I'd just moved to DC in the spring of 2020 and gave this office a try for a check up/teeth cleaning. I have a pretty high pain tolerance but within a minute of the cleaning I was in severe pain. I figured I had a lot of plaque build up and suffered through it but the entire time I was wincing in pain, debating if I should tell her to stop. (I understand discomfort is normal but this was different) After the cleaning, I made it clear to them I was upset, that I'd never experienced such an aggressive teeth cleaning. The next day my bottom teeth/gums were throbbing. A few months later, in that same area, I developed a swollen lump on my gum line that eventually went away but its now 2021 and the painful lump is back. I wish I never went here. read more

Dr. Hudson is amazing! I was a slacker and avoided going to the dentist for nearly 4 years but she is knowledgable, caring and very good at her work. I got an amazing cleaning, checkup and she also checks for oral cancer which is important. I also like how there isn't any gimmicks at her office like whitening/braces for adults/teeth grinding etc. unless you really ask and need these procedures. read more

Check in with the front desk is quick and the teeth cleaning is no hassle. The group Heart sang about a "Magic Man." I'd like to change the gender here by saying that Dr. Hudson is a "Magic Woman." My teeth aren't the greatest and, in spite of my envy of the likes of Donnie & Marie's teeth, I haven't taken the best care of mine during the eons I've been on earth (and despite the number of times I watched "The Donnie and Marie Show.") I sometimes wonder why, if god made sharks with the ability to regenerate unlimited tooth-after-tooth, he didn't do the same for humans. So unfair! Recently, one of my front teeth (among the ones that show when I smile) began to look more than a little woebegone, and I was reluctant to smile (or even talk), and I have to deal with the public every weekend. I finally made an appointment with Dr. Hudson, hoping that she would be able to use her artistry to make a smile on my face possible once again. She did! She did! Dr. Hudson is so amazing and so kind. She never chides me for my negligence, nor does she try to push root-canals and crowns on what's left of my teeth. She simply listens to my problem, goes to work, and I emerge a brand new (albeit still old) woman! Terrible. I went in for a general cleaning. She suggest that I have an old filling replaced because it seemed to be falling apart. So I scheduled to have the procedure done. She took out the old amalgam and put in composite. Or so I thought. About 9 months later, I started to experience some tooth pain. I had moved already so I had to find a new dentist. My new dentist pointed out that Dr. Hudson had not removed all of the amalgam so the composite didn't have anything to bond with. On top of that, she had not removed all of the decay. My new dentist says that he hasn't seen anything so careless in a long time. Very unprofessional. So I suggest you avoid Dr. Hudson. Save yourself some pain. read more

This place is fine for a routine cleaning, but for anything beyond that, I highly recommend going somewhere else. I stopped seeing Dr Hudson after she erroneously referred me for a root canal when all I needed was a filling. It turned out her assistant took the x-ray at an angle, making a cavity look much worse than it actually was. The kicker was when my wife went in twice for a severe toothache and was told both times to gargle with salt water. After getting a second opinion, it turned out a root canal WAS in order in her case. She suffered an abscess and some bone loss. $2500 later it's still not clear whether or not they'll manage to save her tooth. Save your time and money and look elsewhere. read more

Excellent!! A++ THANK GOD for Dr. Hudson!. I was in soo much pain one morning when i woke up and was desperate for a dentist. I called around and no one could squeeze me in except Dr. Hudson. Within 2 hrs i was in the chair getting my procedure done! Thanks to her i can eat once again! The staff is very cheery and helpful. Though the office is small, it's nice and homey...that's to be expected considering the neighborhood she is in. I definitely recommend her to anyone out there looking for a dentist!! read more

Dr. Hudson is the best. I had not been to a dentist in years, and I had a broken tooth and some cavities. She took care of me efficiently, painlessly and courteously. I could not be more happy with the results. Dr. Hudson clearly knows what she is doing and does it better than any other dentist I have ever been to. Dr. Hudson and her team have been helping me and my daughter with our dental needs for several decades and we have always had complete confidence that she will give us her best advice and efforts to keep us well. I'm new in town and didn't have a dentist or a recommendation except for one Yelp review. Dr. Hudson has a professional manner but I am not happy with the results. I had a cracked tooth which her office helpfully scheduled me in for quickly, but her solution -- just put a filling on top -- has not worked. The tooth hurts again and I fear worse consequences now. The office is quite cramped and the staff person made doing the insurance complicated where it is actually really simple with my plan. I'm going to try a different dentist to fix the problem. If I find out that Dr. Hudson's solution was the most appropriate one I'll revise my review. read more

