I believe the cons outweighed the pros during our visit to Luxor, a unique noraebang (Korean karaoke establishment) in Duluth. Three stars is still okay, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan of this joint just yet. I called and made a reservation for 20 people on a Saturday night at 10pm. I was told over the phone that our group would get the biggest room in the house. When we arrived, on time, this was not the case. I think we got maybe the 2nd or 3rd largest room in the place. We got Room #6 which is a rectangular-shaped room with a long table running down the middle and an open, U-shaped couch lining three of the walls. This couch could seat 16 people max and we were all sitting rather snug. When all of our group was there, this meant that some people had to stand. Fail. It was already a bit uncomfortable for the 16 of us who were seated just to get up and move around, pass the mic and song book, order/grab drinks and food, etc. Due to our large group size, we were told there was a two-bottle minimum for the room. Bottles start at $100 per. We ordered Johnnie Walker ($100) and Grey Goose ($120). These two bottles got us 4 hours of karaoke. After tax and automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill, our total was about $300 for the room. For 20 people, this works out to only $15 per person, so it's actually a very good deal. (We were actually a few short of 20, so our per person total was higher.) Those two bottles weren't enough for our group, so we ordered an extra bottle (Crown Royal, $120). Someone in our group already paid for this bottle in advance, separately as soon as he ordered it. At the end, when it came time to pay the bill for the entire room, I was presented with a ticket with all 3 bottles on it. We almost got double-charged for the bottle of Crown! If we didn't question the staff about the extraneous line item, we would have paid an extra $120+ for nothing. After bringing this mistake to the staff's attention, they seemed apologetic. I just don't know for sure if it was an honest mistake or not. Apart from the small room size and billing discrepancy, some other things I did not like about Luxor were: (1) song selection access and (2) smoke. Actually, smoky environments don't bother me *that* much, but I thought it would be worth noting. Like Ai Tunes, Sound of Music, and other NRBs, Luxor has a restaurant/lounge/bar-type area outside the karaoke rooms where people can order food, drinks, and just hang out. It's smoky in this area, so be forewarned. I think Luxor actually has a good song selection, but accessing all these songs is a pain For example, I noticed they had Adele's Skyfall theme song in their database on the same weekend the Skyfall movie premiered. That's pretty impressive. Unfortunately, the song book only had a mere fraction of the songs that were actually in the system. Not only that, but there was only one remote for the entire room (and it was written in Korean) so it was bothersome to hand off the remote due to the aforementioned spacing issues, plus we had to keep asking our Korean friends to help operate the remote for us. All these issues aside, Luxor does have some great things going for it. While this place is super Korean and caters mainly to young Korean clientele, the staff are also young and Korean and thus, typically speak and understand English well. Everyone seemed friendly and attentive and service to our room was generally good. Each bottle of alcohol ordered came with regular glasses, shot glasses, mixers (Coca-Cola and cranberry juice), and platefuls of fruit and snacks. The fruit plate was beautifully presented and included pineapple, watermelon, grapes, oranges, kiwi, and strawberry. The snack plate had peanuts, seaweed, cuttlefish (win), banana chips, and a couple other extras. All of that was very nice and among the best snacks I've seen at any Atlanta-area KTV. The theme of this place is awesome. It's like you're singing karaoke in an Egyptian pyramid complete with wall carvings and hieroglyphics. Yes, it sounds bizarre and that's because it is. Outside the door of each the rooms are colored lights. They blink and light up when people are inside singing. Inside, the rooms have plenty of fun, colorful lighting from lasers to strobes to rotating, light-up disco balls. Our room had one big TV at one end and two smaller TVs in the corners of the opposite end. In general, the setup was nice -- we just had too many people for the room. The sound and video quality were good. One fellow Yelper described Luxor as it being "the Clermont of karaoke joints." I wouldn't go so far as to say that. The actual build-out is nice, but I did notice an exceptional number of drunk people here. There was vomit on the floors of both the men's and women's restrooms. Apparently, this is the karaoke joint to come to if you want to get wasted. As my friend CJ told me, Luxor is more of a place to drink rather than to karaoke. read more

