I've been with this bank for about 20 years. I opened my business accounts because they had a low ($500) monthly minimum to avoid fees. They recently updated their minimum to $1500 without letting anyone know and I've been getting charged service fees without warning. Like most other people, my experience trying to rollover an IRA was awful. The departments at Valley speak different languages and Fidelity even noted how difficult the process became. Stay away! I called to reset my password, and answered about 6 questions correctly. The customer service person Judy said she had to ask one more... again, 100% correct and then proceeded to tell me that she had to ask too many questions so she would not reset my password. Her supervisor Rosalyn said that she was going by protocol. They would not tell me which question they thought I got wrong. this is most difficult banking institution I have ever encountered. they were referred to me by Guardian Life several times years ago because their Interst rates were lower than policy loan rates although the policy cash values were used as collateral. really a good deal for Valley as they no exposure what so ever. as interest rates changed we found they became a littlest competitive and we wanted to cancel our accounts as they were paid off. they have made this process intolerabl. almost making it impossible they should be reported to the banking commissioner and no one should ever consider useing them for anything. . read more

They charge a crazy amount of money to pay your bill online. Then when it's paid off and you call them and ask to send you a pay off letter to your email they tell you they will call you back and then they don't call back. So you don't get the letter. Not helpful at all! read more

They obviously don't care if they lose customers. Now I just found out the checks I thought the teller ordered for me on 4/8 were never ordered. My Company uses Valley as one of our banks commercially. Customer service is the worst I have ever seen. If I get a response it is useless. After taking part in a Zoom call to rectify an issue, the Account Manager told me he was not the person who could assist. He never bothered to include the correct people on the call. A complete waste of my time. Online data is a full day behind. Daily balances are always incorrect. If I were the decision maker at my Company, I would close our accounts ASAP. This bank is terrible. I did not choose them for my auto loan the dealership did and they have been very deceptive with their practices and I think it is possibly illegal what they are doing with their auto loans. The put a cap on how much you can make as an electronic payment to the loan. If you make a large payment one month before you normal due date then you reach your monthly maximum that you can pay and your normal monthly autopay will not go through. Then they assess late fees which cannot be payed by making a payment on the account. You have to call them and pay these fees directly by saying you want to pay late fees. So the next month when you make a larger payment to pay these fees that should never have been assessed, it still does not pay the late fee and your next payment is considered late. When I called and finally got someone on the phone this person apologized and said they would have the fees waived and that they could not send me confirmation, but that I would know when I received my next bill. Well the next bill came and it has another late fee on it despite having paid my normal payment as well as a large additional payment this month. I try and call again to talk to someone and the estimated wait time is 30 mins. Do not bank with these people they do everything they can to assess fees and not allow you to pay them. read more

