Delicious! The Kentucky Brighton Beach pizza is what dreams are made of. The oven roasted garlic with the smokiness of the bacon makes the pizza just melt in your mouth and keeps you coming back for more. The meatballs, Caesar salad, and Ditmas Park pizza were delicious as well. The meatballs are in a creamy ricotta marinara and covered in parm. I could eat a dozen of them. Most definitely could share the salad and the dressing is top notch. Also check out their special pizza nights. We've been wanting to try this place since I saw Dave Portnoy's review from the location in Brooklyn, NY. He gave it an 8.1 and 8.4. If you know, you know. One bite, everybody knows the rules! Finally! NY pizza done right here in Louisville, KY! Got the Bensonhurst (margherita) and added pepperoni. Crust is charred, crispy, fluffy, undercarriage is an art design, sauce is bright and vibrant with quality tomatoes, mozz is perfectly distributed with the Pecorino, basil gives it the fresh pop, and the pepperoni finishes it off with that saltiness I'm looking for. Overall 3/5. Listen, I love a good sturdy crust but when every bite tastes like burnt crust, it's not good. It was difficult to taste the flavor of any of the toppings because of this. The vodka pizza was slightly less burnt, so we were able to taste the flavor of the sauce and it was good. Would we return? Probably not. read more

This was my first time there & cannot wait to go back! Great use of space, polite staff & the food, was wonderful! There are meatballs hiding under that gorgeous pile of cheese and, they were cooked to perfection. My only wish was for bread to eat the leftover sauce & cheese. Chicago style thin crust pizza. As someone from (Chicago)... can confirm, this is pretty comparable just wish the crust was a bit thicker but otherwise delicious!! I've spent 55 years living in NY and loving the pizza. I came across this gem of a pizzeria in of all places Louisville, KY. The pizza was fantastic and could hold its own in any Boro of NY. While the pizza was the star of the show the salads are amazing. I ordered one, and literally every table around me commented on how good it looked and ordered a few for their own. Went back again for another visit and Wheatedmis still as good as it gets for NY or New Haven style in Louisville. 8.5 on my version of the Portnoy scale. Meatballs with marinara and freshly grated Parmesan on top are fantastic. Fresh parm is delicate and melts in your mouth. Great service, nice spot for a few beers or cocktails along with tremendous pizza. Must try for Louisville pizza. One last addition. Wheated is an awesome spot to dine in at. Cute front porch if the weather is nice. Cozy inside options. Great staff, all friendly and lovely people. Takeout is a lil more difficult. Their menu isn't posted up anywhere accessible. Their instagram has an order link for a pop up 5 months ago. They seem to have no website. Managed to use the year old menu photos here on Yelp and their number on google to call and order to go. It seems the menu hasn't changed in a year and we were able to order everything we wanted on our recent order We got a supreme, their margarita with pepperoni added, a Caesar salad and meatballs. Everything was great. The pizza has a super crispy crunchy crust. But that also means it doesn't hold and reheat super well. So I wouldn't suggest ordering take out for more than you want that meal. The salad was fresh and wonderfully put together. Mountains of fresh grated cheese on top and dressed perfectly. The meatballs in the red sauce and ricotta base were insane. So so good. Overall we think wheated is one of the best pizza options in town, in a crowded market no less. I wish takeout options were easier, and I wish the crust had a lil more chew so it would have a better bite and reheat easier. But now I'm motivated to just eat it all right away! read more