The location of Luxor is kind of odd. It's behind a shopping plaza where you have to go around to spot them. I love coming here ever since college; I didn't know why it took me so long to give them a review. Came here on a Tuesday night with the girls and our bartender was amazing. We went through so many round of shots and she was amazing. Apparently she was the only working but we didn't wait at all. 5 girls and our tab was $600!!! Chill place to hang out, drink, and karaoke. I mainly go for karaoke but the bf and his friends go for the drinks. They have YouTube rooms so I like that. And the rooms are all separate. They have a bar area in the front of you just want to grab a beer or two with some friends. Their food is amazing! Def get the chicken gizzard and ask for extra hot sauce because one isn't enough! Please don't leave any bags or valuables visible -- your car WILL get broken into. If you're in a big party, make sure you check and recheck your bill. They WILL double charge or tell you that you didn't pay when in fact, it was paid for. (This has happened twice to me) I really liked coming here but after this last visit of my car getting broken into AND them charging me $232 for a tab that was already closed (& actually was $136.74) it's left a bad taste in my mouth. I thought it was just me but after reading the comments and speaking to other friends I have confirmed they just rip people off. We spontaneously came during a late night and ordered a couple of drinks by the bar. We ordered at last call (2:30AM). The drinks were decent, the people were not. Luxor closes at 3. We were still working on our drinks when it hit 3. But as if 3 were some magical number, their juvenile teenybopper staff started making rude, snide remarks beside us. (Not the people behind the bar.) "HEY, WE'RE F***ING CLOSED NOW." "JUST WAITING FOR SOME PEOPLE TO GTFO SO I CAN GO HOME." Those were some of the phrases the girls were calling out loudly beside us, without speaking to us directly. It was abhorrent. The way they were acting, you'd think they were underaged. Please keep in mind, there were still other groups in the establishment. But apparently that was fine because they all seemed to know one another. We left without finishing our drinks. It was 3:10AM. We could've appreciated a "Hey, we're closing down now so we'll need you to wrap up." Nope. Just catty, childish remarks. If this place has an issue with customers staying 10 minutes past closing, then maybe you can go ahead and shut down when you lose all your customers with your crappy service. I came to Luxor for the first time on a Tuesday night with my good friend and my boyfriend. It wasn't busy. We were the only other group in house, but I believe we were the only ones with our own room that night. Honestly I feel like Luxor could really use some renovations, and it's very obvious they are overdue. I feel like the establishment itself is only 2 star worthy, but because of the fantastic customer service from Kirsten and Alfo I'm giving Luxor 4 stars. They essentially save this ran down karaoke bar by being friendly and great bartenders. I'm not going to lie; I left very inebriated, and I even had a breakdown because I had just lost someone very close and dear to me, but through it all these ladies still put up with my complete and utter madness lol. Thank you ladies for the assist in trying to fill the void that I was left with. As for the establishment itself, I've definitely been to better karaoke bars. We were in room 11 which must have been one of their smaller rooms, but there was plenty of space for the three of us. When we first got there one of our microphones wasn't working and the other was so extremely loud with an echo that went on for miles. The call button in the room was also not working, so every time we needed help or needed a drink we had to get up and go to the bar. Honestly that wasn't a huge deal for us since we're all pretty easy going, and the bar wasn't too far from our room. It just would have been more convenient for us to have the call button. Their selection of English songs to sing is actually really limited compared to some other karaoke bars I've visited. This is also the first karaoke bar I've been to that barely had one page of Vietnamese songs, which was a huge disappointment as well. We even tried the search feature, but they really need to update their song list. The English songs they did have were all really bad instrumental versions which completely ruined a lot of the classics that we love to karaoke to, so I didn't really have the best time karaoking here. Like I said Kirsten and Alfo saved the ratings. My boyfriend's wallet fell out of his pocket that night, and Alfo was nice enough to actually look for it after I called a few days later, and set it aside for us to pick up later in the week. Kudos! I don't see myself coming back here to karaoke unless they decide to renovate and update their song list though. read more

