If I had seen the yelp reviews beforehand, I may not have gone in. We were on our way to Lovely Nails down the street, which had an hour wait for anything. Lee (my favorite technician at Lovely Nails), wasn't even there. So my cousin suggested we come here, and lucky for guys, they were able to take us right away. I asked for a pedicure & a UV gel full set, and my cousin got a pedicure. I asked for the pedicure first, since that was all that she was getting done, but for whatever reason, they did not do this (i was insistent, too). The full set went very well though! I was afraid, because when she was initially shaping and buffing my nails, they were BEYOND crooked. she assured me that they would look better afterward, and I wasn't sure if I believed her because she assured me that I could get the pedicure first. And that didn't happen. But they look great. I am in love. And $40 is a great price, but I am comparing to my $35 acrylic full sets, and $50 UV gel full sets in NYC. read more

I booked an appointment with alex and when I showed up he was running behind and said someone else would start my nails and he would finish them. he asked if I was doing gel x and immediately seemed disinterested that I wasn't which makes sense now given their entire instrgam page is influencer videos of them getting gel x but I also don't look like an influencer so maybe that's why. I agreed thinking the person would just be soaking off my old gel and alex would do the rest. alex LEFT during the middle of my appointment and nobody told me. alex didn't do my nails and the guy who did, did not soak them off which is the proper way to remove gel, and drilled my nailbeds down to the point where they bend like paper and filed my sidewalls so much that I'm going to have to cut all of my nails down after i've spent months growing them. I didn't question the drilling because i was assuming he was just getting off the bulk before soaking. i'm a hairdresser so i'm trained in nails and nothing about the builder gel "manicure" I got was done correctly. it wasn't even a manicure because there was no cuticle work or proper nail prep. he didn't time the gel cure either so I have no idea if the gel is even fully cured and my hands and nails have been itchy since I left, and he flooded my cuticles and acted like I was the problem for saying that there is gel touching my skin and that it can cause contact dermatitis and infection. and let me remind you again, the nail tech I booked with LEFT during my appointment. when I spoke up about the fact that I made an appointment specifically with alex they told me he came in sick this morning and that they were too busy to call me to tell me this and brushed it off and acted like it wasn't a big deal and that it didn't matter who did my nails or how. oh and when my nail tech found out i'm a hairdresser he just complained to me about his job. I ended up just having them put a clear coat on and left because I was almost in tears after watching him destroy my nails. I paid $105 to get my long beautiful natural nails destroyed and to cry in my car in the parking lot. thanks lux nails. maybe this is on me for not cancelling when he said he was running behind but things happen and I tried to be accommodating as it was my very first appointment and didn't know how things worked there. absolutely awful communication skills and even worse customer service. they also don't clean their gel lamps and the "skin safe led" made my hands burn. this is a chop shop so don't expect anything other than chop shop quality. read more

