I chose their fish special, which was salmon with veggies and a sauce (forgot the name). This dish was very good. It was probably the best cooked salmon I've ever had. When you see seafood with the perfect crust and a lot of flavor, you're in heaven. It did have a small bone and I felt it lacked the amount of squash and zucchini, but again, a wonderful meal. There was one situation which resulted in only a 4-star review. Out of curiousity, I saw on Facebook that they offered $5 discounts. I did let my party know and we were all ready to use them when the bill was ready. But the staff told us the discount was to be used on a table rather than an individual ticket. When we looked both on Facebook and our personal emails, none of that verbage was mentioned. Not trying to sound harsh, but please be sure to state every detail foe customers. The Rasta Pasta came out first and had great flavor but it was lacking that jerk seasoning taste that you would get from traditional "Rasta Pasta". My sides were then brought out and the Girl Sprouts were great but the Mashed Potatoes definitely needed some salt. I was then served a Crab Cake Sandwich, which I didn't order, so I had to wait another 10 mins for my Crab Cakes, which came out a little burnt. Overall, I wish I can say I had a better experience. We also had to wait quite a while for our server to bring over some waters. She was very nice but just kept forgetting. I looked at the reviews and knew I had to give it a try. When we arrived, my wife and I were quickly seated by the Host. And then we waited. And waited. About 10 min later, I told the Host that we had not seen a waitress yet. He was apologetic and promised to find them for us. A few minutes later, the Waiter showed up and took our orders. I fully planned to order the beef ribs, but the cost of $38 was so far outside the norm that I just couldn't do it. (They actually have a sampler platter that costs $66!!) I ended up ordering the half BBQ chicken, BBQ beans and potato salad. My wife ordered the pulled pork platter, sweet potato fries and Mac & Cheese. Both orders came out quickly, but the first thing I noticed about my dinner was that I was having to 'saw' my chicken to eat it. Most BBQ chicken I have ordered at other restaurants is tender to falling apart. But this one definitely fought back, and though the flavor was not bad, I kept having to add the table-side BBQ sauce (which was good) to flavor it. The beans were nothing special- they were BBQ beans. Frankly the best part of my order was the potato salad which was quite good - a bit more mayonnaisey than normal potato salad, but I found that I actually liked that aspect of it. A couple of times during the meal, the waiter stopped by to see if we needed anything which was good to see. My wife said her pulled pork was okay but also needed supplemental BBQ sauce. She said the Mac and cheese was good, but that the sweet potato fries were overcooked. She ended up not eating them which is very unusual for her. Towards the end of the meal, I ran out of tea and started looking for the waiter. When he did show up, I asked for a refill. He disappeared for an interminable amount of time and then finally returned with our bill. I was still sitting there with an unfinished meal and an empty glass, and still had to remind him that I still needed a refill, and had been waiting for it for a while. He admitted that he had forgotten it, but then actually sat down next to us, seeming to have problems entering our bill in their handheld 'point of sale' device. I asked him again if he could get my drink first. He finally handed me the device to pay the bill and dashed off. He was gone a while again, with me still waiting on my drink. I finally just gave up finishing the meal without something to wash it down with. The Waiter finally came back with a 'tea to go' for me. Though I had planned to order desert for the two of us, we just paid the bill and left, checking off one more restaurant that does not understand that they are in the food AND customer service business. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. It's a small, quaint space that gives you that perfect blend of cozy neighborhood vibes with an upscale, refined feel. The food was absolutely outstanding--every dish had unique, well-balanced flavors that clearly showcased the talent of the chef. You can truly tell that a lot of care and creativity goes into the menu. The service made the experience even better. The bartenders were fantastic (James especially stood out!), and the waitstaff were incredibly personable, attentive, and welcoming. Circa 1918 is one of those rare places that feels both like a hidden neighborhood gem and a fine dining experience all in one. We will definitely be back!
