This could be the worst run business I have ever seen. I had a storage unit here for about 9…read moremonths and I could not say one good thing about the place except for the fact that it was cheap. Trust me, I understand why it is cheap. Normally I would say that it is just a storage unit, so how could it vary much from others...but I was completely wrong. FIRST OFF, their hours are ridiculous. They are "convenient" for the people who work there and not the people who have units there. They close at "4:45pm" on weekdays. Like seriously, who closes at the that time? Not 6, not 5, but quarter to 5. Like a normal person, I mostly do not get out of work until 5. So them closing at 4:45 makes it convenient for NOBODY to grab stuff from their storage unit, but only makes it convenient for the people who work there to avoid rush hour traffic. SECOND, the people who work there are rude. Maria, I think is her name, acts as if you are doing her a favor by being a customer there. "I am sorry, am I not paying you for my storage unit?" One time I really had to grab something from my storage unit and they closed the gates at about 4:35. I had to drive around to the main office and when I walked in, she was standing there as if she was looking at the clock ready to lock the door and get out of there. I asked her to please open the gate so I could access my unit and she said something like "well you better hurry up." What ever happened to the days of accommodating the customer? THANKS FOR BEING SO ACCOMMODATING. I had to rush up to my unit and make sure I was out promptly before 4:45 so she could leave. What a joke. The opposite of customer service. I am in sales and I pride myself on customer service and there is nothing that aggravates me more than bad service. This was beyond bad service. THIRD, they are so cheap. One would ask "It is a storage unit... how could all of this be true for such a simple business?" Oh it is. They put no money back into their facilities, making it inconvenient for customers. The freight elevator is always broken and they never fix it. You can tell the locks on the elevators are all cheap "makeshift" locks that break, and makes it so the elevator won't work. When you enter the house that the second level units are in you have to open a garage door to get in. The thing is SO loud. Put some WD40 on it. THEN, the lights in the facility are on a timer. When I originally first got my unit, it was a 30 minute timer and almost every time I got left upstairs in my unit when the light went out. So frustrating. THEN, THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TAKE OUT THE 30 MINUTE TIMERS AND INSTALL 15 MINUTE ONES, JUST TO SAVE $$$$ ON ELECTRICITY. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!! From there on out I should have turned the dial to the full 15 minutes before I left, just to run up their electric bill. So cheap. There is also no heat or AC in the building. I mean AC, I get it, but no heat in the winter gets brutal. Put some money into the place. There was one worker there, I forget his name, but he was a very nice man. I could tell they did not treat him right, but he was a hard worker. He opened the gates for people and fixed things when they were broken. He should be praised. He was always very accommodating to me and I thank him for that. A few more things - they are are open for 4 hours and 45 minutes on Sunday. What kind of business hours are those? I mean, really? At least give me 6 hours. Also, every time you open the door to your unit, you literally have to wear ear plugs because the sound the door makes when you open and close it is so loud, it literally frightens you. As for McCarthy self storage, get ready to be inconvenienced and appalled at the level of service every time you enter the premises... that is if you can make it there during their business hours. TERRIBLE. TAKE A CLASS ON SERVICE.

I was nearly scared off using this place because of the 1-star excoriation it received from the…read moreother Yelper who's reviewed this place. However, the price and location were right, so I decided to try it anyway. After all, I could always leave if I hated it. I'm glad I did. McCarthy Self Service Storage is a decent and competitively-priced storage facility. While it shows signs of use, I find it as clean as most storage facilities I've used. Maria was working when I visited, and while she is no shrinking violet, she was pleasant and helpful. The second floor units are accessed by a flight of stairs, but your cargo can ride in the freight elevator if it's too much to carry. This feature was nice when I was there: I could load a significant portion of my truck into the freight elevator, close it up, send it upstairs, and then unload it, rather than making many trips up and down. The entrance to the elevator is outside, so you can pull your car or truck right up to it. The only thing that would make it better is some flatbed dollies and handtrucks for rolling the stuff to and from the unit, but oh well. Of course, the Achilles' Heel of this design is that only 1 person can use the fright elevator at any time, so if there had been another customer using it ahead of me, I would have had to wait, or carried my stuff up the stairs. The freight elevator has some peculiarities that Maria showed me; after following her instructions, it worked fine for me. Chris A. is correct when he states that the hours at McCarthy's are much more limited than at most storage facilities; I guess this is something you just accept or don't; there are plenty of other places that have automated code-activated gates, etc. so that you can access them on a more liberal schedule; they also cost more. He is also correct that the non-climate controlled interior reflects the comfort of the ambient temperature; again this is a take-it-or-leave-it proposition based on your needs and wants vs. willingness to pay. I had to reset the timer on the lights once during my visit; unless you are spending an oddly large amount of time in your unit, this should not be a major issue. Conclusion: McCarthy is a decent storage option for a person whose needs are compatible with what they offer.

