    Our pizza.

We went here because we were craving pizza and the reviews were overall good. We weren't disappointed. The bartender was very nice. The drink selection was good. Our pizza was very good. We also got a pork bellied taco which I thought was amazing. The ambience is nice and I would definitely go back if I was staying in the area.

Parking in this area always seems to work out somehow. It's mostly street parking. We went on a rainy Saturday night and the place wasn't too busy. We love doing a date night here because it's a pretty relaxed environment and the foods always good. We love a booth and the booths are pretty big. We started with a beer and the drink of the week which was called eternal luminescence. The cocktail was delicious - gin, st. Germain, lemon juice, lavender syrup and garnishes. We also got the special taco which was a boom boom shrimp taco. I'm considering trying to convince my boyfriend to go back on a Tuesday for taco Tuesday this month so we can get it again. It had a good number of shrimp on it and the other ingredients were super balanced. Finally we rounded off starters with the meatballs. We've had these before and love them every time. They have a slight heat to them but the sweetness of the sauce plays nicely with it. Would definitely not skip these! We were pretty plain and got a pepperoni pizza for our entree. I asked for Parmesan cheese and they brought a block and grated it on the pizza while I LOVED! The crust is yummy and was charred but not burnt. We will be going back.

As we arrived in town, we were looking for places to eat that was not only delicious but local. We stumbled across venture which fit perfectly with our adventurous motto for our mini getaway trip. We were super excited about the menu as it had items listed out of the norm. Pictured: Pork Belly Crab Ragoon Dip Suck It Up Butternut The pork belly was to DIE FOR. The honeycomb and apple slices was a delicious touch and we licked the plate clean. The wonton chips served with the crab ragoon dip should be sold EVERYWHERE, and the pizza was light with the perfect amount of goat cheese. The crust was also how I prefer all my pizzas to be. It was quiet on a Thursday afternoon... so the service was fast and attentive. It was cozy and very hip. We would definitely go back, especially for the pork belly shareable.

    Thai Me Up pizza

It has been a minute since Sophia and I dined here. When it comes to finely made pizza, they deliver. Not only did we dine in, a few people from our meetup group joined us where we were able to snag a table in the back for a semi-private dinner (a group of 9 were there but were pretty casual). Would this bring back good times or leave us with utter dissappointment? Walking in, we were able to get seated along with the rest of the party. Inside, it had a nice crowd but not overwhelming. And the whole place looked spotless. After a few minutes, we were all ready to order. I selected one of their newly added items, the Thai Me Up pizza. It consisted of ginger wasabi peanut sauce, chicken, carrots, red onion, shredded mozzarella, cilantro and chives topped with a sriracha swirl. This was pretty good. Each ingredient came together nicely. To have the peanut sauce as the binder was a great call. It did have some spice as expected but not overpowering at all. And the rest of the group really liked their dishes. When you have great company enjoying conversations along with their meal, it's a win-win. And I can't say enough about how tentative our waitress was with us. You know we'll be back here again :)

    Smash burger-subbed tots for fries

The menu sounded amazing but the items we tried were just okay! First off it is nice and cozy inside. The booths are comfortable and depending where you are seated you can see into the kitchen. There is a long bar area and a few tables with chairs but mostly booths. It was nicely decorated for Christmas. Service-not so great. I get it, places are understaffed but we sat for a while before getting drinks (including water) and we found out they were a waiter short so things were slow. Now food/drinks: Ran out of key ingredients of their cocktail of the week. It happens but had been looking forward to it. They did try to make a modified version and it was okay. They at least didn't charge me for it. Husband wanted 2 different beers and they were both out and finally got his 3rd choice. Food: The following were specials: smash burger was alright but expected the patties to be a little bit bigger. Beef Stroganoff-Beef was very rare. Good flavor though but strong on the rosemary seasoning. Queso blanco nachos- would have been good if they actually melted the cheese. It was just thrown on top. With the not so great service and the food being just okay not sure I'm in a rush to go back.

House salad with fried chicken added

Went for lunch and sat at the bar. I sit at the bar when I want fast service, which is what I got. Ordered the carb Rangoon dip and a house salad with fried chicken added. Everything was good and fresh. The dip was really good, super cheesy, decent amount of crab in it, and my salad was delish. Fried chicken breast was a little a little overcooked but it did the job. Bartender was nice and gave me recommendations when asked. It was pretty slow and quiet, maybe a few people sitting in the booths and another person came in to the bar as I was packing up to go.

pan seared salmon with parmesan risotto, asparagus, and lemon beurre blanc, 2020

I've been to Venture a few times over the years and it has always been excellent. They have an extensive menu with weekly chef's specials and they also serve brunch, which I've yet to try. I've eaten at the bar and also had carry out. Their menu is consistent and diverse at the same time. I had a vegetarian pizza with pesto, roasted red peppers, and mushrooms back in 2016. Vegetarian pizza options on the current menu include a Classic Margherita, the Great White, Five Cheese, Mediterranean, Wild Mushroom, and the Green Goddess. I definitely had to try the tots. These are not grocery store tater tots, but hand made squares of goodness. Fast forward to February 2020, just prior to the pandemic. I had the tots again, and they were just as good. The restaurant and the bar, where I was seated so as to avoid a wait, were busy, and I was tired from a long day, so I opted for one of the specials to go, pan seared salmon with parmesan risotto, asparagus, and lemon burr blanc. The salmon was tender and flaky, the risotto creamy, and all the flavors complementary. It's hard to find a restaurant these days, locally owned or chain, that not only weathers changes in the market and stays open, but maintains the consistency in their stand by dishes while offering variety and the same quality in their specials. Venture does not disappoint.

