What makes this even more concerning is that a couple of the issues I've reported are health and safety related, which I believe should be prioritized and addressed promptly. It's frustrating to see such a sharp contrast between how attentive they were before signing the lease versus how unresponsive they've become afterward. If I were a landlord, I would be skeptical about hiring a property management company that struggles to manage and maintain properties effectively or communicate with tenants in a timely manner. The funny thing is, every time we submitted maintenance requests, they ignore us for months. After we have followed up tirelessly, send over technicians to do the bare minimum instead of working on a long-term solution (I'm willing to bet they are paying pennies to these technicians too). We were paying a ridiculous amount for a tiny space with 2 parking spaces. Our roof was leaking and moldy from the rain for months while they ignored our requests for assistance. It doesn't end there. After we moved out to a much better place, they had the audacity to send us a disposition letter not only keeping our security deposit, but requesting an extra $2k from us with no itemized receipts or details about what they plan to use it for. They demanded "$800 for general cleaning due to dust build-up." Wow, I didn't know a duster and some Clorox wipes would cost $800! I knew they are just trying to get any dollars they can out of us. Very shady. TNCR, shame on you for taking advantage of small business owners. For you to be both overpriced and poorly serviced is embarrassing. Pick a struggle. Chris stated that he offered us assistance and a resolution to our financial hardship. That is simply not accurate. The only communication we received was a reminder that rent was due, along with notice of a $56 late fee if payment was not made on time, followed by the statement that after six days we would receive an infraction notice. At no point were we offered an extension, a payment arrangement, or any form of accommodation. Additionally, the unit owner never reached out to us directly to discuss any alternatives or support. During our tenancy, there were serious maintenance concerns that were not addressed in a timely or satisfactory manner. When our apartment experienced flooding and the air conditioning unit was deteriorating, Chris was nowhere to be found. The A/C installation was so poor that you could literally see daylight around the casing. The flooring, which is supposed to be white, appeared black due to the condition, and the state of the oven was unacceptable. We documented everything with photos and videos. My mother, who worked in property management for over 10 years, personally inspected the unit and identified multiple issues that should not exist in a properly maintained rental. There should never be mold present in a water filter--period. We were also told there was a separate heating unit, yet we were left without a functioning heat source while the apartment was extremely cold. This is not just an inconvenience--it is a violation of California housing standards. Under California Code of Regulations, Title 25, Section 34, rental units must be provided with heating facilities capable of maintaining a minimum temperature of 70°F in all habitable rooms, and those systems must be permanently installed and maintained in safe working condition. Portable heaters do not satisfy this legal requirement. We were further told that the overall condition of the property was "not their responsibility," yet our lease binds us to their management, and we were refused contact information for the unit owner when we asked to address these concerns directly. At this point, we are requesting that all communication be handled in writing via email so there is clear documentation. Phone calls are not acceptable. This ensures there is an accurate record of what is said and prevents any misrepresentation of conversations. I will be sharing documentation so others can understand what our experience actually was.
