I do not have a problem with the food and Berna is an excellent waitress. However, the owner and regulars at the bar make it known they do not want anyone there that does not watch fox news. We had lunch here yesterday and will not be back. I have eaten here in the past and it was very good but yesterday the service was terrible and the food mediocre at best. We were with friends that said this was their second bad experience. M&M's used to be a small cafe with good food and a friendly ambience, that was not our experience yesterday. read more

My Salad with added Seafood was Good. My Relatives were disappointed in their tuna steak and the portion of the salad was to small for another. The carrot cake was delicious. The waitress was so inexperienced it made my suggestion of this restaurant not a good choice. read more

I wanted to like this place, because the bed and breakfast we stayed at suggested it. The restaurant is cute and in a great location, but the food was sub par. I had one of the worst steaks I've had in a long time. The steak was bland and tasted as it had been cooked in a skillet, with no spices. I will not be going back to this establishment. read more

Went to M&M's for Father's day brunch, and we were on the late side...Got there around 11:30 and brunch is over at 12... I had a poached egg on an English Muffin that was cooked perfectly, and some bacon that was fine...But the rest of the food was not good. The sausage was all dried out, and the potatoes were..well...just awful. Biscuits looked good but were not, according to my sister. I think she said they were dry. Or maybe salty? One or the other! The buffet was not expensive at all..around $10 including a drink, but I hope management reads this and just checks/tastes their food a little more often! Personally I would have much preferred to pay more for better, fresher food, but I know (really I do, I do a buffet once a month on Sundays, myself!) that it can be a challenge to keep it all stocked and fresh. We ate on the deck last Friday evening, and we enjoyed everything our table ordered. We had multiple steamed clams, steamed shrimp, sautéed shrimp burger, clam and rainbow trout entrée, and black bean quesadillas'. Our waitress was attentive and the prices were reasonable. We had a very sub-standard meal at this restaurant. I had the sauteed shrimp which were very boring -- could have used some garlic. The meal came with boiled red potatoes. It was only by the time that I was done with my meal that I realized that the server had given my husband the butter that went with the potatoes. My husband's meal was good: fish and chips. The fish was very fresh. My son (age 5) had an appetizer for a meal: bar burgers. No thought was given to this dish. The bread was dry and the burgers too small and over-fried. Our son is not too discriminating, so he didn't mind. My daughter (age 7) had chicken strips which she liked well enough. Dessert was good -- perhaps the highlight of the meal. We had peanut butter shudder, key lime and apple pie. The true downside to this restaurant is that it is run by college students. They do their best but could obviously use some help managing the volume of orders. Our table was very close to the kitchen and servers tended to congregate near the kitchen entrance instead of being on the floor seeing to their tables. Another dark mark for this restaurant was the rude person sitting next to us. The restaurant is very loud as it is also a bar. While we were there the bar was full and very loud. This person turned to us with a smile and asked if we could keep our children quiet. Perhaps if our meal had been brought out more quickly would have had a better chance of keeping them quiet. However, compared to the nearby bar-full of drunks, our children were quiet. read more

If you thought your grandmother's pecan pie was the best in the world, you have not tried Mmmmm & Mmmmmms!!! My husband and I split their deep dish pie with ice cream and whipped cream on the side and apologized to his ancestors for swearing that DELICIOUS pie was the best we ever had. There are pecan trees all over town so I don't know if there is a long history of delectable pies in Oriental, but be sure to save room! read more

Good food, friendly staff and reasonably priced makes for a solid restaurant any time. The fish and chips are fresh and lightly battered and the crab cakes are very good - lots of crab and not much filler. Very poor service and mediocre food. After waiting at least 15 just for the waitress to first come by, we ordered both our food and drinks at the same time. It took us 20 minutes just to get our drinks. Apparently, the owner came up to us and asked us if we had ordered our drinks we said yes. He then walked away and did not help his overwhelmed wait staff. I later saw him sitting at the bar when I went to the restroom. A real leader would be helping out his team. It probably took 30 to get our food. My soft shell crab sandwich was incredibly small and was overwhelmed by the size of the bun. I would estimate it was roughly 3 to 4 ounces. I would be embarrassed to serve this to a guest. I sampled my wife's shrimp and it was decent. I asked for the check twice and finally had to go to the register where our waitress was ringing out another customer. She offered many excuses but never apologized. It has been many many years since I left no tip. This is your warning to look elsewhere. read more