This place can be a lot of fun. Just dont go with your judgemental friends. Karaoke should be a comment free zone, just enjoy and sing your heart out. That being said this place has a great range of songs from new to old in English and Korean. The best way to do it when you go to this place in particular is to order a bottle. Instead of paying $20 an hour we split the bottle among our group and with the bottle got 2 hours of singing, a mixer, and a fruit plate included. read more

My review of this place is very conflicted for several reasons. First of all, this place is gorgeous and it's great for groups, but it is extra smokey, which I absolutely hate...but that wasn't even the deal breaker. second of all the service was absolutely horrible. The workers completely ignore you if they think that you have no money. It took a good half hour before a waiter got to our table. And they never even checked on us...we had to keep returning to the bar. But the worst part of all is that they handed us old menus and never honored the prices that was on the older menus. I had to speak to a manager and complain about this and they still tried to make me pay different prices. First off, my review isn't for their karaoke (I know, it's the classic I'm a vegetarian and I'm at a steak house kind of situation). Our group of 4 were finishing up our dinner at nearby Sun and Moon but wanted someplace to hang out, drink and extend our once a year get togethers by a few more hours when someone mentioned Luxor. Since we were not doing karaoke, we found ourselves squished into a booth near the bar. There was another large group on the other side of the room as well. We ordered 2 drinks each and a plate of fruit. We only stayed for about an hour and half if even and left a little after midnight. I was surprised that the bill was close to $90 for what we got, that was almost as much as dinner! The service was ok, but it's pretty evident that this is a much younger crowd. Also, if you are sensitive to cigarette smoke, i wouldn't suggest coming here. I'm not sure if their filter system works, but the smoke basically just stayed in the air. read more

It's an Asian Bar/Karaoke restaurant. Can't comment on the Karaoke rooms, as I usually just meet up with friends to drink and chill out. Liqour selection is better than the beer selection. Not sure why Koreans prefer wattery beer, but don't expect much more than lite beers on tap. Try some of their various soju flavors and I recommend you get a fruit plate to balance out the alcohol. Tables are usually roomy and can sit anywhere from 4 to 10 depending on how large your party is. They offer ash trays for the smokers, and there's usually Kpop playing over the music system and several TVs with Kpop videos on them. Decor is a bit odd, with an Egyptian theme...and I could swear there's a few odd hieroglyphics in the bathrooms, though oddly funny considering what they depict. read more

Came here for karaoke. A large room is $30/hr and they didn't give us a real karaoke option until we asked, instead it was just a screen projected with YouTube which was an additional $10. The back screens of karaoke also didn't work so it seemed like a set up we could've just recreated at home for free. The room was clean but parts of the wall were broken and dusty. read more