Food and service is always top tier. It was great to watch the pizzas being made. It's so nice and cozy inside.

We had a couple close to the family friends down from the DC area for the Virginia High School Swim Meet and needed a good restaurant that took a reservation for 12 people. I had called their sister restaurant Brown Chicken Brown Cow and spoke to Camille, who was super awesome and told us that Venture took big reservations. So that's what we went with. We actually stopped into BCBC before dinner and had a beer. Very cool place and just 2 doors away from Venture. Venture was super clean and the food was awesome. Lots of Tapas and Artisanal Pizzas. They have a nice drink menu as well. The staff was very nice and accommodating. If you do go with a big group, they only do 1 check and gratuity is included. Overall it was a great experience.

Love the atmosphere, the booths are large and you don't feel crowded. The staff was absolutely wonderful, attentive and super nice. I like the fact that there is a full bar. The food came out hot and you can definitely tell the ingredients are fresh. Highly recommend. We had the Tots Poutine , Meat-za and crab Croatan.

I can't believe I haven't done a review for Venture Kitchen. I've been numerous times and have never had a bad experience. I went the other night for my friend's bday and there was five of us. We were seated in a booth had menus were given to us. They had a daily special menu, Hampton's restaurant week menu, cocktail/drinks menu, and their regular menu. It was martini night and my friends enjoyed theirs and I enjoyed the Pesca Bellini. We ordered pizzas (cheese pizza, supreme pizza, and the weekly special the Rajun Cajun pizza) and wow it was phenomenal. The picture I attached doesn't give the pizza justice (it's the supreme and 1 piece of Rajun Cajun-we did some trades on slices lol). The only reason I'm giving this a 4 star the beer cheese appetizer w/pretzel bites and Granny Smith apples wasn't the best. The apples were way too sweet and the beer cheese tasted like Alfredo sauce. Either way I love the friendly atmosphere and will continue to support the business!

    Poke cups and meatballs

This was our 2nd visit. Both times we were seated quickly in a booth. They have booths for 2 and 4 people. You might be able to squeeze 6 but that many people might be more comfortable at one of the tables. The server was very pleasant and attentive. I only noticed 2 tables and when combined could probably seat 8-10 people so I'm not sure it would be good for large groups. Previously we came with friends and tried a little of everything. Pork belly, cheese curds, poke cups, pizza, sausage bombs and tots. The tots were interesting and were cubes as opposed to the traditional shredded type of tot. My husband's face was probably the sausage bombs or pork belly. I would agree the pork belly is great and I had the poke to myself since I was the only seafood fan that night. I love the cream cheese and jalapeño. The wonton cups are crispy and not my favorite. Tonight we had the poke cups, pork meatballs with Thai chili sauce, green goddess pizza and margherita pizza and green goddess pizza. I emptied the poke cups to get to all the good stuff. :) the pork meatballs were like a flavor explosion and I would highly recommend them. I enjoyed the green goddess as it was very flavorful but my husband said the margherita could have been improved. I thought it could use a smidge more cheese because who doesn't love cheese. I'd say the average price is $17 unless you get a special entree that ran more like $29 or $42 for a ribeye. We did see several ribeyes and they did look delicious. 3 poke cups were the same $17 as the green goddess. The things can add up if you can't decide and get a little of everything.

    Pork potstickers

Well, my visit this time for an early dinner wasn't as great as my last visit during brunch. They did have a great offering: half off a bottle of wine (every Tuesday) and we enjoyed our selection. The service was also very friendly. But that's where the good part of this review ends. We ordered several apps to share. All of them looked great! But the taste was subpar. The best offering was the pot stickers. Not super impressive, but ok. The pork belly was served with apple slices and a honeycomb. The honeycomb was SUPER sticky, and it's texture took away any pleasantries it was to bring to the dish. The pork did not have any flavor. It was super bland. The deviled eggs were also super bland and the smoked salmon seemed tasteless. The capers were as expected. The bread pudding was a little dry. It seemed like it needed a topping or sauce. 3 STARS! I feel like this is a fair review because the service was great and they are known for pizza, which I did not have. I would be willing to return to try the pizza, actually. But for this visit and for these selections, it's 3 stars for me.

