This is a beautiful winery with some great quality wine. It's one of the few wineries that have sparkling wine, and it's some of the best. We stopped by on a Wednesday in mid September. No crowds and they were harvesting the grapes. We were directed to one side of the building to watch the harvesting of the grapes. We were then taken to the second floor where we could see them dump the grapes into the machine that removed the stems and sent the grapes into the press and then into a vat. The staff was very helpful. We purchased a bottle of their Pinot Noir Reserve which was very good. Ohio isn't just about white wines anymore. If you're in the area stop by. I live in Northern California wine country and came back for a visit with my parents. I have noticed Ohio wine increasing in quality over the years, but this place blew me away. The wines were very interesting and varied (we loved the Noiret and R-Kat), the service was excellent and the staff was knowledgeable and passionate about the wines on offer, and the small plates we got were good too! We had a small group get together here on a Sunday afternoon and had a great time! There is a large open-space room attached to the main tasting room that was light and spacious. Tasting was okay, but not a great experience overall. We spent an hour or so on Saturday tasting wine, had some food and a couple of glasses of wine, and bought 6 bottles. When we went to check out, the guy who had helped us figured up our tab on their system, turned the screen around and our total was $253. It was $30-40 more than I was expecting, but my wife just swiped our card and didn't sweat it. On Monday, we looked at the receipt, and the total included a $33 tip. The tip option never came up when we paid (we would have tipped something, but certainly not $33 for what was mostly a retail purchase). I called today, and the guy who answered the phone couldn't possibly have cared less. He went from "I didn't work Saturday, so I don't know anything" to "Well, you must have pushed the tip button when you checked out". He never offered to check on it or have someone call me back. After several minutes of getting a runaround, I said "Well, there are plenty of wineries in the area, I guess I'll just visit others in the future". His response was "Okay, that's your call". We're new to the area, and like to have a nice wine selection at home. I'd think we're just the type of customer that a winery would want to treat well. It looks like there are a couple dozen wineries in the GRV area. We will stick with the ones that don't scam customers and who care if there is a problem. We had the best time on our tour here. Our guide, Chris, was so informative, kind, and made us feel so welcome. The wine was incredible and so were the appetizers (very big portions). I would 100% recommend this as a stop to grab a glass on the patio or to do the tour. We love this winery. We had just went to the yuletide event at Markko vineyard and what a day.. we decided to head to M Cellars. Arnie and Matt both bare the vinifera torch for north east Ohio. Trying to grow European grapes in difficult conditions. Wonderful estate wines love the guy who spent time going over our wine tastings and sharing his knowledge. This is a boutique winery that's a fabulous newer addition to the Geneva winery circuit. That being said, quit whining, hipsters! It's going to be more expensive than the others, that's the point! They focus on quality, hand-crafted, artisan cool-climate wines. And they discourage those irritating party buses on premise, so you can actually enjoy your visit! M Cellars had a great selection of whites and reds. I tried every single wine they had to offer, all of which were great. The Gruner Veltliner, Meritage and Reserve Meritage really stood out for me, however. The bar servers were on point, friendly and informative. They had a large self-serve spigot of ice cold water at the end of the bar. Nice touch, because I hate bothering the staff for just ice water, when they are slammed on a busy Saturday night. (If only more of your neighbors were hip to this idea!!!) The atmosphere is laid back, yet elegant in it's own right. The overall layout is well thought out and the acoustics aren't offensive when the bar is packed. And the upstairs dining area is just breath-taking!!! Well done, guys! Had no intentions of buying when we stopped but walked out with two cases of wine. They offer a great wine membership that we could pass up. My wife and I attempted to hit several wineries in the area in two days. We didn't spend much time here, we only wanted to try a few and move on. But I have to say, this place is beautiful. I felt underdressed in shorts and a polo. The indoors is nice hardwood and everything looks brand new. The deck out back overlooks the vineyard and had a live musician on this Fall Saturday night. Unfortunately, my wife and I didn't like any of their wines, except for one. Their prices are a bit steep (compared to others in the area) so that prevented us from buying a bottle. Let's face it, there is a lot of competition down the street. With all of that said, if you want someplace fancier than your average winery, you want to impress someone, and/or you want dry red wine, this may be your place. Do yourself a favor and stop by M Cellars for a relaxing afternoon tasting some great local Ohio wines. M Cellars is doing it right. Their wines are top notch and don't taste like any other Ohio made wines we've had. They're not nearly as sweet as most of the other wine producers in the region are making. M Cellars wines honestly taste more like a wine coming out of a more traditional wine producing region such as the Finger Lakes. I'm always impressed with the quality of their red wines, particularly their Meritage and Noriet. The tasting room at M Cellars is beautiful with a huge fireplace that is great for cold winter afternoons and an expansive patio overlooking the vineyard that makes for a beautiful spring, summer, or fall afternoon. They often have live music and have some nice food options if you're craving a small bite to eat to enjoy with your wine. Additionally, their Wine Club is excellent. We always feel like we're getting a great deal when we purchase a case from M Cellars. Be on the lookout for their education series. We recently attended the Meritage Experience which was well thought out, educational, and so much fun. I wouldn't hesitate to go to another educational workshop- it's a great way to learn about the wine you're enjoying. read more

Loved being able to sit right next to the vineyards. A lot of room to mingle with a large group. My friends were chugging wine like it was liquid gold. Horrible decision in the long run, but totally worth it at the moment. The staff was friendly and actually sparked up a conversation each time a customer is at the counter. Most wineries pour you a glass and on to the next they go. If you're coming with a swarm of people don't bank on getting a table. People love this place and it shows when you pull in to park. Beautiful winery, welcoming and non pretentious staff, good wine. They on occasion have a food truck and live entertainment. The Reserve Chardonnay was wonderful with nice vanilla notes. The restrooms are clean. We've also attended one of their food pairing dinners here where they bring in a chef and it was fabulous. Someone had told my friend that Geneva on The Lake was similar to Sonoma, so I was hired by my friends to verify this claim. I came from Pittsburgh with suspect expectations, but honestly -- this place blew me out of the water. I've taken a handful of trips to wineries in Napa, Sonoma, Germany, and South Africa, tasted 1000s of wine -- and this particular winery was extremely, extremely solid for Cooler climate Pinots and Cab Francs. I'm not a white wine drinker, but they have very solid whites. An amazing quick get- away for any Pittsburgh or Cleveland resident with lodges feels to boot. I know that tastes in wine are a personal thing and subjective. In my opinion, this winery has the best tasting selection of Ohio wine I have yet to taste. Period. I have not been a big fan of Ohio wines in the past. The story of this vineyard: removing the original vines, changing the soil and vines to allow grapes not native to the area to be grown shows the dedication of the winery to produce wines that are unique and high quality. Prices are reasonable to high. I did not sample the food selections. The fireplace was a nice feature on a cold winter day. The best winery in Ashtabula County. (Or maybe in Ohio?) Amazing ambiance, a fireplace for winter and a deck overlooking the vineyard for the Spring. They host occasional farm-to-table suppers which should not be missed. The Cabernet-Merlot is among the best I have ever tasted. The dry rose is amazing.