I've been here more than a handful of times, but never because I chose this location for karaoke. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is that the place reeks of cigarettes. I'm not a fan of stinky places like this one. However, apparently some of my friends know the bartenders and supposedly get "great" deals on drinks. My aforementioned friends like to come here primarily to indulge in the various pricey alcoholic drinks they offer, including yogurt soju and liquor by the bottle, since they have a full bar. Other friends have wanted to check out the individual noraebangs (private karaoke rooms). The main bar/lounge area is where many customers just chill, smoke, and drink. A while back, I tried the yogurt soju, which was yummy. How could yogurt + soju NOT taste good? It was served in a large bowl with a ladle and shot glasses, but I have no idea how much something that would cost since someone else paid for it. I wouldn't even want to know how much it cost... Recently, a friend had organized karaoke night here for 10 pm on a Saturday night. He had called ahead and asked to reserve a room large enough for a group of 20. It turned out that there only about 15 of us, but the room they gave us was probably meant for a group of 10. We were definitely squeezing to allow everyone to sit. Not cool. My friend had also asked if this was the largest room, and the server said it was. Later, I passed by a room and peeked in because the door was open. It was MUCH larger and was occupied. Made me wonder if the group inside had made a reservation before my friend did. They better have... Although I'm not entirely sure how much the regular hourly rate for the room was, my friend said that they had a special - buy two bottles of liquor (minimum of $100 each) and get the room for four hours. We thought this sounded pretty reasonable, so we got bottles of Grey Goose and Johnny Walker. Apparently, this special included several cans of Coke, a fruit plate, and a snack ("anju") plate. The fruit was fresh and tasty, and the snacks were decent, too. I've never tried any of their other menu items since they're overpriced. Unfortunately, the song selection was not up-to-date. And for a moment, my friends and I almost had a heart attack when we couldn't find Psy's "Gangnam Style." Fortunately, we found "Psy" spelled in Korean instead of English (as it usually is) and found our song. At least they had THAT song. =P Overall, Luxor Restaurants gets 2.5 stars for being slightly better than "meh" but not quite "OK," in Yelp terms. My friends who had wanted to check out Luxor (it wasn't MY idea!) were disappointed and expressed that they wouldn't come back. I don't blame them. Their ladies restroom was running out of toilet paper, not being restocked, and the trash bin was seriously a mountain of paper towels and overflowing by around 1 pm. Yuck. I wouldn't recommend Luxor - unless, of course, you're best friends with the owner(s)/bartender(s) and they give you deals on drinks. Definitely don't come here just for karaoke. My biggest concern with this place was their service. Our group has never been to a karaoke restaurant, so when we had questions, they were reluctant to help us. When we arrived, they led us to a room and didn't ask if we needed anything. They mumbled when I asked for help. The gentleman that helped us seemed upset when I came out to switch the controller from Korean to English. I came out a second time to ask for assistance because our new controller would not work, and the same gentleman sighed out of annoyance. They were all busy looking at their phones and not attentive when I came out for a drink at the bar. Place also has the stench of cigarettes. This place was a horrible first experience for our group and I don't plan on ever returning. Music selection isn't really up to date and price per hour for a room is $20. read more

Went here for karaoke and the setup is really nice. The karaoke system was a lot easier to use than other places and hallways are pretty cool. Service isn't good though, and they include a 20% tip. They probably just don't care because they'll get their tip no matter the service. read more

Came to Luxor on Saturday night to celebrate a 21st birthday. We were told that if we purchase a bottle then we would get 2 free hours of karaoke. So we made a reservation for ten people. When we arrived we had a spacious room and the nice host helped us decipher the remote so we could begin singing. Our bottle arrived and it came with complementary fruits. We ordered wings, fries, and mozzarella sticks! They came out and the food was deliciously cooked! We ended up getting three bottles in total and each bottle came with fruit and the 2 hours of karaoke. June took care of us that night and we promised him we would go back because Luxor was so much fun! Since my boyfriend had turned 21 June brought him a drink on the house! Our group cannot stop talking about how much we enjoyed ourselves! I enjoyed this location in comparison to other karaoke bars because the people were nice and helpful and not to mention attentive! We paid a reasonable amount considering the 3 bottles and the food we had. We WILL be back! read more

I've been here since 2011 and needed to find a good Korean bar to hang out at. I'm African-American and it's difficult to find a Asian bar where they don't discriminate or act racist. But this place throws that out the window!! I'm a regular here now and I can say it's my favorite place for the entertainment and the prices. If you want to have a fun night come here on the weekends after 10:30pm. There's a lot of new people to meet and K-Pop and music video are always playing. Being that I'm a regular here I can say from experience this is a good place and the staff and owner are always friendly. read more
