The proprietor's name is Carlos. He is an absolute idiot. I took my car in to get the bumper painted. I asked the manager there if they could fix a problem with my window. From the answer I got, I said just forget about the window, and do not roll down the driver's side window. I made sure that the manager wrote on the work order, "Do not roll down driver's side window." I had no problem with her. I eventually got a call from Carlos and he told me the window needs a new motor. I stated that I had requested to just leave the window alone and asked him was the window rolled all the way up, and he said yes. That's all I needed to hear to be satisfied at the time that the window was rolled up. The problem I had with the window is that if it gets rolled all the way down, it's hard to get it back up because it gets off track and the rubber molding gets messed up. When I went to pick up the car only Carlos, who is the owner of the place, was the only one there to turn the car over to me. First thing I did was looked at the window and it was obvious that someone had rolled down the window and forced it all the way up with ALL of the rubber molding hidden inside the window frame so it was obvious that someone had messed with it and used their hands to pull it up and close it. I mentioned it to him and he just went off. Yelling and cussing at me. And even though previous customers have posted here saying basically the exact same thing that I am saying about this man, he continues to do it. He tried to cheat me by telling me that the window needed a new motor. The window has a brand new motor, so he was lying. Besides, HTH can this liar say it needs a new motor yet also deny messing with the window? Anyway, I have long felt that when a person has to relocate to another country because of something not right in their own country, it would be reprehensible for that person to mistreat citizens of that country. I asked him did he come to this country to mistreat its people like this? I told him that since he treats a customer like this, maybe he should go back to the country where he came from. If I had to leave my native country and go to another country, even his, because of "something," I cannot imagine treating the people of that country like this. I would have utmost respect to not do something like this. If I did, it would mean that I don't have any respect for that country, nor its citizens. He told me to go back to Africa. I told him that I have never been to Africa. See how stupid he is? Anyway, I suggest that you avoid this Neanderthal. Throughout all of this all I could think of is that this man is uncivilized. Not only was the finished product top notch on all of them, they also fixed other imperfections, dings and parts on the vehicles at no charge as part of the service work. I have and will continue to bring my business to them. Very unprofessional and rude! When M&D called to say the car was ready on a Friday at 2.30 pm, they added that they only take cash or cashier's check, which was difficult to do on a Friday afternoon. When I called them they insisted on their policy so I told them that telling me at the last minute was discourteous and very unprofessional and that I would give them a bad review. Then I got a call from an extremely irate man, who was speaking very fast in a thick Hispanic accent. I did get two things: I did not understand because it was convenient for me not to understand and that he was furious about the bad review. Then he started using expletives about the car, so I finally hung up. The next day my brother picked up the car and they were all smiles. Been using these guys periodically for 10+ years. Everything from major repairs to light body work. Three different cars. Insurance claims and self-pays. I've run the gamut with them. The Pros - reasonable, cost effective, fast (very important to me since some body shops act like they NEVER plan on getting your car back to you as they're perennially 'running behind' schedule). The body work is always on point. No missing brackets, clips, misalignment, mismatched paint, or other little nuisances I've experienced with other places. The Cons - Sometimes there are bubbles and other imperfections in the paint job, so-called "fish eyes" perhaps courtesy of their paint booth. They'll correct anything you point out though. They're easy to deal with and genuinely good guys that will work with you. Matias (owner) and Carlos (GM) know their stuff and run a tight ship, usually. They have lots of guys working for them off and on, so you might wanna secure your valuables before leaving your car. I had a thermos lifted during one of my repair jobs a couple years back with about $60 worth of change and small bills in it. And yes, as others have stated - they STILL refuse to accept credit cards (even though I have offered a few times to set them up a system) or personal checks. Certified checks, cash, and money orders only here. These cats are old skool cheapskates lol. You'll get good prices and good service especially as you build a relationship with them as I have. 4 stars. They need to get a damn credit card machine! Oh, And there's no waiting room or tv. I have known M&D for many years having been referred by a close friend Who owned an auto parts business. M&D was not known as an A-level body shop but a solid B where you could save money and still get good work. Something has changed. Over the years, the owners I have referred have started complaining and I experienced first-hand why. Carlos, the owner is the root of the problem. My nephew took his Optima there recently to have his rear bumper cover repaired. He paid $235 to have 3 DRYWALL screws put in his bumper cover. When I stopped by this morning to ask Carlos how this could be considered acceptable, he got real aggressive with me and my brother and things got close to getting out of hand. Mind you, I never attacked him. I just showed him a parts diagram on paper and asked for an explanation. In the end, the technician came out, removed a few screws and showed us that the bumper cover was damaged beyond repair. No problem with his explanation but the jackleg repair should have at least been stainless screws and with caps to look decent. Carlos nearly started an altercation with his unprofessional and threatening response to reasonable questions. I am an automotive industry professional with 30+ years experience. Hundreds of friends, family and colleague contact me constantly asking for auto referrals for repair, purchase, parts, modification and more. In good faith, I can no longer refer anyone to M&D again. Excellent shop and great value. I had a very slight scrape on my new vehicle. Other shops wanted to do major work on it, removing it from the car to buff it out and paint it and some shops wanted to just replace it with a new one from the manufacturer. Quotes ranged from $1,100 to $2,900. M&D saw it and said "that's ridiculous". Left it like new for $350. read more

