Paul Cohen, especially, is a great dentist but his three partners aren't slackers either. All in all the best dental practice I've ever had, and I've been with them for 25 years, my wife for 30+. The whole staff, admin and other professionals such as dental techs all know and perform their jobs very, very well. I can't imagine going anywhere else. But over the years I've had several crowns and even a bridge done. Meticulous attention to details is the hallmark of the office. The office is clean and comfortable. I would avoid this unscrupulous dental practice if I were you. They cheated my elderly mother by not telling her that they do not accept her insurance. She ended up having to pay the entire bill herself. Note that this dental practice does not participate with ANY insurance providers. They fancy themselves a "boutique" dental practice. That is just a trick to get more money out of patients. Don't be fooled by the show they put on for you to justify their higher prices. There are plenty of comparable dentists in the area who take most insurance. You will pay more out of pocket if you use this dental office because they are out of network. Look elsewhere unless you don't mind paying more for dental services than you need to. read more

Rarrely, if ever, is going to the dentist an enjoyable experience. After having avoided the dentist for 4 years (definitely not advised), I finally gave in. The office is conveniently located near the Metro, across a parking garage and a block from the nearest capital bike share (no excuses for not going). The staff was extremely friendly and personable, and from the moment I arrived I felt welcomed. My appointment started right on time and within 45 minutes, I received x-rays, a cleaning, and some advice and next steps. My teeth were gently cleaned (I've had some dentists that seem to enjoy seeing me cringe), and one thing I really appreciated was how they explained each step, why they werre doing it, and what they were finding. All in all, quick and painless, and even enjoyable. All other dentists should take notes from the team at Cohen and Cohen After this experience, I may not wait years until my next visit. read more

I've been going to Cohen and Cohen DDS for 2 years now (so 4-5 appointments) and they're just the best. It's easy to make an appointment, the staff is so friendly and welcoming, and the hygienists do a great job. Love when my teeth go from fuzzy to sparkling in less than 30 minutes. Dr. Cohen always checks everything over at the end to make sure your mouth is in good health. I've never had a major procedure here (just semi annual cleanings) but it's been great every time. They do take some insurance. I always have to pay up front when I check out (I want to say it's $125 for a cleaning?) but then I get a check in the mail a few weeks later. Yay for that dental insurance. Oh, and they always give you a bag of goodies on the way out so I have floss and extra toothbrushes for a year! read more

Dentist visit was fine but nothing special. The dentist only came for less than 5 min. I contacted them to make sure they took my insurance before going and they said they did. Then charged me $182 for the visit. If you bill at a rate so far above the rate paid. It is all but a lie to say you take insurance. I've been coming here for over 5 or more years and will continue to see Dr. Sara as long as I can. I live and work in Arlington, so that is saying ALOT. I found them through the Washingtonian Best dentists lists awhile back and they are efficient, friendly and always on time - even when I'm late (no more than 5 minutes). I recall the first time I went there and when I had my cleaning, they spent more time that I had wanted them to and they they said that I needed to floss more. Point taken, received and done. Next day, I made this little adjustment which have made my visits much more easier and pleasant. Advice: 1) Make appts at 10am since parking on the street starts at that time around that area. I never need to feed the meter for more than an hour. 2) Floss, floss, floss, floss. Everyone and their mother will thank you! And I will too:) 3) Do go 2X a year as per your insurance allows. Overdue review; from Feb 2009. I was having major wisdom tooth pain. Despite being a new patient, I was able to get an appointment fairly quickly to see Dr. Isabelle Lass. She was really nice, and with the help of the cleaning and subsequent wash that she gave me to take home, my pain subsided. She referred me to an oral surgeon to take my wisdom tooth out. read more

Also, I had great experiences with all the staff from reception and billing to the hygenists. I would highly recommend Dr. Lass. I have been seeing Dr. Lass for a couple years and have always felt she was an excellent dentist. Most importantly, she is trustworthy. I came to Dr. Lass after a scary dental appointment in Arlington when a dentist told me I would very soon need three root canals and Invisalign. None of that made sense to me as I'd had orthodontics as a teen and excellent dental care my whole life. Dr. Lass confirmed that my mouth was in good shape. She has cleaned my teeth and kept them in good shape since. But today, she really went above and beyond. I brought my two month old into the office with my husband and, part-way through my teeth cleaning, my son needed to be nursed. Dr. Lass didn't skip a beat; a dental hygenist brought in a blanket to make us comfortable, and Dr. Lass went right on cleaning. AMAZING! She couldn't have been more accommodating and she's got a great bedside manner. Best dentist I have been to in my life, and she really seems to love her work. read more