Worst customer service. I'm notifying the CEO. The bank has had a long history that out of no where they decide to judge that there's a problem with the acct without any real substantial evidence and put a freeze on all payments deducted by vendors I deal with including blocking me from ATM withdrawals. There's no answer to any of the emails I send. No notice to me as a customer that they're stopping all my payments and ATM privileges. My Steve and I moved from New Jersey to Richmond Virginia on August 29th 2024. We just now received the cashier's checks for our accounts today February 13 2025. It five and one half months. I advise anyone in New Jersey don't put your money in this bank because if you ever move out of state getting your money out will be like getting it out of the iron jaws of Goliath. In August before we moved I said to one of the accounts people working there, how do my Steve and I get our money to take with us when we move. I was told WIt till you get there. She then proceeded to write a list of instructions for how to write request letters and handed it to Steve. We got to Richmond and the accounts manager and the manager were kind. They transferred money from Steve's accounts into mine. Then we got a phone call one day telling us they couldn't do it anymore they could lose their jobs. So we lived on money I had brought with me. Then Steve spoke to the manager who said her boss said she could transfer sixteen hundred dollars into my account from Steve's. Well when that was gone we had practically nothing to live on and were scrambling to get groceries. We did everything asked of us. We scanned a color copy of my Steve's photo ID. We wrote the letters. Then we got a call from Valley. The accounts manager said we had to re do the letters they didn't have all the necessary information. They couldn't send our cashier's checks without them. So off to the library again. I typed and printed copies of the revised letters and a kind reference librarian notarized them. Steve spent six dollars to certify mail them. Then I get an email from the manager telling me a different story about the letters. She said she got Steve's letter and not mine so she was closing his accounts. So Steve's original letter must have been written correctly or the manager wouldn't have closed his accounts. If the letters were so important why were our accounts closed before they arrived at the bank. My account was closed before the revised letters got to Valley Bank. Our letters got to Valley Bank on Monday February 10th and our cashier's checks weren't sent UPS until Wednesday February 12th. The manager and accounts manager promised to call us when our letters arrived and they never did. When Steve called Valley on Tuesday February 11 the manager reamed him out yelled at him. Just because he contacted customer care. This is one Valley you don't want to walk through. I will say that most of the bank employees there are nice people. From my Steve Why didn't the person Jackie and spoke to, give us our cashier's checks before we left New Jersey and closed the accounts then. It's standard procedure. I will give Valley Customer Care five stars. A wonderful customer service rep tried to get me into Zelle so I could transfer money from Steve's accounts into mine We couldn't do it because the Valley App wouldn't accept the password. So employees at our new bank in Richmond were going to help me get Zelle. But then we found out that our accounts had been closed before the affore mentioned letters got to Valley Bank. Before we knew this the wonderful customer service rep suggested a wire transfer.Our new bank was on board. But when my Steve contacted Valley he was told We don't do wire transfers we need a signature . It's twenty twenty five. Everyone does wire transfers. read more

Just a warning, if you use Valley Bank for your car loan, they will keep taking money out of your account even if it's closed! I finally paid off my car December 26th and they have taken payments out of my account twice in January. They claim that I am responsible for stopping recurring payments even if the account is closed and they keep giving me the runaround that they can't stop the recurring payments themselves which makes absolutely no sense at all. They keep telling me they have contacted their "financial team" and won't actually tell me when I will be getting my money. Their customer service team is a bunch of incompetent idiots who will tell you their "computers are having a glitch" because they can't just admit that they screwed up. What a joke of a bank--particularly if you are looking for an online experience. My own experience: I opened a CD online and had an ACH transfer made to fund it. Then, even though they advertise as an online bank, I found out that there is no way to withdraw that (i.e. my) money and the interest by ACH transfer when the CD matured. The principal and interest from a CD automatically is put into a new CD unless you go into the bank (took me an hour including driving time), and sign a letter authorizing them to mail me a check with the principal and interest and close the account. (There is no way to authorize the closing of the CD online. I tried calling twice on this. The first time, when I first discovered that the CD automatically renewed, they told me I had to go into a branch to get my money. The second time, a couple of weeks before maturity, I was cut off while waiting for the person I was talking to get back to me after putting me on hold.) Simply put, online banking, which they advertise they have, should be online both ways--money in and money out. Customer service is more than a smile, or thank you and "you are a valuable customer" while you are on a long telephone hold. It is making things easier for your customer and, for example, not trying to make it so difficult to get your money that you leave it at that bank in a CD that you don't really want. read more

I hope this review shows up with zero stars. I would hate to have to give them even one as that state "not good". Deplorable is more like it. I was forced to use Valley for a Car Loan when I bought out my lease. I was not pleased then and I am even less pleased now. I paid my car off 7 weeks ago., over year early. I have yet to receive the Lien Release or a Title. My credit report says the loan is paid off. I have nothing to prove that I own this car. I have spent hours on hold before getting to a supposed CS person who cannot seem to help. Average wait time for an inept CS person 45 minutes. Then you begin the conversation. I also emailed several times only to be advised to call the 800 number. The they say I was told the paperwork was sent March 9th, then I was told March 11th. I was then told on April 14th that a request was in to have the paperwork sent again. April 16th paperwork on its way. April 25th ..said they don't why anyone told me that ( I have the voicemail) because I cant have the Title because it was already sent by a third party and if I needed another Lien Release that has to be done in writing. Said they have proof it was sent. How ? It wasn't sent registered or Certified. Where to write they do not know. Given an email address zero response. Need a Title..go to DMV they say without proof of owning the car. WTF?? Its 2025 this shouldn't be so hard. I have spent countless hours trying to get this info to no avail. I had a horrible time with this bank 20 years ago. I see nothing has changed. Absolutely shameful and deceitful business practices. It is just endless the amount of deceit and ineptness. . read more