The food is pretty good here most of the time, and the place seems to always be busy. I have eaten here at least five times in the past two years, and found the staff to be rude at least four of those times. I expect more, especially for the price. read more

Too bad this is one of the few restaurants in Oriental. Thought we would get a good meal - very disappointed! The 3 tables around us all ordered after us and got their salads before us. Finally our salads were served but just moments later so were our entrees! Since we wanted to enjoy our salads, we asked the waitress to take our orders back and wait until we were done with our salads. Her comment: but they'll get cold! Guess we should have set our salads aside! When the main dish did come back, my husbands rare steak was well done and his baked potato was so cold the butter wouldn't even soften, let alone melt. My shrimp was cold but edible and since I was hungry I ate it; the Brussels sprouts however were complete mush. When we complained to the manager - her response? Took my husband's entrée off the tab, but charged him $3.50 for the salad (since he ate it) and only gave me a $2 credit for the Brussels sprouts (both were sides and should have the same base cost!) His meal was inedible as was part of mine... guess we should know better then to try and get anything decent in Oriental. read more

My wife and I had dinner on a recent visit to Oriental. The staff was courteous and friendly. The food portions were large and well presented. Food was very good. We had the corn crab chowder and shrimp and grits (recommended by the locals). It was excellant. Apple pie was home made, and a must. only thing I did not care for was the waitress vacuming around nearby tables while trying to enjoy time with my wife. Recommend a sweeper broom during business hours. read more

What happened to M&M's Cafe?! Used to be a great spot to eat but sadly the standards has changed. My most recent visit there ordered the calamari, had bad frozen breaded version like any other in the grocery store. Breading falling off & bottled marinara sauce is what we got. This seems to be most of the food now! Good as Sam's Club frozen section has to offer from the appetizers to the desserts. Beverage was good & my cell phone worked so while eating I ordered a pizza from the Silo's to take home for supper. read more

I eat here periodically, but have learned to avoid the sandwiches. If you want something toasted, stress the "toasted" part. Some things seem prepared ahead, and food doesn't always show up very hot from the world's tiniest kitchen. Specials change all the time, and it would help to have a daily, printed menu. The wait-staff is friendly, but could benefit from professional training--true of most restaurants in Oriental. Patrons are friendly, mostly local, and everyone seems to know your name, which is actually a pretty cool thing. read more

I visited Oriental on a photo assignment earlier this week and it was recommended that I eat at M&M's for dinner. Not sure if it was just because I was starving at the end of a long day but I had the crab corn chowder (on the specials menu) and scallop sandwich and both were DELICIOUS. The crab corn chowder was spicy and fresh tasting and the scallops were so fresh I almost popped them all in my mouth before even picking up the sandwich. I also really enjoyed being able to sit outside in their screened in porch. I would definitely eat here again. read more

Always a good meal! Our family favorites are the Seafood (Shrimp and Scallops) pasta, the crab (or salmon) cakes and Rack of Lamb. We especially love taking out meals for group gatherings at home. Solid all around. Monday is sushi night (and it's surprisingly good). I haven't tried everything on the menu, but everything I've seen come out of the kitchen looks delicious. This restaurant used to be a favorite of ours but lately we have had too many meals where the quality of the food has been "ify". Last week we visited and one person in the party had the grilled tuna sandwich which was fine. I had the "blues burger" which was awful. The burger seemed as if it had been precooked and was cool on arrival...it was the opposite of "tasty". It had a blue cheese spread on top which did not melt...it was very un-appetizing. Over the years I have learned to stay away from certain items on the menu but now I am wondering if the owner is cutting back overall because of what we have experinced. I hope they work on the food quality and the service. This place is an institution in Oriental and deserves a better. read more

Went here for lunch, I had 1/2 garden salad and hubby had chicken quesadillas. The salad was your basic salad, no surprises and was fresh. Hubby said the quesadillas were also ok, nothing special. Places wasn't crowded, so noise level was fine. Service is adequate and friendly. May go back if in the area and hungry. read more
