The food is excellent, but it's very expensive for what it offered. This is not a place to go on your own, but could be worthwhile if you plan to share a pizza. They are large enough for 2, and in that way, the price is reasonable. I went with friends and everyone ordered their own pizza. I wish there was a cheaper single option. The sides (like the meatballs) are good, but also pricey for what you get ($18 I think for 3 meatballs and a giant piece of bread). I just don't really get the hype, sorry.

We went back and tried the Milk & Honey pizza and the Mushroom Pizza that they are known for. While still very good, they were less impressive than the Margherita pizza. After a couple of visits to both Wheated and Lupo, I cannot definitively say Lupo is the best in the city, but it's very close...

My husband and I had a date night here. The meatballs and pizza were phenomenal. The crust was delicious and soft. The sauce was so fresh. We will definitely be back.

My siblings & I came here for an early birthday dinner. We were honestly all impressed. The pizza was delicious. It had the perfect crisp & char. Very fresh ingredients. Tonight we got the sting like a bee pizza but we will without a doubt be back to try other ones. My sister & I loved the braised cabbage. The chili oil crunch was chef's kiss. So glad we got that. (If you like cabbage) it was subtle yet still so flavorful. Their ranch was also really good! And their garlic was different than we're used to but it had a fresh garlic flavor & the perfect buttery texture. So good. The atmosphere was cozy & service was great. :) 10/10 recommend

It takes a lot to get five stars out of me, but this spot has it all - nooks cozy for dining as a couple as well as families and groups, bartender who knows her stuff (food AND bevvies, even some music recommendations, too), but of course the food. I sampled and was delighted on all counts. This Caesar salad is special, with a mix of arugula and frisée dressed in a very lightly salted anchovy dressing topped with a soft-boiled egg - traditional and artful! The Milk & Honey pizza was my pick (thank you Nina) with a signature sourdough wood-fired crust that's chewy, toasty, crisp, and crunchy in all the right places with rich cream and house-made mozzarella contrasted with hot honey and fresh basil. Consider me comforted and coming back again soon!

This place is so good!! I ordered their version of a pepperoni pizza that comes with a hot honey drizzle. It's delicious!! I ordered online on a Thuraday for pick up. The online order portal said an hour for it to be ready but I was craving it for dinner so I went ahead and placed the order. I got a call about 10 minutes later saying the kitchen was ahead of schedule and asked if I wanted to keep the original pick up time or if I wanted them to push my order up. I had them push it up sooner! I got there and the parking was packed. I was lucky to snag an open spot. And my pizza was ready right when I got there!

Ordered the Sting Like a Bee Pizza (with olives added) tonight for pickup so we could enjoy it at the park. The pizza was superb! There were plenty of pepperonis and the perfect amount of honey. The crust has the perfect chew and such a great fresh flavor. One pizza shared filled both of us up and we have 2 pieces left to look forward to tomorrow. This is one of my favorite pizza places in Louisville. Pickup was fast and easy but I would advise if you're a nervous parker or have a larger vehicle maybe to go straight to the additional parking spaces.

Lupo is my favorite neopolitan style pizza place in the city. The pizza "wolf" exudes cool attitude from its unique Butchertown "wrong side of the flood wall" location to its cozy interior that makes it feel like the best shirt of old neighborhood haunt to grab a pie with friends, or as often in my case to sit at the small bar where everyone maybe knows your name and if not strangers sometimes quickly become friends. Should you get invited to a pizza party at Lupo you should always say yes and ask questions never. It will be a great time.

Great spot for a date or a quiet, classy moment after work. I've had the pizza, and it was delicious, but do you know what I love to order most at Pizza Lupo?? The pasta!! Their pasta is home-made and so delicious. I had the Pesto Canestri. This dish consists of: semolina pasta shells, garlic pesto, whipped ricotta, a fava beans. It reminded me of my mom's pasta fagioli but with pesto. As I was sipping it with a gin cocktail (gin, grapefruit, lemon, and white creme de cacao), I noticed the pasta had citrus notes as well (this drink and dish pairing was amazing! My cocktail made the pasta sing, I swear...). Only to notice lemon or orange zest whipped into the ricotta. So delicious. Beautiful atmosphere. Cool servers. Would LOVE a happy hour or specialty cocktail hour even just once a week so I can afford to be there ... always and forever :D

Pizza Lupo... rave reviews all over the place! But for me? The pizza didn't do a whole lot for me and I (and the rest of our party) left a bit disappointed based on what I've heard. Maybe it's a style thing, much like a controversial pizza blogger that claims Neapolitan starts at a 6.8? My favorite thing we ordered was the meatball appetizer.. the pita bread it came with paired so nicely with the meatballs and sauce. If my rating was food based only, likely a 3/5 for me BUT our server was fantastic. Very attentive, friendly and everything we ordered was out quickly. Her service and the timely work of the kitchen staff bumped it to a 4 for me, plus it being locally owned is a major plus! Will I be back? I'm not sure. I wouldn't turn it down if someone wanted to go, but not the top 5 of pizza joints in the city that I'd recommend first.

