What I appreciate most is that they let the tea shine rather than masking it with excessive sweetness or artificial flavors. The texture is smooth, creamy, not overly sweet, and made in-house with high quality ingredients you can taste. after 14,000+ steps around toronto, i feel there are certain things a person is legally entitled…read moreto, and gelato is apparently one of them. preferably two flavours, because apparently i also have no self control when faced with a flavour decision. i originally came in planning to keep things simple with a small and one flavour. then i got caught between the black sesame and lychee, because choosing between two completely different flavours is harder than walking 14,000 steps. the server suggested going up to a medium for just $1 more, which meant i could get both. so, naturally, i made the financially responsible decision to spend the extra dollar. and i'm glad i did. the black sesame was nutty, roasty and slightly bitter, with that deep toasted flavour that makes black sesame so good in gelato. the lychee went in the completely opposite direction, bright, floral and fruity, with a light, refreshing sweetness. the lychee was also vegan, which is a nice option to have. together, they made a surprisingly great pairing. rather than choosing two flavours that were both intensely sweet, i got a nice contrast between the deeper, earthier black sesame and the fragrant fruitiness of the lychee. each flavour stood on its own, but they also worked really well together. mizzica gelataria and cafe is a fun little stop when you're looking for something cold and sweet while exploring the city. they have a good variety of gelato flavours, including vegan options, and being able to sample up to two flavours makes the line move faster . the staff were friendly and helpful, and i appreciated the suggestion to size up so i could try both flavours rather than having to choose between them. sometimes the best $1 spent is the dollar that prevents you from wondering, "but what if i had gotten the other one?" after 14,000+ steps, i consider this less of a dessert and more of a well earned recovery strategy. and yes, i would absolutely make the same financially responsible decision again.

The portion size was perfect for us and I like the little vanilla waffle cracker they added on top. The space inside had a couple tables to eat at, but it was packed once we got our gelato. There wasn't a single empty table in sight so we just walked outside and ate it there. There's a reason why there is always a line at this place and it's not hard to see why. It really feels like an old school toned down version of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. One thing that is very enticing about Zack's is that they offer an array of soft serve ice cream flavours. They offer your typical chocolate, vanilla and more interesting ones like blueberry cheesecake, lemon, etc. My review is solely based on a chocolate and vanilla swirl ice cream that I had there. It was really tempting to get some of the different flavours but as they claimed to be a chocolatier I opted for a very conservative chocolate swirl. The verdict? It's a solid soft serve ice cream... at $3. Probably not price competitive with the big boys. I would say it's a teeny tiny bit less creamy than the McDonald's or Costco soft serve. But given the place being a chocolatier but the soft serve not any more chocolatety than other places, it's a bit disappointing. If I'm in the area I would not be opposed to trying some of their chocolate treats but I would not go out of the way to head to Zack's unless you have some nostalgic attachment to this place.

We had a 2-scoop cone: Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Pralines & Cream. Both scoops were creamy and tasty. My son really loved them but I did manage to get a little bit of both flavours. There is some savoury food served too like hot dogs, fries, poutine, and coffees. It is owned by a husband and wife team: George and Irene. Both are very pleasant people. They love having fun signs such as: "adults must be accompanied by children" and "children left unattended in this store will be sold to the circus". You can only pay by cash or e-transfer. There is no phone number because I can see they are extremely busy. You can still contact them via social media. There are picnic tables outside. During pandemic times, all staff and customers wear face masks and there is plexiglass used. Only one family is allowed in the small order area at a time. Just outside the entrance, you can be entertained by a famous saxaphone player, Orlando (a Cuban), during nice the afternoons. The ice cream sold here is Kawartha Dairy, so that bit is pretty standard. But the servings are pretty big & a single is only $3 and a double $4, including tax. So it's cheaper than going to a Kawartha outlet They only accept cash & etransfer. The guy is pretty friendly, though there were some ice crystals in the ice cream.
