma Raffa's. I must admit I hadn't been there in nearly ten years until my recent visit last night. Something has definitely changed. I should have known by the photos of plates of food, shot from directly overhead, on the back wall. Was I in an Italian restaurant or the Chinese place at the mall food court? I ordered my old favorite, the Chourico w/ cheese grinder and the person with me ordered Baked Ziti w/ Meat Sauce. How could you go wrong with either one? You'd be surprised. The grinder was a mystery to me. The crust on the bread was nice and toasted in a few areas but soft and mushy in most areas. I'm not really sure how that's even accomplished. Onto the Baked Ziti. Let's first imagine a nice Baked Ziti, al dente Ziti pasta mixed with a nice red meat sauce, all covered in browned bubbly cheese. Now flush that all down the toilet because that's not what you're getting at Ma Raffa's. Instead you get mushy, over cooked Ziti pasta on the bottom, some cheese over that and then some meat sauce thrown on top. I've had better Stouffer's frozen Baked Ziti. In fact, I may have to eat some of that Stouffer's frozen Baked Ziti to try and forget about this Ma Raffa's Baked Ziti. Oh, and I almost forgot about the best part. Before our meals arrived, we asked for some bread. Out came a steaming hot, butter coated.... wait for it.... hoagie roll. I did all I could to keep myself from laughing when it hit the table. And when I say "steaming hot", I mean exactly that. You couldn't even touch this thing w/o risk of burning your fingers. The kicker, all of this at a higher price point than comparable restaurants. The noisy atmosphere left a lot to be desired as well. I seem to remember taller booths and more separation between bar and dining area but I could very well have been wrong about that. I have gone since I was little the Raffa family is extremely friendly the staff are always so polite and enjoy a good laugh. The bread is always fresh and the food comes out nice and hot. The desserts are delightful I love going every time I can. The restaurant has a warm fun atmosphere to it so it is always a favorite restaurant of mine to eat at. read more

I have seen the Ma Raffa restaurants and the coupons and the parking lots full and after shopping on the way home decided to try it out with my 2 teen daughters. We were greeted by several boarded waitresses; I was surprised at the place, a bit dirty. We were given our menus by a waitress who was, well, grumpy. There was such an array of weird items.....I was not sure what to get. I can see why they have coupons, the prices were quite high. We decided to go for Bruschetta with spinach and tomato for appetizer....I ordered a bowl of minestrone soup, daughters had tortellini with meat sauce and the other an eggplant parm grinder. Ice tea all around. The "bruschetta" came....a cold grinder roll with huge spi nach leaves, slices of under ripe tomato with blemishes and stem....a huge glob of cheese quickly pushed under the broiler.... bruschetta???????really?????we could not eat this......waitress brought the green beans that accompanied the eggplant parm...(really?) at the same time....and all the food was out moments later. The soup was anything but minestrone. It was a leftover concoction of various pastas, not edible. The eggplant was, unappetizing, a grey, wet mess, resembling internal organs. The tortellini was the cheap frozen kind covered in lukewarm meat sauce....heavy on the grease. The waitress offered a refill of iced tea and charged full price for the extra glasses. Do you like food you could get in the frozen section of Stop and Shop? Then Ma Raffas is for you. I usually get the Giovanna pizza (white clam pie) which is decent, but yesterday I got the "fried ravioli" appetizer which literally had no taste. Their salads are amazingly bland. You cannot add anything to the salads to give them taste. Who puts green peppers as the prominent vegetable on a salad? It's really quite astonishing. Ma Raffas is the type of place mouth breathers frequent and call their favorite "Italian" restaurant.
