Came by for dinner the other night and it was a world class experience. Definitely understand how this restaurant is listed as #33 on the World's Top 50 restaurants along with a Michelin 1 star. Made a reservation a couple months in advance and my table was ready upon arrival. Despite the Michelin star, the restaurant was very casual with many wearing trainers and t-shirts. Lyle's featured a prix fixe meal nightly with the only option being a supplementary cheese course. Started off the meal with the complimentary sourdough bread with butter that tasted even better as it melted. :) The snack course with the raw oyster and cucumbers were quite unique mixing of different textures and flavors. The soup course was a light and refreshing course featuring tomato gazpacho along with some very fragrant melons and herbs. Portion was quite generous. Highlights of the meal included the monkfish course of the evening. The monkfish had a firmer and sweeter texture (similar to lobster) and was cooked to perfection topped with cured mangalits. The peas that complemented this dish were super sweet and extremely flavorful. The mutton course was also world class with a couple pieces of mutton. Mutton is a touch firmer and tougher than lamb. The mutton was cooked to a perfect rare. The borlotti beans and courgettes were the complements to this course which I didn't quite understand... The sheep's milk ice cream was also world class as it was non-sweet, even perhaps a touch bitter. The loganberries & oats definitely sweetened this course perfectly. The last two items from the bakery were mind-boggling. First was a flaky pastry, like a profiterole with some type of custard on the inside, which was phenomenal. Incredible. One of my favorite meals from our recent week-long trip to London. The menu and the pictures didn't jump out at me beforehand, but my wife insisted we go and I'm so glad we did. We went for lunch so we had the a la carte menu, and got two oysters, gazpacho, razor clams, raw scallop, borlotti beans, pork ("Gloucester Old Spot"), ricotta ice cream, and cheeses with honeycomb. Every single bite was excellent, with the gazpacho, scallops, and beans standing out to me, along with their incredible sourdough bread and butter to start. If there's one dish I'll be dreaming of, it'll be the borlotti beans, which were cooked so perfectly and came in an amazing broth. We'll definitely be back -- maybe for dinner, but I actually like being able to choose what we order for lunch. read more

This is my very favorite kind of Michelin restaurant, where not only is the food spectacular, but the service is top-notch and the staff is FUN! Lyle's has been on my to-do list for a while, and I'm glad I finally made it this visit. I highly recommend the wine pairing, as the wines are carefully selected and really enhance the dishes. My favorite courses were actually the starters....especially the veggie one they made to substitute for the Red Mullet one (I can't eat fin fish). It was delish! It was good but I had huge expectations and it did not work for me as much as I hoped. I had the luck to go to Brat and Clove Club the same week, and while the presentation was comparable or better, the meal did not come together in the same way. I did not care for the oysters as the Mandaran overpowered the oysters. I found the whelk excellent, probably the highlight. I also thought the turbot was very good. While I enjoyed the mallard and it was presented beautifully, it didn't work for me perfectly. Service was efficient but not as warm as comparable restaurants. read more

Was able to snag a last minute reso. Service was slow and the food was pretty bland. Started w/ scallops, which made my tummy turn. At first really enjoyed the grapefruit citrus pairing, but there was something in the seasoning that did not sit well w/ my stomach. Asparagus might've been the most overpriced vegetable I've ever ordered. Normally I'm a fan of anything w/ an egg accompaniment, but yet again, something was off w/ it. The only good part was using the bread to absorb the sauce aftermath. The highlight was the eel - much to my surprise. And the beet accompaniment was such an interesting contrast. I'd order it again for sure. Same w/ the pork belly. Prepared very differently from what I'm used to and I enjoyed how thinly sliced it was. They should extend their lunch hours to start at 11 or 11:30 at the latest to stagger the people more. It was pretty obvious how busy and overwhelmed both the FOH & BOH got. It's not every day that you get to eat at one of the top 50 restaurants in the world! I was extremely fortunate to be in London and have the opportunity to dine here! I had 3 items: I had a raw oyster topped with some apple concoction, and it tasted very lovely and clean. I also had their butternut squash soup! It was amazing! There was a saltiness that perfectly balanced the sweetness of the butternut - it was a gustatory delight. I settled on the deer for the main course. This was an incredible meal. I got the wine pairing with the dinner tasting menu, and since it changes seasonally and I didn't take notes, I am not going to write details about the food. What I will say is that all the dishes were balanced and complex in the flavors and textures. There were a couple of standouts for me, like a cucumber dish and a mushroom mousse. Service/COVID: I thought they did a really nice job. High quality and safe service, a distanced restaurant and all the right precautions. Food: this is where I was let down. I sometimes get a vegetarian tasting menu when I don't want to ask to substitute some things I don't like. I got a vegetarian menu here. I would rank several restaurants more highly than this on the worlds 50 in London because of their treatment of the veggie menu. It felt like an afterthought vs. spending time to make delicious vegetarian meals. The flavors weren't there and the creativity was missing for mine. For example, he started with a lovely oyster and some sauces and roe and tomatoes and mine was a cucumber slice with a nut butter. I just expected more given their ranking. read more

