In order to qualify for the lowest rates, I had to apply for a checking account at one of their branches. This branch was closest to my home, so I opened my account here. At the time, this bank was offering interest rates of 1% whereas my other bank was paying me 1/10 of one percent. As a result, I opened an additional checking account and moved most of my money to Columbia. I have found the tellers to be friendly and competant. The hours are decent although not as customer friendly as the hours at TD Bank. The branch has free coffee in the lobby and the desk personnel that I have dealt with have been competant and friendly. All in all, I'm very happy with this branch of Columbia Bank of NJ.

This location being closest to my work place in Parsippany I decided to stroll in to utilize one of their promotions which offered $200 for a new account opened that maintains a certain balance. Service while I was there was pretty straightforward, it was a slow weekday morning and I was attended to right away. The banker was a bit pushy as she kept asking me if I wanted to apply for a different kind of checking account and credit card than the one I originally intended to. My experience at the bank wasn't so bad - I had all my questions answered and the process of opening up the account was pretty straight forward. My problem was post leaving this branch. I reached out to the banker many times via email and left voicemails to never receive any kind of response and it has been about a month now. I had issues with my direct deposit and had questions about my account that I needed answered as I am moving across country at the end of this month. Unless you have the flexibility to physically stop into a chase location to resolve your problems, don't expect a professional level of customer service.

In NYC, they would usually say that this requires me to step into the actual branch so that they can look up the information, blah blah blah. Not this branch though - asked me some security questions and once cleared, told me my paper would be ready for me to pick up within 5 minutes. I intended to go during lunchtime instead so a few hours later, I drive on over and within a minute, I am back out that door. Thank you for making my life convenient!

I went over my purchase limit that is all . I had to contact wells through my mobile app and they told me I should have no problems, whatever they had told me was completely false information, and they even sent me to a couple different locations where I have not had a problem since ! I was in and out within 10 minutes!!! It seems only this location has a manager who does whatever she pleases LOL . I canceled my card and ordered a new one after this experience. Be careful of who you give your information to. I will be switching banks asap . I have never been this frustrated with my own bank before . of course this was done for the fun of it and the fact they will never deal with me again . I have filed a complaint against this location as well as its workers . the manger specifically was some old lady who stared me down the entire time I was there she was judging me and talking under her breath with the lady who took my personal information to the back . I observed an loud and demeaning Office Manager dismiss him as she pointed her finger and informed him to go in the back of the line and refused to answer his quick question. I wondered, if this was her grandfather, would she have addressed him in that manner? A total lack of respect for our elderly! Also, I wanted to open a new CD and had a check to deposit, I waited on line and informed the teller and she again with pointing her finger informed me to go and sit down. Really! So I waited again and afterwards with the same Office Manager, informed me to open up a CD, I would have to do it online. So, I was rudely misinformed by the teller to sit, wait again and wasted more of my time. You call these people customer service? Really? What a total lack of respect for others.

Hard to review a bank but I'll offer a few general assessments and thoughts…read more 1. They are not adapting well to new technology. As part of the high interest account I signed up for I was required to sign for online statements. The website button you had to click to sign up didn't work. When I called a branch they were pretty clueless. Issue was finally resolved but it took a long time. They don't embrace messaging via the website like so many other banks have. Instead they ask you to call or come in person. 2. Not customer oriented. I had an issue related to fraudulent transactions which they didn't accommodate my desire to do it via electronic means rather than the hassle of a trip. I was given the wrong form to complete and again staff didn't seem knowledgeable about the process. A lot of "I don't know the answer- I have to ask someone". Also when I signed up for my account at the branch process took much longer than other local banks I've signed up with. 3. Inconvenient branches. I live in Netcong (the heart of their home base) about 20 minutes to the closest branch. I only anticipated going to a branch once for signup so distance wasnt a big deal. But when you have to go into a branch (see above) and all their branches are in more rural areas (i.e. you can't hit them on the way to other errands) it's a pain in the neck. Again their mentality seems to be they want to remain a brick and mortar bank and only embrace online banking as much as they have to. They might play well with some older folks but not the younger generation of bank customers. If you're looking to get a high yield interest account ($10k limit) it might be worth it to to get an account. Anything else I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. By comparison another local bank, Provident, does things so much better. More frustration with this bank than all my other banks (BoA, Wells Fargo, Provident) combined.