Pizza Lupo is a shining star in Louisville. I ate here once before and honestly wasn't blown away, but I'm glad I saved my review and gave this place another shot. Don't let the line forming outside before opening scare you away, there's plenty of indoor, outdoor, and community seating that you likely don't need a reservation. Parking at the overflow lot across the street is easy and accessible. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the pizzas on menu, but the Sfincione with added Detroit pepperoni has been my favorite so far. One pizza will feed 2 easily with a high likelihood of taking home leftovers. The only thing I haven't been crazy about is the Caesar salad, I found it to be pretty bland and overpriced for what it was. I look forward to going back and trying all the different pies they offer.

This was my second time at Lupo and somehow it was even better than the first! The service was great as always and the atmosphere was perfect. My sister and I split a bottle of red wine that was reasonably priced and very good. We started off with the meatballs which are now a must get if I ever come again. They are delicious and pair so well with the puffy flat bread! For our mains, we got the ricotta gnudi and the zucchini mafaldine. Both were creamy and delicious but my favorite was the mafaldine. If you come to Lupo you can't miss out on their pasta!

We waited 30 minutes past our 9:15 reservation to be seated because we were told the previous reservation would not leave. We had to ask the hostess twice before our table was ready. Once seated, we felt rushed to order. The salatim wasn't replenished until we had nearly finished our entrées. When we asked for more pita with our mains after receiving side orders of hummus, we were asked how many individual pieces we wanted. None of us received the rice that comes with our mains, and when we asked our server just agreed but it was never brought out. My fries were also forgotten and by the time I asked I was told the kitchen had already closed so I couldn't get them. They kindly removed the fries from my bill and gave me a complimentary dessert. Our empty glasses also remained on the table for the entirety of the dinner. At the end of the meal, we all requested separate checks, but three of them were incorrect and had to be fixed. As we were leaving, we could hear the employees cheering because we had left. We greatly appreciated the discount our group received. The food was excellent, but for such an exclusive restaurant we expected a better dining experience.

And the basic dishes were the most surprising. Also the rice - of the hundreds of rices we've had this is by far the best. Rice! Service was exceptional as well. Our servers Celeste and Ollie (Ali?) were knowledgeable, welcoming, and efficient. Hostess Isabelle was our hero. We were in Louisville only for 12hrs so did not have a reservation but nicely begged her and she was eventually able to fit us in late on a Sunday. They are slow smoked for 8 hrs, then flash fried just prior to serving and drizzled with a Spicy White Sauce. These might be the best ribs in the city! We shared a bowl of the Potato and leek soup. Another round of cocktails and we enjoyed entrees. Nick had the Short Rib with mashed potatoes and broccolini. I had the Filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Both of our entrees were great. Nick's was definitely our favorite. That Short Rib was amazing. Alan our server suggested a Strawberry Flambe for dessert. You have the option with this menu to share a series of small plates or traditionally course your meal with appetizers through entrees and dessert. I wanted a sampling of the menu so my party of two opted for small plates - the bleu cheese and fig jam toasts, roasted beet salad, and mussels were on the menu for us. You are also served with table bread with a Parmesan sauce that was phenomenal. I might order a different small plate besides the toast next go-round. A longtime staple that continues to deliver!…read more The staff is always friendly, and that was especially evident during this visit when there was an issue with my dish. My wife and I ordered the same steak, prepared the same way--medium rare--but hers was incredibly tender while mine was unusually tough, sinewy, and difficult to cut, let alone chew. (those were my em dashes btw) After cutting into both steaks, it was clear they had been cooked properly, so this wasn't a kitchen issue. Sometimes a supplier simply sends an inconsistent cut of meat. What mattered was how the restaurant responded. The staff immediately offered several options: remove it from the bill, replace it, prepare another one to take home, or do whatever else was necessary to make sure I still had a great experience. That is the mark of a restaurant group that consistently "gets it" and truly understands its customers and community. The mezcal Old Fashioned is definitely worth trying if you enjoy a smoky drink. It isn't nearly as aggressively smoke-flavored as some of the "smoke box" Old Fashioneds served elsewhere. The mezcal gives it just the right amount of character and fits the restaurant's atmosphere perfectly. The beans, rice, and sauces were all excellent. The guacamole with plantain chips is practically a must-have. At this point, I've tried nearly the entire menu and have never regretted stepping outside my comfort zone. The next time you visit, try something you might not normally order and you may discover a new favorite. Kudos to the entire staff, especially Lisandra. The owner said that the recipe for the eggs is one of the few things he is not wiling to share! Employees and patrons have drawn pictures of deviled eggs that are displayed on a wall space. I opted for the grilled chicken Greek salad. Greek salad is a favorite of mine and I have eaten it from numerous restaurants. By far, this was the best I have ever had. The artful presentation, fresh ingredients, and decadent flavors were a real treat. The chicken was so tender and again, the flavor bloomed in my mouth. The owner brought out a small serving of homemade peach ice cream that had been made the day before with fresh peaches. I simply have no words for how delicious it was. I will let my husband describe his experience in his yelp account, but I will say that after having salmon the night before at an 'upscale' restaurant in Louisville, he commented that the salmon at this bistro "blew it away!"