We made a reservation to Lyle's based on the top 50 restaurant in the world (#33 in 2019 list), 1 Star Michelin and a 59 pounds menu. OMG, what a find and amazing meal. Contemporary industrial setting, Lyle's is not in the main area in London but is up and coming area with lots of other hip places nearby. Food is spot on, great service, full on a Saturday night when we got seated at around 9:30pm. Love the rib eye, the mussel broth was amazing, as well as everything else they served. Come check it out. Great Michelin to $ ratio, and at the end of the day, the great food is what it is about. read more

Trendy spot! Lyle's channels an industrial, but light feel with beautiful dishes and great service. I came here with five friends a couple weeks back for lunch and had a great time. We decided to share all the dishes on the menu. Given how small the portions were, I had a bite or two of each thing. The menu changes every day, but it's all good. First, they bring out baskets of hearty sourdough bread. Like massive chunks and it's freshly baked there. It's delicious! Then, they start bringing the other dishes out. Given we were a group of six, they were nice about telling us which of the small plates we should order more than one of and then splitting the portion into two plates so we didn't have to keep passing things around. Everything was good, though most things wowed me more with their presentation as opposed to the taste. That said, I loved the Lamb's Sweatbreads, Radishes & Treacle and the Turbot, Samphire & Kipper Butter. For dessert, I asked for the ice creams featured on the other desserts, which were the Caramel Ice Cream, Gooseberry Sherbert, and Florence Strawberry Ice Cream. Super delicious, especially that Gooseberry Sherbert. Had a great time and would love to come back, though given the high prices, it's not a place I'd return to often. read more