Perfection. I don't have another word for it. This pizza was crispy yet had great flop, was hot but not sizzling and above all was the perfect cheese ratio. Loved how fresh the basil was (and that it was added after coming out of the oven). The pepperoni was not too greasy. Everything about this pizza made my mouth water. The caesar salad was good - I'm personally just not much of a cheese head! That being said I think 8/10 people are, and therefore would love it! Service was fast! I mean really fast! We were checked on consistently and with care. Also thought the ambience of the space was just what it should be. Lovely first date spot! Inside is very intimate. Closed space on the inside and kitchen in sight. Service was very nice, our waitress did a great job. A top-quality entry into the rather robust Louisville pizza scene...with some quality cocktails that easily hold their own as a lure alongside some tasty pizza. Good variety of pizzas, quality toppings, nice charred and chewy crust. Some tasty sides too (loved the meatballs). Cocktails are amazing...and there are some especially unique entries, such as the espresso martini topped with Parmesan. Yes, that's real. I'll admit...I'm glad I tried it, but am not sure the salty-sweet-chocolatey combo is one I'll add to my regular list...others disagreed and seemed more in the "I'll have another" mentality. Worth a try at the least! Service is friendly and helpful, but it gets really crowded, and they can get stretched a little thin. Not a critique at all, but I know some are needier than others, so I note that this is not a place you're likely to be checked on every two minutes...but you will also be able to order a round or two, it's not slow. Good space. Relaxed. I really like the small bar area, but there are tables too of course. It will get crowded, and you will likely have a wait (and unless there's room in the bar, there's not much standing room to wait). Rule 1. Save room for the Tiramisu. Caveat 1. That won't be easy. Have been here a couple of times as well as getting takeout and pizzas are some of the best in Louisville. Crust is perfectly blistered. Toppings are fresh and generous. And you can have some salad with your mound of grated Parmesan (if you go, you'll see). What drew us in to try Wheated is probably what gets most people in the door, and is by itself a good enough reason. It's an authentic Brooklyn pie that does not disappoint. On our first visit here, we were seated next to a table of 6 grey-haired women, and every one of them ordered their own pie, so they would not have to share and they would all have something to take home. They were licking their own fingers and taking photos -- it was a delight. But I want to hype the salads and our meatball appetizer. We ordered a simple mixed green salad with green apple and walnuts, and it was beautifully done, and large enough to split. The meatball was wonderful too. We saw others getting different salads, and all of them looked equally good. The salad, of course, is a nice counterbalance for the pizza, while the meatball is egregious (especially at a table of two people), but some days are occasions, right? I will say, however, that I don't quite buy into the cocktail push here. I know that Louisville is a cocktail town, and generally I'm on board. But I don't think I'm alone in the thought that pizza calls for beer or maybe a Coke. Michael did order a cocktail, and it was good. But I noticed that while we were eating, that cocktail was sitting on the sidelines waiting for its turn. Host and hostess are a joke. Was told 15 minute wait and waited 45 minutes while people walked in for the same group size and were seated within 5 minutes. Pizza's were served 10 minutes apart, Pizza was floppy and undercooked and really mediocre at best - easily outshined by Lupo and Impellizeris. Caesar salad and cocktails were on point - pretty much the only redeeming thing. Oh and I had the kitchen counter in my neck the entire time because they have too many tables jammed in. Decided to try Wheated a second time, very glad I did. We were initially going to go to the pizza place next door, but it was jam packed with loud children. Wheated was a much more peaceful dining experience. They have expanded their bourbon offerings since my first visit months ago. Decent pricing for a one ounce pour, if you want to give a new bourbon a try. We decided to sit at the bar again, so cannot comment on the dining area. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Salads were really, really good. I loved that there was no dressing in the bowl when I finished. I personally dislike it when my salads are drowning in dressing. The mixed greens salad had the perfect amount of dressing for me. Very delicious. I would suggest, though, that you may want to share a salad if you are also getting a pizza. I was too full after my salad to eat a whole slice. (Luckily, the leftover pizza heated up well the next day.) Pizza was really delicious. The price point is a bit higher than neighboring businesses, but it's good quality food in a really nice atmosphere. I believe you get what you pay for at Wheated. We will be back! read more

My Husband has been dying to try this place so I suggested it on Friday when we decided we didn't want to do anything crazy for Valentine's Day this year. When we arrived we were only quoted a 30-40 minute wait which was surprising for how busy it was so we walked over to the bar to get a drink. After standing there for a few minutes we got lucky and 2 seats opened up so we grabbed them. Considering how busy it was we weren't greeted immediately but once we were we received exceptional service. I started with the espresso martini, which was hands down the best cocktail I've EVER had!! Before you say, "Okay, yeah right", you have to understand it's not your normal espresso martini, yes there is your traditional vodka and cold brew liquor but what sets this one apart is the cacao Carajillo whip and black truffle saline. It's like sipping sophistication, through a cloud of marshmallow fluff. I have dreamed about it ever since. My husband just grabbed a beer on tap. The menu is small, but has a lot of unique options. There were several pizzas that intrigued us but we opted to stay safe for our first visit and got the Ny Slice Style Pie and added pepperoni and fennel sausage which was packed full of flavor. The pepperonis were small and curled up which I love bc it's makes the edges crispy and the sausage was a little spicy. I will say their style of pizza is a little more well done than I prefer however my husband absolutely loved it. One of the bartenders noticed I wasn't eating the crust and asked if everything was OK and I explained what I mentioned above. She asked if I would like a new pizza and I said absolutely not. I explained I had seen multiple reviews as well as videos of the pizza and knew what to expect. She did mention that you can ask do you have the pizza less well done so I will do that next time and my husband can just get his own pizza lol I definitely can't wait to go back and give this place another try as well as try something different on the menu. read more

