Lillie Alexander Boutique has horrible customer service!!!…read more I ordered some shoes that appeared hugely darker online than they were when they arrived. They were on sale but, the website picture was in no way representative of the actual color of the shoes and they were labeled as dark burgundy. They turned out to be a dark fuscia if anything but definitely not dark burgundy however they appeared that color online which is why I purchased them. I called them to inquire why the email I had written about the issue had not been answered. They refused to acknowledge their misrepresentation of the shoes and gave NO explanation for not responding to my email. They would not hear of a refund for these horrible colored shoes or even store credit. I see this issue as it is: false advertising. I am displeased. Being a diehard online shopper, I have never purchased from a company that is totally insensitive when they have misled their customers. Never again will I shop there and I notify others to steer clear, as well.

Every time I shop there they take the time to give their opinion, helping me put an awesome gift together. They have really cool merchandise that allows you to buy something for any and everyone, any occasion too! Didn't rate 5 stars because one of the employees was rude when I asked if I could return the broken wine glass they sold me the day before that was part of a set. She said with attitude that I got it for "dirt cheap" so I can't return anything. I found another kind employee to help me. If you need help, steer clear of the girl with the longer blonde hair, kind of a grumpy face/demeanor who spends her days rummaging through clearance/broken merchandise in the back of the store warehouse...where she should be.

UPDATE MARCH 2017 Since their move south a couple blocks to…read morethe spot across the street from the newish Mickey Finn's, Serendipity seems to have really upped their game. They are a favorite place to stop on First Fridays, when I can hardly get in the door! And the stream of new and fun fashions and accessories is non-stop. Service is friendly and personal, too. Still one of my favorite stops. This is like shopping in a dear friend's great closet. Although the store is tiny, the variety always surprises me, and the service can't be beat. I find interesting items I find nowhere else, and while their prices are consistent with other stores, their sale items make them more affordable. There is even a comfortable place to sit! I have purchased tops, purses, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, and other items. Easy to miss since it is north of Casa Bonita and before the train tracks, up a couple of stairs. But with such a uniquely-vintage location and terrific items and service, it is worth the extra steps. Easy parking right in front, or in the copious parking lots around the corner on Lake Street. No I do not work for them - I am just a huge fan and want to be sure they stay in town!

I am IN LOVE with the Mustard Seed. It first caught my attention because it is a fair trade shop…read more Turns out that it is run by volunteers so the money earned goes directly to the artists. The people who make the goods here are from all over -- from Chili to Ghana. When I purchase gifts, they often include brief information about the artist as well as the shop. Friends and family -- including my super cool teenage nieces and my mom -- who have received gifts from this store before are always excited when they see the familiar box. In fact, this Christmas I did the majority of my shopping here. They carry an amazing array of jewelry. From beautiful beaded necklaces to metal cuffs to swingy earrings. They also carry clothing (sweaters were a huge item this winter), colored scarves (I can't get enough!), wooden bowls, purses, blankets, rugs, wall decor, children's items and frames. During the holidays they even carry ornaments. I've posted a pic of a couple of them. The people who volunteer here are extremely nice and dedicated to helping the artists they show -- often women trying to support their families. But when buying here be prepared for a slow process. Because they are volunteers it's not like walking into a well oiled retail shop. But who really cares? It feels great to help out people who are trying to help themselves (hint -- it's the artist) and give gifts that have meaning to me and the recipient. It's been an amazing teaching tool for my nieces while giving them things they love. Hmmm. I think it's time for a new fashion scarf. Can't stay away too long!