I love Dr. Hudson and her staff so much. The office is in the basement of an apartment building I lived in many moons ago. Proximity brought me there, but the honest, consistently good service draws me back from across town 12 years later. The receptionist and hygienists are friendly, laid back, and do a great job. I never have any issues with billing, and the office keeps detailed patient records. The lead hygienist is thorough but not rough and always very pleasant. And Dr. Hudson? She's just a wonderful doctor driven by patient health, not profit. For example, I once booked an emergency next-day appointment to have a lump on the roof of my mouth examined. I was *convinced* it was oral cancer or some kind of scary growth (thank you Google). Not only did I show up 3 hours late to my appointment because I misheard 7:30AM as "10:30AM", but it turns out I was also totally panicked about nothing. Dr. Hudson was so sweet. She listened patiently, carefully examined me, and gently explained that the bump I was feeling was completely normal ridgey palate bone, which I was more attuned to because I'd burned my mouth on hot food. She assured me it was nothing to worry about and didn't even charge me for the exam! And she didn't make me feel like a moron. On another visit, I brought in the night guard I wear for nighttime teeth grinding (TMJ disorder), which an oral surgeon made for me a few year prior. It was a little worn down, and I thought it might be time to get a replacement, which is fairly expensive (around $250) even with insurance. Dr. Hudson was nice enough to examine it and told me there was no rush, the device still had some life in it, and I could bring it in for a replacement when it eventually got a hole in it. Really? How many dentists/doctors do you know who turn down customers willing to shell out or blindly bill their insurance company? Dr. Hudson isn't looking to make a buck. When I first started seeing her, I didn't have dental insurance, and her prices were very fair. It's clear that everyone there just really cares about patients. Come to think of it, I'm pretty bummed that when I leave DC, I'll be leaving such a wonderful dental office. The modest digs may not be much to look at, but it's the people working there who set it apart! read more

I've been coming to Dr. Hudson for about 3 Years now and have never had a bad experience with her or office. I've gone to a couple of dentists in DC try to sell you extra services or "treatments" so that every visit is somehow $150 with your insurance. Dr Hudson has never tried any gimmicks and makes you feel like a valued patient. I cannot recommend her and her team enough. Always easy in and easy out. I went earlier this summer and had a very pleasant experience. Its a little confusing since the office is in the basement of an apartment building and not very easy to find downstairs (it's just literally a wooden door - no transparency into the office whatsoever) but the staff was kind and very accommodating. Dr. Hudson was very friendly and efficient - not much waiting around and she gets you in and out of there in a reasonable time period. Dr. Hudson herself would have gotten 4 or 5 stars but one of my deep cleanings was done by an assistant of hers. The assistant could not get my anesthesia done properly, and seemed to lack confidence about the whole process. Not a good thing to be feeling when you are sitting with you mouth open and someone is poking into it. I will go back to this office because its right next to work and takes my insurance. But I will be sure to explicitly ask for Dr. Hudson and not body else. read more

Everyone in Dr. Hudson's office is warm and professional. Setting up the appointment was easy. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. Dr. Hudson is very thorough and spent the entire exam with me instead of just poking in for two minutes like most other dentists I've been to. Dr. Hudson is a wonderful dentist. She is very different from every other dentist I have been to simply because she will listen to what you are interested in instead of trying to sell you something you are not interested in. She has very small hands which makes it easier for her to work in your mouth. In two months time I have gone from a mouth filled with metal fillings to a mouth that looks beautiful. After finding Dr. Hudson through my insurance company, I took a chance on the reviews I found here on yelp. I'm really glad I did. She was incredibly friendly and kind, made me feel very comfortable - even going so far as to explain what was going to happen and any noises I was going to hear. She was very professional, and very fast - my filling took way less time that I expected (all of 30 mins, really). I've been going to her my entire life. (I'm currently 21.) She's wonderful, and I've never had a bad experience. I may not have liked the dentist as a kid, but I always liked Dr. Hudson because she was friendly and made it less stressful. She's always been kind and extremely helpful. She knows exactly what needs to be done and does a wonderful job - or she suggests the right person to go to (she suggested a great orthodontist when I needed braces and a great dentist to pull my wisdom teeth). The most comfortable cleaning I have ever had. Also needed a crown adjustment (crown was from another dentist up Wisconsin who is very expensive and highly overrated- don't trust Washingtonian Best Dentist lists) I had been in pain for two years going in for adjustments every couple of months and resigned to the miserable situation when I saw Dr. Hudson who in a few seconds was able to correct the bite on the crown without my needing to return with the same problem...just wish I had seen her earlier because the other dentist decided to grind my healthy teeth down since he couldn't figure out what the problem was with the crown and now my upper front tooth bangs on my lower teeth... The only concern I had was the x ray machines which seemed a bit outdated and thus might expose patients to more radiation? read more

Given that I found Dr. Hudson through yelp, I felt compelled to write a review for others to see before they make an appointment. I went to Dr. Hudson for a cleaning, which was fine. A few months later I went back with some tooth pain. She took an x-ray and found a small cavity. I went back the next day to get it filled. The filling itself was fine/normal, but the tooth immediately felt odd and sensitive when I bit down. I went back to Dr. Hudson the next week and she filed it down slightly, but said it could simply take six months to heal. A few weeks later, while I still in discomfort, I found another dentist for a second opinion. He actually took the time to examine me and look at the tooth and ended up filing it down significantly. He said the bite was way off. When I went back to yelp, I saw that others had also had problems with her fillings, which I wish I had realized before letting her fill my own cavity. Overall, I found Dr. Hudson and her staff to be nice, but I will not be going back and would not recommend her to others needing anything beyond a cleaning. read more

i got a filling here that created a ridge in my teeth and food gets stuck there all the time now. i went in to get it fixed and they didn't really fix it. i'm not going back. i thought the checkup was a positive experience; they were very thorough with me going through possible causes for my weak enamel. read more
