We used to enjoy this skating rink but it has gone down hill. Rude staff, terrible food and all that...which could be somewhat overlooked because it is a nice rink. Today, I feel, was rock bottom and I will not return. The place is unsafe - overcrowded and zero staff on the floor. I picked up trash on the rink floor as well as someone's stopper that had come off. Unfortunately the day ended with me at the ER due to these unsafe conditions. I sacrificed myself to avoid a small child when another person hit me - ultimately smashing my face into the floor and causing about an inch long laceration on my chin. A fellow skaters stopped to help and abother lady went with me to the restroom to help control the bleeding. zero reaction from any staff - pardon the woman bleeding in the floor! I gathered my daughter and her 3 cousins that I had brought along with us, while clutching a blood soaked paper towel to my face. Still zero notice from any staff. The only time anyone working took notice of me was as I was walking out the door - I was approached by a young woman that wanted my personal inform to submit to their insurance. Thanks for nothing Lynden Skateway. I hope your policy doubles. Hopefully nobody slipped in my blood. What a disaster. read more

I rented out the skate rink to have a birthday party for my daughter here and it was probably the worst experience I've had. I made sure to communicate with them prior to the party and everything I had asked for didn't happen. Food wasnt made, drinks weren't ready, games weren't set, and the worst customer service I've ever had. No employee had a smile on there face, the manager or whoever was in charge was so unwelcoming that I honestly felt like she didn't even want us there. It was so strange and very awkward. After admitting that they made a mistake regarding my food & drinks when I asked for compensation they looked at my like I was being unreasonable. When I am paying for a service (an expensive one) I am hoping to have good quality customer service and a good experience and I didn't. Instead of enjoying my daughters birthday I was stressing over these issues. I will NOT be returning and I hope that this review helps those who are considering having a party there. read more

Years before carpooling my three sons to soccer practice, math club and debate, rainy Saturdays were spent at the Lynden Skateway. After household chores in the morning, we would jump in the car and drive to Lynden to get our skates on! During the first hour, we would warm up and get used to going around in a circle and staying upright. In the second hour, we danced the Macarena, played limbo and the dice game when inevitably, someone in our family would win a free drink. The "dark skate" was a particular favorite of my gang (when the disco ball scattered pretty glittery lights on the rink) and so was "backward skate". Later, we took turns holding hands during couple skate and the "whip". If you had the cardio strength to wait it out, they saved the best for last when boys and girls got to vie for top speeds during "fast skate". I loved doing this, too and everyone who was off the floor would line up on the wall and slap your hand as you flashed past them. Ahhh, These simple times were thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in our family. We hardly ever sat down, because we didn't want to miss anything! Now as adults, the boys live across the United States. When they are all home we go back to the Skateway once in a while, and reminisce as we listen to the Back Street Boys or Match Box twenty. Most important to note is that if you're worried at all about the safety of yourself or others during the literal pandemic we're all in, don't go here to skate. There were at least 50 people when I went in - adults and children - not a mask in sight and everyone was sitting/skating close together. I was at the skateway to purchase a pair of used/refurbished skates. Their website said to e-mail or call to make an appointment to come in. I e-mailed, noting what size skates I was looking for & requesting to make an appointment to come in. The owner responded saying she'd send pictures later in the day but never did. I called several days later to make an appointment to come in. The lady on the phone asked me if I had an appointment. I re-iterated that I was trying to make an appointment, and relayed my skate size to see if they had any for purchase. She said "I don't know just come in I guess". Poor communication/lack of customer service isn't great but it's not a dealbreaker. When I went in, I was met by the same unhelpful front desk lady who begrudgingly got some skates out. I tried on two pairs and made a decision. I promptly got out of there as soon as possible because it was worse in there than a plastic ball pit full of runny nosed/sneezy/vomity kids. I'm glad to have a pair of outdoor skates now though. read more

The staff is extremely rude, they treat customers like crap probably because they are the only skating rink in the area. The few times I have been there in the last 5 or 6 years has been just terrible, I refuse to go back. My daughter went last night with friends and was treated poorly as well by the owner. The entire staff could use some classes on customer service. My recommendation is do not go here. Find another place to spend your money. read more