I have gone here multiple times to get my nails done. I haven't had any problems until my last appmt when I was cut badly on my finger from the nail drill. The nail tech was very apologetic as it was an accident, but I had concerns with cleanliness and possible infection on my finger. The nail tech continued to do my nails after applying some sort of ointment to stop the bleeding that burned very bad. There was no prompt to wash my hands or cleaning of tools after my finger was cut. This was a big chunk out of my finger and not just some small cuticle cut. Updated review****** Have been coming here since 2015. Changed owners 2 months ago. I received the worst gel manicure of my life. It was so bad I had to have it redone immediately. On top of that, the prices increased from $30 to $40 for a regular gel manicure and $35 to $50 for a French manicure. Not worth the money if it is not perfect. I'd rather go right across the street to lovely nails where it is just as good, gives a more luxurious pedicure and is average cost for the area. Have been going there for my nails for 1 year now every 2 weeks, very convenient since I live next door. However, the last 2 sessions with one girl has been awful - nicked my fingers multiple times and yanked my arms. Totally rush and not relaxing. When I approached Tim the owner today to get a different girl, he was very rude and dismissed that this happened and didn't offer any apology. I won't be going back again. Went in for last minute dip since my nail lady was fully booked. The worst job I've ever had done on my nails. Literally my nails are uneven and the dip is so poorly applied. I had to tell the lady to give me an extra coat of the dip powder because had she left it how she was going to, you would've been able to see through the color. Came here with a friend to get a full set and pedi. Everything about my full set was a disappointment. Nails were put on crooked--pinky nail on left hand looks the worst. Nails were not filed straight, and if you compare the fingers on both of my hands, they are all varying lengths. Spent $120 total. The last photo I am including was the photo I brought in for my nail tech to reference to see what I wanted. As you can tell, what I got for nail art was not even close to what was shown. I wish she had just said from the start that she didn't think she could execute that, because I was have said to just skip it. She asked what I thought of my nails and if I liked them, no exciting exclamation came out of my mouth and I never said yes. I felt bad and honestly didn't want to cause a problem. My pedicure was fine, but once they switched me to a new nail tech for the full set, it all went down hill. I won't be returning. My friend also received horribly shaped nails from another nail tech. She asked for short coffin and was left with two square thumbs. We were there for 2.5 hours and I honestly just wanted to cry at the end of it because they took so long and I just wanted to get home at that point so I didn't want to ask her to spend more time fixing it. Drove an hour to meet with my friend there and felt worse for her because she engagement photos tomorrow. Thankfully hers were not as bad as mine though. Usually nail techs (or the nice ones I have had) inquire throughout the whole process if I like the shape, color, etc. I wish she had stopped to ask these questions. I watched her eyeing my nails and comparing the sizes of the nails on both hands and thought she knew what she was doing since she seemed so confident, but that was so far off. If I could could give them zero stairs I would...I'm ashamed I didn't walk out and stayed and got my nails down (I guess I was desperate). First, it's very hard to find a nail salon in the West Roxbury/Dedham area that does the power dip as good as NYC. I thought I found a place after I discovered Tony here. He is technician but the place is poorly managed and the other technicians are rude. I booked my noon appointment with Tony TWO WEEKS IN ADVANCE. I show up promptly at noon and they had me wait 25 minutes. Then they told me that I have to do my pedicure first and Tony will do my power dip manicure afterwards because Tony was "backed up. It took an hour and a half for my pedicure (yes, I said an HOUR AND A HALF for a simple pedicure). When I finished my pedicure I still had to wait 30 minutes for Tony to take me!!! Total time = 3hrs. After sitting under ultra violet and fan for over 30 minutes my nails were still wet. Sprayed them with drying spray and went home. Now over an hour later they are still sticky and lumpy. Worst paint job I've ever had. First layer she painted literally only about 3/4 of the nail and when I said something she got mad and said the second layer would cover it. It was so bad that I said no it won't- so she painted over it and still left quite a bit of nail unpainted. Even with the supposed second layer you could still see my natural nail both at base and edges. I had to make her paint the sides and she was mad at each finger I pointed out. Now I have extra thick polish in some parts, exposed nail in others and paint all over my fingers . A child could have done a better job. I don't think even with glasses she could see or she just stinks at her job. Won't return here. Horrible. read more

My sister and I went in last night, with an appointment made. When going in we both had asked for dip nails, her needing her acrylics taken off. While trimming my nails my real nail was cut very short and she took nail glue to glue my nail back to my finger. Both nail artists were very rushed and eager to get out for the night. The woman who did my nails knew she messed up and even took off polish of half my nail, and only replaced it with a clear coat. All nails are discolored and she immediately packed up to leave after knowing she made many mistakes. My sister even asked multiple times for mistakes to be fixed and the woman doing hers did not listen to her concerns. Most of the acrylic was not taken off due to rushing and many chips and unevenness in her nails. We will not be returning read more