Excellent dentist. I have lived in DC for five years and struggled with finding a dentist who didn't recommend useless procedures. One of my fillings fell out and I asked a co-worker who recommended Dr. Paul Cohen. I called and expected not to get in for at least a week since I was not an existing patient. This is a great practice and I highly recommend it. I show up exactly on time for my appointment and I'm seated no more than 5 minutes later. When you book an appointment, it is definitely YOURS! Dr. Lass is really nice and extremely thorough. I have been to two appointments for cleaning and a cavity filling. There has been no problem getting the time slot that is most convenient for me. I can't comment on the dentist, as I saw her for just a few minutes, although she seemed nice. I will never go back to this practice however due to my experience with their hygienist. To start with, I have excellent teeth, and am told this pretty much everywhere I've been. My sole reason for going to this practice was for a cleaning, and they had an opening whereas every other place was booked for months. I didn't need full panoramic films or anything else, and they were a little peeved by this up front. When I got to the visit though I was subjected to a non-stop harranguing by the hygienist over when my last cleaning was and all sorts of displeasure from her that bordered on inappropriate. After about 15 minutes of this she then cleaned my teeth for about 15 minutes with less than a gentle touch, and then declared that time was up, and I would have to come back for a second appointment for her to finish. The total cost of the visit was something like $170. I was pretty furious and so had to go to another dentist, who did a regular full cleaning in one visit, without the insulting belligerance of Cohen & Cohen, and even commented on my "beautiful" teeth. So I wouldn't recommend Cohen & Cohen to anyone, who are more money-focused than on providing conscientious care, and have something to learn about customer service. read more

I'd been desperately seeking a good dentist since I moved to DC nearly 3 years ago (why are they so hard to find??) and had seen multiple dentists from 2 other practices in my search. Finally I found what I've been looking for with Cohen and Cohen (you must see Dr. Miller). The office is spotless, the staff is friendly, and location is super convenient for metro riders and city dwellers (although a trip from outside the city would be well worth it). And while I certainly appreciate the cleanliness and efficiency of a well-run doctor's office, Dr. Miller is the reason I come back. She's a remarkable wealth of knowledge and a great listener for all my questions both trivial and more concerning; she epitomizes bedside manner. I've been to Brooke Miller, DDS multiple times now. She filled a terrible cavity for me, added composite to fill spaces between my teeth, and made me new retainers. SHE'S THE BEST! She knows exactly what she's doing and is the most accommodating and professional. Before going to Dr. Brooke, I HATED going to the dentist and it took a lot to get me to come in, even for a cleaning. I'm so happy with my experience and the results that she has completely changed my opinion of going to the dentist!!! While visiting my daughter in Brooklyn from San Francisco I found myself in extreme tooth pain. My daughter's dentist was away on vacation so we started to panic and look for a dentist who could take us as it was an emergency. Google led us to Dr. Shawn Cohen. From first phone call to the office and visit I knew I was in amazing hands. Dr. Cohen started my emergency root canal on 12/29 at 830 pm and for the next week would call at least once a day to see how I was feeling and if any additional assistance was needed. I have never met a dentist who was so attentive, knowledgeable and caring. Not many doctors would put so much thought and attention into a patient who is just visiting and not a returning patient. Although I agree with the other reviews that Cohen and Cohen DDS is a great dentist to go to, I must say that over the last two years that I have been a patient there, I felt that I was constantly overcharged. I have the same insurance policy as my spouse and for similar dental work I am charged about 20% more than him. My spouse sees a dentist in Arlington and the copayments for the same fillings (2 surfaces) are significantly less. So, quality costs its price. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Sara Cohen (and sometimes Dr. Lass) for over 10 years now, since my mother has been coming to Dr. Paul Cohen since the early 80's. Not only have my experiences with Dr. Sara been great (she is excellent at giving shots, does a thorough job of inspecting teeth for cavities and other issues) but the hygienists are fantastic. Since the majority of my dental visits are just for cleanings and to have my biteguard adjusted, I tend to judge my experiences more based on the hygienists, and all of the ones I've had are personable, gentle yet very thorough. I see Dr. Paul Cohen and trust the work he does. The first time I visited this office - just over a year ago - I wasn't too sure if I'll return. Nothing bad, I just left an office I visited for 15 years (the dentist retired and sold his practice to a younger doctor, whom I tried to work with for about 2 years before deciding to find a new office) and Dr. Cohen's office felt different.