This place didn't break the Top 50 in The World's 50 Best Restaurants (2017) but it did break my Top 10 Places to Eat in London. Why It's Top Ten (the +'s): + Decor - Airy and industrial but lots of wood to ground the place so that it doesn't feel like a warehouse. + Service - Great! Hostess promptly greeted and seated us. Water always filled timely. Only one time the server was distracted by a table of attractive women and didn't serve our plate which had been resting on the counter for a good 3-5'. + Food - Some amazing tastes were plated for our consumption. The menu changes regularly so I can't foresee what my next meal will taste like. But based on this visit, the kitchen knows how to create inventive plates. The mutton and mint sauce was a wonderful contrast that worked. + Vibe - Trendy and hip so it seems. Could there be more men with beards, perfectly rolled jeans and boots? Ladies with metallic shoes and designer handbags! It's a fashionable set but I didn't find them pretentious. Why It's Not Top Ten (the -'s): - Value - The server suggested we order six plates at minimum to share. We opted for three because we were simply not that hungry. This restaurant was my favorite not only because the food was delicious but also because the service and wait staff were phenomenal. Our waiter, Steph was extremely attentive and made our dining experience extra special on more than one occasion. Different staff members greeted us, served us our meal, and made the entire experience a joy. We were given a signed card and a special dessert that was incredible. I will be adding this to my list next time we visit London. This is my kind of Michelin restaurant, everything from the decor to the casual dining experience. The ambiance here is certainly minimalist, but the prices certainly are not. And the service could use some work. Tiny as the plates are, though, most of them do pack a flavorful punch. First of all, the menu is a set thing, and while you can substitute certain items if you have any allergies or restrictions, you still have to pay for the whole shebang, which can cost upwards of £50 for the whole course. The tables aren't the most comfortable or spacious, and depending on the chef's mood, the food may or may not be worth the price. For starters, I was served cold slices of bread with butter and a tiny portion of chilled tomatoes. Next came the Gem Lettuce with Seaweed Mayonnaise. It was a tasty starter, but nothing to stand up and shout about. The Cotswold White Egg & Black Cabbage was actually really good. Think juicy, savory burger without the meat or bun. It had a rather smoky flavor one wouldn't expect from such a simple dish with only a few ingredients. Instead of tonight's Mackerel, Lardo & Greengage dish, I opted for a vegetarian version, which came as a Fried Beetroot dish with Hazelnuts. It's heavier on the stomach than it sounds. The Quail, Redcurrant & Onions dish was heavier than the last, but no less savory. It was my first experience eating quail, and while I found it quite gamey, it was not much different than a fatty chicken dish; just more dainty. Finally, the dessert was a Fig Leaf Ice Cream with crushed walnuts. The juxtaposition of sweet & juicy warm figs, cold, yet soft ice cream, and nutty walnut crumbs was quite the ending to this meal. The wine menu is extensive and pretty high quality, but again, may or may not be worth the price. My Rosé did pack quite a punch, though. If you want to feel like a fancy diner in one of London's fancier restaurants, you might want to look elsewhere. The food might be good, but I feel a restaurant- especially one this expensive- should focus on more than just its dishes. The customer service and atmosphere should also feel welcoming and memorable; something this place is regrettably lacking. At least, that's what I took away from my experience here. If you're ever wondering what modern British cuisine is like then I recommend checking out Lyle's. For dinner, everyone has to get the same four course tasting menu (£59 pp plus complimentary starters) but the dishes change every day depending on what's fresh. Our four courses for the night were: Courgette soup, Milk Curds & Sorrel - served cold with strong notes of fresh courgette and a creamy texture. The herbs were the most interesting part of soup for me - they have such unique flavors and go really well with courgette! Monkfish, Turnips & Preserved Lemon - this was my favorite dish out of the four. It looked really simple at first glance but every ingredient was packed with flavor. The Monkfish tasted super fresh and succulent. I loved how every ingredient maintained its authentic flavors and little seasoning was needed. Dexter Rib, Artichoke & New season garlic - this dish had really rich flavors, perfect to go with a glass of red wine. They serve you three slices of beef which seem like they're different cuts because the textures were different. There was a sauce in this dish that I really liked but I don't remember what it was! Morello Cherry & Chamomile Mess - loved the cherries in this dessert! It's sweet but slightly acidic giving it a rich flavor. The chamomile mess was like a meringue. My only complaint was that the meringue could be more fluffy so it wouldn't stick to my teeth. It's definitely all about the food at Lyle's. All ingredients are high quality and fresh. I wanted to love it but I just couldn't... ambiance is cool, staff is friendly, plating is beautiful, but there was some ingredient in every dish that put me off, plus service could be better. For dinner, its 5 courses plus a couple bites. Tell them in advance about dietary restrictions. My omnivore boyfriend was pretty happy, while I left most of my dishes behind. First off, a restaurant of this caliber should either have lint-free or black napkins. I really hate leaving a nice dinner with my black dress covered in white flecks. We asked for wine recommendations and neither glass mentioned the description we were given. There were 2 small bites before the real courses began. These were my favourites of the night. The other dishes ranged from "bland" to "gym socks". Though I asked for the wine list before our last savory course, the waiter didn't return to take our order until after the course was over. At that point, I ordered a cappuccino, which came without an offer of sugar. I like that the ambiance is casual, but the service and taste just didn't match the price. read more

After several failed attempts of timing on our part each time we were in the city, we finally found ourselves an opportunity to check out Lyle's! Easy to reach, minutes walk from the nearby overground stop. After the hype of numerous years, the experience was disappointing. The menu consisted of 4 listed items plus 2 small starters not listed. The restaurant wasn't full but for some reason we weren't greeted by a server for quite some time after seating - I had to stare at someone to get their attention. The onion fritter and pumpkin soup starters were pretty good though the soup was too salty. Overall the dishes that followed weren't bad, but weren't impressive or wowing by any means. They all tasted clean that's about it. I don't like mutton so the substitute was a grilled eel. While flavored well, it wasn't deboned well - bit into several pieces of bone. Lastly, the dessert of ice cream and mousse was just so uninspiring - I can order that at any basic sushi restaurant. Not worth the price. read more