SCAM ALERT! Receiving phone calls from 800 522 4100 claiming there has been a wire attempt from my account. I do not have an account. They give you the name of the perp and tell you they will FaceTime you within minutes. Do not answer calls and if you do tell them they have the wrong number. read more

My husband and I had Zelle issues with this bank, we tried speaking to different customer service reps about this we been getting Fees charges for this, I spoke with 3 different people about this and although it took them more than a month to resolve the issue they were nice polite and most importantly they listened to customers but this last one I just got off the phone with her name is Renee, she would not listen, I tried to explain to her that I was calling about the last few that got charged to my account because of the Zelle issue which was recently resolved. She kept on saying that she is not allowed to discuss Zelle with me, I had to repeat myself several times to make her understand that I need to know it's already resolved. I need the fee refunded to my account, now she is saying that her manager needs to listened to the previous recorded conversation I had with the previous rep just to see if the rep discussed the fees agreement with me. Nonsense! The previous reps were polite and showed concern and the willingness to help, this last rep Renee would not even let me finish explaining my concerns. I will report them, they shouldn't be charging fees just to charge, they should train their people better if they can't help at least listen to what the customer have to say. There are not enough negative adjectives to describe Valley Bank. I started banking with them in 1982. I have remained a loyal customer for all these years. On December 29, 2023, $500.00 was deducted from my checking account via Zelle without my knowledge. It went to a person that I never heard of in the country of Nigeria! I contacted Valley Bank at least 20 times on the 800 # and 5 times, in person, to the branch in Ocean, NJ. My checking account was locked during this time and still is today while Security did an investigation. I had to drive 30 minutes each way in order to withdraw any money from my account because my account was locked. It took hours at the bank in order to get security to temporarily unlock my account. I was assured each time that the problem would be corrected & the money would be returned into my account. After speaking with Touran Clayton, the VP of Marketing (?), this morning, I was advised that I would be responsible for this fraudulent transaction. She claimed that Valley Bank & Zelle investigated and concluded the transaction came from my IP address. When I asked for some type of documentation, she said that was not possible. At 69 years old and widow on a fixed income, this $500 is a painful loss. What has happened to the meaning of customer service? read more

The customer service members are rude and talk over you not letting you talk..... ever. Every question they answer with can I put you a brief hold. ITS NOT BRIEF - they also never get back to you even though they promise to look into their errors and notify you - NEVER REACHED OUT. I was on the phone for 51 minutes trying to get a account balance on my home equity line of credit. An approximate number was good enough for me I had a Jose at extension 1127 and then a Ken Johnson at extension 1232 both asking personal questions which was unwarranted. They had my social my last payment my address and kept me on hold gathering more information and finally refused to give me an account balance. Ridiculous aggravating and inept I would recommend avoiding this bank at all costs If I can give them neg stars I would read more

This bank was the original lien holder. We refinanced couple months later. New bank paid them off and valley National continued to hold a lien on the car 5 years after being paid off. They then said they had no record of the account. Manger was rude and disrespectful. read more

Sad that this once-decent bank has fallen so far down. They're as understaffed and as bad as the others. They cut off my ATM cards without reason and without notice. Wait times on the 800# were up to 30 minutes, so I went to my branch. They could not explain what happened. My choices were to wait 7 days for new cards to be mailed, then come in and set new PINs, or to drive to an inconvenient branch that has a card-making machine. Why don't all branches have these machines? Valley is happy to waste a customer's time, on a problem that they created and that they can't even explain. read more
