This is the second time in the last 90 days that Katie Tigani has helped me with dental issues, and I can't thank her enough! The first time around, I bit into an undercooked piece of pearl couscous and broke off a piece of a back molar. Dr. Tigani and her delightful staff fit me in on an emergent basis, and I was back to normal within 2 hours of the incident. Throughout the whole ordeal (my first "major" dental issue), she explained her thought process and medical decisions, and even indulged my curiosity by identifying my issue on film, explaining the anatomy, area of defect, neural structure, etc. I again saw her today after several days of agonizing pain, and she again fit me into her schedule, so I could achieve some measurable relief as soon as possible. She very thoroughly diagnosed the source of my complaint, presented me with several conservative treatment options, and performed a minor procedure deftly and seemingly effortlessly in her office suite. An added bonus of seeing Dr. Tigani - she accepts my dental insurance. I received a modest bill for her services after my last visit, as most of my bill was covered under plan. I'm hopeful today's visit will be equally affordable. If you're in need of a caring, competent dental provider, please give Dr. Katie Tigani a try. I've been going to the Tigani practice for 32 years and they are on the 3rd generation of Tigani dentist. Each generation as good or better than the next. Katie Tigani is the newest Tigani and is excellent. She is very personable and more importantly a great dentist. She is thorough, explains everything, honest and really works hard to save your tooth not rushing to do a crown if not necessary. I've put my trust in the practice for so long and happy a new generation is going to keep things running at least as well as the past. I started going in the Bethesda office which is convenient, although I do like the DC office which is a little more modern feel and some advanced equipment like the ability to do a same day crown if you need it. read more

In my experience there are two kinds of dentists: those who produce "treatment plans" for every new patient, and those who do not. Primary in the mind of a "treatment plan" dentist appear to be their mortgage, car payment, kids' college plans, payments for their high-priced shiny office and equipment, etc. Primary in the mind of a non-"treatment plan" dentist, are (1) evaluating the physical condition of the patient's teeth AND (2) listening to the patient's own preferences. After moving to DC recently, several friends of mine recommended a dentist who turned out to be the "treatment plan" variety. This dentist recommended over $3000 of proposed work, including replacing about 10 existing fillings which are starting to show some wear. When I questioned the amount of proposed work, and stated that I preferred a conservative approach to dental treatment, this dentist threatened me that if I did not do the work, it could lead to crowns, extractions, implants and other even more expensive scenarios. I went to Dr. Tingani for a second opinion. After looking at my teeth and listening to my preferences, Dr. Tingani was happy to do nothing. He look at all of the fillings that the "treatment plan" dentist recommended replacing, and pointed out that none of the teeth were showing any active decay, but only typical signs of aging fillings. He said while there was a chance some of the fillings could break or pop out as soon as "tomorrow," they could also last another 10 years. He said that if these were his brother's or kid's teeth, he certainly would not replace any of the fillings. In short, he talks like an engineer and will give you all the details you want about the condition of your teeth, fillings, and the pros and cons of your options, and let you make the call rather than pressuring you into work that may be somewhat "optional" just because he has bills to pay. He also has a nifty camera to show you close-up photos of your teeth on a computer screen, which I had not seen before even at the much more expensive dentist. Personally, I would rather pay zero now and take the risk that a filling might pop or even a tooth break in a year or ten -- even if it means dealing with a day or two of pain --and go get it redone for a couple hundred bucks, than pay $3000 now for five, two-hour dentist appointments over the next couple months and get all of my fillings put totally up to date. Beyond the cost, this aggressive approach also continually weakens your natural teeth by drilling away more and more of them, as Dr. Tingani was honest enough to acknowledge. Kudos to Dr. Tingani for competence, honesty and listening to the patient's preferences, not letting his finances drive his treatment philosophy. BTW, I think if you prefer a more aggressive treatment approach, Dr. Tingani and his staff would be happy to oblige! The sense I got is that they will lay out your options honestly and let you make the call, and if you want to pay more now and be absolutely sure nothing will ever break, they can do that too. Also, note-- they do NOT accept any insurance. As another reviewer noted, their prices do seem quite reasonable, but the most reasonable price of all is to not pressure you into doing unnecessary work! read more

This was the BEST dental experience of my life. I went to Dr. Katie Tigani and she was amazing. I'm used to dentists being lecturey and admonishing you for any misstep in dental care. Dr. Katie was the opposite. She was gracious, personable, educative, honest and kind. And she's a perfectionist--something you want in a dentist. I loved her conservative approach to dental work, "let's try this first before we do the most aggressive choice". The staff was amazing too. Shout out to Anna and Lorena and Anita, who cleaned my teeth. Thank you all for being so welcoming, comforting and kind. I went to Dr. Tigani after having a horrible experience at Dunn Dental Group. SO glad I did. I went to Dunn Dental Group after finding them through my insurance company. I regularly go to the dentist, so I wasn't out of date for my appointments and after having x-rays and a consult with them came out with a "treatment plan" for $3k of work! Basically they told me that there was decay surrounding all of my old fillings (or a majority of them) and that they all needed to be replaced and one of two needed a crown. I was baffled by this and had a bit of sticker shock considering less than a year ago I needed no work. I am also religious about brushing, flossing, etc.. Long story short I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Tigani who was recommended by several people I know. He was amazing and wasn't the "Treatment Plan" type who didn't want to nickel and dime me for everything. Bottom line is that there was NO decay on any of my x-ray's and none of the work that Dunn dental group said needed done actually needed to be done. He said that they were old silver fillings that "might" need to be replaced some day, but may also never need to be replaced. Monitoring with regular appointments would determine any future work, but at this point he wouldn't recommend any work and didn't see any decay. I really appreciated the conservative approach he took and how he was looking out for the patient and not how much money he could make off of potential dental work. He saved me from having a lot of unnecessary work and pain and he will definitely be my dentist long term!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Hardly a day goes by when I don't regret not shopping for a better dental experience. While the care was competent, the service of the accounts and the communication with staff, especially business staff is so difficult and distasteful that with a plethora of dentists and competent office staff all around the city, it would be a waste to spend time arguing and hearing half-truths and deception from this office. He is a thouroughly excellent dentist as he always discusses all the available options for treatment and suggests the most conservative alternative, not the most profitable! . He's a great listener, has a cheerful personality and is extremely patient. I have always felt very confident of his professional capacity as his work is great and is very up to date of latest developments in his field. In addition, when you call his office for an emergency appointment, his front office staff, which has been with the practice for a long time, makes sure he can see you and provide advice on an action plan for whatever dental issue you may have. I am a patient of Dr. Garcia going on two years. I came for an appointment on 08/10/12. I was insulted by being asked if I had insurance. To insinuate that I would be in anyway receiving services under false pretences. The receptionist stated she submitted a claim to my insurance and it was denied. If she would of called the insurance company or even called me or my wife, it could of been cleared up in a matter of minutes. However, she chose to confront me at my appointment in a not so nice way. I am very disappointed that you would have someone on your staff who would be so insensitive to your customers feelings. I feel she should be required to take sensitivity classes. read more

I, absolutely, could not ask for better dental care. He and his entire staff (the majority having been with the practice for years - and, that says volumes!) have taken care of all my dental treatments with the utmost profession.