NEGATIVE STARS RUUUUUUN from this absolute SHAM business…read more I had to get this storage space through my company as they were relocating me to the UK, and at the time, it was privately owned. This is the THIRD owner of this space and it is an absolute RACKET. DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT ever use this business!!!!!!! not only are they unprofessional bordering on criminal with their policies (they sold the company and let me know the day of that it was sold and there was zero option to opt out of the new owners, change payment, do anything) the space is seriously not kept up at all - there was a roof leak recently and my space was damaged because there is nothing over the individual spaces but the main gigantic roof which has major water issues especially in winter (hello New England) STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRIMINAL EXTORTIONIST EVIL COMPANY the absolute WORST! won't protect your belongings, takes zero responsibility for their SOLE purpose, evil evil evil extortionist assholes. Great deal! Such nice customer service from Debbie , she's amazing and funny. And Dylan, so helpful…read moreand nice. They are both happy to explain how things work. This place is super clean and modern looking. Easy to access, lots of parking and drive-up bays. My Favorite thing is probably late-night access(closes at 10pm) so I can come here after work. Great work. Keep it up and thanks for a great experience. Also, it's super close to Wegmans;)

12.13.25 Approx. 330pm…read more Where do I even begin??? This storage facility was awesome back when it was Medford storage. The workers then were amazing. And they actually cared! Now that it's EXTRA SPACE STORAGE, the workers are completely incompetent. First off, the whole place was cold. The heat wasn't on at all. And had a very strong smell of weed lingering around. Zero ventilation! Second off, we were offloading a very heavy tool box in a box truck. There are 3 regular bays for smaller loads for SUVs or cars. There are 2 additional bay doors for trucks as the loading dock is higher. When we arrived the loading dock we needed was being utilized by a SUV, NOT a truck. I went inside and asked the workers if it was one of their employees, they said no it wasn't. I said ok cool no problem, we will just patiently wait for it to free up. The people who owned this SUV weren't there actively unloading or loading their vehicle. They used it as a parking spot for the next 1.5 hours as we sat there and waited like idiots. The workers knew which section their unit was located in as they can see from the CCTV. Did the workers take a walk to find the owners of the said SUV to have them move their car? NOPE. They sat there and did absolutely nothing. They didn't help aid the situation of common storage etiquette. If you aren't actively using the bay doors, don't use it as a parking space. Kindly move your vehicle until you need it again. Especially if the bay door is meant for a TRUCK! It's just common courtesy. Third off, when this big heavy tool box came crashing down it made a loud boom, not one person came running over to check on us to see if we were ok or needed help. I get that it's a self storage facility but we could have gotten hurt not having the proper loading dock accessible. Fourth off, the new parking lot layout is just dumb. Random islands in the middle make it hard to get a truck in there. Like, why?! Fifth off, the far left dock where we were at, the door kept malfunctioning! We were actively offloading it kept shutting down on us about every 2-3 minutes!! Which is a huge safety issue!! Somebody should call OSHA as I'm sure that's a violation! When we first moved in we were given a set of rules and policies. Basic storage facility etiquette. Why can't people follow these same policies? Do people not have brains nowadays?!

To make matters worse, I had reserved two pieces of moving equipment, only to be told they were out of stock. That is completely unacceptable. If the equipment is available only on a first-come, first-served basis, customers should not be allowed to reserve it in advance. The customer service was equally disappointing. While one employee was kind enough to offer me their own dolly and seemed genuinely understanding, every other employee we interacted with was rude and unprofessional. They talked over both my husband and I, were dismissive, and had an attitude throughout the entire experience. The drop-off process was no better. One employee remained on the phone and didn't acknowledge my husband or I for about 10 minutes, only to tell us she couldn't help because she was still on the call. About five minutes later, another employee came out and rudely informed us that we could have just left the keys in the vehicle and walked away. It would have been nice if someone had communicated that to us from the beginning instead of leaving us standing there waiting. Overall, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had. I will not be returning to this location, and I would not recommend it to others.

Liviu and his small, agile crew were the best movers I have ever worked with, and like most city dwellers, I have moved a lot! Liviu managed my move from South Boston to the South Shore with professionalism, courtesy and efficiency. Liviu delivers on all those factors.

(Focus specializes in piano moving, and I needed my childhood piano + a few other miscellaneous items transported from Massachusetts to New York.) Owner Liviu responded to my initial quote query (which was competitive) nearly immediately and within the hour confirmed he'd be able to meet my timing needs, despite the holiday season. Furthermore, though I provided a 5-6 day window, he offered to complete the move on MY ideal date. Sweet. What was great about the move itself? My mom indicated that Liviu and his right hand man showed up at her home at the exact appointed hour and that they carefully packed and protected all of the items that were to be trucked. In fact she let me know that Liviu and crew "were the best movers" she'd ever used and that she'd be using them for her own upcoming entire-home move. A bold statement, considering she's moved a LOT. Liviu was also a fab communicator. He kept me informed of his whereabouts via text message, sent email reminders and arrived on time at my delivery location as well. Additionally, Focus stuck to its quote (and then some, as Liviu delivered a couple of other less heavy items on the house without a quote adjustment), damaged nothing in transit and carefully yet swiftly manned my heavy upright Yamaha into its new abode. Thanks Focus Moving! : )