Just started working in dedham and I needed my nails done badly. I was desperate I guess. I regret coming here. They took me right away for a dip manicure. The way she did my dip, I've never seen done before. They put a gel top coat instead of the regular dip top coat which I thought was weird. I got my eyelashes done here and it turned into the worst customer service experience of my life. I asked for a partial set of natural-looking eyelashes. I stressed this, as I work in the natural beauty industry - which Angela knew. Once she was finished, however, I looked in the mirror to see a full-set of very dramatic lashes that looked so artificial that it bordered theatrical. THIS WAS NOT THE SERVICE I AGREED TO. I asked her to take them off. She obliged saying she could CUT THEM or take them off. Not once did she offer to re-do them. Cutting them down would've looked ridiculous, so of course I had them removed! When she rang me up, however, she charged me the original price ($150) of the full-set service WHICH WE NEVER AGREED UPON.. but wait, it gets worse.... After peacefully trying to reason with her that I shouldn't pay for a faulty service that disregarded my wants, she CALLED THE COPS ON ME, WHAT???! I have NEVER been so mistreated by a business. I've been coming here for months, and strongly discourage anyone from patronizing this salon. I feel shaky still from the incredible stress they caused. Angela, the owner, is a manipulative liar and clearly sets the tone for this toxic "business." They do not care about their customers. Shame on you, Lux Nails and Spa. This is the first review I have ever written and for good reason. My friend and I came here for pedicures and a full set. The tech I was with did not check the water temperature of the pedicure basin and it was so hot that it was intolerable and nearly burnt my feet and the whole service felt rushed. When it came to my nails, I asked for short coffin. The shape was super inconsistent, my thumbs were square, and my ring finger nail is so crooked that it is hitting the nail on my middle finger when I put my fingers together. The other techs kept hovering over my tech and made me feel like she was very inexperienced and it made me very uncomfortable to say anything. She also did not properly prep the cuticle and just took the e file to them and she cut my thumbs up pretty badly and didn't even acknowledge it. I got my nails done for my engagement photos and I had to go home and reshape these nails just for them to be presentable. I hope this review saves someone else from a terrible experience. read more

At my favorite salon, I've been getting dip there for almost 2 years, and even though it's more expensive, they can last on my nail for almost 3-4 weeks and help my nails grow out! With the dip, they dip your nails 2-3 times in the color of your choice, seal it with a dip clear goal, and apply the clear coat on the top of the nail to allow it to be strong. Tim started doing my nails with the NUGENESIS powder, and he only dipped my nails TWICE in the powder, then pulls out a UV light, tells me to put my hands in FIVE times to "set" the nails. I've never in my life had to use any type UV lamp to cure dip. The whole point of the Dip is for people that DON'T want UV??!! I questioned it a lot, but I figured that he was the "professional" and maybe they were using a technique that was better/recommended by the dip powder manufacturer.. I left the salon, and TWO hours later, my first nail chipped while I tried to take my seat belt off in the car. I was very bummed because I paid $45 dollars for nails I was expecting to last all month, but I figured it was my fault and tried to be more careful . Then, 45 minutes later, my other nail BROKE after I took off my sweater. I was PISSED. At this point, I was going to go next thing tomorrow when I got out of work and ask if I could redo the nails that broke (they were closed at this point). I woke up with the worst BURNING sensation I've ever had on my fingers!! I couldn't even squeeze the tips of my fingers together because they were so sore! Apparently, after sticking my nails under the UV lamp 5 times in a row for a total of 5 minutes. I actually got a UV burn!! I didn't even know that was POSSIBLE. I was LIVID. I now had to go to work with 6 painful fingers, 2 broken/chipped nails after paying $50 (I tipped). I went down there with documentation from the MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE that gives the correct steps for applying their dip powder. Tim literally did 2 out of the 6-7 steps. He didn't use the base powder, sealing powder, and most importantly, the correct top coat that is supposed to harden the dip and AIR DRY. The product description states "NO UV", painless and DURABLE. Despite my awful experience, not ONCE was I rude to these people. I've never had to asked for my money back and I've never returned to a nail salon with a burn!! The older lady who took off my nails (they took it off to give me my refund). They wanted to cut corners and take peoples money. I wish they close down and they bring back the frozen yogurt place that used to be there. Nothing but rude staff that don't know what they are doing.