This is exactly why I go with auto-bodies suggested by insurance. Service and accommodations was below mediocre. They wanted me to pay in cash but hadn't required anyone else to do so. They asked when I would arrive a head of time to clean the car which they didn't clean but clean others. It seems like complete discrimination because other cars were cleaned and other people were able to pay electronically. They held my car for longer than necessary in my opinion as well. I'll be honest: I scraped someone's car in a chaotic parking lot, doing some damage to the paint of his brand new car. I asked him to get a quote from an auto body shop so I could make things right, and he found M&D. Actually he got a quote from two shops, and M&D's was $200 cheaper and also had better reviews. So M&D it was! M&D did a great job with the work and the price was very reasonable. They don't accept credit cards or checks, so plan to bring a big wad of cash (or a cashier's check) when you pick up. That's a real pain, but doesn't outweigh the excellent work and the super low prices. If you're trying to choose between the many body shops in Silver Spring and you aren't Mr. Moneybags, M&D is likely your best bet. read more

I was a little unsure when the guy here gave me a price that was $1000 cheaper than the first place I went to for a minor ding on the back fender. I thought that the $1300 price I was originally quoted from the first place I went to sounded insane though. So when he offered a price of $275, I was nervous, but I can say it looks beautiful. I was so upset after the first place tried to rip me off so bad. OK, this place may not have exactly award-winning customer service, but I don't need to be a best friends with the guy, I wanted my car fixed for a reasonable price and they did that for sure. I have brought my car here a number of times for painting and dent removal. Their prices are so low I don't understand how they make any profit. They are always less than half of the other estimates I get. They seem to know their stuff and will not over fix the problem. Meaning they will blend the paint over the repair rather than completely paint the whole panel. That saves time and my money. Plus their work seems good! I also like how their word is thier bond...if they quote you a price they stick by it even if it is not on a formal estimation sheet. I have also brought my car in for touchups for no charge. He immediately had an employee come and they thoroughly checked the car, spraying it to confirm where the leak was. They also made sure it wasn't leaking from anywhere else. The work he did was adequate and the estimate, unlike others on this site, was only slightly less than the dealership's quote. We had a major disagreement when he insisted that I pay him in full before testing the control panel on the side of the car where he did his body work. I am so pleased with the work done on my 2012 Honda. I selected M&D because it has good ratings on checkbook and they gave me a lower estimate than three other highly rated shops, including one down the street. At first, I was a little apprehensive because the estimate was low and because it was scrawled in a few lines on the back of a business card. But later I read the Yelp review below that said M&D's word is their bond, and that they do good work. When I brought the car in, Carlos (the shop manager) told me that one of the parts was going to cost him $500 which he clearly hadn't realized when he quoted me initially, but he stuck by his $800 quote. He told me that they generally stick by the quote except when they get into a job and discover something they couldn't have originally anticipated, and then they call the car owner to discuss. The work was of the highest quality, and I don't see how anyone could have done it any better. If I have a need for body work in the future, I will be back, and I plan on recommending it to others. read more

They fixed my car back in 2018, the bamper was not going in all the way.They didn't did a good job, I went to the shop and show them. One if the manager asked me the receipt and I showed him, he send me back to came another time. When I went again he said they are busy. Wen I went from the last time, there were two bosses, they said the warranty is expired it's over one year, if I were asking them nice, they said they would have fix it. I paid them almost 2k. I have been taking my cars to M&D for as long as I've lived in Silver Spring, about 15 years. I have gone yo them for repairs big and small, from when my car got side-swept when parked and totally smashed, to the many many bumper repairs and replacements on my minivan. Living in this area it's easy to get banged up, and I don't want my insurance rates to increase, so I pay out of pocket. I have checked and compared prices at many other places but none compare to this place. So on the price alone, I would choose M&D because I have saved at least 60% and more. Get estimates and you will see that this is not an exaggeration. Apart from the reasonable and affordable cost, what keeps me coming back is the reliably good work-- outstanding! I have never been unsatisfied with a job they've done on my cars, and remember, I have had many, probably a dozen. The car is ready when they promise, and working with Carlos is a pleasure. Last week I drop my car this place to get estimate (estimate is free everywhere) and M&D Body shop estimate my car and it was littler higher than what I expected (they use-to be reasonable but not anymore) ... finally I decided to take my car without repairing the body damaged and they decided to charge me $150, when I ask why they just came up with storage fee. They were just mad I didn't fix my car there and I had to call police and so on. I will tell you again don't go there. Just find other place to fix your car. read more

What a rip off! I could have gotten a better paint job at Maaco for a fraction of the cost I paid at M and D. I noticed spots that were totally missed. Places where they painted over the old paint without even sanding it. Messy, sloppy work. They're probably ok for touch ups or fender benders, but NEVER let them paint your whole car.
