A male server named Troy took over, and his behavior was very inappropriate. He initiated a fist bump with both me and my partner, then returned later and attempted to touch me again by going in for a high five. My partner declined, and Troy responded by saying, "Sorry, you're insecure." That comment was unprofessional and completely unnecessary. I immediately corrected him and said that my partner was not insecure--his behavior was inappropriate. Physical contact with guests should never be assumed, and insulting a customer after they set a boundary is unacceptable. Because of this interaction, we will not return during Troy's shift. It's unfortunate because Melanie provided such a wonderful start to our dining experience.

I actually met one of the owners while shopping at Games Farmers Market in Newport News. She spoke so passionately about her restaurant being a soul food spot that I knew I had to try it. I went within the week, and they don't open until after 3 p.m. (I believe they stay open until 1 or 2 in the morning). They even have extra parking across the street, which is nice. I went in by myself, and they told me I could sit wherever I wanted. Since I was one of the first people in there that day, the bartender/waitress greeted me with so much kindness. She went over some of the specials, and I ended up ordering the Rasta Pasta along with a drink--a Pineapple Upside Down (tea or lemonade, I can't quite remember). Whatever it was, it was delicioso. That drink was a 10/10--I'd go back just for that! When the pasta came out, it was served with garlic toast, and I also ordered some macaroni and cheese. The pasta was flavorful, and honestly, I've been thinking about going back for it again. The mac and cheese wasn't my favorite, but to be fair, I prefer baked, homemade macaroni & cheese--so that's just me, but it was good. While I was there, I chatted with several of the owners and the cook, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. I even learned one of the owners is a veteran. The restaurant has a sports bar vibe, with TVs everywhere, music playing, and a DJ--it's lively, clean, and has a great atmosphere. I really love the vibe, the people, and how comfortable they made me feel. I'll definitely be back. If you're looking for good food, good people, and a good atmosphere, I'd say give George's a try--you might end up loving it like I did.

The drinks are too sweet and taste like straight sugar, bbq is okay (they offer only one sauce), and their sides are just okay. The service, however, was top notch. Our server was Colton (I think?) and he was the life of the party. He made our whole experience phenomenal. We all ordered off the happy hour menu, but I guess there's no buttons for the happy hour pieces, so he just tried to discount our food the best he could. We think it all came out okay, but didn't love not knowing. If you offer happy hour, honor the happy hour pricing with proper buttons. Basically, this place just feels like a restaurant that isn't prepared for customers, which is odd. I don't know how well restaurants in this area do, as this is the third restaurant in that exact location within 10 years. Maybe that's normal, idk. Overall, I would go again if all my friends were going, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The fresh broccoli was in a large container, tender, and not overcooked. There was even a nice soft roll. My son ordered the Delmonico steak, prepared, fairly rare, a big fat, baked potato, fresh broccoli, and roll. He thoroughly enjoyed every bite! All too often, the sports-pub vibe will let you down, but this place takes each item on its menu seriously and cares considerably about what they're plating in front of you. It makes me feel like something special is happening in that kitchen like the show "The Bear." If the bartenders ask you if you want the potato salad as your side because it's made in house, then trust him. He's telling you this for a reason because you're about to embark on a culinary experience of a lifetime. What I assume is typically a college bar, this place is quite a wonderful little find. Mind you, I happened to come through on two evenings during the summer holidays so maybe the vibe is different in October but I can't recommend it more based on my experience.