Maybe I have ever so enjoyed leeks. Everything was amazing. Just, divine. Don't be fooled by the simplicity of the menu. When my cousin first suggested this place to me, I was taken by the drawing of the goat on their website. I just liked the general feeeel of the place. The menu looked so plain... but the plates are nothing close to plain. They are so incredibly full of flavor. I was literally sitting there going "wow" after my first bite of each dish. Lyle's reminds me how great food can bring one such happiness. Every bite was an experience. I don't even like eel and I don't even like mussels! I usually find mussels generally too "fishy", but I have no idea what they did here to take away that smell and to infuse them with this incredible umami. I usually stay away from eel because they have these tiny little soft bones that get stuck in your teeth and what not, but this one had none! (None I noticed at least). It was great. We went with our server's recommendations and everything was just so amazing. She was really detailed, and explained everything kindly to us. I came for a 945pm reservation on 7/26/19. The hostess was great, however that was about the only real good quality I can say about the staff. My server for the night was a taller British lady who was also taking care of two other tables for the night. She did favor one table in particular however, leaving my table and the other table consequently unattended and ignored for a majority of the night. My food came out EXTREMELY slow at a pace of maybe one plate per every 10-15 minutes. The night would drag on because the portion size is small as it is already, however the pacing made it even worse. The food itself was mediocre as well, with the exception of only one item = the sautéed carrots and vegetables. The pork belly and loin were extremely tough/chewy to the point where we couldn't even cut the piece of meat with a knife. (The table next to me also left their piece of meat untouched due to it being so tough). The mandatory 20% VAT charge made it so the server can care less about each table because she is still receiving the same amount of pay regardless of how well she took care of a table. I am very disappointed and let down by the fact that this restaurant received a Michelin star and is ranked highly in the top restaurants in the world. read more

A restaurant for foodies... Set menu a must do... If you're a fussy eater it may not suit. Booked in dinner super far ahead and it happened to fall on one of their guest chef series. Usually a four course sit down menu (which is quite frankly the only way to eat at a place like this) is £44. The guest series was £49. It comes with all of the trimmings; amuse bouche and petit fours and some of the best sourdough I have ever had, baked inhouse. The five stars is first and foremost for the food as it was spot on and one of the best and consistent food experiences that I have had in London. We really could not flaw a thing. Just the right amount of food (I wish I could have fit in more sourdough), and nothing over powered from one course to the next. The menu changes daily but for us, there was a subtle muton tartare, a 'perfect with Jura white' cuttlefish and curry plant, mackerel wrapped in radicchio leaves with a pine nut milk (wow) and a beautifully rare steak dish. There were two desserts, neither of which were heavy. They acted like, firstly, a delicate palate cleanser of goats milk ice cream, then a creamier but still fresh comforting finish with a very cleaver take on a rice pudding. This is a high end 'special occasion' restaurant, as to do this place properly you need a good 2.5 or more hours to sit back and enjoy the experience. The wine list is very much on the natural side and may not be for everyone. I struggled a bit and we had to send back a highly recommended wine as it was still fermenting. It would be nice if there were a couple of less natural, just organic or bio wines that are clean to choose from in the lower range. Service is very attentive and quiet serious but they warm up eventually! Serious because they care... And effortlessly efficient. Looking forward to the next occasion! read more

Awesome. Proper fine dining done very well. Cheeky 4 course taster menu, which I'm led to believe is the only option. Started with some snacks - breaded lambs shoulder with smoked Mayo and a beetroot dish. I've clearly done a complete u-turn on beetroot as every time I have it at a restaurant it's awesome. With some sort of bacon i think, and a delicious light sauce. Lamb shoulder was frigging ridic. Tender, moist, pink - just how lamb should be. Breaded to perfection - not too heavy, crunchy and delicious. The girolles dish - which I think are mushrooms? Punchy, plenty of sourness from the fermented gooseberries, hint of fennel flavour. A beefy powerful broth. Delicious crunch and gooey loveliness from egg underneath. The mackerel started off ok, and got better as I hit more of the different flavours. Fennel, sourness (enhanced well by the shallot) with a lovely texture - soft flesh, crispy skin. Peas were fine but didn't add a huge amount. Superb staff - the perfect level of attentiveness from the waiter, the maitre'd was very obliging despite my lateness and the busyness of the place. Drinks served promptly. Very cool mixed and cosmopolitan crowd. Modern and clean venue. The pork was tender, charred on the ouside, perfectly pink in the middle. Beans added a lovely bite, the sauce was tangy and salty without being overpowering. Watercress added more bite and a subtle flavour. Simple pork dish very well executed. The cheese wasn't amazing but probably because I didn't actually really want it. The crackers weren't great either and the 2 cheeses were pretty poor - I love a blue but this one was too extreme for even me, the other was marginally better but still not great. Pud was blackcurrant, cream & meringue - what's not to love! Freshness of basil was awesome. Sweet, sour, creamy and crunchy in one. Bizarrely a hint of saltiness in a couple of bites - no idea if meant but really added another dimension! Overall a top experience and I'd highly recommend a visit! read more