Great floor to skate on. A bit overpriced but that makes sense considering they're the only skating rink around. The owner and the manager are extremely rude and unreasonable. The rink itself was decent. Where this place fails is the customer service and the food. The old lady at the front counter was smug to say the least. The girl who hands out the skate was clueless. I paid for deluxe skates, she gave me the crappy ones. I said "why didn't you give me the deluxe skates?" She was like "oh, I didn't know you wanted those..." I was like "I paid for them didn't I?" Then we ordered some fries. The shittiest fries on earth. $5 for severely undercooked fries. I took them back. They said "We'll make you some new ones." I was like "Cool." They brought out some more shitty ass fries. Also, the skate walkers they have for kids only have three wheels. For those who may not know, that is a very unstable design. There's no dress code on the website ..... there's no place at all where it lists what to wear or what not to wear .. it's all just a opinion based upon the older lady who came up to me and said "you shouldn't let her come in here wearing something that revealing" as my gf is sitting next to me !! She was the only person there to complain no one had any issues or complaints. We even have our own skates because we go there atleast 2 times a month . She said all of this to a minor . She was sexualizing my 17 year old gf and said to her she shouldn't be wearing a bra . I never want to go back after the rude experience with the owner . I had an awesome time at this facility last New Years and the rental was not unreasonable and they had some amazing activities that we were able to participate in such as all guys skate then all girls skate which made it less crowded for a couple minutes! I don't know who was working, but they really hurt a friend's feelings. A lot of patrons were wearing midriff shirts and were not turned away. My friend, who is a larger woman, was asked to leave because her belly was showing. This is blatant discrimination based on weight. This is totally unfair and whoever asked her to leave really should know how hurtful this stuff is. Not all of us can fit into the standard definition of acceptable beauty, and your employee did something really uncool to someone I care about. Thanks for listening. I love that this is a local place that anyone can go. They have skate times for all sorts of things, from tiny tot (can even bring trikes to ride then) to open skates. They have all sorts of teams who practice there, and teach artistic skating etc. And for being in a little backwards town like Lynden, the music isn't bad either. read more

For a facility that holds birthday parties regularly I was surprised at how many potholes there were on the road towards having fun. I believe the staff needs to be a bit more educated about cakes; strange since they should be familiar with them. Their rule is 'It must be a traditional cake.' Please define 'traditional'? I didn't find this clear, and actually neither did anyone else I related this episode to. Apparently that means it cannot be an ice cream cake. Perhaps it would be clearer to change the rule to "It cannot be an ice cream cake"? Okay, that's all well and good, we don't make ice cream cakes, but when someone makes a fondant 3-D roller skate cake over the course of three days (watch the television show 'Ace of Cakes' if you need a reference point for how much work this entails) and transports it in their car nearly 25 miles (not an exceptionally easy task), they probably want to carry it in and put it on the table themselves. Wouldn't you? Watch a Food Network cake challenge if you want to see how devastating it can be to spend all that time (& $!) on a cake and have something happen to it while moving it- even just from one table to the next. Even if the cake in question is a store bought sheet cake from the grocery store- someone took time (& $!) ordering it and transporting it. Respect that; why wouldn't you let them carry in the cake and leave? Seriously? This should not even be an issue. I can't remember ever having a problem bringing a cake into a building before. Ignorant people abound, common courtesy suggests holding the door open for someone carrying any large object. Friendly people usually hold doors open and ask lots of engaging questions about how the cake was made. Cake is usually shared all around- pieces going to staff and other affable people. It's natural wanting to share cake with pleasant folks. Yes, I should have called to confirm. Gosh, if I had known it would have saved me any misery I would have called 10 times! Somehow, I still think there would have been problems. I can't imagine why I wouldn't have looked forward to calling again, since the first phone call to even organize this whole shindig was so pleasant. I must have been the first in the history of Lynden Skateway Birthday parties to not have called back to repeat the exact same thing I had originally said in the first phone call. Too bad they didn't have my contact information to give me a quick ring since it was imperatively important- oh wait... they did. I saw it in the binder when I visited the prior week. Literally everything was a struggle- from reserving a party to paying money ($!). And then after all of that, I must admit, enjoying myself was a struggle. The theme of the night seemed to be "Why is this hard? This shouldn't be hard... Why is this hard?" I guess you can get away with treating paying customers like this when there aren't too many other roller skating operations around. It's probably unwise though, since the customers in question would have otherwise happily spent MUCH more of their hard earned dollars ($!) in their facility. Funny how young adults without children have all this expendable income. If my friends and I return, we sure would appreciate less epic battles over every little thing and more fun. Thank goodness I absolutely love roller skating and the company of my friends, or I would have had the worst birthday party (or party in general?) of my life. Skating, Music, Cake, & Friends- 5 stars! Everything else.... sorry, but comparatively to all other birthday experiences, I feel I'm being more than extremely generous with 1 star; unweighted average for the overall experience totals 3 stars. It's not where you go, but who you're with that really matters. If things like this frustrate me, I usually say "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed," but in this case it was honestly both. WORST SKATING RINK EVER!!Poor looking establishment. It's not very clean and nice looking and the ppl working there aren't exactly family friendly. It's all about the money! No wonder no one is ever there. I took my disabled daughter in her wheelchair and they wouldn't allow my bf to push her n a wheelchair on the skating rink unless he wore skates and he can't skate without falling. Which is very unsafe for my daughter. Disappointed with this establishment as it had nothing to do with having shoes on the skating rink since my daughters wheel chair also goes outside. It's all about the money. IM NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN!! It's a skating rink for families. Supposed to be fun and accommodating, not uptight, greedy and rude. When my bf attempted to walk around the rink while pushing my daughter in her wheel chair, to be safe, he was told he could not be on the skating rink without skates. He had to wear skates even tho he can't push her and skate safely since he would probably make them both fall down. But whatever. They don't care. I'm only going to Burlington skating rink from now on. They allow us to push her on the rink with shoes on and they r family friendly and nice. DONT GO HERE!!! read more