We arrived at 6:30pm for our reservation. We walked in and was greeted and the next gesture was the hostess asking for $10 each. I was a bit blown away because I didn't understand what the $10 was for because we just walked in the restaurant and it was only a handful of people inside including an employee sitting down eating ... and the workers still setting up and what appeared to be the entertainment that was setting up as well. The hostess mentioned entertainment was taking place around 7:30 or 8:00 ... Okay but it was not even close to that time frame so not sure why money was taken or asked for in advance. My bestie and I were going to dine if anything share an appetizer and have a drink ...definitely wasn't going to be there for any entertainment because we both were underdressed so that was a bit of a turn-off but he was excited to try the restaurant so he paid the $20 for us to walk in and sit down. The restaurant was wide open so we decided to sit at the bar instead of a table not sure if he was greeted at the bar because I went to the restroom. Nevertheless I came from the restroom and sat at the bar with him and not even 2 minutes later I was greeted with gnats and the smell of bleach such a turn off not sure what's going on here or what happened but I was ready to go. My bestie wanted to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt but 5 minutes later I still was turned off and was ready to go. Well... go at your own risk. Parking is available on the street as well as a parking garage is available within walking distance. We were in and out by 7pm. $60 spent I order an old fashioned I know I finished that in about 15 seconds because I didn't want anything to get in it so from what I can recall it was good. Have fun and enjoy life :)

We made a reservation for 6pm, it wasn't busy then. We sat at the bar first because we were a bit early. Once we got our table we started with the crab dip , it was easily the best I've had. For entrees I ordered the crab cake and he ordered the seafood pasta. He mentioned the sauce could use some wine and lemon everything was cooked perfectly. The crab cake was fried perfectly and not just fillers, actually crab meat. My drink was yummy. I ordered the Gold Rush- highly recommend. He had whisky. The ambiance is very unique. I would say upscale casual. They have a full bar and lounge area. I think this place would be great for an event or party. It has been a while since I was fully satisfied with every aspect. You have to try it.

This has been high on my "want to try" for a long time and finally saw an opportunity with an available reservation, went for it and am so happy I did. I dined solo, which I rarely do, but this was the perfect place for it. It was apparent that most people dining were regulars. The owner was chatting with just about everyone and diners were popping over to other tables to say hello, as well. Felt like a very small town. Service was perfect - not overbearing, but perfectly timed for a good flow throughout dinner. Their menu changes often, so some of the items I loved, may not be available - but it does seem like their fried oysters are a mainstay and holy moly, they were delicious. I had one cocktail - I believe it was called Watermelon Sugar. It had vodka, aperol and fresh watermelon. Refreshing and smooth. I tried two apps: the fried oysters and the bao buns. Both were fantastic. Perfectly prepared, so much flavor. I think that next time, I would stick to the appetizer section and try many rather than getting an entree. I got the scallops, which were delicious, but the apps wow-ed me more. Prices aren't low, but you get what you pay for - really high quality dishes with lots of thought and execution embedded. I don't say this lightly - this has been added to my top 10 list in all of Hampton Roads!

It's a small, quaint space that gives you that perfect blend of cozy neighborhood vibes with an upscale, refined feel. The food was absolutely outstanding--every dish had unique, well-balanced flavors that clearly showcased the talent of the chef. You can truly tell that a lot of care and creativity goes into the menu. The service made the experience even better. The bartenders were fantastic (James especially stood out!), and the waitstaff were incredibly personable, attentive, and welcoming. Circa 1918 is one of those rare places that feels both like a hidden neighborhood gem and a fine dining experience all in one. We will definitely be back!

Initially we were told…read morethere would be a set 3 course menu because of the size of the dinner party but upon arrival they were out of many things on that menu. They were also out of the snake river Wagyu ribeye and strip steak. We were told they didn't receive a shipment of meat. The food was really good regardless of that, luckily they had three orders of lamb chops left so some of us ordered the rest of that. I like that when you order a steak it already comes with two sides. Other steakhouses you would have to order sides à la carte. The cocktails were amazing and service was great. Only thing that was a little weird was we had two birthdays and asked the manager if they happened to do a complimentary birthday dessert or something for the two birthday guest. He responded politely with we don't do any birthday desserts but you can order champagne since it's a celebration. Mind you it's a party of 12 and each couple's bill was at least 250+. Nonetheless, we had a great time and money was well spent, definitely worth trying out!

The restaurant is beautifully designed, and the staff provided professional, attentive, and friendly service throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations. While everything was presented well, the flavors were somewhat bland and lacked the level of taste and quality we anticipated for the price point. Given what we spent, we felt we could have received a more memorable dining experience elsewhere, such as Eddie V's, where both the atmosphere and flavor profile tend to align with the premium cost. Overall, the service and ambiance were highlights of the evening, but the food itself fell short of delivering the complete upscale dining experience we were expecting

I got in a little after they opened at 5p so I could sit at the bar. And their bar fills up pretty quickly. They only have about 8 or 9 chairs so get there early if that's your preferred seating. I had the Peach Whiskey smash and ordered the seafood egg rolls, garlic parm wings, and Philly cheesesteak eggrolls. My homegirl ordered the LIT. The drink was tasty (they are very exact with the liquor) however, the food was amazing!! The seafood eggrolls were so good, everyone at the bar ended up ordering them because I did! The prices are fair for happy hour. I am intrigued about the brunch now that I know the food is hittin. The vibe in there is cute and the bartender Brittany is a sweetheart. I'll definitely be back to check out more.