Finally a great pizza place has arrived. This is thinner crust with a perfect blend of crispy and chewy. I'm so glad they just opened after years of looking for this style to no avail locally. Tried the meatball app, which was awesome - two large ones with ample sauce and hidden under a mound of grated cheese and fresh ricotta. So good I could make a meal out of those alone. Also tried the NY Slice pie with added pepperoni and sausage. These are my favorite pepperoni - little guys blasted in the oven so they curl, crips on the edges. A classic pie done right. Also tried the Prospect Park, which was a white pie that had ample garlicky and artichoke, olive flavors. Also great. Our server was handy with recommendations especially cocktails and drinks. Rare around here to find a pizza place with a full bar that is respectable. This is a very good selection and the server helped brainstorm some options given the mood, hot temps, and what we ordered. The patio is a pleasant surprise on Bardstown. Great to be outside but essentially 1-story off the road and sunken into the lot. Is it real NY style? As someone who lived in NY for a year, no, but it is floppy and delicious and thats alright by me. Ordered two pizzas, one for here and one to go. The for here was the NY Slice Style Pizza: tomato sauce, low moisture mozzarella, Pecorino-Romano, oregano. This was my favorite of the two, it had a great balance of flavors and the crust is super delicious. The one we took home for the next nights dinner was the Sunset Park: hot sopressetta, tomato sauce, fresh and aged mozzarella, Parmigiano-Reggiano. This was also very good but the sopressetta was a bit too salty for my liking so I dont know if I would get that one again. Service was top notch and attentive, love the interior and the covered patio - I will come back when it isnt 5 billion degrees out to take advantage of that! read more

We tried Wheated for the the first time this weekend. We traveled an hour to get there. My wife had been to New York recently and was craving some NY style pizza. We were excited to find out that the original Wheated location was in NY and that this was the only other location. We arrived right as they opened at 5:00PM, the first ones to enter, but it still took 7-10 minutes to seat us for some reason. No warm greeting and they seemed a bit confused about something. So right off, things weren't going well. The decor is nice but we found the music to be a bit loud and the style of music really wasn't our taste. It didn't seem to fit with the vibe of the restaurant. We had difficultly having a conversation at our table. We were provided a container of water and some glasses. I felt the glasses were too small. I found myself having to refill mine frequently. The waitress came around and took our drink orders. I was surprised to find out that soft drinks were served in cans along with a (tiny) glass of ice. It cheapened the experience for me. I expect a full service restaurant to have soft drinks on tap. There was also no iced tea on the menu either. (Nearly sinful in Kentucky! - LOL.) Perhaps this is just the "NY way" of doing things, but it lowered my impression of the place. We ordered the "Fall Off The Bone Chipotle BBQ wings" (misspelled as Chipole on the reused, slightly crumpled paper menu). These were really good and they literally were falling of the bone. All four of us enjoyed them. They were the highlight of the visit. Here's where things started to go downhill. The wait for the pizza was very long. A table seated 10-15 minutes after us, same server, received their pizza, ate, paid, and left before ours arrived, and we saw other later-seated tables served ahead of us. From arrival to pizza was nearly an hour. We'd finished the wings well before--six wings among four people goes quickly--so the gap was hard to account for. When the waitress noticed my frustration walking past our table, not even checking on us, she said she'd check on the order, and it arrived 10-15 minutes later. I believe the server forgot to put in the order. The pizza was good. I really liked the sauce and the sausage and pepperoni were both really flavorful. My wife liked it as well, although she felt it wasn't quit NY style, as it lacked "the flop" as she called it. However, I enjoyed the cook on the crust. My daughter and her husband got the vegan cheese and said theirs was good as well. Overall a very solid pizza, though I've had comparable pizza elsewhere for less. On price: New York was reported (per the New York Post) to be the most expensive U.S. city for pizza in 2024, with large 20-21" single-topping pies running $33-36, or roughly $0.105-0.115 per square inch. By the menu posted here in 2024, Wheated's 16" cheese pizza was $23, which works out to about $0.115 per square inch--on par with the top end of NY's topped pizzas, for a plain cheese pie. Given that Louisville's cost of living is reported to be around 56% lower than New York's, those prices put Wheated firmly in the premium tier Taking (some) reservations points the same way. This goes back to my comment about the canned soft drinks. You can't position and price yourself as premium and serve drinks from a can. It doesn't line up. I'm sure it is a cost cutting measure to avoid having to offer free refills, which really shouldn't be an issue for a "premium" restaurant. The service didn't feel premium at all either. We definitely felt like we were being ignored give the issue we had with getting our pizzas. S I mentioned, even entering and being seated was not so great. Some of the wait staff weren't dressed for the vibe of the restaurant at all either, even somewhat sloppily. If the service had been better, the music not so loud, and the drinks weren't in cans I would have given an extra star. The reused, slightly wrinkled paper menu with a typo is a small thing, but those details add up and left me wondering what else might be getting overlooked. As of now, it feels like a restaurant that can't decide what it wants to be. Is it premium? Is it casual? I'd love for it to pick a lane. It either needs to step things up a little (like nice branded polo shirts and black pants for the server staff, better, more attentive service, better music at the right volume, no canned cola, etc.) or bring prices closer to the actual experience and the local economy. With an appropriately modest tip for the level of service we received it was over $100 for two pizzas, some wings and some canned drinks. Granted, there are other places in town priced similarly, but Wheated feels like it can't decide what it wants to be. We may go back, but it will be a while. There are other NY Style pizza places in Louisville we will try first, and other places with pizza just as good for less. read more