The starter and desert were very original and a wonderful mix of tastes and textures but the cod and beef were a bit blend and not exceptional even though well cooked. Been here twice both times for lunch and have tried all the seafood and veg options on offer. It's good but is it really deserving of being on the top 50 restaurants in the world? The bread is unbelievable. The rest, I've had better in a Parisian bistro all day any day. The quality of the ingredients are top notch. It's just that the flavor profile is not varied enough. Maybe if I had some of the small game or duck dishes? But I don't like them so I can't say otherwise. There is no I mind blowing technique in any of the things that I had. Maybe I am spoiled. The more I've tried places on the top 50 list the more I get disappointed. David Toutain in Paris is not on the list but it's much better than this. My partner had a work meeting in London, so he decided that we should have dinner out on a Friday night. Lyle's had been on my radar FOREVER (okay a year), so I made a booking for dinner. When we walked in, it is quite bare inside. But hey, it works for this place. There's a bar on one side. For dinner, you have the option for one of two four-course meals for £44: Meat or vegetarian. Reminded me of a certain restaurant in Copenhagen. There's also a supplemental cheese course if you want it. The night we went, there was also a supplemental grouse course. Of course we went for the whole shebang. They didn't do wine pairings, but we were given several amazing suggestions of wine to go with the food, starting with a lightly carbonated unfiltered rose champagne. And it was amazing. The snacks came out. They were good, but they didn't blow my mind. However, the first course of girolles with a duck egg was spectacular. The flavors were definitely there, and I was really happy with the whole thing. Next we had mackerel with burnt apple and fennel. It was nice, I'm not a huge fish fan, but my partner was raving about it. Next was beef. And my partner couldn't stop raving about it. It was a delicious bit of beef, cooked perfectly rare and one of the best tasting beef dishes we've ever had. We needed more bread to sop up all the beefy juice left over in the bowl. Just wow. The grouse was also really good. Cheese was nice. Dessert was really delicious with a black currant leaf ice cream with black currants. Finally the petite fours were spectacular. And the wines? Also awesome. For the grouse course, the chef came out to talk to us because we had mentioned it reminded us of Copenhagen. We chatted a little bit about restaurants there and one we had both went to (which isn't the one you would think). We were all fans of that place, and I can see how his restaurant is influence by it. So yeah. Lyle's was fantastic. It may be quiet, and it may be a bit basic in decor, but the food and wine more than make up for it. Plus it's cheaper than a lot of high-end places you'll go. The food combinations were interesting and different, and it really showed that the chef cared about the food there. After one meal, it definitely became one of my favorite places to dine in London, and I'm sure we'll be back to eat here on several other occasions. read more

Read their adv on the metro paper, try to book it but has to wait for 2 weeks then arrived no greeting no open doors for us, food was sooo ok, have to wait in the queue for the washroom, worst experience for the money (£106 for 2 just food) never gonna come back again. Lyle's - British Near Me - London, XGL

Lyles is bang on trend right now in terms of the direction of the London food scene. Fresh, clean flavours with just a few ingredients per dish with heavy influence from Nordic cuisine. The bright airy room felts informal but sophisticated - you could proudly conduct a business meeting here or invite the in laws. Staff are knowledgeable and courteous. We tried the monkfish liver in intrepidation (a delicacy in Japan but often discarded in the UK). This was creamy and full of foie gras like richness, especially teamed up with blood oranges. The Dexter steak was perfectly cooked and the chocolate dessert was sublime. Only disappointment was the chargrilled calcot - a mystery exotic spring onion type vegetable from Spain which basically tasted like a giant onion. In terms of baby friendliness, Lyles is spacious enough for buggies and highchairs are provided. We popped into Lyle's for a light lunch on a Friday. The starters all sounded really good so we ordered about one of everything. The first was the sea urchin. I've only every tried sea urchin once in my life, which was probably a bad one to start with. My two other dining companions seemed to be big fans of it, so I took a tiny spoonful of it just to try it once more to see if I liked it. Unfortunately I'm still not a fan of sea urchin, but based on their more expert opinion on it, it was a really good portion and very fresh - 'tastes of the sea' as they said... I really loved the duck liver parfait which was really rich and creamy - great to be eaten with bread. Another favourite of mine was the smoked eel, beetroot and horseradish. The cod tongues and ramson were so soft, they literally melt in your mouth. Other dishes that we tried were the white sprouting broccoli and spiced yoghurt, and the lamb's sweetbread, heart and little gem. All very satisfying. I have been here once before for dinner for the tasting menu, which may be worth checking out if you ever decide to visit. The food here is simple yet tasty, and not overly-complicated.
