They are a favorite place to stop on First Fridays, when I can hardly get in the door! And the stream of new and fun fashions and accessories is non-stop. Service is friendly and personal, too. Still one of my favorite stops. This is like shopping in a dear friend's great closet. Although the store is tiny, the variety always surprises me, and the service can't be beat. I find interesting items I find nowhere else, and while their prices are consistent with other stores, their sale items make them more affordable. There is even a comfortable place to sit! I have purchased tops, purses, outerwear, scarves, jewelry, and other items. Easy to miss since it is north of Casa Bonita and before the train tracks, up a couple of stairs. But with such a uniquely-vintage location and terrific items and service, it is worth the extra steps. Easy parking right in front, or in the copious parking lots around the corner on Lake Street. No I do not work for them - I am just a huge fan and want to be sure they stay in town!

Every time I shop there they take the time to give their opinion, helping me put an awesome gift together. They have really cool merchandise that allows you to buy something for any and everyone, any occasion too! Didn't rate 5 stars because one of the employees was rude when I asked if I could return the broken wine glass they sold me the day before that was part of a set. She said with attitude that I got it for "dirt cheap" so I can't return anything. I found another kind employee to help me. If you need help, steer clear of the girl with the longer blonde hair, kind of a grumpy face/demeanor who spends her days rummaging through clearance/broken merchandise in the back of the store warehouse...where she should be.

I…read morethink that $800 is an insane price to spend on a sweater, even it was woven from the hair of an alpaca that was hand-plucked by virgins holding a single pair tweezers. Or whatever story justifies a price tag like that. Anyway, places like this just make me uncomfortable. The staff at the Lake Forest Shop also struck me as almost entirely bonkers. Most seemed unhappy at least, and definitely a little off. However, if you need a fabulous gown on short notice and won't shudder at an astronomical price, this is a place you can go to get that done. Alterations and all. My mother picked out the dress that she wore to my wedding off the rack at the Lake Forest Shop on September 2nd for a wedding on September 18th. She tried it on 3 times, held it for 4 days until I flew in, and then had me see her in it before she bought it because of the sticker. (I was thinking something with a motor in it should come with the dress.) But to be fair, my mom has not looked that good in a dress since her wedding to my stepfather. She looked just bangin'. The dress took 15 years off of her, easily. I think she deserved to spoil herself like that. She's earned it. My mom is petite, so they had to bring up the skirt and tighten the neckline around her back, but nothing major. After my mom picked up the dress, she got a frantic call from her alterations specialist about a thread. When she talked to alterations, she told her to bring back the dress. This was the Wednesday before the wedding. My mom was busy all morning with runs to the airport and getting her hair done. I took back the dress when I was supposed to be getting my marriage license. Turns out there was a miscommunication, and nothing was wrong with the dress. The ladies at the front desk were laughing about it as if it were funny. That just ticked me off. Maybe some people who come into that store have nothing but time on their hands, but that isn't me, and it definitely wasn't me the week of my wedding. They supposedly found something with the zipper they wanted to fix, though, which they did in 15 minutes or so. If you're LF and proud and need a fabulous dress, this is definitely a store for you. It's just not quite the store for me.

It's been just over 6 months since my terrible experience with Lake Forest Shop. To this day,…read moreordering me a brand new dress would have been the professional and appropriate way to handle their unacceptable actions. I bought a formal dress abt 6 weeks before it arrived in the store. I was forced to pay a Rush Fee. They put a seamstress that clearly had no idea how to work with the dress. Very lil alterations were needed to it. I came in two times for the shortening of the train and what were supposed to be just placing cups and very minor alterations by the hips. Well, I came a third time to simply pick it up and bring on a plane with me. They had it all wrapped up to go on the plane, so, I didn't bother trying it on, again. The last alteration was only to be placement of the cups, basically. I brought the very expensive dress on the plane and didn't open the bag till I arrived in Washington DC. I took one look at it and saw the very drastic errors made to the neck of the dress which was never to be touched in the first place. It couldn't be worn at all to the wedding. I called the store panicked hoping they had a seamstress recommendation in Washington DC. They had nobody to send me to or really anything they could do abt it. They told me to run out just hrs before the wedding and buy a new dress in DC. That was not an option. I had to scramble and find a tailor on the day of the wedding to fix as much as they could so I could wear it. The Lake Forest Shop seamstress tacked down the neck twisted and turned, screwed up the cups so bad it completely ruined the dress. The tailor was able to remove the track, yet, could only fix it as best as she could with streaming considering the timing and how awful the person screwed up the dress. I called Lake Forest Shop, again, when I got back. I had to fight to even get any refund. They gave me 10% off, basically. Nothing! There is ZERO reason why they didn't order me a Brand New One. I still believe that is exactly what they should do to right their wrong. There is no chance I'd let them alter anything ever, again. How did they possibly hand that dress to me in that condition wrapped to go on the plane? There is no way this should happen let alone from a store in business for 100 years.

The first time I went in, I was pleasantly surprised to find urban chic aesthetics filled with racks and shelves of unique European designs. The clothing can be mixed and matched and accessorized up or down to suit your personal taste. I spent 2 hours looking at jackets, jeans, long tops, short tops, handbags, shoes, jewelry, scarves, etc. And the best part is that every time I went back, there was a new flock of inventory to enjoy. Carla, the owner, takes pride in her store and has a fabulous eye for helping you find the items that best fit and enhance your individual style. All of the clothes in her shop are designed with flexibility and flair, and Carla was an absolute fashion wizard at teaching me all of the ways I could wear the same piece (not to mention, she's an absolute blast to hang out with!) While I usually prefer to be left alone by those sales people who bring you exactly what you don't want, when Carla suggests a piece would be fabulous on you, listen! Things I wouldn't have thought to try on are my go-to pieces every time! This is the kind of store that elevates suburban shopping, and I urge women of all ages to stop in and play as soon as it's safe for retail stores to open! In the interim, since we girls need our shopping fix, peruse the website. I heard that she is even putting up a video slide show in the window for her customers to get an idea of what they can buy online. Leave it to Carla to blaze a trail!

Despite how busy it was, Stacey personally welcomed every guest with that kind of hospitality that makes you wonder if she's lowkey your long-lost aunt. She made the whole space feel inviting and cozy, even as she was styling, ringing up, and somehow still smiling through it all. She's the MVP of multitasking and mood-setting. Let's talk clothes -- my wife was in boutique heaven. The selection hit that magical zone of trendy and timeless, like "that dress will slay now and five years from now." She found pieces for brunch, casual Fridays, and -- no joke -- we even considered coordinating outfits for future date nights. If matching sets are the new love language, this place understood the assignment. Now for me -- the supportive husband on standby. I came fully prepared to be ignored and under-caffeinated. Instead, I got cozy seating, cold bottled water, and good vibes. I felt seen. Honestly, the only thing missing was a small men's rack so I could join in on the fashion fun. I would've gladly snagged a matching neutral-toned shacket and made it a full Instagram moment. Final verdict: Blu Violet is a vibe. It's the kind of place where your wife walks out with a glow, you feel unexpectedly refreshed, and suddenly you're googling "how to style couple outfits without looking like a prom photo." 10/10 would return -- with hopes of menswear, or at the very least a whiskey, while waiting.
