I must admit, the outside and parking lot leaves a lot to be desired but the inside is a secret garden! So, I am so glad a friend asked us to meet here for lunch yesterday. All food is ordered by a QR code which is fine but again if it's your first time, there's no one even walking around that you can ask questions to. But, let's talk about the main star-the food. I like Korean food, have had the widely known bulgogi, kimchi etc. My eyes were startled to see gimbap on the menu. After watching Extraordinary Attorney Woo on Netflix and becoming obsessed with it, IYKYK; I had to try the gimbap. I loved, loved the shrimp tempura gimbap. It was generous portions so I got to bring some home. And, the six different homemade sauces were delicious too...I tried them all. Definitely I will be back and I loved the ambiance!

Service was friendly, but it seemed like it was just the owners working, so once our food came out, they didn't really have a chance to check in on us much. We ordered a variety of dishes to share family style, which was nice for trying a little bit of everything. That being said, nothing really stood out to me -- everything was just okay, which honestly fits the name pretty well. Overall, if you're craving Korean food and don't have many options nearby, Chosun Ok is worth checking out. But with so many other restaurants I'd like to try, it probably won't be a place I rush back to anytime soon.

There is an ample amount of seating inside (tables and booths) and the service was lovely. Very attentive servers! My friend and I split the Caramelized Kimchi Nachos, Ko'Jangles Fries, and Karaage Bowl. The Ko'Jangles Fries could have used a bit more seasoning, but the side of honey mustard was delicious. As for the Caramelized Kimchi Nachos, they definitely had a kick from the Sriracha sauce. I also did not realize that they would come topped with a bunch of lettuce, so that was a bit much. But the ghost pepper cheese sauce on the side was really taste with the tortilla chips. The Karaage Bowl was probably my favorite dish as the fried chicken was delicious with whatever sauce was on top of it. Again, it had a lot of lettuce on top which I will now know not to include, but the bowl was solid. The roasted nori really brought out a great umami flavor. I think I would definitely focus more on customizing my order next time I am here so that I can fully enjoy my meal. There are plenty of options on the menu that I would not mind trying next time. I would probably rate this place a 3.75/5 stars if I could! The food did not wow me; it was pretty simple but good portions and taste to fill you up.

The sauce in it was SO good, I honestly wish I had ordered more, especially since it was only $4. We also tried oysters for the first time (they were around $1.50-$1.99 during happy hour), and they were surprisingly delicious. We tried a few grilled skewers, shrimp, eggplant, and tofu, which were good, but not my absolute favorites of the night. The best was the egg sando. It might sound simple, but it was incredible, honestly tasted just like the ones I had in Japan, if not better. And the fries?? Perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. My friend is from that area of the world and on her recommendation we tried this new place in downtown Durham. It was terrific, what a find! The restaurant's unique handmade paintings on walls and other Philippino decor was very eclectic and cool. Lol The place was packed and we were walk ins but the owner was at the reception desk and told us to wait and she might be able to find us a table. We were in luck and she directed us to the back room. The server was extremely knowledgeable about all the dishes. Since I had my Philippino friend along she told us what she liked as well as the helpful server. The food was delicious and had a beautiful presentation. What I ate I can't pronounce so look at my pics of the menu ;) I had a bowl w beef filet, onions, tomatoes, cucumber lining the bowl w Jasmine rice and a fried egg on top. My friend had oxtail and the other had an appetizer of Lumplang Shanghai and entre of Pancit Behon, all food was extraordinary and large portions. No doubt that was why the place was packed! I was good with that because the food was delicious and such good value. Shared 3 dishes between 3 people: seafood stew, ddeokboki, and spicy LA galbi. Loved all of the dishes, all delicious with substantial quantity and amount of veggies. Perhaps what stood out the most was the ddeokboki since that's the best value dish I've ever seen at any restaurant--large in quantity that doesn't shy away in the amount of mix-ins (fishcake, cabbage, green onions, etc). Definitely will be keeping this place in mind for the next time I'm in the area.

While the selection is limited, especially if you're looking for hard to find fresh produce, the restaurant has you covered for standard Asian products. Our go-to (only order) is the Korean fried chicken. The restaurant serves a whole cut-up chicken for approximately $20. If you've not experienced Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) previously, you're in for a treat. We typically order plain, as we've found (KFC) can veer too sweet for our palate - but we are definitely in the minority. The crunch factor is hard to beat. On this particular occasion we mixed, original with a flavored option. I love original/plain but did find the plain to be under seasoned and the chicken weirdly cut up. At any rate, it was still delicious and would recommend. We've tried KFC prior and would order here again, but there is a chain restaurant on radar. KFC: 3.8
