After sending photos and doing some phone troubleshooting, we were told we needed a part--and that we'd be lucky if it was fixed before Christmas. Then came a video call with Jason from the DMV area, from ABDB Home Services, who patiently walked us through the process. As it turned out, all it needed was a simple cleaning of a clogged duct--something we could do ourselves. And just like that, it works! We're beyond grateful for the kindness, expertise, and perfect timing. Warmth restored just in time for Christmas!

However, my recent experience has been very disappointing. Back in July, I contacted their office to schedule inspections for 40+ chimneys. I was told someone would call me back. After waiting, I followed up again in August and received the same response--that I would get a call back. Only today, after months of waiting, did someone finally reach out, just to tell me that it's now too late in the season and they can only book me for the off-season in 2026. After more than a decade of great service, this lack of follow-through and responsiveness has been frustrating and surprising. After servicing it, they failed to put the logs back correctly and left the flue closed. Within hours, soot blew throughout our entire house. Black soot covered walls, ceilings, upholstery, linens, and furniture in nearly every room. The damage was catastrophic. We had to go through our homeowners insurance because the cleanup costs exceeded $60,000. The restoration required professional soot remediation, sealing and repainting walls, cleaning all upholstery and fabrics, and extensive cleaning throughout the entire home. What made this even worse was the company's response afterward. They would not provide the business owner's information or their business insurance information, and they took absolutely no responsibility for the damage caused by their work. We were left to handle the nightmare ourselves.

I have not used my fireplace in 15+ years that said, due to new homeowner insurance I was required to have my chimney repaired i.e. missing bricks and cracked crown. I started the process of getting estimates from Chimney repair/sweep companies within an hour from my home. I contacted 5 different companies, 3 companies estimates were comparable in price but not the extent of repair, warranty on their work, reviews from customers, BBB accredited or even MHIC licensed. The other two companies were more than 2K above the first 3 estimates and were pushy for the work. Alex, from New City Chimney went above and beyond explaining the work he would do and why it was needed. His written estimate clearly spelled out the work including his company warranty. He even worked hard to match the existing bricks (antique oversized bricks from Baltimore) in keeping with my fireplace. The work was completed in 2 days on the specified days and times. I even had Alex do an additional repair needed for homeowner and that says a lot! The Chimney looks clean and I know my homeowners will approve of the work. Because I was new to chimneys I had a second inspection done. Everything Winston found was accurate. There was no upsell or exaggeration. They provided thorough photographs and explanations of everything they found. Their pricing was competitive with other quotes in the area (and better than one or two popular companies whose name I won't mention but whose quotes were unjustifiably higher). We ended up using a different company for the work but that was mostly because they had availability a little sooner and a comparable quote; it was not a reflection at all on Winston. If I ever broke up with my current company Winston would likely be my first call.
